Dara saw everyone else get up and start to leave, so her light nudging of Eric quickly turned into her basically shoving him out of the booth. She made sure though, that he didn't fall on his butt. She hurriedly got out of the booth and steadied him with her hand on his arm. Grabbing Eric's hand, she followed after the others to the new and improved mansion.

"Can I get a cup of French roast?" Yata waited by the counter as the barista fixed his drink. He was clad in formal attire, meaning grey slacks and vest over a light colored dress shirt, with a black tie around his neck. His black leather oxford shoes made a series of light tapping noises against the tiles on the floor as he stepped away from the counter and took his seat in a booth. Whenever he sat down, Yata added two sugars and a drizzle of cream to his cup for flavor. He couldn't stand the taste of straight black coffee. Too bland.

The red haired meister took a sip from his mug and made a slight cooing sound. There's the pick-me-up he needed. He's been up late these last few nights, and coffee was his way to stay awake during the day. 'God, I'm getting so old,' Yata thought. 'Grandpa drank coffee all day too.' He pulled his phone out of his pocket and began scrolling through news feeds on the screen. He had a few places he needed to go today and meetings to attend, but those can wait. Right now, Yata wanted to enjoy his joe in peace.

(Just gonna lob an NPC at you, if that's okay ^.^)

Normally the shop had at least someone in it that wasn't strictly speaking human. While we might set aside whether a meister counted on one side or the other of this very blurred line, the fact remained that, in the calm waters of mid-morning the Three-Eyed Crow would not be the only noticeably exceptional being caffeinating that day.

Opposite him, at the sugar and topping stand, stood a girl who seemed to be the sole explorer of her own little world; in the way one might envision a ghost travelling through two planes of reality at once--with the obvious wondering of how might their journey, their perception, be different on 'the other side,' and for that matter to what extent her awareness reached regarding such a dichotomous existence...--mixing things into a faceless cup and obviously-possibly-probably having some deep internal conversation--just the type of reflection one might compare to the moon when seen on a still-smiling face like hers. Yes, she might not have been 'all-there,' because in the instant she turned to leave the station, at that critical moment when her face and soft smile might have been revealed in full to the meister or anyone else watching, she was bumped--innocently, serendipitously, almost imperceptibly--by some faceless 'normal' citizen of Death City. In that instant, as she cooed and breathed a reflexive apology so low that it might tickle the ears of the wolf or fox-kin out on the street, that something rather curious happened.

Like the eclipse, its profundity and mystery was in its fleetingness. For just a fraction of a second, the soul of the girl was rid of its coating, so to speak--or else, perhaps better, it was able to shine properly magnified by the filtering lens of the other's soul as he crossed over in front of the lunescent girl; there came a flash of light, a corona, that was not per se as bright as the powerful weapons and technicians of the academy, but... different. So different, in fact, that it would fail to register in any member of variety of soul the Wavelength Meister had encountered in his already storied practice of the art of soul perception. This was a comet in the night, now, leaving a trail of memory over life; it slipped away with such blinking rapidity before the girl was finished bowing to her interceptor; her dark-side-of-the-soul tucked behind that glowing resting smile as she shrugged and dabbed but did not wipe at her newly acquired tea pre-stain in front of the dressing station.

The Wavelength Meister's red hair drifted listlessly with the slight tilt of his head as he took another gulp of his coffee. He might be in need of a refill soon, but that was dependent on how soon the caffeine from his first cup kicks in. "Hopefully Jerry is in a good mood today," Yata thought to himself, running various mental simulations of how the meeting with his so-called landlord would go later. Yata wanted to take out a couple of walls in his house to make it easier to traverse, but before he did anything, he wanted to run it by the person who sold the house to his parents. He had a lot of respect for Jerry, so, even if it was the Three-Legged Crow's house, he didn't want to make any changes without consulting the old man.

Yata's journey deeper into his thoughts was broken as a disturbingly unfamiliar presence appeared within the coffee shop. It was something he had never felt before. The one thing he was sure of was that it didn't feel human. As quickly as it has appeared, the presence vanished. Yata closed his eyes and felt out with his wavelength, trying to get an idea of who -- or what -- was in the shop. Nothing that raised any alarms. Flicking his red hair from his face, and scanning the shop with his eyes rather than his soul, his focus shifted from the unfamiliar soul to a girl standing not too far away who was wiping spilled tea from her clothes. Downing the rest of his coffee and grabbing a few napkins, Yata stood and made his way over to where she stood.

"Here, you look like you could use some more of these," he said, extending his handful of napkins to her, his mug dangling loosely in his other hand.

"Oh?" What was a blank look became a warm and conditioned smile--totally forgetting the dispenser of napkins beside her, the spacey girl took what was offered her by a rather sharp-looking young man. "Thank you..." And back to work it was. So long was that fleeting eye contact that the meister could sense nothing behind her words but a general distance. She indeed did not seem to be here but orbiting a distant star, perhaps occupying this space as a remnant of a past longing to be forgotten. Then again...

"I'm such a clutz," she laughed into her collar, coming up from that dive into the stained depths to finally hold the red-headed man's gaze. "I don't think I've ever seen you around. Breanna Martin." She extended a hand, looking quite pleased to make the other's acquaintance. Upon contact a coldness could be felt for the smallest of instants before it vanished into memory.

Yata watched as Breanna busily wiped at the stain, briefly noting that she seemed distant. He pondered why she would seem so detached from the world around her, but brushed the thought off, attributing her distance to his being a stranger or a personality trait of hers. He didn't want to jump directly to any conclusions, seeing as he had never met her before. Still, the question of where she was pulled at the back of his mind. The Wavelength Meister shook his head.

"It's just a little spill, that doesn't make you a clutz," Yata spoke kindly. "Yata Garasu. I don't think I've seen you either. It's a pleasure to meet you!" He smiled warmly as he shook her hand, even though a light chill ran up his spine when he did. "Are you a student at the academy?"

"Hm?" --she would, in fact be known for that monosyllabic little stab around her circles-- "Oh, no, not at all," she said with some confidence. Truthfully, the girl loved to share this part with new people. "I'm just an assistant at one of the firms in town. Lot of paperwork, even more benefits--our vacations are phenomenal!" And just as that beaming appeared it was fazed out by a puzzlement of equal intensity. You see, all the world, even when she reacted to such mundaneness as a matter of habit in intelligence, was a mysterious oyster bed in feeling: "--why? Is that what you are?" She gestured to his suit. "Oh, but you look much too fancy to be one of Death's soldiers," she giggled.

Yata's lips curled up on one side, turning into a slight smirk. "It sounds like you enjoy what you do." He looked down and adjusted his tie, trying to get it straight. The Wavelength Meister pouted slightly. As much as he tried, he could never get a tie to be completely straight. It always veered off to one side or the other, even if it wasn't by much. Yata wasn't used to wearing suits. He only dressed this nice on special occasions or for meetings. He normally dressed fairly casual. Sighing under his breath, he scratched his head and let the smirk return to his face.

Yata's shoulders bobbed up and down in a shrug as an immediate response to her question. "No, I'm not a student. Not anymore at least," came his verbal reply, laced with a hint of confusion. He couldn't tell if she was a fan of Lord Death or not. I just had a few things to do today, and I wanted to look nice while I did them. Anyway, what all do you do at the firm?" Yata stuck his hands in his pockets and shifted his weight, watching to see if that same excitement returned to her eyes when the subject shifted back to her work.

"Oh? So mysterious!" Chirped the girl with a cooing tone. Her smile didn't have time to fade as the man shifted back to her favorite topic.

"Well, for one," she said, leaning in to fix Yata's tie. Her fingers worked with a deftness not seen before. "--I make sure everybody is meeting ready, whatever that might entail. Anything else is just an added little flavoring to my day."

"We like to make people better at what they do," she said confidently, fishing out a card and slipping it to Yata. "Come by after you're done if you want to find out about us." She gave a quick bow and moved to leave with that ethereal smile undisturbed. "It was nice to meet you, Mr. Garasu."

"DCSE:Bringing you everything~" read the card, with directions on the back. If the meister asked anyone to interpret them, they would see nothing but blank, laminated cardstock. Breanna herself was enjoying the back seat of a grey sedan outside, diving into a sea of screens as the car pulled away.

Yata watched as Breanna fixed his tie, wondering how she got it to stay as straight as she had, but refrained from asking in lieu of seeming like a novice in the professional dressing industry. He listened as she explained what she did, and gave a vague explanation to what her firm does. 'Make people better at what they do?' His mental inquiry was met with a card in his hand, with directions to what he believed to be her place of business. He gave a quick wave as she drove off, unsure of whether she noticed or not, and turned to place his mug on the counter. After slipping the card into his pocket, Yata set out to conduct his business, intent to finish up early.

Granted the place seemed to be holding some sort of remodeling, getting new menus, chairs, and paint. Deathbucks was just as popular as always.
The soothing mood around the cafe would help ease the most troubled soul. The scent of coffee, the soft music in the background. Even someone as hasty
and stressed like Zoey could find peace in places as such.
Sitting by the window, she contemplated the exterior world, mindlessly keeping the flow of people on and off. Next to her, a cup of coffee which steamed its delicious content
She had been facing those nightmares again. Keeping her from sleeping. Yet here, she found herself at peace.
"Why don't they have dorms here? ... could use one right now."
The aggravated sigh of the pink haired girl would follow shortly after. The scent of her favorite coffee, a cappuccino with caramel and Irish cream, being her only comfort.

Aside from the bustle of the city, rendered silent by the window, there was nothing much else to report. It was a day like any other, a day Zoey might relish if she could get out of her own head a bit. Caffeine does tend to help with that, but what is coffee, really, but the catalyst of conversation?

On the other side of town, a face familiar to those who ran the circuit of missions at the DMA--those who frequented the cork-board near the entrance--was leaving the steps of the school. The hour was something bright, blasting the whole city with sun and headaches for those not properly hydrated. Ask anyone around, and they'd tell you she was kind, well-mannered, not the most standout talent they'd ever seen but certainly a hard worker, and a giver of great advise--even when she herself didn't know what to do. Her skin, never seeming to absorb the rays, not showing an ounce of melanin, even in her time in the Sahara on her latest mission, but instead reflecting a kind of glow that a few crushes--as she was entitled to have--compared to the moon, or to a brilliantly-cut gem...

One of the busy faces, one of those the dreadfully tired witch hadn't noticed, was this girl. She needed caffeine just like anyone else. Another dinging into the café, and soon enough the crowded place was just that much more jammed.

Footsteps approached and stopped near Zoey's seat. "Um..." A small voice piped up. "Excuse me... Is anyone sitting here?" A quick glance would confirm that people seemed to be sitting everywhere else... "Do you mind if I sit down?"

Usually the short fused girl would send anyone rudely away as her custom dictated, yet the familiar face that greeted her along with the soothing mood the cafe gave of made her refrain from doing so.
"Um... sure. Help yourself."
Why did she looked so familiar? where had she met her before? The more she wished to know her head would try to spin, why she stopped trying a few seconds later and decided to roll with it.
"Weather seems to be treating you gently this time.."

"Thanks!" said the familiar face as she took a seat across from Zoey. "And you're right, but I'm afraid it's not about luck after all. My ability is to reflect most energies--guess that means UV rays as well..." she looked at her porcelain wrist for a second, but seemed to shrug it off pretty easily. She had a filter cup in front of her, liking with tea, but who could say--even her choice in drink was a mystery!

"Anyway, how's your semester been?" She wasn't the type to keep things to herself--not wanting to be the center of attention. So, she shifted things back to Zoey, who she just knew had some things to say.
