Listening to what the man had to say about not seeing anyone since he had gotten there, Shin had a disappointed look on his face. The man explained why he was there and then grabbed his things to go, now that the floor board was finished. "Ah, thank you!" Shin said, trying to throw up a smile for the nice villager that had come in to fix the floor board. As the door closed behind the man, Shin stood in his apartment by himself. He had the urge to go searching for his cousin Kolo, but then again if he just stayed home, maybe Kolo would come to him! There couldn't be many places Kolo had gone since today was his first day at the village. Shin thought that he might have gone out to eat since the Nara didn't keep much food save ramen in the apartment. Slipping off his shoes, Shin noticed that they were rather muddy. Going to the window, the boy slapped his shoes together to let the dried mud fall off onto the dirt road below. Putting his shoes by the door, Shin sat on the couch. "Hm..." he hummed to himself, tapping his fingers against the cushions. Shin hadn't been home alone in a long time. The only time he really spent time in this new apartment was to sleep!

"Ah!" Shin said, thinking of something to do. He hadn't used any of his chakra today, so he thought it might be a good idea to practice something to challenge his chakra. Getting up from the couch, he went to a pile of books in the corner. Most of them were scrolls that Hanabira had written for notes. Shin smiled, thinking about Hanabira and her love to write. It was fun to see how much she enjoyed organizing things and re-writing notes. Natamo had dismissed his squad, but not hers... Orika hadn't arrived yet to the training session, so maybe she hadn't passed her exams? That would've been rather embarrassing... Shin shook his head and hoped the best for Orika, Karite and Hanabira... He hadn't said good-bye to her! "Aaaaah!" Shin groaned to himself, hitting his forehead with an open palm. He was a good boyfriend! But he was bad about the little things and failed miserably. Grabbing a scroll with the twelve shinobi seals, Shin went back to the couch and flopped down with a hefty sigh. He would have to apologized to her or maybe stop by later to say good night. Shin had over heard Natamo say that Karite and Hanabira would be spending the night outside, so he would know where to find her.

Rolling the scroll out on his lap, Shin read over the twelve seals of shinobi arts; Ox, Boar, Ram, Horse, Monkey, Rat, Dragon, Serpent, Bird, Hare, Tiger, Dog. As his chocolate eyes reviewed each one, he made the seal with his hands pressed together. He had heard of some techniques that had twenty seals and even some that had a hundred. He couldn't imagine remember the order of those seals! He had a hard enough time remembering the twelve themselves. Putting his hands in arrangement, he held the Ox sign. "Ox," Shin said as he got his chakra to react to the seal. Moving his fingers to the next seal, he spoke its name, "Boar." The chakra within his body began to swirl as he let it leak out without performing and certain type of technique. "Ram, Horse, Monkey, Rat," he said, doing each in their own turn and pausing in between to make sure he had a good feel of his chakra reacting to his words and hands. Shin only knew two techniques and had only used a single seal in a technique, which was the ram. He wondered why some techniques needed seals and some didn't. It was a good question he could ask Kane someday.

Feeling his chakra get rather low, Shin decided to drop his hands and not finish off the seals. He could save them for the next time he would train. With a smile on his face, he figured it was time to get cleaned up for the graduation ceremony. Grabbing a towel and a change of clothes, Shin thought it best to go take a dunk in some nice cool refreshing water. Walking into his washroom, Shin turned the water on. After letting it run for a little while to fill up the tub, Shin stuck his hand underneath the clear water. "Cold!" he yelled, noticing that the flame had not been on, so he had no hot water! "Ah..." Shin groaned as he brought up his foot and dipped his toe in. With a heavy sigh, the boy lifted his shirt over his head and tossed it carelessly on the floor followed by his pants. Lifting one leg over the edge, Shin slowly began to dip it in. "Ahahahaaaaa!" he whined as the cool water made the hairs on his legs rise to attention and goosebumps race upwards all the way to the brim of his neck.

Not being able to stand it, Shin pulled his leg out of the tub getting water all over the floor. "Too cold! Too cold!" the boy said as he grabbed his towel and wrapped himself up in it for warmth. As he tucked his nose underneath the warmth of the towel, he was met by an awful smell. "Ugh," he gagged, pulling his face out from the towel as the smell of his armpits tainted his warm ball. There was no way he could go and stand in front of everyone with this kind of smell! With another hefty sigh, Shin placed the towel on a nail in the wall and tried to prepare himself for the cold water. Once again, he lifted up his leg and placed it in the water. He tried not to whine, complain or even think about the cold temperatures he was submerging himself into. Shaking violently from the chills, Shin lifted up his second leg and put it in the tub. And so, he stood there, the cold water turning his skin pale white! Bending down, Shin put his hands on the sides of the tub for support as he began to lower himself down into the water.

The moment his bum grazed the surface of the water, Shin let out a yelp like a wounded puppy. His white butt rose quickly above the water in fear of being put back in. "C'mon, Shinobu!" the Nara cheered himself on as he didn't ease himself in, but plopped down on quickly hitting the bottom of the tub and sending water splashing up over the sides. He was lucky that he didn't drop the towel on the floor, because it would have been sopping wet by now! Shin didn't notice, nor did he care as he hugged himself while sitting in the cool water. "Ok... Ok..." the boy said as the water stirred from his shakes while he forced himself to focus on taking a bath. "So-So-Soap," he whispered through chattering teeth as one arm reached out to grasp the white bar of soap. His fingers were cold, clammy and near the same tone as an Orochi's skin color! As his hands got hold of the soap, he held onto tightly with a vise grip! There was no way he would be dropping the soap in this cold water.

Not even bothering to turn and look for a cloth to lather up with soap, Shin began scrubbing his under arms with the bar itself. His motions were jolty and rigid as he went up and down with the bar of soap rather quickly. After rubbing out his armpits real well, Shin rinsed them off. "Ahaaahaha," he whined as fresh cold water hit his skin. He knew what he had to do after this. Washing his under arms was nothing to what he had to do next; dunking his head under water. Wanting to cry, Shin sniveled as he slowly submerged himself under water. He could feel his nose freezing to the point it was about to fall off! Quickly he brought himself up above water and grabbed the bar of soap washing his hair. "Cold, Cold, Cold," the Nara continued to repeat to himself as he dunked himself under the water and quickly rinsed out his hair! "Ayeee!" he squealed as he jumped out from the bath and grabbed his towel.

With the towel quickly wrapping itself around Shin's body like seaweed around a suishi roll, Shin tried to trap in any warmth he had left. His bony knees shook and rattled against one another as he continued to shake from having the chills and shivers. His chocolate eyes looked around the washroom to spot any other towel he could possibly wrap himself into. Nothing. He only had a single clean towel! Everything else was dirty. Frantically, Shin looked around for his clean clothes. "Where'd they go!?" Shin shouted nervously as he kicked things over and looked for his clean clothes. He remembered bringing them in the washroom with him and the small room wasn't that big, so he couldn't have lost them! "Aaaah!" Shin yelled as he jumped up and down attempting to get warm. Then he jumped on the wet pile of clothing. Had he knocked down his clean clothes when he was bathing!? They were all wet now! Shin quickly dashed out of the washroom wrapped up in the towel. Looking in the closet he saw no clean clothes, looking in his drawers he saw no clean clothes. Was everything dirty!?

Running out to the living room, Shin spotted a pile of clean clothes on the table. "Aha!" he said, sprinting towards it and grabbing the clean clothes. It was his last pair of pants, socks and a shirt! Throwing the towel over his head, Shin quickly dried his hair right there in the living room. He made sure to get his feet, legs and especially his bum, making sure everything was dry before he threw on his clothes. With lightning quick speed, Shin zipped up those pants and buttoned his shirt. Once he was done, he dove into his bed, wrapping up in blankets. "W-Warmth!" he yelled while nuzzling himself in and hoping to warm up quickly. The warmth of the heavy blankets was good and Shin's color returned to his face. With a happy sigh, he closed his eyes. A quick nap to recharge his batteries would be a good idea. He would drain the tub some other time....

Shin opened his eyes a few minutes later and sat up to stretch. He was warmed up, rested and ready to go! As he rose from his bed, he noticed that Kolo hadn't been home yet. "Huh..." Shin said as he looked out the window to notice that it was dark now. Walking to his door, he put on his shoes and headed out. It was time for the graduation ceremony. Shin couldn't wait for the honorary title of genin to be officially bestowed upon him!

[Enter from Village.]

As they were walking up the stairs to the apartment, Shin could tell that his cousin was pretty tired. He was glad that Kolo had met Serena since she was a really nice genin. "One of her clansmen is in my squad. You saw him, Kiba?" Shin said knowing that there were many Raikens in Shimagakure and some new ones in the academy. He hadn't met any he didn't like, so the Clan was ok in his book! Opening the door to his apartment, Shin took off his shoes. "Yuki-sensei is probably gonna have you do this exercise where you concentrate your chakra on this piece of paper," Shin started as he walked into the kitchen and started cooking. He began by pulling out a pan and filling it up with water. Shin really didn't have much in the apartment except for ramen, so dinner would be simple tonight! The shinobi ate for free at all the restaurants in the village, but Shin just couldn't bring himself to accept such charity when he really hadn't done anything for the village yet. "The paper tells you what type of elemental chakra you have... I think I have wind, but my affinity isn't very strong," Shin said with a weak smile. "Wind chakra is suppose to slit the paper in half, but mine barely made a tear," the dusty haired boy said with a little embarrassment. He wasn't the best in the academy and by far not the best genin, but he wasn't the worst. "So, I had this idea about shadows..." Shin started as he lit the stove wood to start cooking.

Scratching his head while he stared at the warming water, Shin turned and leaned against the stove. "I'm not very good at genjutsu either," Shin said, with a weak smile, kind of warning Kolo that his skills weren't proving useful so far, so he might wanna prepare for a tough academy life. "So, I was trying to think of something I was good at," the boy went on as he leaned over to the counter, setting his elbow there to prop his chin up. "And I am really good with my chakra... The Nawanuke technique uses plain chakra and I'm pretty good at that... So, I tried to think of something that was always available that my chakra could harness," Shin tried to explain his thought process, but it was hard to remember how he came up with the idea two years ago. "Shadows!" Shin just blurted out with a silly grin at his cousin. As the rumble of the boiling water his Shin's ears, he stood up and grabbed a package of ramen. The crinkly paper made a lot of noise as he opened it up and dropped the noodles in. "Night or day, there's always shadows around," Shin said, trying to back up his idea as the brick of noodles floated around like a raft in turbulent water.

Kolo never thought that his cousin had hard time. Kolo always thought that he was the smartest person he had ever meant. He felt a little discouraged to hear that he might also have a hard time. Kolo wanted to make Shin happy, he didn't know a lot about shoadows, but he conceded that shadows were always there. Kolo had a flash of brilliance when he though that maybe shadows actaully controlled movemnt. "Hey, Shin. Shaodws imitate the body, but what if we could make that link work in reverse? What if, shadows could control a persons movements?" Kolo was very pleased with the idea, but wasn't sure that Shin would take very kindly to his idea.

Kolo went back onto the thought of shadows. How could shadows be used in ninja warfare? Kolo was stumped. He didn't know how they were going to be able to use Shaodws. However, even with these thoughts, Kolo didn't want to let his cousin down, so he thought long and hard about the prompt, and then looked at Shin. "I'm sorry cousin, but I can't think of anything that could use shadows in ninja warfare." Kolo was a little dissapointed in letting his cousin down, but he knew that if he thought hard enough, he would be able to solve the problem, even if it takes a little while longer than he wanted.

Kolo had one good idea, but couldn't quite seem to back it up. He looked around and noticed that Shin had been right, even now, he cvould see shadows every where he looked. He couldn't think how he could manipulate it them in such a way to take the upperhand in combat. He liked his first idea, but it seemed like it was so good, that he could not come up with a second one that was just as good.
