Thalgarik immerged from the cool waters and dried himself. Once he was clothed, he approached the others and appeared to be in a daze.
"Sorry, mates. I must have dozed off in there. It has been a long while since I had time to relax. I could have sworn I heard something about family."

((Seriously... what did I miss? xD))

((We've been through a bit, I think it calls for a story update))

The Seven year old had followed the young fifteen year old Lain around, tagging along wherever he went, begging him to play with her and give her attention. Reina had been, for the past five years of her young life trained hard in the ways of a warrior and mage, but all of it was very taxing on her young mind.

Her father called for her, noting she was following Lain and the others too much, and missing out on her studies, as he demanded she come to him at that moment. The young Reina looked up at her father with her multicolored eyes, staring at him with sadness, but he had to be strict, he had to meld her into the person he wanted her to be.

"Da- Father, all of the people around here are boys, why am I here?" She bit her fingers, cuddling close to his knees where she wrapped her arms around him. with a sigh, he looked down to her, setting her on her bed and tried to talk to her in a calm manner.

"You're here because you are my only child, and I am getting too old to be a Knight, I need someone to take my place. True, this is no place for a little girl, but I have no other choice."

"Why did you not have a son after me? You could bring him here and I can stay at home with mother. Would you like that?" Reina sounded as if she did not want to be here, which was dissapointing for him to hear, that his daughter didn't want to continue the legacy.

"Your mother and I could not have any more children, we were only allowed to have one, that's all. You are here because I have to put all of my hope and trust in you, to carry out my name in the Knights of the Round Table." Reina wondered why he could not have a son, when everyone else had brothers and sisters. There was a pause for a moment, and the girl tugged on her father's sleeve, while looking into his eyes for an honest answer.

"Daddy, do you wish I was a boy?" Again, there was silence, and Thomas could not bare to look into her eyes, without feeling his heart sink. He stood up, tearing apart from her and pushed his gaze away from her.

"Yes," was all he was able to say, before turning to leave her room, shutting the door behind her.

The next day, Thomas ventured into her room, to see Reina, practicing her swordsmanship, her hand bloody, and her hair, cut short, strands sticking out everywhere while the rest of it lay on a pile on the floor.

~*~*~*

Reina had stirred, sitting up and reached up to touch her face, feeling her hair plastered against her cheek and lips. it was still short, she maintained it to be that way. Rubbing her face, looking around, she noticed she hadn't slept for more than an hour. Heaving a heavy sigh, she stood up and deemed, she would not be able to sleep right now, she'd keep watch with Lain until someone else woke up, and try sleeping later.

Her ears perked up at the sound of water splashing onto the grass, and she moved back, peering into the night, hoping it wasn't another spy. The sillouhette moved near the tree, and she carefully slid her dagger out, slamming it into the bark of the tree, rising up on the figure, only to find out it was Lain.

"God Lain! Don't scare me like that!" She pulled the dagger out and fell over, clenching her chest feeling her heart beat like mad. "You could have been a spy, and worse, could have snuck up on me while I was sleeping." She laughed a little, doing more of the talking, hoping that he wouldn't notice her wandering eyes before she turned the other way, crossing her arm. "If you're wondering why I am up, it's because I couldn't sleep."

(( eek we are so not at the oasis anymore. We road on to Serionia, where Lain and Reina needed some time alone because of their murdered families. An Assassin tried to kill Ryn, but of course he didn't. One tried to kill Reina buck sucked too bad to be mentioned further. A Saxon hoard invaded the Inn where Ryn and Lain were, they pretty much did a mass casualty type thing and the three escaped into the forest where Lain is taking first watch so everyone else can get some rest. (Your character is with us, you just weren't role playing rofl So your post should be in the forest with us.

The battle system was created and two more characters were introduced into the story.))

Because the couple slepped in a clearing with the horses, Lian could see them, but it would be difficult for anyone to see him. He continued to bathe as he watched Reina awaken with a start and look around, she must have heard the water and been caught off guard.

"Were you planning on cutting off my manhood?" he said playfully as she fell back into the soft grass. He finished showering and wrung his hair, waving his hand to stop the magically perpetuated flowing cascade. He was naked, standing in front of Reina, but he did not hide himself. She had seem him naked hundreds of times before, the same way he had seen her, so instead of cowering like a ten year old virgin who didn't want mommy to see his man parts, he simply picked up a fresh pair of leather pants and a cotton shirt and slipped them over his thin but chiseled frame.

"Was I too loud? Did I wake you?" He said in a hushed voice. "You know I wouldn't just wander off at let someone harm you." He reached down and brushed her cheek with the back of his hand before taking a seat beside her and looking up at the stars.

He had always been affectionate, even when they had been children, but it never went beyond an affection between two friends, to his dismay. Changing the subject, he said, " i don't think we need to worry about the assassin, he is a brave warrior, it's a shame he wastes his talents so." Turning to look at Reina he smiled, he would rather have her as company than any other person on the dieing island.

Reina laughed when he had asked the silly question, holding up the blade to her eyelevel, "I still could if I had wanted to." She winked and sat up, watching him sit beside her and leaned beside the tree to gaze at the starry sky. "I know, you'd come in there, mid shower and castrate any man who would try to harm me, as the others would probably already have defeated the men in their sleep." Reina leaned her weight on Lain, closing her eyes and felt, more at home with him, even when she was younger, she felt more comfortable in his presence, than anyone else.

"You know if I were born a man, I think my life would be a bit easier. I'd still be as strong as I am now, but I think my father would have accepted it, and me as well. Then, all I'd have to do is grow up, marry, have many more sons and pass down the family name and keep these going." She put her head down, resting it on her knees which were tucked to her chest, thinking to herself. "I'm glad you and the others accept me being a woman, and being younger than 21." She hugged his arm, giving him a playful, kind smile letting her silver eye catch the glint of the moon.

"Reina, if you were born a man, we probably wouldn't be as close as we are. And being one isn't a cake walk. Finding a woman you can love, cherish and honor, and get that in return is, not impossible but, look at me. I'm not married, I have no children, and I'm alone when it comes to those things. Men hurt and feel just as any woman but, they are expected to be strong and valiant, and emotions are thought to be a weak trait, a womans trait, and I, I don't want that in any woman I finally choose to be with, I want her to be, well, a mirror image of myself, and thats very hard to come by."

He wrapped his arm around her waist from where he was sitting and let himself become lost in thought. In all honesty, Reina was his ideal, but he knew he couldn't have her, it wouldn't be right, and it would more than likely taint whatever they had now. But that was one of the reasons Lain was alone, without a partner, because he compared every woman to the one at his right, and they came up short every time. He didn't care that she was younger, he didn't care that she was a half-breed either.

"Sometimes...sometimes I think it would be easier, to not be a knight at all." He had never spoken those words to anyone as long as he had lived, and he was surprised that the words flowed so freely from his lips that he couldn't help but turn to face her to see her reaction. At times he loved being a night. But on those days when he had to sleep under the stars, and know that once he returned it would be just the same, with no one to love him, it killed him inside. But he could hope, and that was what kept him on the path of a noble.

((When people are away, I just role-play with them in the background. So like when me and Ryn were fighting Saxons in the Inn, it was presumed that you were there as well.))

Thalgarik was sitting on the ground, admiring a butterfly, while secretly listening to Lain and Reina's conversation. It... hurt. Too long had he desired beauty. Too long had he desired love. However, a monster such as he received no such pleasures, and he knew that. It hurt.

He found it ironic that he, a half-giant, could endure the worst pains of all, but fell before his desire in defeat. War was all he knew. How could anyone love such a wartorn beast?

Thalgarik could not bring himself to cry. He believed his father had beaten most of the tears out of him as a child and relinquished them all when he killed his mother. He watched the butterfly go and did not make a sound.

((Pretty much. It's not easy being a half-giant. Common people hate them because of their brutish ways. It's like being a half-elf, never truly accepted by the elves or humans. With giants and humans, it's worse. Both races are violent. He has never known love or affection, only war and suffering. He is a tragic hero, in a sense.))

((Thats sad. so we have two opposites. Reina is a half breed and loved by many while Thal has never felt like he belonged anywhere and was never loved?))
