He'd almost forgotten what it was like to have two rembunctious and demanding young ones in the house. Grinning and pleased with himself, Youko sank into the plush chair in the livingroom, looking over the blanket that lay in the middle of the floor and had two dozing infants on it. They'd passed out shortly after breakfast, still needing several small naps throughout the day.

Raven twitched in sleep, her tail batting across her brother's face, only to have it grabbed and shoved away by the dozing Kendall before he rolled onto his side and settled down once more. Youko crawled from the chair, laying along one side of the blanket, and let his fingers trail first across one gray-furred ear... then one of Kendall's brown ones. A lazy smile crossed his face at that, and he felt very much at peace like this... despite the fact that the two were hell on wheels when awake.

He almost dreaded their first steps. As any parent could attest, children leared to run before they could walk, and they suddenly get a whole lot harder to keep up with.

Still, this was a little slice of what heaven could be like, just watching his two angels sleep. In sleep was about the ONLY time they could be considered angelic... but he really didn't expect any less from two tiny living beings that carried half of his genes.

His eyes slipped closed as he watched them... and it was nearly a half an hour before Envy came in and found them like that. Father and children, nestled on the blanket together as the early afternoon breeze blew in from the balcony door.

Youko was content. VERY content. Nestled into the couch, watching the Olympics (There was just something about men in Speedos that got his undivided attention), and keeping an eye on Kendall and Raven.

Which was now a lot harder than it sounded.

The moment his back was turned, Raven was off and scampering towards the kitchen, where sharp fox ears picked up the sound of the fridge being pulled open. By the time he got to his feet, Youko let out a yelp and dove forward in time to keep the toddler from bringing down a full bin of eggs on her own head. "NO!! No, baby, leave those alone. Are you hungry?" At the girl's nod, he sighed, and scooped her up to put in her high chair. "Alright. Just sit there for a minute and daddy'll make you lunch. Since she was so interested int he eggs, Youko pulled out a few and some grated cheese, and set about making scrambled eggs for his daughter.

Crack eggs, put in bowl, mix up until it looks like snot... add cheese... put in pan...

"AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Youko took a moment to peel himself off of the ceiling, then realised that the shriek was coming from his son. Darting into the livingroom, he saw that it was definately coming from his son... who was currently trying to pry a tape out of the VCR with his fingers. Sighing, he walked over and hit the 'eject' button, then was greeted by a stare akin to "Oh my word, you are GOD!" from his son, who thought this was the most amazing thing he'd ever seen.

"Yep... I'll remember you looked at me that way when you're a teenager and think I'm the worst parent in the world." Chuckling, Youko padded away, knowing that the boy could manage to put a tape IN The VCR by himself. Soon, sure enough, the sounds of the opening theme to the Lion King was coming from the room.

Which set off Raven, who was very UNhappy about being stuck in the kitchen for this.

"Settle down, you can eat, then you can go watch it."

"NO!"

Youko's ears pinned back at the yell. Oh ********, they'd learned their first word. "Your mother is gonna kill me." He was met by the glare from his daughter as she squirmed her way down and out of the highchair form beneath the tray, and darted off to watch the movie with her brother.

Sighing, he just scooped the eggs into a bowl and leaned against the counter, picking at them with a fork. At least HE had lunch now... and all he could do was pray they ate dinner instead of throwing it around.

Having two toddlers running around is definately harder than I thought it would be. If one isn't into something, the other is... and I'm VERY glad suddenly that I invested in upper-locks for the balcony door. They've both become adept at unlocking the lower ones, but at least they can't reach the rest. Needless to say, I haven't had much time to write, since that actually involves being able to sit down WITHOUT jumping up again two seconds later.... I really can't wait til Karma gets home.

I love my children, but gods, I need a BREAK!

I went to the clinic yesterday, more to just see if there were any other parents around than anything. Raven and Kendall were pretty well behaved... Raven had a few issues and needed time out for yelling at one of Neith's twins. She had been playing fine with Raving, running aorund, then crashed into Winny, Elle and Bronwyn. She tried to apologize but I don't know if they heard her or not.

Kendall got to meet Rhiannon, Sayuri and David's daughter. He had a blast with her, despite a bit of angst when he thought that her tail had been forcibly removed. I guess he just had no idea that people came without tails. He played with Rhiannon's wolves, and had fun with that. I got to talk to Sayuri, Neith and Sunny for a bit. Then both twins started to doze off and we came home.

They had fun though, and I'm hoping to be able to set up a playdate with some of the other children sometime.

Dear Diary,

My apologies, first of all, for not keeping you up-to-date. I feel like an inattentive parent, but so much has been going on. Between the wedding and drama elsewhere, I've had my attention very divided, I'm afraid.

Youko must have felt the same because not too long ago, there was a knock at the door and I was greeted by a widely-grinning foxboy and our twins.

"They missed their mommy!" he says, still grinning as they latch onto either of my legs laughing.

"And this has....NOTHING at all to do with those leather straps you were bragging about finding on discount the other night and the fact Envy has a week off coming up..."

"No! NO!! Not at all!!"

Yeah right, Youko, you lie like a rug. Ah well, he's right. I've had about three weeks off, its time to get back into the swing of things. And my children have reminded me precisely what my place is by lovingly ransacking my living room as soon as their daddy left.

It took a tuna fish sandwich a bowl of of spaghetti-O's each, and threats of an early bedtime, but I managed to get the two of them playcated enough to sit in front of the television while I cleaned up their mess. I forgot just how much there was for toddlers to get into and Dave and I hadn't finished putting our wedding stuff away yet.

*sigh* I hope grass stains come out of satin dresses...

At any rate, while Kendall seemed perfectly content to spend his afternoon mesmerized by my Animaniacs tapes, Raven was having none of it. She was restless, she hadn't been in this house in awhile, and that warranted an exploring as far as she was concerned. Thankfully, I was done with cleanup by the time I saw her starting to toddle away from the couch.

I decided to humor her...as long as I was with her, how much trouble could a little foxcoon girl cause, after all? And for awhile, it was fine. While I had her by the hand, she led me from room to room while I explained what things were and what they did. Thankfully, she was fairly well-behaved and didn't try to break anything or make any further messes.

Then we got to the guest room.

The guest room, for the uninformed, are where my resident puris live, of which I currently have one doting mother and one aggressive little kitten. Krill, the aforementioned kitten, was who greeted us when Raven wobbled in, her bi-colored eyes wide with wonder at the sight of the fuzzy "toy" perched on the end of the bed.

Krill, while he seemed curious about the infants, had quickly distanced himself when he realized just how noisy two-legged babies were and hadn't had much interest since. I think having seen Raven older was a surprise to him.

At any rate, Raven clearly didn't remember Krill as the last time she'd seen him was when she was a little infant and seemed distressed by his presence. Now, however, she was more than curious about him and reached out to him, babbling happily.

I'm not sure if Krill didn't get out of the way because his reaction time was really that slow or if he was giving her the benefit of the doubt, but either way, for some reason, he didn't move when she grabbed for him.

The result wasn't pretty. Raven, being the curious little girl she is, grabbed onto either of his ears and pulled hard, irking him rather badly.

I felt like I was in the middle of some sitcom designed for people who have done horrible awful things. I have a screaming puri kitten in one ear, Raven laughing in my other and Mimi in the meantime in a near-panic trying to muscle in between us to see how badly her son was hurt.

And somewhere in the middle of all of this, Kendall toddles in, watches the chaos for a moment, and then, as politely as a toddler can muster, says that he finished his "sketti ooze" and wants to know if we can make "strewberry snortcake" for dessert.

......why me?

Eirnae Slytherin-Natenhar
This was supposed to be easy, right? Right?

"Mum, why do they squirm?" Damien asks of Eirnae as she tries to keep her own live load from escaping her hold.

She is about to answer when the tiny fox she is trying to keep from wriggling its way out of her arms suddenly calms down, eyes blinking as it stares at Damien. Well now, that has her baffled. Not baffled enough to still her feet from taking advantage of the fox's sudden cooperativeness by hurrying the pace along to Karma's place, but baffled just the same. "Because they aren't used to us, Damien," she explains despite her puzzlement, her son doing his best to keep up. "Hopefully they are better behaved for Youko and Karma's children."

Damien thinks on that, looking down at the small foxcoon still wriggling about in his arms. He almost wants to let the poor thing go, even though his common sense says that the place they are taking them to will take great care of them. At least they better, cause if they hurt them he'll be upset.

Thankfully, they had taken a ride on Firi, Eirnae's pegasus, to get most of the way to Karma's, and only had to walk a short ways till they reach the front door of where Eirnae prays is the right place. "Alright, Damien, time to put our squirming bundles of joy in their basket." She already has gently set the fox in the woven basket, amused when the tiny thing tries to climb out and is quickly repelled to the middle of the basket again by the spell cast on it. Nothing dangerous or harmful, of course, just a simple yet strong mental command of 'No!' that Calavel was kind enough to cast on the basket earlier that day.

Damien thoughtfully pets the small foxcoon before putting it down beside the fox, stepping back to watch the two huddle up together inside of the basket. "They will be alright?" he asks quietly, his tone concerned. Being with Eira so often, as well as all of the animals around the manor, has lead to a fondness for all living things for Damien. He certainly doesn't want these two to starve while waiting to be discovered...

"They have a sustaining spell that will keep them healthy and happy till they are taken from the basket, Damien," Eirnae replies, taking her son by the hand as she guides him away from the basket. "Let's get back to Firi, mm? I'm sure she can't wait for you to ride on her again!"

Diversionary tactic launched. Target not dodging. Staying on target...

"Okay!" Damien declares with a grin, gripping his mum's hand firmly as they start back to where the blue pegasus waits for their return.

Now there is a good sized woven reed basket in front of Karma's home, right in front of her front door, with two adorable animals nestled inside. Should Karma or her husband touch the basket it will promptly declare in a sing-song voice, "Greetings to you! I carry gifts intended for your little ones! The Slytherin-Natenhar family hopes that they enjoy the presence of these little rascals!"

It should be noted that each of these pets are designed to resemble Kendall and Raven as closely as possible, right down to the color of their eyes. They were magically created by Calavel for the twins, and they will not get any bigger than they already are, which is about the size of a four week old kitten.

Cyrus trudged along after his aunt, looking rather irritated by the whole situation. She was the one who'd wanted to buy all these stupid things - why wasn't she the one handing them out? He grumbled as she set a note down, nodding to him then. He sighed and set a pair of blankets on top of the note so it wouldn't blow away and turned to follow his aunt to the next home on their list.

"Mummy?"

"Hmm?" Karma asked, looking up from where Raven was cradled against her chest and napping as she idly read ahead in Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets since her daughter was no longer listening. Not Raven had understood much of it anyway, really, but she'd been paying attention. The foxcoon had to give her credit at least that far. Kendall was perched at the end of the couch, no longer watching Sesame street and and now focusing his red-and-gold eyes on her.

"Wanna go park t'day." he said hopefully.

"And I'd love to take you, little guy, but your daddy's at work right now and your father's still busy getting things in order over at his own house. I can't keep tabs on you and your sister both in a place like that, I'm sorry."

Kendall's brown vulpine ears drooped dejectedly as his face screwed up into a pout. "BOR-RING!!" he protested, giving a petulant kick of his legs and making Karma wince. Great...first Youko had taught them both "no" as their first word, now they were able to fully argue with her. Oh the joys of the terrible two's....

Sighing helplessly, she sat up, trying not to disturb Raven as she turned her head to look at the clock. Not even nine yet, this day was getting off to a great start, she thought sarcastically.

"How about I go put your sister down for a nap and you and I could make some cookies?" she offered, hoping the prospect of treats might playcate him. No go. He kicked his legs again and his freckled face grew red with the onset of a tantrum. "Or maybe we could read a book together? I'll let you pick out whatever you want." Karma amended quickly. Kendall's face drew into a frown as the first of his whimpers began. "....or--or maybe we could--"

"Wanna go ou'side!!!" he bellowed at the top of his lungs, jolting Raven awake with a squawk as she blinked owlishly, disoriented, and then hearing her brother's squalling, began to join in on the temper tantrum-throwing, despite not knowing what it was about. Twins were funny like that, Karma had found....they were empathetic to one another's moods.

At least it kept their fighting to a minimum. For instance, Raven and Kendall had gotten into a shoving match recently over who was to be the sole possessor of the Lucky Charms marshmallow they had discovered under one of the couch cushions and Kendall had succeeded in knocking his sister over backwards where she'd hit her head on the carpet and instantly begun to wail.

Kendall had only a couple of seconds to enjoy his victory and then, before even getting the cereal piece into his mouth, had joined Raven in a chorus of sobbing for no apparant reason.

Yeah, kids were funny like that...

"All right....All. RIGHT." Karma said, trying to be heard above the duet of cries. "Look...let's make a deal, okay? Okay, guys? Guys...?" Two sets of eyes focused on her hopefully. "You both sit still long enough for me to give you a bath and we can go to the main center and see if anyone is there for you to play with. Would you like that?"

She'd not been to the center in a long time but supposed it was a safer place than the park. At least there were walls there that would keep them inside...and if other parents were there, it would be more sets of eyes to help watch them and make sure they didn't make an escape.

"NO BAFF!!" Raven demanded, trying to squirm out of her mother's arms. "No baff! No baff! No BAFF!!"

"That's the deal, sorry." she said before Kendall could join his sister's chanting. "You didn't have one last night and you both smell like a couple of hippos."

Kendall, in the true fashion of toddlers, seemed to have forgotten he was trying to summon a batch of tears to go with his tantrum to make it more convincing and shrieked with laughter. He knew what hippos were...big stinky loud things that lived in the water and ate boats. He had a plastic one that went with him in the tub.

"No baff." Raven said again, quieter this time, as though now she wasn't as certain.

"BAFF!!!" Kendall crowed, wriggling off of the couch and galloping toward the bathroom with all of the grace of a stampede of overweight cows. His sister blinked at him as though he'd gone utterly insane and looked to her mother for confirmation of this fact.

"C'mon." Karma grunted, heaving herself off of the couch with Raven in her arms. "If you're good, I might even let you two use the bubblebath and forget about the time you decorated the toilet with it."

Dear Diary,

Quote:
Well, Youko's been unavailable for comment. Every time I call him he's not home, home but going to bed, home but spending some quality time with Envy, or already asleep. I guess that comes with having a new job...I'm glad he's working again, at least. Hopefully his home situation eases up.

That's really been the main reason I've not kept better correspondance with the diary. The twins keep me constantly running around and by the time I DO have a free minute to sit down and write myself a decent entry, I'd rather spend that time sleeping or curled up with a mug of cocoa and reading. Parenting is a full time job...too bad I hadn't had more time to prepare for it than I did.

Anyway, to bring you up to speed since my last entry -- No, Krill did not suffer any lasting damage from Raven yanking his ears. He and his mother agreed that he was fine by the next day, as a matter of fact. The twins are starting to pick up speech more rapidly...I think sitting them in front of Sesame Street every morning has helped severely in that regard, though I can't say its done much for their general attitudes.

My children have entered the phase known as the "terrible two's" and have set up habitat there. I can't say I enjoy it much because I don't. I love them both to death, but it makes my eye twitch when you ask them nicely to do a simple task such as...oh...I don't know...wear pants? And be greeted with "NO! I HATE YOU!"

I know they don't mean it, and I know I was worse than they were when I was little, but I guess it still hurts a little. And to think -- I have their TEENS to look forward to in the future. Oh rapture and a half...

I took them to the clinic today to touch base with the others. After embarrassing me to Kingdom Come and back in front of one of the other ladies there, Britain she said her name was, I let them go to play with the others. However, they both found it more amusing to run up to the front windows and press up against them to make faces at the passersby.

I love my children I love my children I love my children I love my children....

I figure I say it enough times and one day I'll accept it as a way of life and just...not get mad anymore. I mean, why not? Having kids is the equivalent of storming up to God's desk and turning in your Badge of Pride and your Gun of Convenience. You may as well throw out your ability to experience anger while you're at it since they take every opportunity presented to provoke it.

I keep looking back on the night they were concieved and kind of wishing I had it to do over again. Not that I wish I'd never had them...don't get me wrong, I DO love my kids. I'm honored to have them, bad days and all, but I keep wondering if maybe they would have turned out differently if it had been done the right way.

Isn't that how it happens in the romance novels? There's supposed to be a big pink canopy bed with fluffy satin pillows and soft music playing, and an ocean crashing outside or some happy horseshit like that, right? I wonder what I'm going to tell them when they're old enough to ask where they came from.

Do you really tell your children with a straight face that their reason for existance was lots of booze, David Bowie, and a very confused foxman?

I'll just give them the "mommy and daddy loved each other very very much and wanted two little angels to be delivered to them" shpiel. I don't think they'll question it until they get to grade school and the other kids start to corrupt them...and hopefully by then I'll have perfected my poker face and will be able to lie to them better about it....while in the same breath assuring them that yes, Santa is real and no, the Easter bunny does not poop jelly beans.

Oyy...I need to sleep, can you tell?

Dear Diary,

Quote:
Well, Halloween came and went without too much incident, thank god. The kids decided that they wanted to go trick-or-treating, and with Dave working, I had decided early on that it just wasn't going to happen. I can barely keep them both in check in a well-lit environment with four walls enclosing them. There's no way on God's green earth I was going to take them around a pitch-black neighborhood to voluntarily allow strangers to hand them sugar.

Fortunately, my salvation came in the form of Envy and Youko calling me and informing me that since they had a weekend off together, they would be happy to take Raven and Kendall off of my hands if I would like to get them in costume and have them ready to go by seven.

So, great...that meant having to come up with costumes on the fly. I did what any mother in my situation would do -- we went to the mall to seek out the halloween surplus store.

For those of you who are not parents, let me say this right now -- never attempt to turn your two toddlers loose in the childrens' costume aisle and actually expect them to pick out their own costumes. Between Raven knocking over a plastic cauldron of rubber rats and shrieking at the top of her lungs and Kendall managing to pull twenty "Betty Boop" costume packages down on his head, I'm amazed we didn't get kicked out.

But they got their costumes. They both ended up going as bats despite my trying to convince them that a little variety might be nice. Nope. Both had to be bats. To say otherwise was blasphemy to the ears of two-year-olds and resulted in a symphony of dischordant screeching to the ears of frazzled mommies.

Its too bad...I'd really hoped to be able to talk Raven into the princess outfit, but god forbid I have a normal daughter. I'm starting to think that curse my mom put on me when I was little and misbehaving "I'm going to laugh so hard when you have kids that act exactly the way you act" has not only taken hold, but increased itself tenfold for every time I misbehaved since.

In a nutshell, Envy and Youko took them trick-or-treating, they had a blast, they tired the poor boys out, and they now have enough sugar to power a small rocket. My first order of business (after sorting out the things they might choke on and Dave had stolen all the smarties) was to put the halloween haul out of sight and out of reach so the twins would not be inclined to devour it all in one sitting.

As of now, I'm allowing them each two pieces of candy after dinner and they seem to be content with this. At this rate, their respective bags should last them at least till Thanksgiving. Hey...almost an entire month when I don't have to worry about making/buying dessert? I'm not going to complain.

Dear Diary,

Quote:
Oh dear gods, what EVER convinced me to take those two little 'angels' out Trick or Treating?? >_<

I kept some of hte candy here, so that they would have treats for when they came over. I very quietly put it up and out of their reach (or so I THOUGHT), and was allr eady to have them over for a surprise this week. I'm off work because I'm not feeling well, and I figured Karma could actually use the break to get things done during the week without having twin air-raid sirens accompanying her.

I thought I had everything settled... until I was woken up by Envy at 6am going 'They're YOUR kids, YOU deal with them.'

The little darlings had scaled the pantry shelf. Kendall was now sitting in a pile of candy with choclate from ear to fuzzy ear... and Raven, although she was TRYING to act like she had nothing to do with it, was vibrating in place fit to make a milkshake out of a sippy cup that Envy had given her.

Nice try dear... three points for effort.

At least Kendall LIKES baths, and once I had him happily puttering his toy boats around the water, I went and got Raven a change of clothes. She's a bit neater... she only managed to chocolatize her shirt and jeans. Once she was cleaned up, I turned her loose, the candy now stowed inside the cabinet above the stove. Unless they shove kitchen chairs over, they can't get to that, and I'd hear the sound of legs scraping across the floor before they got there. Sometimes, I'm very glad I have a loft bedroom instead of a regular one.

Karma's laughing her a** off somewhere, I just KNOW it. She's already on my case for teaching them 'no'. Like I TAUGHT it to them, to begin with.

For the moment, Raven is settled in front of the TV with Sesame Street, and Kendall is finally clean, combed and in the high chair with a bowl of Cheerios.

No milk, just Cheerios. Apparently he hates it when they get soggy, he says they look like naked sketti ooze.

Memo to me... find out from Karma exactly what 'sketti ooze' is.
