Callista merged her mind with his and felt all the emotions that he felt. She didn't know what to say to make him feel better. The only thing that she could think of to comfort him was a small nuzzle on his neck.

Part of him wanted to scramble away from her, afraid the vampire might seize any opportunity to take him and make him hurt her...the other part wanted only to stay with her and nothing else. This part was still unfamiliar to him, but it was a strong sense, almost as strong as his first impulse to protected her when the vampire attacked.

Callista smiled shyly. You're right. I couldn't stay away from you, even if you put up safeguards to keep me out. I don't plan on leaving you, ever. She leaned her head against his shoulder. You're my best friend

Callista shook her head. "I wouldn't have it any other way. I like how things are now. Different curcumstances would have produced a different relationship between us. I suppose I would like the other relationship just as much, but I think I'll stick with this one."
