Message: December 21st, 2012; somewhere in the late afternoon.

It's a day like any other winter day in Gaia. A bleak sun is shining, everywhere people are playing in the snow or caroling... The Creeper Castle doesn't even seem as creepy as usual now that it's been filled with so much holiday cheer; and it certainly doesn't look like those people predicting the end of the world will turn out to be right. Feeling all cheery and full of Christmas spirit, you decide to walk to Barton, the nearest town, to get some presents for your friends.

After a good while and several gifts later, you take a look at the sky and see dark clouds gathering everywhere. The street lights flicker on as the evening slowly falls over all of Gaia, the sky promising a very cold night.
Shivering a little from the sudden cold, you huddle up in your coat, figuring you should return to the Castle before a snowstorm breaks loose.
As you walk with a steady pace through the thick blanket of snow, all of a sudden a sound far off in the distance gets your attention. It sounds like an explosion... And another one, and another one...
Then, everything is silent again.... Too silent. No more voices of people having fun in the snow, no birds chattering... Nothing.
The silence lasts for a few seconds, which seem to be an eternity... Then all hell breaks loose. You hear the emergency alarms going off in the distance, not only from Barton where you just came from but also from the direction of the Creeper Castle... You wonder what's going on, but are not about to stay around to find out; quickly you run to the nearest hide-out, an underground system of caves.

Inside, you take a moment to catch your breath; it doesn't take long before you realize several of your friends are also hiding there. None of you has even the slightest idea what's going on, but you have a feeling that whatever it is, it won't end well....
The explosions you heard before are getting louder and louder as the ground starts trembling, as if they are getting closer... Then, for a moment, everything goes quiet again.
You hold your breath, hoping that it might be over....

One giant, ear-deafening explosion later, and you're left trembling on your feet, your heart pounding in your chest but thankful to be alive. Looking at your friends, they seem to be in much the same condition, but it seems like you all survived at least.
Carefully, you all make your way to the exit, hoping it wasn't blocked.... The sight in front of your eyes as you leave the caves causes you to hold your breath in shock for a moment.
What was a beautiful winter-wonderland just mere minutes ago, is now covered in a thick layer of dark fog... Or is it smoke? As it clears up a little, you look in the distance at the direction Barton is in... But instead of seeing the familiar skyline with its cute little clock tower, you only see more smoke. Quickly, you and your friends start running back towards the Castle, passing by piles of rubble in the dirty snow on the way; you can't even see anymore what they used to be.
As you arrive at your beloved hide-out, once again your breath falters at the sight... It appears to be still standing, but all the windows have been blown to pieces and the whole building looks unstable; the ground surrounding it covered in ashes. It's an unusual sight, seeing your home which is usually so full of life, abandoned and worn-down like a ghost building.
As something wet drips in your neck, you look up and see it starting to snow again; instinctively you pull your coat tighter around you as you look at your friends, unsure what to do now.

&�� Split up to cover a bigger area in hopes you find something to help you survive?
