Daemon the Sword

A mass family killing spree?

Daemon couldn't imagine anything like that, or how that would be possible. To go that back far down the line was unthinkable in some ways.

Why?

He asked in disbelief.

Nadya was slow in replying to Gion. She didn't want to make him out to be worse than he really was, and after all none of the trouble had amounted to anything. And yet she didn't want to lie to Gion either ...

Gion wondered at Nadya's hesitance in answering his question, but he took the time to answer Daemon's.

The throne, he replied simply. Long story ... Ulani's entire family was out of the picture, so if he could get his cousins, parents and aunt out of the way, he stood a pretty good chance of inheriting. He killed his grandfather to make his grandmother abdicate - but it backfired on him. She abdicated all right, but she searched out and found Ulani's family. Ulani's mother was supposed to inherit, but she didn't want it ...

He chuckled inwardly. Reminds me of Elnara a bit, in that way, he commented. Then he continued with his story. Anyways. He was trying to kill everyone else who would inherit before him, and he was going for Ulani and Regan when he was killed.

He paused. If you'd like, you can ask Ulani about it sometime, though ... I think Ulrich may prefer if you don't.

But I thought the females inheirt... and only if you were so despesrate would the male inheirt.

Daemon replied slowly trying to think about what it meant.

He could have not honestly believed that it would be only one or two deaths to gain the throne, if having a male take the throne was the last possible chance.

That sounded insane to him in a way, you would think the man wouldn't consider it seeing was he was well... male for starters.

That was what he was aiming for, Gion affirmed. Trying to kill off all the women ... which, to make fewer of them seem like murders, he would kill off their dearest loved one and they would simply die of a broken heart. It may sound odd to you, as a human, but that is and always has been the most common way for elves to die. More common even than murder or the like.

A moment later, he added, We're a very defensive race, it's pretty hard usually to kill an elf.

Unfortunately, Sheridan had had the perfect weapon.

"Well," Nadya answered finally, choosing what she felt were safe words that conveyed the truth, "he has talents that would have been employed by Sheridan Aldrich ... many of which are common to others, but in a specific combination."

In a way it was a foriegn concept, to die of a broken heart. It did happen among humans, but so rarely, and there had always been the arugement to live for your loved ones, but when he really thought about it. If you were immortal, there was no promise that when you died you would face you loved one again, because unless something drastic happened you wouldn't die.

The scary thought for me, is that it makes sense. There isn't that hope of evenually just living out your life and dying afterwards like humans and other mortals. That is how many of us who lose one loves end up living, because we know we'll die, so we must live, because that is what they would want.

Well that and having a spirit who hadn't passed on yelling in your ear didn't help matters much.

Gion mulled over Nadya's words, looking thoughtful to cover up that he was talking to Daemon still.

Why is that a scary thought? he asked his friend curiously, looking up at Nadya through partially-lidded eyes.

Because I think it's scary because one of the greatest arguements as a mortal we have when the love of our life dies, is that they would want us to live out the rest of our lives. We know our time in the world is short compared to immortals, but knowing that makes every moment we spend alive more precious that we cannot die of heartbreak. If we allowed ourselves to do that, it would be a diservice to the ones who have already passed on.

Daemon paused knowing that there were other things, like children, and family and friends, but that had always been one of the many arguements pulled out to those in deep depression.

Besides, we know we'll die of old age one day, whether we are reborn, or go to some sort of haven paradise after death the same message has always been. You should only face your loved ones after living a full life, still loving them, but loving them to continue on life for them. If you're immortal though, you cannot die from old age, so the promise of someday simply passing away to meet them on the otherside doesn't exist. It's one thing to live a lifetime wtihout someone you love, but forever, even with the promise of rebirth it's hard, because you dont' know when the rebirth will happen. You know?

I suppose I hadn't thought about it, Gion admitted thoughtfully. I mean ... I don't know, I guess it was always just a fact of life for me. One I've always known and accepted. It's true, there are those that are able to overcome the death of their dearest loved one, but cases such as those are rare, and happen only if they have other loved ones close enough to prevent their deaths ...

But that just begged the question, how was Gion's own mother able to survive? For the first decade or more after Garrick's death, she had had no one to turn to, no loved ones to help her ...

It's a sad thought, but if you live to be very old... there's always a chance people around will die from some other cause. I was lucky, Yume's spirit stuck around while she's waiting to be reborn... though... I kept getting weird looks talking to air...

Which was a fact of Daemon's life, and he wondered where Yume rested or haunted now that he wasn't around. Perhaps with one of their daughters?

Gion was sorely tempted to chuckle. Now you know how people kept looking at me when I had first found you, he told Daemon.

He decided that he couldn't sidestep Nadya's comment any longer, and, erasing the glowing letters that were over the table, he wrote, I'm sorry, Nadya, but I think I should go to sleep.

A yawn escaped his lips that he couldn't avoid, but one that seemed to punctuate his point.

Nadya smiled knowingly and nodded, rising from her seat and collecting the dishes.

"It was a long journey, wasn't it?" she murmured softly. "Though trouble-free for once."

She brought the dishes over to the counter, then turned back to Gion. "Yes ... you had best get some rest for now. The rest can wait until morning. Mother and Father will be around tomorrow as well, if you'd like to talk with them."

She put one hand on his shoulder, where she let it linger. "Shall I take you back upstairs or will you be fine?" she asked him. She was positive she had put fresh sheets and a blanket on the bed, and there were always pillows on the beds.

Yes well... I tend to not notice after a while, and people are use to me seeing things that aren't there.
Daemon replied back with a laugh.

Gion grinned inwardly to Daemon, and gave Nadya the thumbs up. He would be fine.

It's a little creepy sometimes, how much she knows, he told Daemon thoughtfully. I mean I guess it makes sense, seeing as she's a seer as well and all that, but ... it's a little creepy, know what I mean?

Then again, maybe Daemon wouldn't understand how Gion felt - being a seer himself.
