"Duke Yang. He's a vampire. Their emissary to the Council. He's nearby, I can recognize his presence because of my necromancy. I did his wife a couple years ago. I'm not familiar with differences in vampire cultures, but I suspect he'll probably kill me if he encounters me." Takeshi's apparent nervousness became evident. "I'm trying to tell where he is, but he's good at concealing himself and I'm just an amateur. Oh, and Duke Yang is strong enough that he can walk in sunlight," he added with a grimace.

((Anyone who thinks this came out of nowhere, think again - Takeshi's bio states he can understand Mandarin Chinese for a reason. biggrin ))

((I caught that one when you described the Duchess. I was reading over the profiles too, and it gave me some fresh ideas.))

Joe nodded slowly. "That sounds...ouch. Tell you what, I need someone to come with me for something, and I don't want to exhaust Siber, since he was actually with me against Helmsborough." A barbed comment to jab Takeshi into any response. "Come with me?"

Takeshi looked at Joe strangely.

"Where and why?"

((WHOOHOO!!! I beat X-com: UFO Defense [AKA X-com: Enemy Unknown] for the first time just now.

With a retardly powerful group of 14 psychics who, together, could mind control everything I saw in a given turn, and 3 tanks who would spot for them.))

((Congratulations! Whats X-com?))

Siber gave Joe's back a level glare as he walked off.

"Yeah, can I get a reuben to go and a cup of tomato-basil to stay?" he asked the guy at the counter. Counter-guy raised his eyebrow, but Siber flashed him an innocent grin and waited for a price.
"You wanna drink with that?"
"Gimme a strawberry smoothie and cup of decaf."
"Ten twenty-three."
Siber handed over money, got change, and waited at the bar.

He took the food, sprayed mustard in the soup, and poured salt in the coffee while Joe, facing away, was in conversation with Takeshi. Someone nearby gave him a questioning look, so he flashed another grin.

He brought the food over to Joe and mentioned walking around some more. "Don't worry about paying me back," he said before nodding at Takeshi. "How's it going?" he asked rhetorically before waving a goodbye with two fingers and taking his meal out of the diner.

Siber saw Acid and Frost outside. Or at least, that's what he would guess from their hair. Frost was carrying a briefcase. It looked like the rest of the MIBs/WIBs were gone, but Siber doubted that was really the case.

((X-com is a game I've owned for years, but only revisiting it now (after having last played it in like 6th grade( do I have the understanding, patience, and will to actually plan a little. And to exploit overpowered-but-legitimate weapons.))

((Sorry for the slow response and ignoring of messages. I'm on a pressed schedule - more or less. Really there's nothing to do that absolutely requires my attention, but I'm not exactly getting a lot of time to post for the moment. Oh, that and from Thursday to Saturday I was in Yosemite, and could not post but once because my sister was kind enough to let me piggy-back off of the internet she bought. Anywhoo, I'll probably get a chance to post daily if not more now, so I'm okay.))

Paul looked down. Glasses. He reached down, examining them, trying to determine if they were going to harm him. After deciding that it seemed quite dubious, he removed his own and pulled the other pair on. Next he took a few steps back, looking straight up to where the thing had been, and saw...

... Thermal imaging of what appeared to be a 20-foot tall vaguely insectoid something attached to the side of a building. It crawled along the side of the building and stood beside him.

"Hello." The voice came, this time, from the being in front of him. "I am Tartarus of cyNet3."

Paul stared for a second, then, unable to resist the temptation, raised his hand to his head level, then split his middle and ring fingers - the Vulcan greeting sign. "Paul Morrow. I suppose I'm with the Hunters, if you could give a care about that." He stared at the giant... spider? Scorpion? Ninja grasshopper? It was hard to say. Either way, it was dang awesome. Even cooler than BigDog. Just the fact that it was of something called "cyNet3" proved something amazing, like perhaps there were more.

"Hello, Paul. Yes, we already knew your identity, in fact. I'm here as an agent of our Council representative, Daedalus," the thing replied. It moved towards an alley. "Follow. We have a proposition for you."

Paul raised an eyebrow. Proposition? It could be good, it could be bad, or it could be absolutely neither. Two out of three said it was alright, so he decided to stick with it, following the machine down the alley. He checked his watch first. It had been perhaps two minutes since he had last spoken to Siber, so he figured he was in the clear. As an afterthought, though, he poured some magic into the penny, made it sticky, and pushed it against the underside of his jaw, right in the middle, leaving it more or less concealed to casual observers. Robots, he figured, would notice it straight off, but since they weren't trying to kill him yet, he hoped it wouldn't make a difference.

Siber saw the agents standing there and approached them. "Say... I though you guys had somewhere urgent to go. What are you doing still here?"
Keldan reminded him.

Druids djinni and sages had sounded pretty entertaining, but they apparently were up to something that didn't involve Siber. Maybe.

Without relaxing her pose in the slightest she rolled her eyes to look at the decidedly harmless looking creature beside her. Ash immediately pulled behind the wall in her mind and she couldn't hear him anymore. As Legion's own contact broke with her she turned her face to the woman at her side, irritated at the interuption, to look down at the petite figure with a raised eyebrow. The glaciers were back in her eyes, lips set in a thin frown.

Agrotera leaned more comfortably against the wall, bending one leg to rest her foot on the box she sat on and looping her left arm over the knee, then resting her right hand on the back of her neck casually.

"Who are you, dear, and why should I give a damn?"
PostPosted: Wed Jul 23, 2008 5:10 pm

"You may call me Duchess. I'm here on behalf of Duke Yang. The vampire courts and the beastmen are concerned for the... well-being of Legion," Duchess Yang informed Agrotera. Upon seeing Agrotera's skepticism at the word 'concerned,' she smiled, baring her teeth.

--

"It only required the attention of some of us at this time. A minor event," Frost explained. "We have little time. We've been instructed to give you this." He set the briefcase on the ground. With perfect synchronization, they turned and walked away.

"Wonder what that is?" a hippie with dreadlocks and a tie-dyed shirt commented from beside him. A lizard sat on his shoulder and several pigeons occupied the space around him.

--

What appeared to be a man in a trench coat followed Paul into the alley.

"You may remove the glasses," it stated in a perfectly human-sounding voice. Paul did so, and saw that the 'man' had metal skin and glowing red eyes. "This is our proposition. We have matériel you may find useful in eliminating Subject 317, Helmsborough, Avatar of Subject 318, Abaddon. Much of it will be of use other times, as well. In return, you will owe cyNet3 three services, to be determined by us. You may choose without coercion which three services will be carried out. Do you find this acceptable?"

"Well..." Paul replied, slowly and dubiously. Three services? What kind of services? He wasn't sure, but it also depended upon another particular condition of the deal... "What particular materials do you refer to? Weapons? If so, of what sort?" Paul also spent the time considering the robot. Was this thing/man armed? If so, how, and if not, how exactly did it fight? Obviously its deal was one of symbiosis, and lacked aggression, but still, if it came to it, he wanted to know how to fight the thing...
