Auren and Aestivalis stayed locked together before Auren kneed Aestivalis, only to encounter armor.
Aestivalis drove his left hand into Auren's stomach, knocking the wind out of the older warrior. Auren fell backwards into a roll, while Aestivalis spun in place with the follow through, cloak flowing around him like leaves.
Taking a defensive stance while Auren coughed and rose to his feet, his eyes flickered up to Oriana with a hint of confusion.
Wasn't Auren normally alone?

Releasing her arrow it flew straight for Aestivalis's head, while silent ice spikes shot out of the wall behind him.
Oriana hissed and summoned two more arrows, loading them, and waited for his next move.

Aestivalis silently dodged the arrow and spikes, twirling like a dervish.
Auren shot up a look at Oriana like she was nuts after they nearly hit Auren. Shooting into a melee, was she nuts!?
Focusing back on Aestivalis, he sprung back and charged in with a low sweeping strike on the half-demon. The other man parried the massive sword with his ow.
Both warriors went after each other, whirling and making wide sweeping strikes, blue and silver swords counter-pointing eachother while neither was able to land a hit.
Who is this guy? Auren thought to himself. They had the exact same fighting styles and yet... he had never taught anyone this combat style.

Oriana vanished her bow and threw the two arrows into the floor, where they sunk into the ice. Obviously she wasn't making things any easier for either of them, so she went over to a nearby bench and closed her eyes.
~~~~~~~~~~
"Look Vienna, I knew you would bring the sun to Yukon." Damir smiled as he nuzzled his wife's cheek.
She blushed and pushed him playfully, "Sweetheart, I don't control the weather... It's just one of those rare occasions in Yukon, where there's no blizzard."
"..... And you just Happen to be here...?" He smiled playfully and kissed her neck.
"Now stop that Damir... We have to go check up on the girls soon..."
"In a couple days... Let's enjoy this time." he cooed as he pulled her onto his lap.
The two sat on a large sofa like chair and snuggled, when suddenly the warmth they had once enjoyed quickly vanished, and was replaced by a cold, windy, rainy storm.
"Damir...." Vienna paled as she watched the storm roll in.
He growled and stood up, cradling his wife, "I gotta go. I'll be home later on tonight."
Just as he went to rush off Vienna stopped him in the doorway, "Oh no! She's my daughter too! You're taking me with you."
Damir gave his wife a persistent glare, then caved in, "Fine, But you two will have to stay out of the way..."
"..... But i can fight too..." She whimpered as she threw on her winter coat, and followed her husband out the door.
Auren and Aestivalis dueled. It was slight but becoming more pronounced as the duel continued.
Auren was slowing down, getting tired while Aestivalis was still there, still on him like a shark smelling blood.
Auren growled at the end of the last exchange, backing off while Aestivalis slid back.
"So Taravael sent you, to kill me. For what, because I denied him victory for three years?" he growled.
Aestivalis shrugged. "Not for me to know. I'm just a tool in his hands, after all."
"Damn straight you are." Auren snarled as he lunged forward in a fast impaling strike.
Aestivalis drifted out of the way and before Auren could regain his balance, a blinding white pain shattered his cool nerves as steel carved through flesh and bone, the blade traveling his body before exiting and the loss of feeling in the left side of his body and his arm.
Stumbling forward, he looked to his left where he had the scar and discovered his arm was gone, along with a good slab of flesh. Blinking stunned, he stared at the injury while he heard steel being resheathed.
"I will leave you to your lover to spend your last remaining time in peace." Aestivalis said quietly as he started to leave the castle. Auren stared at his left arm at the floor and felt so weak.
Oriana paled and shot up from her seat. She had left enough of a warning, and new her father was on the way, but now she just had to keep Auren alive long enough for him to get here.
She ran down the stairs and cradled him in her arms, "Why...." she whispered as tears streamed from her eyes, "Why does this have to happen..." she kissed him softly and brushed the side of his face with her hand.
Auren sank to his knees slowly, looking at her with a pained smile, trying to stay strong for her while he felt his lifeblood leaving him. "Those of us who live by the sword ultimately die by the sword, Oriana. As much as I wanted to leave that life style behind..." Auren coughed hard, the cough wracking his ravaged frame.
"I could not. Things eventually came back to me and this is where it ends, I... think." Auren tried to say optimistically, trying to instill hope in her.
Oriana wrapped her arms around him tightly, and cried, "I love you Auren.... I always will...."
~~~~~~~~~
On the way down the hill, Damir saw a man leave from the castle with blood on him, and became enraged. A long blade made of ice jutted from his hand and he lunged for the man.
Vienna could already feel the situation inside. she could feel her daughters pain and knew that she was far too late to help anything. Vienna dropped to her knees and laced her hands. tilting her head back to look at the sky she closed her eyes, and began to pray for the man her daughter held in her arms.

Aestivalis looked up at the charging Damir and seemingly drifted out of the way of the lunge.
"Sir, may I ask your quarrel with me?" Aestivalis called out as he took a defensive stance. He would not unsheath his sword unless he had no other choice.

Damir looked up at the man with glossed eyes, "You hurt my daughter... And you picked a fight in my house... Now you'll have to deal with me." he lunged forward and swung a mid level horizontal strike.
~~~~~~~~~
Letting the fog of this nightmare clear from her mind she started thinking like her mother; medically. Once, she had created healing water, that was highly effective, but it wasn't easy, and took a lot out of her....
Oriana laid auren flat on his back and closed her eyes. she smiled, "This might hurt a bit, but i'm going to see if i can slow the bleeding; even stop it." she placed her hand over the wound and it froze over. focusing agonizingly hard she was able to change the water being warmed by his body heat to healing water, that would close up the nerves, veins, arteries, etc...
~~~~~~~~~
When Vienna no longer felt as much pain she became curious as to what was going on and went inside to find her daughter healing the man. Absolutely stunned beyond belief by the event she stumbled over to her daughter, and placed her hands over orianas, "Sweetheart, Enjoy the time you have with him... I'll take over your job. You've done well."
Oriana came out of her state of mind and fell to her right, but caught herself with her hands. she laid down beside him and smiled, "Just hang on..." she pleaded as she bit her lower lip to keep herself from crying.

Aestivalis dove to the side, opposite to the sword stroke before rolling to a stand still. Hopping to his feet, he was determined not to hurt Damir.
"I am sorry sir but it was required for my own mission. It was unavoidable." Aestivalis backed up, holding his hands out in a gesture of peace.
~~~
Auren was very pale when he looked at Oriana with a weak, reassuring smile. To be perfectly honest, it was too late for Auren. He had lost too much blood in the intervening time. Pulling her close to him with his good arm, he nuzzled her again and whispered three words before the weak light in his eyes died.
With one shuddering final breath, General Auren Shiro passed from the world.
~~~
Savarti was distrubed. Something was pulling her back to the house. Someone very valiant had passed away and it had drawn her like a moth to the flame.

Damir growled, "I don't care if it was your mission or not. Either you will pay the price or the man who sent you." A second spike came from his other hand and he turned, charging at the man again.
~~~~~~~~~~
Oriana laid there for several minutes crying and her mother laid next to them. It would seem that she was too late, and she let her daughter down. While Oriana cried, Vienna stood up and walked to the entrance of the castle. Opening the doors she yelled, "Enough! What's done is done, Damir... The most we can do is..."
Vienna stared in horror at her husbands opponent. she rushed out and grabbed the man's hand, "Wha.... Why are you.... " she paled and stepped back, pressing into her husbands chest.
Damir wrapped his arms around her, feeling her tremble in his arms. He glared at the man, and just as he was about to open his mouth his wife touched his lips.
"You're related to him...... Aren't you?" Vienna stuttered, dreading the wait for the answer.
Aestivalis took a few steps respectfully back from the couple. Taking a breath he closed his eyes and then opened them, looking at them. Unlike his father's eyes, his eyes were crimson.
"That I am." he said quietly. "I've been told he was my father by my lord and my mother, and I can trust their word, seeing as that one is the Lord of Karazin, along with my mother being a succubus. She was ordered to lay with my father but not drain him lest the ruse be up. Aye, I know am a simple weapon and contingency plan. The General did stop Lord Taravael from taking over the world."
He sighed "So, I am merely Aestivalis and I am a blade for Lord Taravael. That is all I am." He held his arms outstretched.
Despite his gesture of peace, he was still ready for any attack incoming.
"Why did you have to go kill your Father?! You could have just stayed there! Stayed with them! Had a life other than the life of a weapon!"
Vienna pushed her husbands arms away and began walking toward Aestivalis with the anger of a scolding mother, "You could have... could have...." as her husband grabbed her hand to hold her back from Aestivalis she began crying, "Stopped so much pain... why? Why do you choose this life?"
~~~~~~~~
Oriana looked up from her lovers corpse and saw the glint of his blade through her tears, and suddenly became numb. the frost of the castle coiled up around her, encasing her body in a protective layer of ice. she picked up the sword and saw her icy reflection.
'One of us will join you today love... and despite what you want... i hope it's me.'
She swung the blade downward and charged out the door at such a speed that she appeared as a blur of icy blue.

Aestivalis had a hint of a smile grace his features. "Ah touche, my lady but its not that easy. On the outside it seems that way but that's how I was raised. I choose it because it is the only thing that I know. That of a soldier."
Sensing no threat from the couple. "If you will, I will take my leave from you and leave in peace."
When Oriana reached close, he sensed her rage and turned around and stared at the blue mass with his father's sword.
"M'lady, I have no quarr--" he was cut off as he threw himself backwards to avoid that humming sideswing from Oriana. He felt a hot sting across his chest as his full plate armor was cut through like so much cobweb. Falling to the ground, he hissed in pain while rolling to get on his feet.
