You know, I must have subconsciously realized this "all people are assholes once you get to know them" thing years ago. Explains why I don't really have any really good friends. You know, a "best friend"; not since like, junior high. Here I thought it was because I was anti-social, and it turns out its just that all people are assholes and my subconscious knew it. cool

...

But you know, not ALL people are assholes. I know two people who aren't assholes, and I know them (and, of course, I'd like to think I'm not an a*****e, but everyone likes to think that) My faith in humanity is restored.

It's the generations. I'm finding that younger generations are more corrupted than, say, someone born in the 80s or before. Therefore, more children are becoming corrupted younger and developing personality problems that will turn them into assholes by grade 5.

*Shakes head* I'm in complete disagreement with that argument, that's like saying everything and everybody was better "in the good old days" but honestly everything has their own level degradation and while it's true that societal taboos will break down as time progresses this "omg look at the moral declination of our youth!" has existed forever. And while it may be more likely for a younger person to be "corrupted" (I wonder at the ambigious meaning of this....) that's no excuse for somebody to grow up into an "a*****e", they have the ability to think and decide and filter the things they see and watch. Human beings are the constant; media, the variable. Therefore I don't neccesarily agree that there are an increasing number of "assholes" just an ever constant number of them. Now maybe if we committed genocide we might be able to decrease the number.... ninja

Kinda far from what I was saying. I was simply stating that there's more corruption now with parenting which passes onto the children these days than what's been the majority some years prior. Kids are having kids, sex is becoming less taboo whereas years prior sex was more taboo ( though still open in the public with media) and so on.

Yes it's the person's choice to grow up to be a flaming a*****e, but it's the person's environment that shapes them. Not always their choices. I could choose to be a royal pain, but with my up-bringing, I would know it was wrong and probably not get very far. Unlike a child who grows up surrounded by the dirtier parts of life or just parents who could care less.

I'm not a psychologist. *shrug*

o_o Ohmy.

Look what happens when I go away for a while xd

Moocat: lol Wtf?! rofl

RDS: gonk I agree. People constantly say, "AAAUGH, OUR SOCIETY IS ON THE VERGE OF RUININATIOOON!" But, then again, what makes this particular time-period different than any else? If you look through history, aren't the "adults" in society nearly always saying something of blasphemy of the youths? I think it's just natural. This particular decade/century really isn't any worse than the others. Or, when people go, " scream OMG, INTARNUT R EVIL!1!1! PEEEPULE GET HURT N KILED ON IT OH NOES!!1!1one!1" ... neutral People get hurt and killed and stalked and raped walking through central park. And have we closed that yet? It's bound to happen. But you have to take the good with the bad, really.

And yeah, I sort of have the same thing with the disposition. xd Hell, I still vouche for Chris, and even Breeyo on occasions as to their good character. I really think that, deep-down inside, pretty much everyone's an a*****e, but, how much other people chose to dwell on it is their own choice. razz

Utakan: And, yeah, I would suppose though, this whole thing would be a nature vs nurture sort of thing. Personally, yes, I do think that one's upbringings has a lot to do with the way they're raised, but... think of it this way. Yes, the "youngins" ( xd ) of this particular decadee are accused of being the most corrupted, but... in perspective, we aren't, really. Think about it this way; in certain areas of Russia "way back when," it was complete and utter blasphemy to marry against the wishes of a matchmaker, or without a matchmaker. And it wasn't just Russia. Arranged matches. But... every-so-often, someone, somewhere, would go against the grain of society, against all of the morals impressed upon them since birth, and marry outside of their religion/ethnicity/whatever. Back then, they would be viewed as uncontrollable rebels, and be disowned. Today, we don't really arrange matches anymore, so it isn't a big deal, but... do you get what I'm saying? I think it's all relative to each society's current standards on what makes a "corrupted" youth. 3nodding

Alexis: gonk ******** SUCKS. heart I'm so sorry. <3<3<3 I don't know what to tell you. gonk I guess people just drift apart with time. gonk I can relate to the we-were-once-best-friends-but-now-I-want-to-disembowl-you-please sort of thing. And I can attest that it really, really sucks. gonk I am so sorry. Words cannot express. heart Just... hang in there. heart 3nodding

On a good, personal note, however, I had the best weekend vacation ever, and got my first kiss. razz Woo-woo!

Yeah. Seems like we've been in several similar situations, Youko. It really does suck. And thanks for your support. You guys here keep me sane. I think I'd be out...rampaging or something otherwise.

And congratulations on your first kiss. Mine didn't go too well. Like, he had no idea how to kiss. And then the guy revealed to me that he was gay. I kind of...avoided relationships since then. Maybe one of the reasons I'm so picky about guys now.

And about this whole societey being damned thing.... I dunno. I see how it seems that we're on a downward spiral, but it also seems to be a very slow downward spiral. Like, how was the stuff that was going on in the 80s so much better than what's happening today. Now, I do notice an increase in overly leniant parents ("You made my kid stand in the corner for hitting his classmate! I'm going to sue you!") Which could cause kids to have more of a "special" mentality, as my mom calls it. That they feel entitled to do whatever they want, whenever they want, causing problems in relationships, such as at work when they're adults, which causes problems in the company, and when they have kids their kids will be slightly worse than them, but as I see it, it's a very slow moving decline.

But I do agree that this whole thing is seriously blown out of proportion by parents who forget what it was like to be a teenager and think that the youth of their kids' generation is so much more corrupt than their own. Hey, my mom's generation started the whole sex, drugs and rock-'n'-roll obession with youth that they're now complaining about. And all the hippies and whatnot of her time are suddenly the ultra-conservatives who are all pro-life and all that bullshit. Riiight. Like they are justified in complaining about us.

However, there has been a steady decrease in the quality of schooling kids recieve over time. It started out wher most people weren't being educated, then everybody wanted to prepare their children for the future, and now the intelligence rate seems to be declining again. Like, see how many people out there have no idea how to spell or use grammar. How many people write these crazy, unintelligable sentences. And how they all were supposed to have gotten an education. Alright, maybe I'm noticing this more because of the internet...but it's still slipping out into mainstream societey. Like, I read this newspaper article once about the increased usage of the non-capatalized "I" as in, "i like my car". And not just on the internet, but in signs and on TV and the like. And this just really makes me sick. I mean, come on. Has education really fallen so low as to get people to say "******** correct grammar, I'm doin' it my way!"? It's insane.

I'm not saying there aren't still smart people out there (this thread is a prime example of a place where smart people reside) but it seems that it is now basically what a lot of the internet population does by default. And to see it coming outside the internet? I hate that trend.

And about the rapists and stalkers and s**t on the internet...I used to be freaked out by them too. And my mom was all like "HOMYGAWD, NO PHOTOS OR SOMEBODY WILL RAPE YOU!" And one day it came to me that if I didn't agree to meet anyone off the internet or do anything stupid of the like, I wouldn't be raped! Same for if a stranger asks you to get in his car. I mean, you have to be pretty stupid to do either of those, don't you? Thing is, children are always caught and molested and kidnapped by people who saw them in everyday life. It's just that the internet thing is such a huge deal because it's new. People have heard of child molesters on the street for a long time ("Now what do you do if somebody offers to buy you candy if you go with them?") but the internet is (comparatively) new and scary to a lot of parents because they don't know what goes on on it. So they're like "OMG INTERNET+KIDS=BAD" without really thinking about what's going on or teaching their children to say no to people who ask to meet them somewhere. Really, this stuff could be prevented ery simply, but we have to get it all over the news and freak out even more parents simply because a small group of people is afraid of the internet.

Really quite pointless, no?

Aww, Youko, thats cute <3

While it is true that in every generation the parents complain abouut the moral degradation of their kids generation, think about this: this is the first generation growing up without getting smacked around. When I was a kid (born in the 80s baby) I ******** up, I got a spanking. None of this "time out" s**t; what kind of punishment is it to be forced to sit in your room and play video games/read comics all day? Today, kids get pampered; you can't even put your kid in time out without some over-the-top bleeding heart calling you a child abuser and blaming your kid's subsequent bad behavior on everything from your parenting to video games to McDonalds as if a child is just an empty vessel that knows no evil but just does what it sees. Whats wrong is that parents of today's generation don't want to take care of their kids. They want all the ups of parenthood and someone else to take care of the downs, so they drop their kid off at school as soon as possible and expect the teachers to raise their kid into a decent person--without kitting them, of course. And they think they can make up for their lack of parenting by just buying their kid whatever they want and refusing to say "no". How many times have you gone to a movie theatre, for instance, and seen that kid with his mom at the concession stand; mom orders a popcorn and soda and junior points tot he candy case and says
"mom, I want that!"
"No" says mom
*kid throws a fit*
*mom buys candy*
and I'd fininsh this, but I'm about to be late for work.

xd no, no I haven't had the "first kiss" yet either. Actually our AP English teacher rather emberassingly asked our class who HADN'T had their first kiss and only three of us raised our hands sweatdrop , coincidentally it was me and both of my best friends (one of them a guy heart ). It was actually somewhat despairing to know that some of the people I go to school with had (as our English teacher pressed further...) been intamently making out since the 5th grade O.o

xD This boy who went to elementary with me makes out with his girlfriend at his locker.

Thankfully, I am upstairs while he's downstairs.

All my friends, I don't think, have been kissed.

We're also young, though.

Well... I'm older by a year than all of them, though. xP
