"Everyone is," Lin murmured thinking back on today.
It was amazing how much had changed not only with the people, but with the people they knew personally.
"Elros is a lot more open than he use to be, even Aerin and Caranthir are.

"I never really knew Elros before," Earendil commented, "so I can't really say anything about him ... but I did notice that Aerin and Caranthir have both changed. Aerin almost seems like a whole different person now. I don't think I ever saw her smile on the ranch ... but now she seems like she's all smiles."
And Caranthir, while he still had his goofy smile, was quieter, more serious, though just as friendly as ever.

When Lin thought about it, it was true. Aerin was much happier than she had been previously, as far Caranthir well it had always been difficult to put one's finger on Caranthir to be honest.
"I had been told many times growing up that Elros was quite unreadable, he didn't have much expression, not that I noticed. He seemed perfectly normal to me growing up, but apparently I was the few exceptions to this."

"You were also a child," Earendil chuckled, squeezing her hand. "You got to see the lighter side of everyone. Or at least, almost everyone."
Aerin of course was no different for Lin than she was for anyone else, from what he understood.
"That, and you seem to have had that effect on people," he added with a grin.

"Me?" Lin looked at him bemused.
She couldn't imagine having that much effect on anyone. It wasn't like she was anything special in fact she kind of imagined she was a bit annoying as a kid.
"All I did was run around unsupervised and asked a lot of questions... and stalked people."

Earendil laughed. "Exactly. As a child, you were so innocent and so stubborn that people couldn't help but open up to you - even my father! And you know what he was like."

That made her giggle, because she knew what Ruel had been like. Even though he had been a bit stiff the last time they were there.
"Yes, yes I know. Ulrich found it funny when he found out, but he finds a lot of things funny."
Even her Dad was amused but her Dad didn't like Ruel all that much.

Earendil smiled faintly. "Yes ... he does. Still, I'm not sure my father is a laughing matter. He is my father, and I do respect him ... most of the time ... but sometimes I just can't help but wonder about him ..."
He gazed down at Lin tenderly. "And sometimes I just can't listen to a word he says."

It occurred to Lin that if Elros knew, if everyone else knew then it would be logical to assume that Ruel knew. Considering this had been going on for a long time, it meant that he was actually good about it.
Or she was missing something terribly.
She looked up and smiled, "He knew too didn't he?"

Earendil smiled back sheepishly. "Yes. And of course, I don't have to tell you that he didn't approve."
He lifted Lin's hand to his mouth and kissed her knuckles lightly. "Not that I would ever listen to him about that."

He must have hid his disapproval very well considering Lin didn't have an inkling of it until she and Earendil finally began courting each other. She was pretty sure his cold attitude was a recent thing.
"Of course not," Lin smiled, "He'll get use to it."
It might take a while but she was sure he would eventually.

He kissed her on the top of her head. "I hope."

She smiled even as she was turning pink while doing so. There were so many good fuzzy feelings in all of this.
"I hope so too...."
Ruel would just have to live with it.

Earendil just smiled and kept holding Lin close. There was so much more that he longed to be able to say, but he wasn't certain if he should. He didn't want to rush her, or make her feel pressured, or take liberties, make assumptions ...
"So," he murmured softly, deciding against the line of conversation he really wanted to follow, "any ideas for what you might do with Miyuki while I'm working with Aerin tomorrow?"

It was a bit sad that he had to start already tomorrow, but Lin knew that he would be busy.
"Lessons first, it'll be enough to distract her for a bit..."
And she couldn't fall behind on that, not with Miyuki being what she was.
"And then... well, maybe take her into the city and see how she interacts with the children, really it depends on how she'll take you to being busy."
