Ellandra blinked. "H-how could I help?" She asked, confused as to why he might think she'd be helpful to him in any way. After all, she couldn't possibly be of much use when her only talent was writing!

"We can borrow a costume--something modest--for you to wear and you can come help me do the barking for my booth. I'll even show you a few easy tricks for fortune telling so you can be my assistant for the night," Faolan explained, liking the idea more and more. "You don't really know much about what I do there and this will be a good way to show you."

Ellandra blushed. "M-me? But I can't - I - I mean...... h-how could I - I can't even t-talk to people!" She stammered out. Really, she wanted to help Faolan, she truly did, but she didn't handle strangers well at all - it was a miracle she'd been able to speak with Faolan that first night! Faolan meant well, she knew, but she'd probably take business away from his booth rather than bring it in . . .

Faolan stopped walking and turned to look at her, putting a hand gently under her chin so she was looking up at him. "You trust me, don't you? I'd never do anything to hurt you or ask you to do something I really didn't think you could do. Think of this as experience to write about. I love you, Elle, and I believe in you. You're stronger than you give yourself credit for."

"A-all right," Ellandra said, and nodded. "But I'm afraid I'm not good at t-tricking people, n-not really." She tilted her head a little and paused for a moment, then adding, "Aside from getting o-out of having to go to book signings, anyway." She blushed a little as she added that last part, before smiling at Faolan. "I - I can try. . . . but don't say I didn't warn you if - if all your customers leave o-or something. . ."

Faolan shrugged. "If they do, then they do. You'll learn from it and be better next time. I wasn't born able to do this, you know. My dad had to teach me, too."

Ellandra bit her lip and looked away. "I - I'd hate to cost you your customers, though," she said quietly, her eyes glistening with tears. "Y-you have more faith in me than you should, I think," she added in a voice barely above a whisper. "B-but. . . .it's nice. . . that you do - I . . . I'm so thankful that you believe in me. . ."

"Oh, come now. You won't cost many anyone. And I'll always have faith in you," Fao said, taking her hand and leading her back toward her apartment. "Let's get your things and go have lunch, then off to Farstep for much merriment and lots of embarrassment on my part."

Ellandra nodded. "Y-yes. . . we really do need t-to get going...." She hurried inside, giving the stray cat a sad look as she went in. She hurriedly threw some clothes into a bag, not really caring what she grabbed - it was all much the same anyway. once she had done she glanced around her apartment again, frowning at it. It seemed so empty, despite having a large amount of furniture. Maybe it was just because her life here had been so empty.

Faolan waited for her outside, kneeling down and making friends with the cat. They were two of a kind, he thought, both having been strays taken in by the same beautiful girl. He let Rags perch on his shoulder, staying knelt down on the porch. One of the neighbors passed by, giving him an odd look, and he waved to them, giving a feral grin, and then laughing when they hurried past faster.
He looked up as Elle came back out, still crouched down, sitting on his haunches, with the cat perched on his shoulder. "Hi."

When Ellandra left her apartment and saw Rags sitting on Faolan's shoulders, she smiled. "Making friends?" She asked, her eyes sparkling. "If my apartment allowed p-pets, I would have adopted him . . . the best I can do is feed him, though. It's not enough. . . but it's all I can do. . . " She scratched the cat gently behind an ear, with a bit of a sad expresion on her face as she did so.

Faolan stood up, the cat lying down across his shoulders like a stole. "I could take him to live with me, if you wanted. No one at Farstep is going to care if I have a stray cat living in my vardo."

"I-I'd like that," Ellandra said, reaching up to gently touch one of the little cat's front paws. "I think he'd be dead by now if I didn't feed him.... h-he can't take care of himself, n-not really. I would f-feel better if I knew he was taken c-care of. . ."

Faolan pulled her to him, giving a playful grin. "First I'll steal your cat, and then I'll steal you." He took her hand when she touched the cat's paw and brought it to his lips, giving it a soft kiss. "Are you ready to go? With the cat, we should just go to Farstep. We can get food there. They have a nice stand that vends sandwiches."

Ellandra smiled softly and blushed when he kisses her hand. "I really h-have no preference f-for lunch," she said, looking up into Faolan's eyes. "I don't mind eating, well, anything as - as long as it means I'm with you. . ." She was completely serious, too. Although, well, she probably still wouldn't want to eat anything with peanuts in it - after all, she was allergic, so that would be a pretty stupid idea.
