"Yes but to them it took longer, though at least we were engaged," Lore did add as an after thought.
He couldn't imagine now how old everyone was, but it had been a very long while here, and if Tinuviel wasn't married yet.. well it wasn't the end of the world. Lore himself had been over two centuries before even courting anyone.

"That is indeed our next destination," Sir Valdemar agreed, tucking the evil book under his arm and holding it tightly. "Come, let us hope we can make the return trip a bit faster than it took us to get down here. I do hate it down here, almost as much as I hate the materials that I must keep hidden here."
He frowned and took the torch from its bracket once more, then ushered Lin towards the door.

Elnara smiled. "Yes ... I wonder how long our engagement was for them," she murmured thoughtfully, climbing onto the bed and propping herself up with some of the many pillows. She let Garrick crawl over her lap as she unbottoned her shirt, then set him up to drink.
"I mean," she murmured, "if I'm supposed to be ... say ... eighty by now, then our engagement could easily have been twenty years for them."

Lin didn't need to be told twice, she would rather not be in that book's company more than needed to be, and she couldn't blame Sir Valdemar not wanting to be in here. She hurried along back out the way they came in.
She couldn't help wonder though how much time had passed.

Lore took a seat beside Elnara and let Hana down so she too could crawl (within reason). This way she had something to while waiting to be fed, or at least that was the logic Lore was using.
"Twenty years is a long time..." Lore murmured.

By the time Sir Valdemar and Lin made it down to the queen's study once more (a long way, even if most of it was heading down instead of up), the ancient historian's arms were beginning to ache. Not from the weight of the book, though it was indeed quite heavy, but simply because of the evil it embodied, and the emotional baggage it carried along with it.
Atalya and Reave were talking together in quiet tones when the two arrived, and when they stepped into the room both of them rose from their seats to greet them.
"Sir Valdemar," Atalya said, startled, "you're so pale ..."
Sir Valdemar bowed his head respectfully. "Forgive me, my Queen," he murmured, "but it will pass." He lifted his head once more. "Lin has brought me ... bad tidings," he continued reluctantly, his brow furrowed anxiously. "The return of Altak-Bet AinĂșl ... it was ... it has ..."
He swallowed.
"It was not the only thing from the past to have returned."

Lin looked nervously between Sir Valdemar and Atalya and Reave. She at least knew what it was, but now the question came to mind what happened that brought it back?
Personally it was times like these Lin thought she thought of too many questions....

"That is impossible," Atalya replied without hesitation, though a flicker of fear passed over her face. "They assured us that none save Achaar and their father returned, and both are now dead ..."
"They were mistaken," Sir Valdemar interrupted firmly. "The Morgawr has returned ... Elros, one of the Noldor, sent Lin to tell me. He resides at Haven, with your cousins, as one of the guardians of the ranch. He has been here a few times returning children who had been taken by slave traders ... he was there, my Queen, when the Morgawr first roamed ... and he of all people would know one when he saw it."

Lin twisted her fingers together nervously and added, "Lothiriel and P- err.. Estel saw it, they told Haven, that's how Elros knows about it. Haven now has larger groups of people going out on hunts, and returning children. He says it just isn't safe for it to be like it use to."
She hoped that helped, Lothiriel had a good head on her shoulders, and so did Pen when he wasn't being silly.

Atalya looked sharply at Lin, her eyes narrow as if she couldn't quite believe her.
"And when was this?" she asked curtly. "There is always a long period of time between your visits, if the danger were so great we would have heard something long before this."
"Atalya," Reave said softly, reaching out and putting one hand on her shoulder to calm her.
Almost immediately the queen's eyes softened. "I am sorry," she murmured to Lin. "But I cannot ... I cannot believe that they are back ... it hardly seems possible ..."

Lin couldn't really blame Atalya, but she really did try her best to be here so she could ask and give the message along.
"I don't know why there hadn't be anything until now," Lin shrugged helplessly, "I just know it's serious. Elros was really worried, and when it gets to the point where he won't tell me the details himself it is bad."
Because of course Lin had grown up with Elros always not being effected by anything, and he was greatly effected by this.

"Your Majesty," Sir Valdemar spoke up once again, his eyes hesitant, "there is ... one ... who may be able to destroy the creature ..."
He looked at Lin, eyes filled with anguish. "But it would require that I break a promise," he murmured softly to her. "Lin ... do you believe my Lord would forgive me ... for making his presence known?"
Atalya's eyes narrowed slightly, suspiciously. What was he talking about? Or, more specifically, who?

Lin wondered if it was possible to do so without revealing who he was, but that probably wouldn't work. No, not highly likely, but it left a question to Lin as in why Aragost had not brought this up before, but then again she didn't spend a great deal of time with the man.
And Miyu was not the person whom one talked about crisis of mass destruction with.
"He won't be happy about it, but I think he will.... I can't really imagine him not realizing it's going to come down to this," Lin replied slowly.
After all he wanted to protect his family, and his family was pretty much spread out into all the elven nations.
"But just family," she added quickly, "Just us and just family."
Atalya could know, and so could Reave, but Lin understood it wasn't a good idea for everyone to know. The rest of Haven was not to know, general public and so forth, she would really really like Aragost to continue being there in Haven or wherever someone who likes to be scarier than her Dad likes to be.

"He does after all have the knowledge of the Valar," Sir Valdemar murmured. He closed his eyes and shuddered slightly. "Forgive me ..."
He turned back to the queen. "My Queen," he began softly, "also living at the ranch is a man ... and elf of the Firstborn, the Eldar, like myself ... but where my strength lies in knowledge, his is in knowledge, power, and magic combined. He is not just a Firstborn, he is the First Born ... and he has the power of the Valar at his command. He alone, if anyone, would have the power to abolish this creature, to save the entire Four Lands from suffering the same fate as the land during the time of Altak-Bet AinĂșl."
"And who is he, that there is so much secrecy surrounding his presence?" the queen demanded. "Why may only our family know?"

"Because that was his request the first time anyone found out about him," Lin replied.
Which was technically true, Aragost had said his family may know, but no one else, granted that was back in Haven, and she was pretty sure the family living here wasn't included in that, but she was not going to bring up technicalities with Aragost of all people.
Lin then added quickly mumbling a bit, because she hated breaking promises, "And he's related to you."
