Well he wouldn't have to have crash landed in the Wild West era for another lantern to interact with him. I think the idea is to interact with him BEFORE he crashed. Y'know, when he's alive. If he was alive then.
I don't know much about Abin Sur or his race to know whether they're long-lived. He might have been the Green Lantern of that sector during that time or it might be one of his predecessors.

As a member of the Green Lantern Corps, Sur met and made friends with many of his fellow Corpsmen. Among his friends was the Xudarian Tomar-Re who he considered a good ally. In addition, as part of his service, Abin was assigned with the task of training Thaal Sinestro of Korugar in Space Sector 1417 with the two also forming a close friendship. This was to the point that he even introduced Sinestro to his sister Arin Sur. After several years of tracking down his predecessors killer, Abin Sur learnt that Traitor had stationed himself on the planet Earth during the late 1800's. During that time, Ungol had formed an alliance with a local Human criminal called Bloody Joe Tuscano which he used as a means to gather time in order to replenish his powers. Sur eventually arrived on Earth but by this point, Devos had unleashed what he believed was the ultimate weapon to use against Green Lanterns; gold-tipped bullets. Due to the Yellow Impurity, Power Rings were unable to work against them a Green Lantern which injured the Ungaran. Despite this advantage, Sur had formed his own alliance with a local Human Marshall who went by the name of Henry Lee Jordan. Jordan managed to get Sur to a town where the bullets were removed from his body thus allowing his Power Ring to heal himself. The two later worked together to fight both Bloody Joe and Traitor where Sur destroyed Tuscano's weapons with Traitor distracted to the point that it allowed Abin to entrap the tyrant within a pocket dimension located within his Power Ring.

Ladies and gents,
I am happy to announce that the current story in DCU has come to a close and with it a summary of events leading into the new month has been posted!
While I apologize for how massive the post may seem, hopefully it all helps in getting everyone up to date and back on track with recent events. I realize not all details are there and if there something you really wish to be included, pm me them so I may edit them in.
As for what to do now? We're starting a new evening in Gotham during October. The sun has fallen, its cool but not quite chilly out and everyone is welcome to get back into action with either getting involved in the hunt for Red Hood, falling victim to The Game or pursuing their own quests as Bane, Poison Ivy and Batgirl will all be involved in.

Finally! *pops neck* let's get it on! Get ready for "The Cinema Prop and Replica Charity Auction" ..... A better name is in the works. In other news, I just saw THE funniest thing on the news today. 8 year old cage fighting.... If America can get away with Toddlers in Tiara's... England should be able to keep Mini-Cage Fighting.
