"She's my stepmother." She shrugged. "We never really got along." She said, picking up a book. She had a rather large room, with green walls and garden centered decor. The bed was against the wall, and a couple of bookcases were by the windows. She called Tim, ready to ask him when he was coming over. Maybe she could steer Madame away from the house before he came.

"Oh, I see." Kero nodded knowingly.
He did a sweep of the room, then flew over to one of the bookcases with drawers at the bottom, and opened it up. "Nice room you got here." He said approvingly.
Standing on the drawer lip with his hands on his hips, he turned to her. "This looks good. Mind if I empty this out and sleep here?" He remembered the last time he'd dumped out a girl's drawer without asking. Not a great experience.

Bree left a message, and turned over and looked at the drawer he opened. She flushed, and slammed it closed. "NOT IN THAT ONE!" She went to the closet, and after a bit of rustling around, she came out with a large doll house. It was just the right size for Kero. It was already furnished, but there wasn't anyone in it. The dolls had been lost a while ago.

Kero spiraled into the air from the push. He shook his head to clear it, smiled wryly and said under his breath. "And that's why I ask now."
Then she pulled out the doll house and Kero's eyes gleamed. "Ooooo! 5-star treatment!"
He landed on the floor and opened the door to the tiny house. He disappeared inside, and rummaging sounds could be heard. From the second story window he stuck his head out, grinning. "No running water, but it'll do."

Tim felt a vibration in his pocket and fumbled for his cell phone. He usually kept it on vibrate, but sometimes that meant he wouldn't notice a call until it vibrated again to tell him he had a message. It was from Bree.
He smiled apologetically at Ally and Steven and said, "Sorry, I gotta go." He yawned. "I assume I'll see you later, since we're... in the same business now, I guess."
He waved as he walked away and called back Bree's number to tell her the time that she wanted to know in the message

Bree answered the phone, smiling. "Be glad I still have it." She said to Kero, before saying into the phone, "Hey." Caller ID=useful. She fumbled for a pen and paper.

"'Yello, just returning your call." He'd reached his house by now, and unlocked the door, stepping into the well lit interior. "Whoops, left the light on," he mumbled.
He turned the lights off as he climbed the stairs to his room. "So, what time do you want me to drop by?"
He opened the door to his room and flicked a switch on the wall. A comfortable light filled the moderately sized room. The walls were painted a maroon color, the floor covered in a brown carpet. His bed was in one corner against the wall, the headboard made of light brown wood reminiscent of an old wooden ship. There was a small TV across from that with his PS3 plugged in and running on standby. On another wall was a short bookshelf about waist high overflowing with books; all fiction.
Other than that there wasn't much else. Tim wasn't one for poster, and he had all his music stored on his MP3 player, so he didn't have any CDs. He glanced at the clock on the wall, decorated to look like a sea ships sextant. It was about 11:30 PM.

"Yup, see ya later," Steven responded. With a wave good-bye, he turned, beckoned Ally to follow, and started walking towards her house again. I will show that plush toy what league I am in soon enough he was thinking with a slight smirk.
Steven was normally a relativily laid back person, but his blood always boiled when someone mocks him, and the fact that it was a little...thing...made it all the more annoying.

"How about noon?" She said, looking out the window. She had a couple of gift cards to a restaurant that served brunch... and maybe she could give up the tickets to the matinée of Les Miserables... no she couldn't give those up. "Hey, I have a couple of tickets to go see a musical... but I don't have anyone to go with... would you like to go?" She asked him, spur of the moment.

Tim blinked. He wasn't particularly fond of musicals but... hey, free show. "Sure, never seen it," he responded brightly. "Do I have to bring fancy clothes?"

Bree glared at Kero, flushing. She put a hand over the receiver, and snapped, "Its not like that!" She swatted him away, and put the phone back to her ear. "No, you don't. So, see you tomorrow?"

Ally was still waving bye to Tim and the others when she noticed Steven and moved to join him. "Looks like you aren't the only magic user in San Tomeda anymore. *giggles* And who knows, maybe you can help those other two get on their feet. Tim even said he was new at it, didn't he?" Ally said, starting up a conversation between Steven and herself, "And I am certain that you and their teddy bear will become good friends as well."
The rest of the walk was kind of quiet, a few conversations here and there but not that many. When the two of them reached her house, which looked more like a small apartment complex than a house, Ally turned to Steven as she opened the door and said,
"It is my birthday soon, so don't forget my present." Giving him a quick wink she shut the door and walked up to her room.

Steven stared back at the shut door with a vacant look on his face. He hadn't even known when Ally's birthday was before today, and saying that it was 'soon' did not help the matter. And on top of that he needed to buy a gift!
He turned and walked back down the path and onto the side-walk, and started to head home. Today was a weird day, and when coming from a man who practices magic on a regular basis, it must have been weird.
Steven walked up the stairs and into his room. Plopping down on his bed he stared at his book shelf , thinking about the magic fight he had seen earlier. He knew that he had heard of something similar, but he could remember where. Then after about ten minutes of deep thought, he got an idea. The boy, Tim, he corrected himself, had said "Card magic" after Steven had asked about the magic. The girl, Bree, had added that the magic was a mix of Eastern and Western magic. Definitely unique. And it sounded familiar to him.
He got up and went over to the bookshelf, moved the shelf itself away from the wall, and opened the safe that was hidden behind it. Peering inside, he quickly inspected his hidden cache of magical texts. He kept these books in the safe for a few reasons, one being that the books were rather old and needed a safe environment, and two being that he was unsure of his parents reactions if they found out that their son was a practicing mage.
Pulling out a few particularly old books, "Ancient Bloodlines of Old China", "Mystic Symbols", "Western Mages", and "Eastern Mages". Steven sat down on his bed and opened the first book and started to read.

"You bet. See you then." He turned off the phone and held it thoughtfully for a moment. Did he just get asked on a date? Nah, it was just to talk and she needed someone to go with. Yeah, that was it.
He started playing his game system, but after just a few minutes he discovered that he wasn't really in the mood. Instead, he flopped down on his bed, all his clothes still on, and pulled out the Card he had found that night.
It was weird. He could almost feel it. Like it was alive or something, examining him while he examined it.
He woke up with a start and glanced up at the wall clock. He had dozed off for a few minutes. Taking this as a sign to call it a night, he put the Card carefully on his nightstand along with his Key, and took off his shirt and shorts. He pulled on the thin sweat pants he usually wore to bed, and with a last long look at the Card, snapped off the light.
He thought he would fall asleep instantly, but he lay there awake for a little while, thinking about today and what it meant for the future.

"Yes, at the bottom of my backpack, under three pounds of books and video games." She said, taking out her books again. She was a night owl. She stayed up until three a.m. and slept through the morning on summer days... she'd have to wake up early to make herself look good Tim though... wait? Look good? She just needed to be presentable! She shook her head. Presentable. She tried to concentrate on her book. Hopefully Kero wouldn't tease her more about Tim. She had other things to worry about... like cards...
