"A burger sounds good to me. And if we get there and I don't want a burger, I'm sure they'll have other things for me to choose from. We don't have to run all over town or anything."

Carlos picked up his birthday card, carefully folding it up and placing it in his pocket. There was no other way to carry it, or he would have left it unfolded. Then he grinned and took hold of Adrian's arm. "Sounds good to me! Are you ready? Do you need a coat?"

Adrian gave Carlos a look and shook his head. The unicat was so silly, getting excited over a hamburger. He grabbed his leather jacket. "I can't exactly put this on with you hanging on to one of my arms."

Adrian slipped his jacket on and made sure he had his wallet before following Carlos out the door. "Then why are you leading?" He asked, with a slight smirk on his face. "There's a small place just down the road from here. It's not too far."

Carlos laughed, "I'm not leading! I'm just hopping in circles around you." He proceeded to demonstrate, a definite skip to his steps even as he finally came to rest at Adrian's side. "That sounds good to me!"

Adrian just shook his head at Carlos. "You are way too excited, kid." He continued to lead the way to a small burger place. "The place has decent food, so you should enjoy it, at least."

In all honesty, it wouldn't matter if the food was terrible. He was finally spending the day with Adrian, and it was as close to a date as he could remember spending with him. "All right, maybe I got too excited, sorry..." he said far more sedately than before, his tail waving side-to-side.

Adrian thought it was a little cute that Carlos was so excited about just going out to grab a quick bite to eat, not that he would ever admit that. "Yeah, you did kid." He ruffled the unicat's hair. "We're here." He gestured to a small burger place up ahead.

"Sorry..." Carlos murmured a bit sheepishly. As they approached the shop, he wondered whether to get just a regular old cheeseburger and fries, or if he should order something special? It seemed like a special occasion though, even though it was just hamburgers, it was just down the street, and no one had bothered to dress up. But it was Adrian. Feeling silly, he glanced back at the rat curiously.

"You're just being you." Adrian stepped up to the door and held it open for Carlos. "Order what you want, okay?" He walked up to the counter and waited for Carlos to place his order first.

"Oh... um, okay..." The unicat passed through the door when Adrian held it for him, then went straight to the counter with the rat, looking up at the menu uncertainly. So much for knowing what to order. Well, he would just have to go all out. He ordered a double cheeseburger with bacon, fries and a soda. All together it probably weighed more than he did, but he was just the type that could pack it away and never gain any weight. Revved up metabolism. He grinned at the cashier and paid - he was not about to let Adrian do it under these circumstances, then stepped aside and waited, glancing back at the rat. He was still smiling; he could not help it.

Adrian was about to pull out some money to pay for Carlos' meal, but the unicat beat him to it. So much for trying to be nice, he thought. The rat ordered a simple salad with dressing and a root beer. He paid for his food and stepped over beside Carlos to wait for their orders.

Carlos watched Adrian make his order. Uh oh, was he supposed to let Adrian pay? Great, now he was confused again. Tugging at his ear uncertainly he asked, "Everything okay?"
