The pig waited, itching with anticipation. Finally! The door opened. She was glad to know that her name was remembered. With a toothy smile, Bobby squeaked in happines, "Kim!" There was a hint of confusion in her voice, mostly from the inner pig that didn't know what this young woman was turning into. But, mostly, it was just the genuine care from Bobby that was apparent.

As she passed, Bobby laid a hooved hand on Kim's shoulder. She figured that wouldn't be as disturbing as a full-blown hug from her huge body. "How have you been?" A slight blush came to her cheeks, but it was hard to tell under the fur, "I guess we both changed a little from our last encounter."

"Pretty good... all things considering." The young girl answered, visibely not too bothered by the hoove on her shoulder. "Just working on finishing touches on my halloween constume... you ?"

She paused for a moment, and then let out a nervous laugh. She had forgotten that they hadn't seen for long enough that the transformation - and the knowledge that came with it - was new. "Oh, yeah... We did, didn't we ?" She did seem a bit less cheerful at the thought, but nothing too bad or insulting to the pig woman.

The woman gave a half-smile. "I had them.... make my costume." Taking a hoof off the yound woman's shoulder, she held up her hooved hands, "I don't even want to attempt making one. Just getting dressed each morning is an ordeal." Not like the poor thing needed a visual....

Bobby looked around, the pig's curiousity subdued. Her gaze returned to Kim's face, "If it isn't too much of a hassle... I was wondering... could we have a rematch?" Her eyes twinkled with the thought. "Last time, I was at a disadvantage.... so, I guess I still am," she motioned to her hooves, "but I think a hand-ish game may be better to test than me.... physical bearing." So, barely fitting in the little DDR 'cage' was a bit of an 'unfair fight'.

She looked a little sheepish. Bobby found Kim, with the previous intention of looking for her... and it was just pure chance that she caught up with the young woman.

"Im just glad I managed to pick up some sewing tips from mom... I would look pretty stupid otherwise." She laughed. "Mine was mostly done when I got it... just adding a few things here and here.

...A rematch ? Kim couldn't help but grin a bit. "Sure thing ! What kind of game do you feel like playing ? I've got..." She looked around at the shelves filled with cartridges and albums full of cds. "...a few."

Understatement of the century.

The pig nodded, "Knowing some sewing things are good." Of course, she couldn't sew anymore with her hooves... but oh well.

"Hmmm... let me think...." Bobby didn't agree with many video games. Usually they were simply too complicated for her. "Do you happen to have.... Mario Carts? I used to play that sometimes with my son." The woman smiled, trying not to reflect on her son too much.

Kim grinned. "Oh, yes, yes ! I think I only have the lastest one... Somewhere in there..." Taking the first binder, she opened it, then closed it. "Not this one..." She turned around fully then, to look through all of this in search for the game.

Bobby couldn't help herself from laughing. It sounded like a strange coking snort due to her pig nose and mouth. As she grinned, her tusks gleamed in the light. "Wow, those are a lot of games....would it be disrespectful if I asked it you didn't get out a whole lot?" She winked in good nature. She was meerily curious... her son only had about 20 games, and it was hard to get him out of the house if he wasn't required to leave for school or whatnot.

"Oh please." Kim grinned as she flipped though the pages of the binder, eyes glittering with amusement. "Im 22 years old, and I do know when to stop." She teased. "But beside school, work, and something hanging out with the geek squad... not that much, I must admit." She laughed. "It was better for me to stay inside anyway. I caught about anything, from a simple cold to worse things, all too easily." Which felt odd, since she had not really been sick since she had come here, beside that one time just after she had arrived.

It was what someone could call a lazy day. Kim was laying down on the warm sand, eyes closed and suspeciously looking like if she was asleep. The black-haired girl had probably played her games all night after Bobby had left.

So she laid there, looking completely peaceful and at ease, her ipod plucked in the sand at her side and playing music in what seemed to be a foreign language - probably japanese. With a still-open DS in her lap.

It would probably be amusing if anyone she knew sumbeled on her.

Aislinn hobbled down the path to the beach. Finally, she'd managed to get everything organized the way she liked it. She'd thought about going to the intercom to ask Dr. Duvert about sending a message to her family so that she could have them send some decorative touches for her room...but the beach really had called to her, so she'd put on her swimsuit and headed there instead.

The swimsuit itself was a bikini in bright rainbow shades, a find she'd been quite proud of when she located it as she felt it depicted her own bright nature. The leg brace and cane sort of detracted from the overall look, but she tried not to think about that-- soon it'd all be fixed!

The beach itself was fairly empty, though Aislinn spotted another young woman lying not too far away. She looked perfectly content on her own with her technology, but the Vietnamese woman figured that if she were going to sit anywhere, it might as well be close by. She was still at a fair distance, though, to give the other privacy.

She got out her towel, trying not to disturb the woman-- who appeared to be asleep-- and set about putting it down in the sand. Something was a little disconcerting about her, but at this distance she couldn't really place it.

Kim had always been a light sleeper (at least, as long as foreign noises where involved - the girl had been known to sleep with 3 computers, 2 consoles, and a group of screaming men nearby), so it wasn't long after Aislinn started setteling that she slowly started to stir, and eventually setteling into a sitting possition with still-sleepy eyes, visibely still being somewhere in between sleep and awareness. It took a few more seconds before her presence was actually noticed.

"Oh, hello !" Kim said with a smile, in between two yawns, too asleep to notice the person in front of her was still fully human, and thus, at risk of being clueless about the island...

Aislinn blinked. Something was -really- unsettling about this woman. Dr. Duvert had mentioned something about some of the patients being a little deformed or some such, though, so she figured that that might be it. Besides, she wasn't about to be rude and stare or anything.

Though, what was that on her -hands-?

She tried not to look too closely lest she be seen as antagonistic.
"Hello," she smiled, "Are you a patient as well?"

It took a few more precious seconds before the gears in Kim's head began to surely turn as she finally woke up for real.

... Patient ?

OH s**t. CRAP. THIS WASN'T POSITVE. THE FLEET IS FUBARED, SIR ! SEND BACKUP !!!

...Well, this had to happen. Really. At least she hadn't run off screaming. Yet. Ill't be easier to go along... But Kim wasn't all that keen on lying.

"Ah... hm." She searched her words. "...I came here for that originally, yeah. But, well... This island isn't exactly what it seems to be..."

This was going to suck.

Aislinn blinked. From the way she was talking, she could only guess that the other was a patient for some new psychiatric drug or something.

"Er...right...." she smiled as warmly as she could. She'd never really been around a crazy person before, but she figured, eh, she hated to be treated like she was crippled, so why should she treat another that way?

"It's not?"

This wasn't getting any better.

"I don't think there's a nice way to put this." She sighed. "This island basically turns people into animals. I came here from an ad about an experimental cure for diabetes. Seems like everyone's got a different story to how they came here."

The small girl looked perfectly serious. "I know it sounds crazy, but it's the truth, and I don't want to lie to you more than you have been lied to by coming here."

The woman blinked again,
"Uh..." the island turned people into animals? Wow. This one needed a higher dose of whatever medication it was they were trying on her.

"...You might...want to see about your medication. I don't think it's working," she said. She really didn't want to seem rude, but it would be better to suggest the girl go to Dr. Duvert and let him know that adjustments ought to be made than to have her ashamed of whatever actions her insanity might spur in her.

It took anything in Kim not to go postal at this instant, but it wouldn't do much good. After all, it would only make her more crazy. After a moment to calm herself, she spoke again.

"First of all, I do not really like being called crazy, thank you. Secondly..." She took the silver pendant she wore from her neck, made her way a little closer to the other woman - as seizure-inducing as her bikini might be - and opened it, pointing at the right photograph. "Then how would you explain this ?"

The photograph in question showed two women - one older than the other and both asian in nature. The similitude in between them inplying it was a mother and daughter. Kim matched the younger woman perfectly in build, face shape, and all... Beside the wierd skin, and all the other bits she gained in her year on the island.

"This photo was taken one month before I came here." Kim looked at the picture a bit sadly - more than one would think she would.

Aislinn blinked. Now that she was closer, she could see just what had distubed her about the other woman. The eyes...they didn't have pupils at all, and her head had this large bump that didn't look like anything she'd seen before outside of the Jurassic Park movie...you know, like those big grass-eating long-necked things or something.

But then her -arms-. Those were the weirdest part. She had these huge flaps of really thin skin...like bat's wings, and the largest pinky Aislinn had ever seen. The woman couldn't mistake the animalistic appearance of the other-- she'd been in the veterinary business too long. Still, she didn't look like any animal -she- knew of.

"What the...?" she was leaning towards believing the other, but...it was too odd. Maybe it was just makeup or something? Halloween was coming up....

"Is this a prank? A Halloween thing? What are you supposed to be?"

"Oh, I wish it was a prank. Maybe I wouldn't smack my fingers in doors then. And my halloween costume is less freaky than this." She gave a nervous laugh, visibely not feeling quite at ease herself - she definitively was the last one who should be doing this - the one with the least believeable story.

"And, well, a pterodactyl. Don't ask me how, I don't exactly know. This was what I was told." She said, closing the pendant with a flick of her powerful wrist and tying it back at her neck. "If not the real thing, a mix of many animals to get the desired effect. But Moreau told me im the real thing. Go figure."

She ran a hand though her hairs. "...Im sorry to drop it all onto you at once. It was hard to take for me also, but I didn't want to be lied to, as I doubt you would want to as well."

Aislinn still wasn't sure what to make of this. The girl's story was...unbelievable. But, there was at least some evidence....still, it could be a costume. Her skin -was- awfully shiny. It could just be some prosthetics or something that gave it its tone and shiny-ness and stuff. She didn't know much about all that, though.

The woman's eyes narrowed,
"A pterodactyl?" she asked incredulously, "How exactly could...?" she knew enough about biology and genetics to realize how impossible it'd be to get her to turn into a pterodactyl, even if it were possible to turn a person into an animal at all.

"We don't even know for sure what the damn things look like..."

She lifted a hand towards the other girl, motioning to her hand,
"Do you mind? They look like very good...designs..of whatever fashion they are."

Kim just sighed, and with a roll of her eyes, held up her hand for the other woman.

"Just don't pull too hard." That hand was still sightly sore from a run-in with the cafeteria doorframe a few hours ago, the last thing she needed was this lady deciding she would wring it off no matter what. If that wouldn't prove it, it was definitively hopeless to get anything thought.

"As for how, the doctors weren't so kind to tell me exactly how, for I am just a normal person and way too stupid, apparently." She mumbered, redirecting her annoyance at a much better source.

"Oh, and if that's not enough for you, you can try pulling the headcrest too. Just don't rip my head off. Please."

Whatever the medication was, it was apparently making this woman incredibly grouchy now. She'd seemed nice enough before, but...well, Aislinn had to admit that being questioned so much might be enough to make her unhappy as well. She hated talking about her accident and the results of it, and if this girl was telling the truth...well, no wonder she was getting a bit cranky.

She gently prodded at the skin. It felt exactly like a bat's skin. Strange. She touched the arm, trying to see if she could spot where the skin had been attached...but there didn't seem to be any seams at all, not even that she could feel. She rubbed a bit, to see if whatever powder might be covering the seams would come off, but...nothing.

Her eyes widened,
"This...is really good work..." she said softly. She just couldn't bring herself to think....
"Does..does this happen to everyone?"

...Good work.

Again, it took a few breath for the small woman to calm herself enough so that she wouldn't be screaming.

"Well, not exactly this. I mean, not everyone get the same animal. But yeah. It happens to everyone that doesn't work at the labs. And well, I've been here for a year now. No one's going home."

The girl's touch on her hand was so akward... It wasn't really something she had taken note of or experienced before now. The touch was so warm... So much warmer than an human should be. But she knew that the "problem" wasn't Aislinn. It was her, and the now cold blood running though her. It took alot of willpower to resist getting closer to the heatsource.

Aislinn noticed the other's wince, and looked at the wrist more carefully. There was a slight discolouration-- probably a bruise, though it was hard to tell with the strange skin colour.

She felt a strange haze come over her. A sort of acceptance without really realizing the consequences,
"That'll be hard to explain to the parents when you get back home.." she commented absently.
"...I'm Aislinn, by the way. Aislinn Derry."

"...I probably don't have parents anymore. And I do not think I can ever go back home." She commented sadly, strange eyes casting downward for a moment.

Her mother... Without the only thing that had kept her alive... was most likely dead.

"Kim. Kim Nguyet. Sorry for the sucky introduction." She managed to let a small smile out to break the sadness.

The Vietnamese woman bit her lip. Well, way to go there...she hadn't known the girl's parents were dead or whatever.

"What do you mean, you can't go back home?" she hadn't inferred that she didn't have a home at all, just that she couldn't go to it. That was a bit odd. Maybe Aislinn could get out of here before whatever it was started turning her into an animal.

"I think I may see if I can't go home before I get infected."

"I don't think it's actually possible to leave. There's cameras everywhere in here. Guards and all kind of things like that. It's creepy. I've heard of someone trying to leave and failing, and almost dying in the process. It's messy. And beside... They gave you an injection when you came out of the helicopter, right ? It's allready started then."

...This really sucked.

"That...that was just to prep me for..for my surgery," she stuttered, the haze starting to melt and her eyes focusing a bit more again. She was starting to shiver, though it was warm enough here.

She needed a drink. That was it. That would make her feel better, if nothing else. Perhaps this was just a dream. Well, even if it was, she could go get a little tipsy in her own dream, if she had as much control as it seemed like she did. And there'd be nothing to worry about.

...Suddently the beach wasn't exactly inviting anymore. And the cocktail of emotion - sadness at the girl's realisation of the harsh truth, anger caused by the fact neither of them should be here to begin with... was giving her an headache and making her feel like complete crap. Maybe it was why some people thought lying was better.

"I should get going." She said with a sigh, standing up and putting the DS and the shut-down ipod in her pockets. "If you need anything... Im in duplex 22, okay ? No need to worry about bothering me or anything - you won't."

And with that, the woman left, emotionally drained.

Richard sat in the entertainment room library, books on aquatic invertabrates piling up around him. His head shook side to side as he scanned the pages of a book completely dedicated to squid species. He'd read it three times already and was no closer to finding his fated animal. Things simply weren't adding up. The tentacles clearly had some type of internal structure besides muscle. But as he had suspected that didn't appear to be the case for natural squid. He figured it might be a single species with an evolutionary oddity at first but hadn't found anything to indictate such a species existed. The other changes, his dimunitative arms, the enlarge canines, the stiff hairs in his mustache just didn't jive with squid. If the little arms were going to be tentacles, why the bone structure? Richard growled a bit in frustration. The tentacles danced behind him, like agitated snakes, ready to strike.

Quote:
The woman's entrance was quiet to the point that it could have easely been missed. Kim visibely didn't see Richard at first as she stepped it, looking a bit down the weather, so to say. There where no smile on her small face, but a rather gloomy look of someone who had gone though something they disliked and hadn't quite recovered yet. It was the case, after all. Sure, the poor lady hadn't meant it, but being called crazy, repetively, had wounded her more than she probably would have thought it would.

How can I blame her ? It did sound crazy. Maybe I -am- crazy. After all, do I even believe myself ?

She gave out a sigh, huddeling into the couch and flipping the cover of her DS open and, after finally noticing the older man's presence - holy crap, where those tentacles ? - she lowered the sound of the handheld to mute out of respect for his reading. She didn't really want to speak right now, and kind of hoped he had not noticed her.

Quote:
Sighing, Richard closed the book and placed it on the table. He told himself it really wasn't important. Whether or not he knew the final destination of this crazy journey wouldn't change whether he reach the end or not. It was a lie, Richard craved information, especially concering information his own well being. He drove his doctors batty with questions about his health back home, even though he had done nothing to correct the problems such as his weight.

He rubbed his temples and looked up and saw Kim huddled on the couch, her face looked almost alien but Richard could almost feel the sadness radiating from her. Eager for the distraction from his own troubles, a sort of knowing smile formed on his lips. "Ah, hello miss. I didn't hear you come in."

While Richard looked friendly his tentacles did not. They stilled as soon as he spotted Kim and lowered themselves into a striking postition, the clubs just visable over his shoulders.

Quote:
Kim looked up from the handheld when he spoke, and managed a smile, but it looked, and felt, very fake. "That's okay. Im afraid I am not... the best companion at the moment." She ran her still normal fingers through her long black hair, doing her best to untangle the small knots that had remained after the brushing. It was getting harder and harder to comb them correctly, and she would probably be forced to either have someone comb them for her, or have to get an haircut, before the end of this crazy ride, and it did nothing to lift her spirits. She gave a raised eyebrow at the tantacles - both the sigh of them and their apparently different intent than the man that they where attached to. The pterodactyl in her was on guard, ready for an attack...

Quote:
When she looked up Richard finally got a good look at the woman. He tried to place what she was becoming, the fingers reminded him of Tommy's hands, they were definitely becoming wings but the rest? The colors were vaguely reptilian but a flying reptile? Nah Moreau wouldn't... No he would... Couldn't? If could do it he would solely because he could. This woman was becoming sometime that did not currently exist on this earth. That had distrubing implications... Richard pushed it away again but the thoughts continued to hover at the edge of his mind.

He saw her gaze go past him at the black tentacles protuding from his back through holes he had cut in his shirt this morning. He flex his back and in the proccess the tentacles crumpled on themselves. It was a very crude kind of control and very uncomfortable for long periods, but it was all he had at the moment. "Ah don't worry about them. Their just a bit implolite at times. They can only reach about six feet anyway. Not to bright either, stupid things broke my mirror slamming into my reflection the otherday. Was the most difficult shave of my life. Damn things get hurt when they slam into something solid." Richard chuckled. He hoped the mental image might produce at least a smirk from the girl.

"What's your name?"

Quote:
It seemed to be enough to soothe the girl's instincts, for a moment, and get a sightly more genuine smile out. This man reminded her of when she was young, and her childhood friends had grandfathers that didn't really mind the little girl tagging around. Richard had the same kind of gentleness than them, she thought.

"Ahh, I see." She flicked the handheld closed with a flick of the longer finger and let it fall to the side. After all, it would be much more polite to give him all her attention. "Must be quite annoying... Oh, my name is Kim. And you would be ?"

Quote:
Richard grinned when Kim respond in a positive fashion and then mentally remind himself not to mention the memorial or Fiona. He really wasn't in the mood for that drama today. Yes it was important but Richard didn't want to make a habit of bad news all the time. Besides He thought he had most of the story about that now. Small talk was best for now. "Call me Richard, been here for about a month now. I was a reporter. Now..." Richard looked at the books around him with both frustration and disgust. "Now I have absolutely no idea what I am."

Well that wasn't what he really wanted to talk about. He searched the room for a subject of interest, falling on her DS. "So what's that little contraption?" When in doubt, ask about a person's toys and from there you can find a person's joys.

Quote:
"I used to be a modelist for games. You know, like making the computer models, the settings." She sighed. "And now im the crazy pterodactyl girl. Not exactly what I expected from my life... But can I blame her ? I have problems believing it myself sometimes." There was a moment of sillence. "Oh, sorry about that... Im rambeling."

As Richard asked about the DS, it seemed like Kim grinned from non-existant ear to another. "That's a Nintendo DS. Basically an handheld, portable game system." That brought the flashback of Taylor's grandfather thinking that his NES was a toaster... it tooks hours to get all the crumbs out.

Quote:
Modelist? While Richard was very computer literate for his age computers were tools not entertianment devices. He was unfamilar with games besides solitare. His initial image of modelist was that of a fashion model for video games. He smiled and nodded at her explaination, realizing at least he had not clue as to what she was talking about. His expression changed when she called herself crazy and nodded when she said pterodactyl, putting a word to his suspicions. "Crazy? who called you crazy?" The only crazy person he had met was Gallen. Wonder what happen to the little walking case of denial.

"Ah its a nintendo." He had heard of those. "Kinda looks like a cosmetics case to me."

Quote:
Oh, great. That was a can of worms that she hadn't wished to open. "...Well... People tend to take it quite badly when I say what im turning into. But it's what I was told, and I think the b*****d was too gleeful to be lying. And... I had an encounter with someone who knew nothing about the island yet." She glupped, visibely trying not to look to patheticly affected. "She thought I was stir-crazy. I know she didn't say that to hurt me, but... it still stung." Deep down, Kim had always been very emotional, but subbornly refused to let it show. "But I didn't want to lie to her. And short of just running away there was no other option than say things as I see them, was it ? I mean... I know, a damn dinosaur seems impossible. But for some reason, it is. And it's me." And she was getting a bit sick of dealing with it. Sure, there was a few who took it decently... but the bad seemed to outweight the good.

"Hehe... Yeah, I guess it does." And it did, she noted, as she glanced at the white plastic rectangle. "Too bad I don't really wear makeup."

Quote:
Richard smirked a little. Poor girl, must have run into somebody like Gallen, too scared to realize how impolite he was. "I don't really see how becoming a dinosaur is less feasible than becoming oh say... a squid." He shot one of his tentacles a look of disgust. Richard was fully in dispense grandfatherly wisdom mode now, hoping talking about it would help Kim. "New arrivals are hard. You have to remember their world is crumbling around them and they are prone to their own... Irrationallity or craziness." He winked. "Could have been worse. I met Tommy the first time I ventured out of my duplex. I almost walloped him with my cane. Trust me my dear, your a beauty queen compared to that."

Quote:
"I know. Im not... mad at her really, more like... hurt, even if it's a bit stupid to be." It WAS pretty stupid, she couldn't help but think. Aislinn hadn't really meant it. "She... wasn't really rude or anything, I mean, she kind of talked like how a nurse would talk to a loon, I guess." The idea of her in a straightjacket oddly made her laugh.

"Ahhh..." Her cheeks turned some kind of deeper shade of tan and brown, visibely a kind of blush. "Thanks, I guess ?" Visibely she wasn't too used to those comments.

Quote:
Richard grinned like a chersire cat as the dino girl blushed. He really hadn't meant it quite like that but it was highly amusing just the same. He pondered how to continue the conversation. He really didn't have alot in common with the girl besides, well being here. Still she seemed like a very decent girl. "I've written letters for the newcomers actually. Try to at least sort them out before they just to wild conclusions and all that. Posted them on the bulletin board. You can just direct them there if you don't feel like explaining."

Quote:
Letters ? Bulletin board ? She hadn't noticed any of this. "Really ? That's a very nice idea, actually." It was wierd that no one had thought of it. "I don't exactly remember a bulletin board... Is that new ?"

Richard really was a gentle man - it was heart-wrenching to think that there might be grandchildren somewhere missing him... Same than with thinking on how Bobby's children missed their mother terribely. This island destroyed so many lives...

Quote:
There we no children in Richard's life to miss. For the ten years since his wife's death he had always been on the move. From training to reporting at different places all over the world. He has many "Buddies," but no close family or friends. He had never put down roots, nor had he interacted with many young people that spoke his native tongue. The kind grandfather mode was orginally a way to get information out of children but Richard found himself drawn into the role with ease since his arrival to the island. He found he enjoyed it. Conversation without alternative motives was refreshing.

"Ah yes its new. Gaius and I put it up last week. Give a place for everyone to post messages to the villagers, maybe organize events. I do hope my letters get seen there. The staff were taking down my letters from the duplexes."

Quote:
"Yeah, I can imagine they would." She frowned a bit, visibely not having a very high opinion of the staff members in general. "But what if they take it down from the board as well ?" After all, with all the cameras, it couldn't go unspotted for too long.

Quote:
Richard shrugged, "They haven't yet and I can always put more up. Alot easier than putting them up on thirty duplex doors. Far less stairs." He patted the cane that was leaning againist his seat.

Quote:
"Oh, yeah. Definitively. Expecially with how many duplexes there are now. There where so little when I came here.... It's sad to think about it." She was trying to not completely fall into her depression bout again. "I just wish people stopped coming here. I wouldn't even wish it to my worst enemy."

Quote:
Oh dear, that little niggling detail which was already threatening to deprive him of sleep. Optismism maybe? "Now, Don't you worry about things you can't change. We just have to keep living, even if it takes some "adjustment." Richard's smile was a little forced. "Keep together and we'll see the end of this little experiment... One way or another.

Quote:
See the end ? What did it exactly mean - for them to eventually be killed ? For them to live here for the rest of their days ? The end could mean many things, but she decided not to mention that. "Yeah... This is the least we can do... We have to survive, if only for ourselves..." She couldn't help but think of Cody. If anyone he knew died, what would the poor kid do ? The pterodactyl instinct was stern on that point - the youth needed to be protected at all cost, and it requied of the pack to stay united and live. Even if Kim didn't exactly see it this way.

Quote:
Richard didn't know what the end would be either. He hoped the staff would implode upon itself eventually. All that could be done for now was to wait and watch. Eventually there would be a mistake that would provide an opening. The villagers had to be in a position to exploit that mistake. There had to be a community here, individual's were victims, but the village as a whole might have enough strength to accomphilsh something. For now... Richard was just doing what he knew best. Searching for answers and struggling to make a difference, in what ever way he could. "Don't just surive for yourself. There are other people that rely on you I'm sure. Personally, my wife would never forgive me if I just gave up. Not a woman you want to have angry at you. Trust me on that one." Richard was astonished at himself, he was talking about Erica without the greif bubbling up. It would hit him later he was sure but right now he was remembering the woman tossing a rude houseguest out on his ear. She had been a beautiful thing to behold.

Quote:
Ah, so he had been married ? "Oh, I will believe you on that. My mother used to be a bit the same way... At least until dad died. She lost all will to live then." Painful memories - but for some reason, it was relieving to talk about it with someone who wouldn't call her a poor little girl with a pat on the head. "It made my glad that I didn't leave a lover behind..." Of course, she had left her mother behind, which wasn't much better. What had they told her ? Did she even survive the loss ? She would probably never know, and it might just be better that way.

Quote:
Richard had for the moment, forgotten about the strange new limbs he had aquired recently. His back muscles relaxed, his tentacles peaked over his shoulders again, waving side to side, to an invisable tempo. His small "arms" mimic the movement of his large ones. He looks down at the gold wedding band on his left hand, fingering it with his right. "Oh I didn't leave her behind. She left for heaven ten years ago." The smile was sad now. He could hear the screech of the tires in his head now and darkness that had enveloped them both. He shook his head to ward off the memories. "Better this way, I think."

Quote:
"Ahh... Im sorry to have brought that back." She sighed. "...It was probably better for dad, too. The doctors said that even if they had saved him, he would never be able to walk again... I think he would have prefered death if he had been given the option. But... enough talk about depressive things, maybe ?" She said with a small, saddened smile. "It's better to cherish the good memories."

Quote:
Richard nods. "Indeed." He is quiet for a moment. He is pondering something.

Quote:
Kim also slid into sillence, but it was more because she didn't know what to say than anything else, as she started to "comb" her hairs once again, while trying to think of a conversation that would be a bit happier.

Quote:
Richard decides againist asking about Fionia, he'd ask her later maybe after the halloween party. Oh the Halloween party! Richard Smiled. "You going to be at this little party the staff is throwing?

Quote:
Ahhh, NOW this was better ! "Oh yeah. I definitively plan to. My costume is pretty much ready, just need some small, finishing touches. What are you going to go at ?" Suddently, the small girl was much more lively and cheerful, obiviously loving the holiday.

Quote:
Richard's smile was back. "To be honest, I haven't given it much thought. I'm a bit old for trick or treating."

Quote:
"Me too, but it's not really what I like. I like costuming best." She shugged. "It's not like I can eat candy anyway, so I only trick or treated with my guy friends when we where younger and gave them all my candy afterward." That would have been the delight of every child, to have something like that for a friend, no ?

Quote:
Richard looked confused for a moment, "You can't eat candy?"

Quote:
Kim was used to those kind of looks, so it didn't really affect her. "It's not really a good idea. Type 1 diabetes, I gotta be really careful or else ill screw myself up. Been this way since I was 6. It sucked at first, but I don't even really like candy anymore."

Quote:
"Ah, hehe my doctors really hoped I'd stop liking pot roast," He patted his slimmer but still rounded belly. "Never happened though." He winked.

Quote:
Kim couldn't help but laugh. "I never really liked roast myself. But then all that I can really eat lately is fish with a *little* rice and vegetables if I hope to keep it down. Diet soda's getting a stretch." She seemed a bit upset by the fact that she might have no caffeine source soon.

Quote:
So far Richard had noticed no change in the things he found platable. "I'd still eat Pot Roast if they turned me into a cow." Richard started to push himself out of the chair. The change of topics was making him hungry. "In fact I do believe its about time to feed the ol' bottomless pit."

Quote:
She simpely couldn't resist but laughing, again, as the mental image was too humorous to resist. "Oh, I don't doubt it ! And now sounds like a good time to stop lazing around and get my costume finished, at any rate. If I keep pushing it back, I will never get it done, no ?" She got up and stretched.

Quote:
"Well now I'll have to show up to see it finished. Nice talking to you Kim. I'm in Duplex 70 if you want to find me. " Richard wondered about a costume, well there were those old fraterity skills to fall back upon....

Quote:
"Im in 22, myself. And sorry, im keeping it a secret until the big time. Ill't be easy to spot, just look for the short girl with black hair that looks like she just landed from China." She gave the older man a playful wink, then went on her way.

Quote:
Richard watched her go. A smile on his face. Heh. Young people.

Liamh shoved his hands into his pockets as he walked up to the tent, the music getting louder as he approached. Peering around, he noticed the large crowd gathered... the large, strange crowd. He blinked a few times, and walked into the midst, heading for the drinks table, nodding and smiling at those he passed.

Looks like they've gone all out for us. How kind.

He smirked as he passed what looked like an irate snake in a dress, wondering what that was about, and went to help himself to the refreshments.

Kim finally decided that she was hungry - and headed torward the food table, spotting something very, VERY important - cocktail weenies ! She always had a weakness for those.

She popped one into her mouth and, after putting some more in a little plastic dish, she headed right for the refreshments, and rose an eyebrow at the man there. Completely bald, but it wasn't what caught her attention.

"Hey, nice costume ! Dr, Who ?"

Long live the geeks.

Liamh took his drink - it was some kind of cider, he was pretty sure - and wandered over to look at the food. The first table he passed turned his stomach. Was any of that even cooked? He shuddered and found a table with more palatable foodstuffs, passing some kind of creepy clown with large, pointy teeth.

He nodded, mulling over the fingerfoods. "Hey, sweet. Little sandwich thingies." He took a few and glanced over at the clown. "Hey, I'm Liamh, by the way," He shoved a sandwich in his mouth and held out a hand.

He heard someone's voice behind him, and turned, seeing a strange-looking girl in a nifty chinese getup. "Hey! Thanks, I really didn't think anyone would get it!" He grinned at her.

Alec helped himself at the pickings on the table, being as choosy as a sewer rat as he stuffed his mouth full of the provided snacks. He probably would've preferred a nice raw steak but he wouldn't dare approach the other tables, though the alcohol was looking a little interesting at the moment.

Unfortunately, the approach of a few Islanders to his location quickly reminded the shark boy that it wouldn't do to clean the entire table of its contents. "Uh?" He mumbled and glanced over at Liamh, offering a friendly but albeit creepy smile. "Ay, Alec. Nice t' mee-" The teen stuttered as the bald guy was stormed by supposed friends, feeling somewhat out of place all of a sudden. He distracted himself with a handful of chips as he tried to look nonchallant.

She grinned right back, trying to blow the scroll that came down from her hat out of her face, out of reflex. She would probably stop doing so in about an hour, but in the meantime the reflex was annoying.

"Oh, I watched that show so much that it would have been a sin not to." She blinked as she tilted her head, after hearing someone call out the name the man has just used to introduce himself to clown-guy.

Gallen headed over to the snack table where the odd looking bald man who he was half hope was Liamh was. As he did he looked around at the other guest. So many people. Maybe he would finally meet others here....maybe finally he would even get a chance to see his sister.

Liamh waved over his shoulder at Gallen. "Heya!" He smiled at Alec, remembering to offer his hand again. "Oh, sorry! Alec, nice to meet ya. Been here long? At the party, i mean..."

He stepped aside slightly for others to come in closer to the table and conversation, flashing a smile at the girl who'd called out to him.

"Ah, you're a fan, eh? I loved that show, always scared the daylights out of me when i was little. I like what they're doing with the new version... Which doctor is your favorite?" he tilted his head toward Kim. "I'm Liamh, by the way."

Alec turned back to Liamh and noticed the offered hand this time, responding with a firm shake and another smile. "Neh neh, joos' go' 'ere. Ye?" He turned to include the others who'd arrived so that they could form somesort of small conversation group, though he knew absolutely no one present, it seemed. That was ok, he had food for now.

"Kim." She answered, sending a wave to Alec and munching on a cocktail weenie before continuing. "I didn't get to catch a whole lot of the new one. I was too busy, and then, well, I came here." She refused to let the thought hinder her fun, and so far it seemed to be working pretty well. "As for a favortie... hmmm. I really liked the 9th for some reason. But I pretty much liked any of those that popped in what I watched. 9th stands out more in my mind tho."

Gallen came up and smiled too Liamh, the creepy clown and the young lady. He listened as they conversed about Doctor Who. He remembered the show but did not get too see much of eth new stuff. "I heard Eddie izzard was suppose to be the next Doctor." He looked over to the young lady, “nice ghost costume and your the clown form IT right?” as he smiled and nodded to Alec.

Liamh nodded at Alec. "Nice. I just got here myself, haven't had a chance to try out the festival games yet or anything. Just as soon as i get a bite to eat, maybe... then again, i haven't been too hungry today. Nothing sounds good..." he shook his head, sticking his tongue out.

Liamh extended a hand to Kim, with a grin. "Kim, eh? Kim, this is Alec, Alec, Kim. Right? Right. And i think i keep confusing the seventh and the eighth. I always liked the fourth, for some reason... can't beat the scarf. Hard to keep 'em all straight in reruns, but darn they were fun."

He glanced over at the two of them. "Okay, the scary clown i get, but... What're you going as, Kim? I'm trying to figure out what the scroll thingie's for..." He smiled and rubbed his bald head.

"A Chinese zombie/ghost" Gallen said remembering the horror films and ghost stories form his days in Hong Kong as a small child. "and no you can not beat the 4th's Scarf, hehe." Gallen soon turned to Alec and put out his hand. Gallen Marcuss, nice too meet you."

Kim didn't expect anyone to get the full extend of her costume, so she wasn't too surprised. "Pleased to meet you both." She said with a small bow. "Well, my costume is a video game character, but I can make it a bit simpler to explain I think. She's pretty much a chinese ghost/zombie, and the scroll is used for magic in the myth. For the character, well, the scroll actually has the soul of her sister inside. It's been a while since I played so my details are a bit stretchy.

She turned to Gallen and grinned. "Thanks !" She did look a but surprised that he had actually known.

Liamh took a sip of his drink. "Oh, right, right, sorry, the ninth. Yeah, he's definitely my favorite, i have to say. I heard they were replacing him with a tenth, but i hadn't gotten that far. I think i still have the CD someone burned for me before i.... well, before i left." He shook his head. "Have you seen them? If not, maybe we could both watch it."

"Ahh, chinese ghost!" Liamh's eyebrows - or what would have been eyebrows, if he still had them - arched. "That's clever - i wouldn't have guessed, but i'm just ignorant that way," he laughed.

Alec nodded to Kim and accepted Gallen's handshake, unable to guess what any of them were dressed as. To save himself the embarassment, he'd wait for someone else to figure it out for him. "IT? Heh, mehbeh. A' 'aven't seen tha' n' sooo long. Go' th'clown bi' righ' though!" He smirked a bit, letting his eyes travel past Kim towards the dance floor in time to see Emerwyn's classy slip-up. He couldn't help but sputter a laugh. Parties were never dull when drunks were about.

"Theh's games?" He chirped, having not even noticed the other happenings in the tent.

"Really ? Aw." She did look a bit dissapointed as she heard of the possible remplacement. "I havn't seen a whole lot of them as I said, ill'd love to ! And yeah, I didn't expect anyone to know that the costume was, but I needed something that fit those... things." One of the claws from each hand started wriggeling beside the two other, foam ones - proving they where actually very real appendages. "It was the first thing that came to mind."

Gallen turned back to Kim and smiled, "No problem, I grew up in china and I remember seeing and hearing about such creatures in films and stories." Now that he was closer he looked at Liamh's head, "Funny I do not remember any of the doctors being bald, are you cosplaying your own version?" He laughed as he went back to talking to Alec who seemed quit confused and amused at something at the same time. "You ok man?"

Liamh nodded at Alec. "Yeah, they've got things like bobbing for apples and pin the whatever on the pumpkin, things like that. Carnival fun." he smiled, munching on another finger sandwich. "We should totally go be dorks all over it."

Glancing at Kim's claws, he stopped mid-bite, letting the sandwich dangle from his mouth. "Hrrrnnn," He remembered to chew and swallow, removing the rest. "Well, it's certainly creative... Are you, uh, you're chinese, then?" He smiled. "Great way to tie it in with Halloween, and stuff."

Liamh rubbed his bald head. "Yeah, i'm definitely a sort of mush between all the doctors, i couldnt' decide. I didn't get a wig since it wouldnt matter much - who's stranger than the Doctor, anyway?" he laughed. "I wish i hadn't lost the hair, though.... it's drafty."

"Almost - vietnamese." She corrected. "Close enough tho. I explored most asian cultures however." As well as some other ones, but eh. Ah, so the poor guy went blad during his change ? It was quite common, expecially for reptiles - a grim outlook that she was probably next - but she decided now wasn't the time to mention that. She almost said that he didn't look too bad bald either, but then decided this definitively wasn't a good time to say that. But damnit, she always had a weakness for the cute geeks - which was probably why she never had a date. Eh.

Gallen double taked as Liamh said it, "Lost your hair? oh man you too...errr..I mean...Oh man I am sorry, why did you not call...." Gallen felt embarrassed now...and quickly grabbed some food and stuffed it in his big mouth before he said anything else dumb.

The shark boy nodded towards the entertaining group of tipsy dancers, amused though barely caring to figure out who they were exactly. Turning his attention back to the small group that had formed, Alec listened intently and pretended he knew what they were talking about.

"Hehe yeee!" The youngster grinned at Liamh's enthusiasm, never bothering how stupid he'd look playing lame party games since it was something to pass the time. At his regreatful comment concerning his hair, Alec gave him a reassurin nudge to the arm. "A' 'ad th'coolest 'hawk n' th'fookin worl', now is all FUZZ!" He lifted his wig for a moment to point at the multicoloured leftovers of his previous hairdo with nothing more than a carefree shrug.

"Yeah, all fell out, couple days ago.." he let out a long breath. "But whatever, i'll just be really good at cosplaying Lex Luthor or Picard or something." He grinned. "Who knows, maybe it'll, uh... grow back?" he shrugged.

He peered under Alec's wig as the teen showed off his remnants of mowhawk "Oof, sorry to hear," he said, translating the thick accent. "Least you still got some, right?" he grinned hopefully.

Liamh glanced at Kim. "Ahhh, right, sorry. Vietnamese. I'm really kind of a dunce when it comes to that, but hey, i dont' think i could tell a frenchman from a german, either. You know, aside from the beer and pretzels thing."

Gallen watched intently as Alec pulled up his wig...then it hit him..the guy looked sort of like a..a...a...fish? Then he looked at Liamh, then the young lady, Kim. Through a half mouth full of food, "Yhea, My folks studied Asian folk lore." He soonwent back to munching as the others compared there changes.

Though he was in good company, he still hoped no one would notice his changes. Gallen grinned at Liamh as he swallowed what he had eaten, then he took a deep breath. The air felt thin in the room, but Gallen tried to ignore the pain he felt form breathing. "Speaking of Lex Luthor my fellow geek, can you guess who I am?" His grinned widened as he took a deep breath. His Lung still felt two sizes smaller though.

"Wow, that sucks." Usually Kim didn't really have issues with accents, but Alec's really ought to have come with a manual - it has taken her a few seconds to actually understand what the teen had been talking about, curling one strand of her own black locks around her finger nerviously. All that hair loss talk had her on edge a bit.

Then, Liamh spoke, and she laughed a bit. "Oh, trust me, I wouldn't either, they all look the same."

"Heh, i wonder if they're giving out prizes for the games," he chuckled, nodding at Alec. "I bet you could totally kick ten arses at bobbing for apples. We could team up and make off with the whole pile of candy or whatever they might be giving out... You have a favorite treat, Kim?" He grinned evilly.

Liamh looked Gallen over. "Uhh, hmm." He narrowed his eyes, taking in the black outfit, the scruffy hair, the cape... "Hey! I know! It's Vampire Hunter D?" He looked exultant, then his face fell. "Ah, no, wait, i think he's got a hat...." He leaned back to ponder it.

Gallen laughed, "who is Vampier Hunter D?" He let Liamh ponder over his costume. He felt a little dizzy as he did this, takeing in another deep breath.

"Actually..." She chuckeled a bit. "That would be the apples themselves. Or cocktail weenies. Too much sugar would be too bad for me in the whole run so I learnt to avoid it. If you really want an actual candy however... I would have to say Reeses peanut butter cups. I havn't had one of those in ages." And man did she needed one now. Augh.

Upon Liamh's failute of guessing the costume, she tilted her head in thought as she tried to guess. "Rulling out the "emo kid" answer... Augh, damnit, I know this..." She muttered. The costume was somewhat familiar, but she couldn't find what it was for the life of her.

...and then they started talking about stuff he didn't know a thing about again. Alec reached back to snatch up another handfull of easily-accessible snack foods, filling his cheeks as an excuse to his sparse contributions to the conversation. Luckily he hadn't spotted the bat-man nearby, though he probably would've have been able to correctly identify him if he tried. All-in-all a good thing, of course.

Hr grinned at Liamh and suddenly decided it was about time to stake out the fun and games in the joint, already scanning the area for where they might be hiding. "Wanneh 'ave a try? A' be' a' coul' beat ue's all!" The childish shark snickered, haughtily challenging even though it already had been said that he'd most likely win.

"Mmmmm... peeeenut butter cups..." Liamh said, his eyes glazing over zombielike at the mention of them. "Oh lord, why did you have to mention them... they've gotta have 'em around here somewhere..." he glanced over the table, snagging a peanut-butter covered celery stick. Not the same, but it'd staunch the craving for the moment.

"Heh! You're on, Alec! Anyone wanna go see what they've got? I haven't had any alcohol yet, but i can still make an arse of myself in no time..." He thumped the sharkboy on the back, glancing over curiously as he noted the fin. Ahh, that made sense.

"Yeah, im starting to hate myself for mentionning them too." She eyed the celery sticks, but that wouldn't do. No, she needed the real thing if she was to have anything. Lord.

"I don't think ill be too good, but I can try, I guess..." She said, a bit shyly, but then, suddently, her eyes brightned up. "OH." She pointed at Gallen. "Sandman !!! Right ?"

Gallen smiled, "I am game" He looked to Kim, "Umm miss you want to try your luck too?" he took another deep breath, one game and he might head out side for a bit to get some fresh air. he still was not sure what was wrong with him, sides the scales, pointed ear, claws, and peach fuzz fur. "BINGO!!!, I was worried people would think I was Dracula." he looked at Liamh, "I guess a vampire hunter is close to that though, but yhea I am Neil Gaiman's Sandman, Dream. What dreams can I weave for you my lady?" He bowed. “or would you prefer nightmares" he looked up with an evil grin.

"I only knew that because a guy I went to school with was completely addicted to those comics. And I've had my shares of nightmares, so ill'd rather the first option." She winked.

Alec chuckled at the mention of alcohol, figuring he'd have to hit that table sooner or later. For now, his attention was drawn to the celery stick Liamh had grabbed. He wasn't one for vegetables but he had to admit, they looked really good to his lack of discrimination of food choices. With little regard to his chewing ability, he popped one in his mouth and paused as it automatically created a somewhat sticky and obtrusive mess in his jaws so that he'd try his best to keep his mouth shut until he was sure it was all down. Cursed teeth.

He pointed in the direction of the games, indicating to the group whether they wanted to head over or not.

"Heh, you're right, Kim!" Liamh smacked himself in the forehead - a little too hard. He winced, and rubbed the sore spot. "Totally Sandman, why didn't i think of that...." He smirked, wrinkling his forehead experimentally.

Snagging another finger sandwich, he grabbed the two next to him by the shoulders and then nodded at the game area. "Games! Come on, or they'll find me passed out in a bobbing bucket in half an hour with an apple up each nostril!"

he smiled up to Kim, "Then I shall make a note to chase the bad dreams away from you." he grinned as he felt once more a need to take a deep breath. This was not fun. So was this what it felt like to have Asthma? He tried to ignore it as he stood up straight again.

“it has been a while since I read the comics, but I have them on a file in my laptop, if you ever want to read them let me know. Same for you Liamh, and your ..errr.. creepy fishy clown friend.”

"Oh, what a nice mental image." Kim somehow managed to speak in between fits of laughter at the mental image that had just been painted into her mind. Specifically the apples in each nostrils. "I think that would hurt, so we'll better hurry, shouldn't we ?" She slid an arm over Liamh's shoulder, not really thinking or caring that she might be getting a bit too physical - too happy and distracted to do so.

Alec shoved Liamh's back playfully as they collectively turned to make their way over to the games, making sure to remind himself not to bob for apples. His face paint had been a pain in the arse to do the first time, he couldn't imagine trying to touch it up in the dark.

Hearing Gallen's comment, the teen glanced back over his shoulder. "Ay, 'am no' thaaa' bad." The youngster then let a wide and malicious-looking grin spread across his clown-like features, making sure to allow the fleshy gums to drop down and reveal the rows of pearly blades to complete the look. He was loving his costume way too much already, and the night had barely begun.

Gallen shuddered and the grinned timidly, "I shall have nightmares of that for days to come. Thanks. and I had just got over my fear of clowns." He laughed

Grinning as he rocked back from the shove, Liamh laughed. "Daaannng, Alec. Those are some scary choppers. I think even Roy Scheider would be running if you got ticked off."

He smiled as he found Kim's strangely-shaped arm on his shoulder. "Hey! I hear they've got something called "wrap the mummy", we could give that a try. I vote Alec as the mummy, however it works..."

"Remind me not to piss you off, man." And yet another comment about the teen's teeth. But then, as a shark, it was expected.

"Yeah, that sounds fun !" The young girl grinned.

Alec laughed at all the teeth comments, feeling a little better about his looks when others were deriving amusement him them. "Heh, ye. Joos' mind th'fins mate, a' joos' go' 'em waxed!" He joked about the game and followed the group towards the other side of the tent. He didn't know what the game was about but it sounded fun enough.

Gallen smiled and followed the group, but soon went to a corner and knelt down. "Sorry all, just give me a sec to catch my breath."

Joining the others, Liamh laughed his best evil genius maniacal laugh. "Yeeesss, come, we shall make mischief.... and, you know, stuff our heads in buckets of fruit and cold water. Whichever comes first."

"Don't forget the peanut butter cups. There better be some around here I swear." Kim laughed, eying Gallen with worry as he backed off. "You're ok man ?"

The day had started normally - in fact, Kim had forgotten what day it was. Thanksgiving was really nowhere in her family's celebrations, and she only knew about it from her American friends, and seemed to forget the date with every year that passed.

Turkey tasted odd anyway. Chicken was much better.

With that said, she had gotten up in the morning, took a shower, dressed up, tested her sugar level, was pleased to see it at a good level, and then went on with her day. It was a bit late in the day, as she very rarely woke up any earlier than 10 o'clock, so the sun was well up and there was no need for her to carry a jacket. It was a bit sad to think about... having to carry a jacket on a tropical island. So was the curse of the cold-blooded.

She had barely stepped outside that she noticed something was wrong. The village was pretty busy... which was not where the root of the problem.

It was busy with turkeys.

The living, breathing, pooping, clucking kind of turkey.

Was that some kind of sick joke ? How the hell did the birds get there. From her walking around them, it became all too evident that they where far from savage turkeys - who would probably have ran while they where too close.

She managed her way to the cafeteria, and just gave a blank stare at the feast that laid out in front of her eyes. When she remembered the month, she finally figured out that it HAD to be thanksgiving... or very close to it at least. She had forgotten about keeping track of the date on her laptop. In fact, the device was sightly unused beside serving as a screen for whatever console she was playing that week. In fact, it was a wonder if she could even remember what the wallpaper was.

But there was still the turkey... problem. So, it was thanksgiving. Sure, no problem. But why so many turkeys ? And why where they ALIVE ?

What, did they expect them to kill and eat them ?

...

The thought almost brought her stomach to a turn. Uh, no. Even if she did like turkey.... no.

She decided to make a beeline back to her duplex with some food before others would come, leaving the poor birds to their fate, and perfectly unaware that one actually had her duplex number on it.

It was hard for Kim to describe what she was feeling as she headed further and further away from the village, a feat that she rarely did, no matter on her own or with others. The farest she strayed was the beach, for the sunbaths. It was the best place. But now, she had no urge to go there, instead going torward the lake.

The last few days had been... hazy, at best. It did seem like she wasn't the only one dictating her own actions, and there was urges that weren't there before. The bunch of animal instincts that had awoken with her last change, that she managed to keep mostly at bay for this long, apparently where a bit more loose. The pterodactyl was hungry - and not for the cafeteria fish. No, it wanted fresh fish. Freshest as possible, which insinuated "still kicking".

Kim wasn't quite aware of that yet, as she simply went along where the feelings took her. After keeping the instincts locked after so long, it had become unbearable, and made "co-existance" quite difficult. She figured that, as long as she wasn't hurting anybody, it couldn't be so bad to give the dinosaur what it wanted. And the pterodactyl had no intention to hurt anything that wasn't a small fish, or anything that made no move to attack it.

Once she had gotten to the lake, the young girl crouched, and watched the limpid water with an unparalleled attention. What... what was the animal trying to tell her ? Of course, it never used words. Kim and her other half communicated with feelings, with reactions and subtile hints. It wasn't exactly like speaking the same language, and miscommunication happened, but Kim figured there had to be worse in the world. The animal was like a second her, and it was likely that it would remain this way - but she was doing her best to make sure an all out war for dominance broke out. This was the closest it had gotten, and deep inside, the small part of her that was not in a slight haze was scared. The pterodactyl knew this feeling, but in a different way - the fear for your own life, or for one of your kin, the fear when a bigger predator was in your steps. As such, the reptile simply did not understand the fear. It had no intention to hurt her - having already understood that hurting her would be the same as hurting itself.

The major issue, in the animal's train of thought, was being rendered flightless - but instincts, mixed with an human's resourcefulness, would probably lead to their goal. Even if said human had no idea what role it was playing in the grand scheme of things at the moment. Maybe she would understand...

Finally, the prey was spotted. A single fish that strayed away from the school to come and breathe. The movement had to be fast... The second the fish emerged, she darted. The first reflex was the human one of graping it with her hands, which of course was stupid. The fish was caught, but wriggled out easily. The second was the animal one to catch it in her jaw and bite down hard. The fish fought, of course, and almost made it way out of the weaker jaw, but then a mixture of the two techniques what was won out - the hands helping with holding the prey until she had made her way back to the ground, very wet, and waited for the fish to die in an almost humane way before starting to eat, a bit awkwardly.

Kim pondered this in silence, as she ate her meal. The pterodactyl... had wanted to fish. It made sense, and she had to admit... this tasted better than the fish in the cafeteria, in a way she couldn't explain. Perhaps it was the feeling of earning her own food... And, oddly, she felt no aversion with what she had just done. It was normal. It was just... natural.

She wouldn't ever be the same anymore after this... She knew. And for some reason... it didn't make her sad. It didn't upset her. It was peaceful here, at the lake, with only her own self there. She wouldn't be the same, but wasn't it the same for the creature she now lived alongside of ? Even if it did not understand the situation, it was not only thrown in a body that was too slowly becoming familiar... but in a whole new area. In a brand new world, with no baring, no familiarity... and no kin left.

Just like her.

"What are you trying to tell me... ?" She whispered in confusion, trying hard to understand what all those mixed feelings where supposed to mean. It wasn't... hostile, or anything like that. It didn't want to be alone anymore. Just like her, perhaps.

If this was what being crazy was... maybe it wasn't so bad. There where conflicts... but not the conflicts, not the potential, complete death of herself that Kim had imagined it to be.

Dictated by the instincts, she picked the meat on the bones clean, avoiding anything that would be lethal, and left the corpse on the ground without a care or a regret. The scavengers would take care of what was left, and the bones would return to the earth, nourish the earth, which will in turn nourish the plants.

A perfectly natural cycle.

"Ok, I get it." She spoke to herself. "No more cafeteria fish, you prefer it extra-fresh. Im okay with that. But we're using a fishing pole next time."

A compromise, maybe. Perhaps this would be what her future would be make of - compromise of both parties to keep balance.

And, right now, with her focus returned and her fear melted... perhaps, this wasn't so bad.

Shenzi, as usual, had been wandering around in the village, a napsack over her shoulder with her iPod playing, the speakers in her ears. She had been poking her head in various buildings, when she found what looked like a recreation room. Giant TV, game systems, walls of books...

Grinning to herself, she slipped inside, looking around quickly. Empty. Good.

She made her way to the TV, turning it on and quickly changing it to a music channel. Tossing her bag onto a chair, she stopped as she listened to the music coming on, Fergaliscious by Fergie.

As the music played, she let herself move. She hadn't tried to dance since the change, and was afraid to think she couldn't anymore... Balancing on her foot, she swung her arms around as she moved, eyes shut, her hips and belly moving in a sinuous way to the music.

However, it was rare that the entertainment room stayed empty for too long.

Out of her "daze" and a change of clothes later, Kim was heading right there, probably to see if there where any new movie or anime there. It was usually kept pretty well updated, after all. She was a sight almost identical to the girl that had come a few minutes first - ipods letting out some kind of techno from the new headphones she had requested from the labs, since earbuds where obiviously out of question since her last change.

She stopped at the door when she first head music other than her own, then, looking at the blue haired girl for a moment, pondered if she should simpely go on her way or not. Her animal instincts wanted her to socialise, but the more rational side didn't want to disturb the girl.

Shenzi didn't notice the woman standing in the doorway; a determined frown suffused her face as she moved, the song changing to "Everytime we touch" by Cascada, and her moves changing pace. She leant backwards, her back an arch, a move that was usually easy enough to do, but the blueberry overbalanced, and fell over on her back; her knees hadn't bent the right way, her raised ankle threw her off.

It was when she was picking herself up, wincing slightly since she had scraped her back on the floor, and her tanktop wasn't exactly the thickest material, that she saw her in the door frame. A small blush rose to her cheeks, her pale skin turning a nice, rosy red. "Errm, volat..."

Kim simpely leaned against the doorframe after a moment, opting to at least be confortable in her indecision, but this was quickly brought to an end. She had taken a few steps in as the girl fell, but it was too little too late, and now she was spotted.

At least it spared her the decision, perhaps ?

"Vo-what ?" Was the first thing that came out of her mouth, which almost made her facepalm. "Geez, I mean... you're allright ?"

She did seem a bit embarassed herself.

The blush slowly faded, leaving the faintest pink tinge on the girl's cheeks. "Uh, sorry. I'm Shenzi..." She said, grinning sheepishly. "Uhm, yeah, I'm fine..." Was her mumbled answer as she stood up, shaking herself before looking back at the woman. Which caused a frown to form on her face again. She was definately changed, but what the hell was she?

"Uhm, and you are?"

"Kim." She answered, taking note of the frown but not doing anything to answer the unspoken question. The reactions she had gotten when revealing her animal where... rarely pleasant, and she prefered not to run after trouble. If the girl asked, she would find a way to answer - but this wouldn't be an information she would give out too freely for now on.

"Hm... you dance well." And, that was the only thing she found to say, apparently.

"Nice to meet you, Kim." She said, smiling cheerfully enough as she rubbed the back of her neck. "Eh, thanks. It's what I do for a living, and if Sabin ******** that up with this goddammed feet, then... I dunno." Shenzi shrugged indifferently, though that was anything but how she felt. Dancing was her life, and right now she was just hoping it was because she wasn't completely used to the feet.

"Oh, I understand. Completely." She did not know of this Sabin character, but she wasn't too willing to meet him, from the girl's comments. She held up an hand. "Can you imagine typing on a computer with hands like that ? A nightmare." And it would only get worse. But she did her best not to think about that.

"Maybe its just that you're not getting used to it, however." She commented. So far, her feet hadn't really changed much - just got tougher skin and claws that made ruining an hardwood floor quite easy.

Shenzi made a face, wrinkling her nose slightly. "And my feet'll just be getting worse, damn it all." She let out a gusty sigh, before grinning crookedly. "Can still sing though. Gryphon lungs shouldn't change my voice for the worse."

"I'm hoping that's the case, since dancing and singing are the only things I'm good at." She said, waving a hand in the air while sitting down in a chair. "So what d'you like, Kim?"

Wait... had she just said... ? Kim looked confused for a moment. A gryphon ? How was that possible ?

Probably the same way a dragon is possible. She thought. Or the same way they found pterodactyl dna. Don't ask don't tell.

"Gryphon ? Wow." She blinked. "Well... I went in college to program games, but I don't really have the equipment and programs to do it here. So I guess I play them. Especially Dance Dance Revolution lately..." Oh, the irony. "And I kind of started up on fishing. Long story." Didn't help that her hair where still sightly damp.

Shenzi nodded, glowering at the floor as she thought of her future. "Pft, yeah. It's bitter irony, because I'm half Czech, not entirely willingly either. And the symbols of Czech are the eagle and the lion." She shook her head, shoving away that thought again.

"Game programing? Isn't that hard?" Banzai had thought about games at one point, but had stopped that dream quickly, after learning math was needed. "How old are you?" She asked, her head tilted to the side.

"Yeah, it is. As frustrating as it can get sometimes, I couldn't see myself doing anything else." She said, blowing a bang of black hair out of her eyes. "22. Almost 23... Man, im getting old." She said, with a bit of a laugh. "What about you ?"

"You know, im starting to think those doctors love irony. I don't know which one of them woke up one morning and said "Hey, let's change a nerd into a pterodactyl !" and thought it was funny, but I fail to see the humor."

...Wasn't that supposed not to be said ? Oh. Oops.

"Oh, that's not that old. Not quite ancient." She said teasingly, laughing under her breath. "I'm 18, as of last month. November 12th."

Shenzi raised an eyebrow at the mention of a pterodactyl. "Makes sense, now that you said it... Can't say I envy you." She said sympathetically. "It's like they choose a small handful of people to pick on. Like, let's see who can be more creative! Bah..."

"What a youngin." She teased in return, grinning. "Seems like so long ago I was 18... Heh. I was just starting college back then. Great, im ranting like an old granny now." She laughed again, before becoming more serious. "Oh, and January 20, if you're wondering. And Vietnamese, not that you can really tell anymore."

"It sure seems to be that way... But there has to be a more complicated system in place. A way to make sure none of the dissapairances get linked to each other and cause suspicion... But bah." She shrugged. "Unless it's DDR, I suck at dancing." She said, visibely wanting to lead the conversation in another direction.

"Can't say I've met a vietnamese before, and I've met alot've people. I live in New York, so I see alot." She said, bringing her tone down to a confidential whisper, as if it were some intense secret, before laughing.

Shenzi mulled over that idea, chewing her lip as she thought. "Well, my parents sent me here 'cus they heard it was some kind've rehab, that went about things differently then most." She shrugged slightly; she was still marginally pissed at her parents for sending her a week before her birthday.

She grinned sympathetically. "I could show you some moves, if you'd like. Can't guarantee they'd be any good, since I think I might fall over."

"I was sent for medical therapy. Seems there's quite a few invented stories to get people in..."

She went sillent for a moment. It did sound like fun, even if she was probably going to make an idiot out of herself. "Well, at least im close enough that I will probably catch you if you fall..."

"I've heard people coming to interview the doctors, looking for long lost siblings, all sorts of stuff."

Shenzi smiled encouragingly, her smile making her face prettier then the frown. "That's true too. But it'll be fun." She looked back at the TV; the music had continued going while they spoke, and right now it was playing an older song, "Get Busy" by Sean Paul. "This is a good song to dance to." Shenzi grinned again, standing up from the chair while pushing it out've the way.

Kim wasn't really familliar with the song, but she had to agree. "Does sounds like it..." She started clearing out things herself, oddly finding herself looking forward to this little dance lesson. As long as no one else saw this.

Moving the chairs nearest the TV, Shenzi leaned against the back of one, so she could move without necassarily falling over. "Okay. First off, you let your body just kinda move to the music. Just do what seems to go with the melody, or follow what I do. I'll go slow, so it won't be hard." She said with a friendly grin as she started moving her hips, her arms in front of her. She moved her hips from side to side, giving them a small twitch for each word the rapper sang.

Kim simpely watched for a moment. If moving the feet where involved, maybe it would have bean easier since she could just fall back on the basics DDR had given her. Her movements where slower then Shenzi's, and overall a bit more reserved. She focused on following the girl's lead for the moment.

"Yeah, just like that. Do that till it feels natural, or easier at least. Usually, wearing well fitting clothes helps too, especially if you want a guy or girl to notice you." She said, grinning at Kim. "This song is better for quick movements, alot've a** shaking. Other ones are better for slow stuff, more sexy stuff."

Now, this wasn't exactly what she had been expecting, and in any other situation, she would probably found the irony funny.

She was being taught how to attract by a girl almost 5 years younger than she was. But there was nothing she could really answer to that. She didn't really know how to physically attract another person. Her only attempt had ended in failure and she had no desire to ever try again. But it was another time, almost eons ago, in a state she would never go back to, to a best friend she would never see again. She felt... oddly detached.

"Right." She said softly, then closed her eyes, listening to the music. Move, follow the beat... Listen to what the beat is saying, project it on yourself...

Just as she was no longer paying attention to her movements was when everything chained together. Her feet vent into motions as she continued moving her hips, twiling around without really noticing it.

Shenzi stopped moving as Kim shut her eyes, spinning to the music. Grinning, she pushed herself onto the arm of the chair, watching Kim twirl. She really was quite pretty, and her hair flipping about made for a nice picture. Tilting her head to the side, Shenzi occasionally made an encouraging comment, as the music changed to a different song, one she hadn't heard before, but it had a slower melody.

If she was hearing them, Kim wasn't giving too much hint of it, beside the continued dancing. As the music slowed, so she did instinctively, opening her eyes again. Was it... why all those people liked dancing ? It really did feel nice... And liberating, really.

When she realized she was the only one dancing, however, that's when the corkblock happened. Her face went from green-ish to a somewhat red color as she stopped, tilting her head in a bit of embarrassment. "Uh... was that good... ?"

Cody Archer
In front of the door of your duplex lies a small gift wrapped in regular paper by a string. There are some words scribbled with ordinary pen, saying:

"Merry Xmas. From Cody"

So long... it has been so long for Kim. So long since she had gone through the pain of a change.... and along side it, that creeping worry that something might be wrong with her serum. After all, unlike any of the other islanders thus far present.... her serum was different - VERY different. Not a normal animal, not even some sort of genetic chimaera.... but truly a relic from millions and millions of years ago. Even Seth's extinct genetic donor came from a recent sample.

And so, after the months crawled by and with no word or explanation from the labs, she wakes up one morning to a wordless reply in the form of an injection wound on the back of her right arm and a buiding fever.

Your head hurts somethign firece as the day begins.... and gradually that lump on yoru skull begins to grow, lengthening out to a long point towards the back of your head. And in some sort of twisted inverse reaction, your face begins to stretch forward - your jaw and nose both grow into a sharp beak-like point..... and stretching... more stretching - this time your neck, lengthening and yet still managing to support your deforming head.

Your pinkies - or at least what was your pinkies - grow longer and more flexible, yet stronger as the flaps of skin grow as well and thicken - your arms resembling wings more and more... and a new flap begins - this one between your legs - promising to make wearing any kind of pants neigh impossible.

Finally, the changes abate, leaving you less human - and less like any other creature living on the planet.

It had been a good hour since Jordan had finally left. Too bad she had forgotten to ask him his duplex number...

She had been laying on her bed all this time, the top sheet delivering warmth she found that she needed, so soon after her transformation. So... this was it. No more guilt, now. And... no more way to even try to hide what she was becoming, she figured. She had long since kicked her pants to the ground, the pressure they where doing on her bottom webbing was maddening. And since it did quite a good job at covering her unmentionables, she wasn't exactly giving any possible sick pervert on camera duty a free show. Not that she knew of that, of course, but... she always figured there had to be some kind of watching system even in the duplexes, and she did spot some of the few less-hidden cameras outside.

She still hadn't seen herself. And after the pain, she could only imagine the worst. What kind of monster she was looking like, now ? Well... she had to see one way, no ? Better to get it all out now and move on as soon as possible. No use to drag this out and dwell on it. Deep inside, the pterodactyl agreed.

Slowly, she moved to sit. There wasn't really too much pain about moving around, beside her arms - her other muscles hadn't really changed in the process, and that included her legs. The new webbing was still aching a bit, and it made her walking awkward, but nothing that made her unable to walk.

Then, once she finally reached the bathroom and saw herself in the mirror. And... while a shock, it... wasn't as bad as her reaction to her previous transformation had been. Her face, in particular, made her heart sink, but... it wasn't like she hadn't expected it. At least... her hairs where still there. It was better than being bald, maybe... Even if it did look extremely odd.

As for the instinctive part of her, the pterodactyl was happy with what it saw. Now this was finally getting familiar. Hunting would work, and maybe even daring to glide around. It knew that it would take awhile to get that trough the human half, but... the pterodactyl was a patient creature. It would wait.

Stupid webbing. Now pants would be next to impossible, as would be most of her shirts. Bah. She could do like Cass did, probably. Funny how about some of the snake's old clothes would now go back to another home.

But... later. Sighing to herself, she decided that now was time to bed. There was a dull sense of acceptance toward her new self. And she was now sure, more than ever, than she was doomed to be alone.

After the party, Kim and Jordan had spent some time together, then each went their way. This had been... oddly soothing for Kim. As much as she was now stuck in complete happy puppylove, she wasn't completely ready to share the same home as someone else. It was part instinct - the animal side of her wasn't ready to let him completely into her nest, mate or not. It could wait some more, there was no rush.

But that had been a few days ago, and Kim had discovered something annoying. Going around in the 1 skirt she had what hell. She had unsown the sleeves from the shirt she used as nightwear and could always wear that when she hand-washed said skirt in her duplex, thanks to some washing soap she burrowed from the village, but it WAS getting annoying. She didn't really have any other option than to have to call the labs. That, and the Wii box laying on her desk was raising forth another problem - she either had to get a tv, or have to lug it to the entertainment room and forth constantly, which wasn't the favored idea. The adapter she used to plug the other consoles to her laptop wouldn't do.

She really should have asked Jordan to call, but... she really didn't want to look like a wuss in front of him. So, she had to do it herself. She really, REALLY disliked calling the labs still, especially since her run in with the big man herself. But... she didn't really have any choice.

She started at the intercom for a moment, then finally pressed 0. It didn't take long for a bored voice to answer. "Yes ?"

"Uh.... Well, this is Kim Nguyet, duplex 22." Sounded like a good start. "I... would like to order a few things."

"Just list 'em." Kim couldn't shake the feeling that the person couldn't care less, but said nothing.

"Well, I need mostly clothes. Skirts and sleeveless tops, in pinks, purples, or blacks. About a week's worth would do, really... And... I could really use a tv to put in my duplex. Doesn't need to be an huge, expensive one or anything, just enough to hook up a few consoles on it." Asking for too much, after all, would only have her order refused."

There was the sound of typing on the other end. "That's it ?"

"Yeah, that's it." The pterodactyl woman answered. And then she was surprised to see her line cut automatically. Hmph. Meh, at least it was done.

For now, she had to go trough her things and put aside what she couldn't use anymore. Maybe it could be useful to someone else, if they where short.
