As soon as Keegan saw Nova roll out of the way of Pan's attack, he knew they were in trouble. The Treecko's tail slammed down hard on nothing but ground, but he recovered quickly, jumping back and putting as much ground between him and the now very angry Nova. He could swear the area had just got a lot hotter as suddenly she reared back and sent a lot of very scary flames at him, and had he not been as fast as he was he probably would have been roasted on the spot. Instead, he suffered severe damage to his tail and right arm and leg, and as he hobbled back towards Keegan, he couldn't help but think how bad of an idea this had been, especially when the fire type gave off even more heat, and then suddenly got a lot bigger, and meaner-looking.

"She's evolved," Keegan said, wearing a half-smirk. "That's... incredible!" Pan shot a very dirty look up at his trainer - he wasn't supposed to be impressed with his opponent! The Treecko let out an angry growl of his own and stomped his foot, his own energy starting to rush as his body was engulfed with that same white light. The Treecko's body underwent a very dramatic shift, with his legs and arms elongating, and his tail shrinking and spreading apart into two leaflike appendages. Long, sharp leaves sprouted from his wrists and his fingers became sharply hooked. A long, thin leaf grew from the top of his head, which had become more sleek and streamlined, and as the light faded, Pan let out what could only be described as a battle cry. He stared down the field at the Charmeleon, wearing a very smug smirk. She wasn't the only one with tricks up her sleeve, now was she?

Keegan stared at the strange Pokemon now standing before him in awe, and even though he already knew that Pan had just evolved into a Grovyle, he couldn't help but stare on in shock. "They... both evolved," he said, again stating the obvious, but he didn't care. "Cool!" Grinning, he looked over at Kasiya. Somehow, whenever they were together, they always managed to make stuff like this happen.

Dante watched the battle going on with mild amusement. It was always interesting to see two younger pokemon in battle, it was a good way to tell potential and just how good a trainer was to. Of course Dante knew that Keegan was a great trainer, he had never seen Kasiya battle all that much but he could tell that she was good at what she did. When both of the pokemon evolved Dante let out a long low whistle of appreciation. Not just one evolution but two? That was something that one just didn't see everyday.

At his side Hera slurped happily at her honey as she watched the other two pokemon duke it out. It seemed like a sort of grudge match was going on here. The usually pretty calm Heracross didn't really understand why two pokemon would get so upset at each other. Maybe they just had ego's that were to big? Well whatever the reason was Hera was sure it was pretty stupid to get so angry over something like grapes. After all at the end of the day she could beat them both!

~~~~~
The rainbow collared attack blasted right into the Shellos knocking it down onto the ground but it was still sleeping away. "Wake up Shellos, your in a battle right now you can't be sleepin'!
Pumping her fist up into the air Robin laughed before giving her Slowpoke a thumbs up. "Great job there! Let's keep up the good work with another Confusion!" Oh her Slowpoke was doing pretty darn good if she had to say so herself! It still took a little while for her Slowpoke to attack again. The slow part of Slowpoke was no joke!
"Wake up Shellos you can't just let them beat on you!" The fisherman yelled. It seemed like all the yelling and the damage was enough to wake the Shellos up, just in time for a rainbow collared confusion to the face from Slowpoke. The poor slug pokemon felt a lot of the damage now that it was awake. The small pink pokemon gave out a cry of pain as it picked itself up. This dopey pokemon across from her didn't look like much but it sure packed quite a punch! Still he wasn't out for the count yet! "All right Shellos! Now that yer up let's show them your Hidden Power!"
"Hidden Power?! Oh-ho! That move sounds soooo cool!" Robin couldn't help but get excited for this move she had never seen before.
"Um, ok girlie, ya sure are a weird one." The small pink slugs eyes were closed as it focused in on its secret power. Once it found the locked away power it released it towards the bubblegum pink pokemon.
Robin watched the pretty green lights flash around before crashing into Slowpoke. It certainly was pretty but it sure looked like it hurt to. "That sure was pretty but I don't think we need that anymore. Slowpoke use your disable!" Robin watched as Slowpoke just now reeled back in pain. Tears started to form at the pink pokemons eyes, that attack really hurt! Sniffling somewhat the Slowpoke registered what his trainer said and focusing his power he reached out and ticked off the ability to use Secret Power for a while. He certainly didn't want to feel that again!
Behind Robin the dripping wet and still fat Luffy appeared out of the water. The Ambipom just panted as he dragged his waterlogged body over to where Robin was battling.
"Don't count us out of this yet," Terry grumbled, looking to his weakened Granbull. Riza rolled her eyes and sighed. Would this guy ever learn? "Come on, Chomp, let's try that special move we've been working on. Give 'em your Fire Fang!" The Fairy Pokemon nodded and opened his jaw, which was suddenly alive with flames. The icy spots on his body melted from the heat and he charged at Akima, growling fiercely.
"Fire.....fang?" Riza repeated, not liking the sound of that. She figured she didn't even have to look up that move in her Pokedex as the Granbull ran at her Sneasel, and she wondered why he hadn't used this move right from the beginning. "Akima, get out of the way," Riza called. Akima watched him with wide eyes, unable to hear her trainer calling out to her. The fiery bite caught Akima right on her shoulder and she screeched loudly from the pain, but it also served as a wake up call and she quickly lashed out with her claws, landing several Fury Swipes to her foe's chest and stomach.
"Hey, it worked! Nice job, Chomp! Now try a Thunder Fang!" Shaking off the scratches he'd just received, Chomp lunged forward again, this time his jaw sparking with electricity.
This time, however, Akima was alert and prepared and she jumped back, using a Quick attack to escape the damage and put some distance between her and that pink Pokemon. This fight was turning out to be tougher than she initially thought.
The twins' Pokemon turned out to be a pair of Pachirisu, one male and one female, while Katie's battling partner, Nancy, sent out a Pokemon Katie had never seen before, let alone heard of. She took out her Pokedex just long enough to identify the pokemon as a Leafeon and she blinked in surprise and amazement. "I didn't know Eevee could evolve into a grass-type," she said.
"Neither did I, so it was quite a shock when he did evolve," Nancy replied with a smile. "Leafy, let's start out with a Tackle," she said, pointing to the male Pachirisu. The Verdant Pokemon let out a growl and dashed forward. His trainer called for a Quick attack as a counter and the two Pokemon slammed into each other in the middle of the battlefield.
"Seraph, start with Leech Seed," Katie said, looking to the female Pachirisu, which hadn't been given a command yet. The Roselia nodded and two seeds were sent flying from her roses, both embedding themselves into the squirrel's fur, which she tried to dig out with her tiny paws.
"Oh I hate Leech Seed," Liz said, looking to the Roselia. "Use Charm!" The female squirrel nodded and stopped digging at her fur long enough to blow a kiss in the direction of Nancy's Leafeon, making him feel less threatened by the squirrel and therefore easing up on his attacks.
After what seemed like an eternity, Cinnabar Island escaped the horizon's selfish clutches. The light from the volcano illuminated the night sky around it with a soft orange glow. Even the smoke looked more like steam from a cooking pot than noxious fumes.
Mike and Nitro landed on the island. The sudden stop caused the boy to roll off his Pokemon and flop on the ground. Even if he had the strength to catch himself he didn't particularly care. He was used to the taste of dirt in his mouth, and his clothes were already destroyed. Mike lifted himself up, letting out a slow breath through his nose. Heat caressed his upper lip.
Blaine... A voice in his head whispered.
Blaine...
Heeding the words of Moltres, Mike flipped open his Pokenav and studied it. Cinnabar Island wasn't a big place; most of it was the volcano. "It's like I've got a theme or something." he said to himself. He recalled Nitro back into his Pokeball for some rest.
...
Mike walked the empty streets of Cinnabar towards the Gym. He wondered what the man was like in person. He had read a great deal about Blaine when he was a kid, but words are never enough to describe someone. It was said that in his youth he was lost in the freezing mountains and led to safety by a Moltres, which led him to train Fire Pokemon. "Was it out of a realization or power, or a sense of gratitude?" he asked himself. He had always appreciated Fire Pokemon for their power and look. He had always been around them, and to a Lavaridge boy, raising Fire Pokemon is as natural as breathing.
After a few hours he made it to the gym, or at least what was left of it. What stood before him was a burnt wreckage. The roof had caved in, and the sides had fallen inward, protecting the ground beneath it like a ribcage. Inside Mike could hear a quiet tapping. He leaned in to come face to face with a Paras. It's mushrooms were small, it must have been young. "How ironic." he said to the bug. The Paras skittered off. Mike groaned. "Well, what now?" The gym was in disrepair, and from the looks of things, had been for a while. He wasn't sure what part Blaine would play in his 'redemption', but he wasn't going to argue with an ancient, exceedingly powerful Pokemon.
As he pondered, something on the ground caught his eye. A piece of paper with the Volcano Badge decal on it stuck out from one of the flayed pieces of wood that jutted out from the wall. He took it. Inside it read:
Blaine's Gym is where a man's heart lies.
To find his gym, you must solve this riddle.
The shadows of the past sow the seeds of the future.
Mike felt his eye twitch. "Puzzles." he said through grit teeth.
Sasha slammed her phone shut as she came out of the dressing room. "Dammit, why won't he answer?" she huffed, snatching her frozen drink from a nearby boy who offered to hold it for her while she changed. She wore full black leggings with a new black pleated skirt with white trim. She wore a black jacket with a large red scarf. Sinnoh was a cold, cold place.
"Friend of yours?" he asked, a hint of jealousy in his voice.
"Yeah." she replied, flipping her phone back open and hitting redial. About ten seconds later she pulled the phone away from her ear and held it in front of her face. "DAMMIT MIKE KYOKA PICK UP THE PHONE!" The boy beside her raised an eyebrow. That name seemed awfully familiar.
"Wait, Mike Kyoka...Kyoka..." he said to himself.
"Yeah, that's his name. I need to talk to him. I'm worried about him." Sasha sighed in defeat, and put her phone away. "Thanks for holding my drink, but I really have to be goin-"
"Isn't that the kid that freaked out in Slateport like, last week?" he said. Sasha stopped in her tracks. Her eyes fell to the floor.
"s**t! Now I know where I recognized you!" the boy said with an accusing point. "I saw you on TV during the attack! You were right near that freak when he went nuts!" Sasha's eyes narrowed.
"Freak?" She turned, her usual soft and gentle featured face now sharp with anger. "Who are you calling a freak? The boy took a step back once he realized she was holding a tazer.
"Woah, girl!" He raised his hands and took a few more steps back. "I didn't mean anything by it." After backing up as har as he could without falling off the ship, the boy turned and ran away. After he was out of sight, Sasha put away the tazer and walked down the ramp and exited the boat. "I wonder were Kassie is..." Sasha had taken a little longer than everyone else to get ready and missed the group exodus off the boat. No matter. They couldn't have gotten far.
In the distance she saw a bright flash of light. It wasn't cameras, nor an electrical Pokemon. "Must be an evolution." she said to herself, and picked up the pace. If it had anything to do with a battle, her friends might have been there. Sure enough, when Sasha rounded a corner she instantly recognized three people: Kasiya, Kilik and Keegan. It then struck her that she knew a LOT of people with 'K' names...
For some reason, Kasiya and Keegan were having a battle: a Charmeleon and a Grovyle. "Probably anther lover's quarrel." she said to herself. They seemed a bit less angry at each other though, and Keegan was wearing a rather cute smile on his face, which caused her to smile. She couldn't hear them over the noise, but the crowd chatter seemed to suggest they both had just evolved. Seeing Kasiya's Charmeleon reminded her of Nitro when he was a lot smaller. She sighed and took out her phone again. No new messages or calls. "J'espère que vous êtes en sécurité." Sasha said, fighting back tears.
Hypnotic waves rolled off of Ardah washing over one the corphish. It stumbled side to side, before falling over in deep sleep. The second corphish clamped its claws onto the bronzor with a vicegrip attack, but the blow did little against the steel pokemon.
Crush's second pokemon, Kalikea, appeared in a flash from her pokeball, just as the tackled corphish came back out of the water in a rage and scuttled forward in retaliation.
"Harden, Kali! And block the other corphish!" Crush called out to the reef pokemon.
Her skin thickened on the command as she dashed intercepting the charging corphish's attack.
"Char... Char... Char... Charmeleon?" Kasiya squeaked, staring at her newly-evolved Pokemon with wide, surprised eyes. She couldn't believe that Nova had evolved already, and though she knew she should probably think of a command to give her, all she could do was stare in awe. The evolution hadn't even begun to sink in yet when there was a commotion from the other side of the battlefield, and she looked over in time to see the little Treecko overcome in a bright, white light as well, and within moments Pan had evolved into... something else - her PokeDex said it was a Grovyle. Kasiya looked around at that point, noticing then that a bit of a crowd had gathered around, and seemed to be chattering excitedly among themselves.
When did these people get here? she thought, looking across the field at Keegan. He was smiling at her, and she smiled back, knowing just what that grin meant. Things like this did tend to happen when they were together, and she looked back to her Pokemon. Though the Charmeleon was still seething with rage, she did take a second to take in Pan's new form, and she gave a slight nod of approval. But, just because she respected him didn't mean that she wasn't going to bathe him in flames for his earlier actions, and she snarled across the battlefield at the Grovyle.
Kasiya smiled to herself and glanced at the crowd one more time, wondering to herself which side they were on. If she were a spectator, she knew she'd be cheering for the Charmeleon, but that was only because she knew more about it than she did the gecko. "Nova, what do you say we wrap this one up?" she asked, to which the Charmeleon replied by shooting a jet of fire into the air above her. "Glad you agree, now let's show them your Dragon Rage attack." She let out a deep sigh as Nova took a step forward and spewed a burst of indigo flames at Pan, and she couldn't help but feel a bit stronger herself now. She wasn't sure if Nova's evolution had sparked it, or if the fact that she was now raising a Charmeleon made her feel a little closer to Mike in some strange, obscure way. Either way, she felt better than she had in what seemed like a very long time.
Eraku slowly reeled his line in sighing to himself. "Still nothing...well maybe I'll have better luck later." He looked over and noticed that he must have zoned out completely because the ship was docked again and almost everyone had departed from the boat. Hmm well I guess I should get off. He walked towards the gangplank and as he walked off he thanks some of the crew who were thanking people for sailing with them he walked away from the boat and almost was run down by a boy running full speed. I wonder what he was running from? Eraku looked over and saw a familiar looking pink haired girl shooting a glare at the boy who was running off. "Oh Sasha.. well it can't hurt going to say hi and see where she's off to can it Hurricane?" The pidgey gave a chirp in response and the two walked over to the pink haired girl. " Hey Sasha! That guy..not a fan of yours..I take it?"
'We have to end this soon, after that Fire fang Akima can't have much stamina left,' she thought, wishing she had thought to pick up that special TM she'd been meaning to. It would have been a great help to her right now, but she knew she shouldn't be dwelling on things she should have done. "Faint Attack," she said, deciding that she didn't want to give the Granbull a chance to dodge, and that would bring them one step closer to taking him down for good.
Akima gave a quick salute before she darted forward, disappearing in a wisp of dark energy and appearing behind the Granbull quite suddenly. She slashed at him with her claws, managing to deal some good damage in the process.
"Quick Chomp, counter with a Headbutt," Terry called. He could see that his Pokemon was looking weak, but the Sneasel was starting to slow down too. The Pokemon whirled around and smashed forwards with his massive head. Akima, who was just recovering from her own attack, was hit hard and knocked to the ground, but she jumped back up again, not ready to quit just yet.
Katie and Nancy exchanged glances for a moment before they looked back at the pair of EleSquirrel Pokemon they were battling. Katie had always thought Pachirisu were very cute, but she never had any real desire to capture one. 'They are pretty fast though,' she thought, watching as the two trainers called for their Pokemon to both use Quick Attack.
"Leafy, you use Quick Attack too," Nancy said, watching as her Pokemon rushed out to meet the male Pachirisu one more time. It was clear that the Leafeon was much stronger than the squirrel, but the little electric-type didn't appear like it wanted to give up. It let out a cry and sparks flared from its cheeks. Leafy replied with a little growl.
Meanwhile, the leech seeded Pachirisu smashed into Seraphim for a decent hit, and the Roselia staggered back, a little annoyed. "Stun Spore," Katie said, still thinking about the little squirrel Pokemon, though she doubted she would capture another electric-type seeing as she already had little Kord.
The Roselia picked herself up and dusted herself off with her rosy hands before she did a twirl and sent out a cloud of glittering golden spores to rain down on the squirrel. "Don't breathe it in!" Liz called but it was too late. The white and blue Pokemon got a good lungful of the spores and began coughing, and she fell on her tummy as the paralysis started to take effect.
Despite the intensity of the battle going on in front of him, Kilik seemed very uninterested in what was going on. Battles that didn't involve him always bored him to an extent. It wasn't until Pan used his Grasswhistle that Kilik was ready to call the victory in for the gecko Pokemon. Pound after Pound, Nova was dead asleep and completely oblivious to what was going on around her. He always wondered how a Pokemon could sleep through an onslaught on their own being. The battle was extremely one-sided. Yet something amaizng happened right as Pan was about to deliver the finishing blow! Nova rolled out of the way and to defend herself, a white light burst out of her, triggering her evolution. "No way," Kilik said, dumbfounded. Cable crossed his arms over his chest and watched the evolution happen. He was proud to see that the Pokemon evolved to defend itself. Much like his own evolution, Nova's was sparked to a need rather than a desire. That's when evolutions were the best. Oh, dear! What was her hero to do? She could feel tears welling up in her eyes and she just about jumped from Kilik's shoulder to stop the battle herself, or to at least team up with Pan to battle against the newly evolved Charmeleon.
"Quite unexpected," the boy whispered to himself, bringing his hand to his chin in thought. He closed his eyes and could see another white light shining brightly through his eyelids. When he opened them, a Grovyle was standing in Pan's place. It appeared, to him, that his evolution was triggered more out of envy than any other source. "Well, this is a pleasant turn of events. Not only can the battle continue," Kilik said with a laugh, "But they both have new, stronger Pokemon to train with." He looked over at his own Treecko and wondered when she would evolve. She was so cute at this stage, and he wondered if this would carry on through her Grovyle and Sceptile stages as well. Oh, her Pan! That was her Pan standing there! So strong, so heroic! She did truly love him so! Now he could protect from any threat that came their way, with how powerful he was now. She nuzzled into Kilik's cheek happily, her cheeks tinted red. Kilik smiled and looked a bit past Keegan, towards the crowd that had formed in response to the two evolutions. A familiar head of pink hair was among them. "Ah, so Sasha made it. I thought I saw her on the ship." He waved at the girl and smiled a bit wider.
"Finally!" he cried out, jumping from the boat's loading dock onto the streets of Canalave. "That stupid trip os over!" He pulled his sleeve up a bit and talked clearly into the communicator. "Leader, this is Maz. I have landed in Sinnoh in pursuit of Mike Kyoka. Many of his friends are here, so it is clear to me that he shall arrive. I will continue my search and continue to provide you with more information." Yes, perfect! With that, Mazarin headed east (as the west led only to a very thick forest). Over the bridge, he could see a gathering of people around a building. "Murkrow!" he called, tossing the ball up into the air. The boy grabbed onto the bird's ankle and the witchy Pokemon flew up into the air with Mazarin looking through a pair of binoculars.
"I see Kilik, not hard to miss. Two people battling with a Charmeleon and Grovyle..." he looked through the crowd, and winced. "Psycho girl Sasha is there too, I see her a-walkin'. But no Mike to be seen. Down, Murkrow." The bird brought it's trainer down to the ground and he returned it to the PokeBall. "I'll keep my distance," he said clearing his throat, "No sense in getting tased again..."
After receiving the transmission from Mai, Giovanni wasted no time in collecting the Electric rodent from the PC. He looked at the PokeBall and smirked, clenching it tighter in his hands. "Despite our countless Pokemon," he said, "I find great joy in using one of the children's own Pokemon to experiment on. Come out, Shocker." The ball opened and he looked the Raichu in the eye. "You're a strong specimen," he said looking the Pokemon over, "Namba!" Giovanni barked, standing up straight. A scientist ran over to the leader. "You are to take this Raichu," he recalled the frightened rodent into the ball, "and begin the experiments on the Devolution Beam." Professor Namba nodded and dashed off with the PokeBall.
"If I can start by reversing stone evolution," Giovanni whispered to himself, "the next step is Pokemon that evolve by trading with another Trainer." The mystery of evolution boggled even his mind. Why did some Pokemon evolve by being with another trainer? Machamp, Gengar, Golem, and Alakazam...what made them special? Furthermore, the Pokemon that evolved by coming into contact with an item then being traded with another. Scizor, Kingdra, Politoed, Slowking, Steelix...There were many that evolved in that fashion. "And those that evolve by friendship! Umbreon, Espeon, Blissey...If they evolve by friendship, could they possibly devolve through hatred?" A million thoughts were running through his mind. "The final step would be devolving Pokemon that changed on their own, by growing stronger..." It would be a long task, but if he could complete this device...the payoff would be enormous...
Upon seeing Nova's approving nod, Pan turned in the Charmeleon's direction and winked at her, glad to see that she wasn't the pushover he'd initially thought. He looked over at Treecko and gave a little bow and a wave before letting her know that he was still in this by blowing the little gecko a kiss. Keegan rolled his eyes at the Grovyle's antics; apparently it was possible for Pan to love himself even more now that he'd evolved. Keegan himself only just heard Kasiya's command, and looked over at the blonde and her Charmeleon in time to see an awful lot of purplish/blue flames headed in Pan's direction.
"Uh, Pan, you might wanna pay attention to the battle instead of your girlfriend," Keegan warned, and the Grovyle turned in time to get a face-full of Dragon Rage. He screeched loudly and hopped back, knowing full well that he hadn't been hit by a regular fire attack - somehow it made his body feel like it was burning everywhere at once, but it lacked the scorching heat of true fire. He attempted to shake it off and glared at Nova. How dare she attack while he wasn't looking? Keegan sighed, and shook his head, pretending he didn't hear the slight laugher from the crowd around them, though out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a familiar girl with long, pink hair - Sasha. He made a mental note to check up on her once the battle was over before looking to his Pokemon, who was still trying to shake off the burning feeling of the Dragon Rage. Pan's ego will be his downfall, yet somehow I'm okay with that, he thought, carefully considering his next move. He could always try another Grasswhistle, but he didn't think it would work so well a second time. She may have just evolved, but Nova's still hurting from all those Pounds Pan landed on her before. If we can hit her hard and fast, there's a good chance we can take her down. "Pan, it's time for a Quick Attack," he called finally.
The Grovyle didn't need to be told a second time and he swiftly darted forward, impressing even himself with his amazing speed. As a Treecko, he'd never been able to move this fast, and his mouth curled upward in a bit of a grin as he closed in on the Charmeleon, raising up his bladed arms in preparation of his attack.
"What in the hell does that even mean?" Mike asked with a furrowed brow. "The shadows of the past sow the seeds of the future?" Mike held his chin in his hand as he pondered the riddle. "He wants me to look into his past or my own? I've only got room for one internal self-redeeming quest right at a time, Blaine."
"The gym...the gym..." a voice whispered in his ear.
"Hm?" Mike looked at the burnt and rotten mess that once called itself an official Pokemon Gym Most of the walls were completely sideways, but the door still stood in defiance of everything else. "How cute." he thought to himself. "A lone entity standing amid the weight of everything else. It must be feeling a great degree of strain...stress." Mike walked up and ran his hands up the charred door frame. He felt it quiver slightly, and a light trail of smoke wafted up where he caressed. "Don't you know how dangerous that is?" he chuckled menacingly. "Sooner or later you'll fall, why don't I speed things-UP!" With a spin, Mike delivered a swift kick to the door. It sent a giant crack through the middle, and seconds later sent the door and half the wall crashing to the ground with a thunderous smash.
"Kyee-hahaha!" Mike threw his hands up and reveled in the small amount of destruction. In his glee, however, he noticed something on the ground. In the center of the busted Gym there was a red box. "Oh-ho?" He walked over the now defeated door. "Told you!" he said with a smile. He reached down and picked up the box. Like the note, it wore the mark of the Cinnabar Gym. "Another clue?" He reached for the top to open it, but before he could, the box began to smoke. Before Mike could as much as c**k an eyebrow the box exploded in flames. "AAGH!" He screamed and picked at the box, and grabbed the paper inside before it too was consumed by flames. He blew out one of the smoldering corners and read the next message.
If you look west, you will see my hands, or at least my face. Mine is the one that rules them all.
Once again, he was given a limited time, as this message burnt up in his hands as well. "Aw dammit! West. West. West. Hands. Face. West." Mike didn't have the best memory. He was so busy looking for the answer to the west that he completely forgot to wonder why holding a piece of burning paper didn't hurt him in the slightest.
"I can't see anything in the west!" he growled, looking down at his PokeNav to make sure he was looking in the right direction. "All that's there is the stupid...clock...tower...
...
God dammit."
"It's time to finish this," Riza whispered to herself, glancing over at Terry. She couldn't help but wonder why he'd held back his Granbull's Fire Fang attack, specifically when it would have taken two, maybe three of them to take Akima down. "Finish him with an Ice Punch," she said, her tone icy.
The Sneasel nodded, knowing she was just about done for as well, and she jumped at the Granbull, her fists glowing with that ever familiar icy power. She ducked around the pink Fairy Pokemon as he tried to bite down on her with another Fire Fang, coming up on his other side before driving home a strong Ice Punch into his stomach. Chomp let out a weak cry of pain before tumbling over backwards, a large icy patch forming on his belly where Akima had hit him. He was not getting back up after that one. "Good job, Akima," Riza said as the Sneasel came back to her side, and she let her hand rest on Akima's head. She looked over at Terry as he recalled his Granbull. "Why didn't you use Fire Fang right from the get go?" she asked.
He sighed, and walked towards Riza as she stood back up, holding Akima in her arms. The Sneasel was resting her head on her trainer's shoulder, very tired, but not wanting to go back in her poke ball just yet. "Well, the truth is, Chomp only just learned Fire Fang and he's still not very good with it yet. When it worked earlier in the battle, it really was just a lucky strike. The fire usually freaks him out and he's unable to use the attack, but I guess your Sneasel had him riled up enough to forget his fears, at least for a moment or so."
Riza nodded, as the explanation made sense. "I see. But you should keep working with it, because a move like that could really catch your opponent off guard. You should keep working with him, though. Chomp is really strong." She smiled and held her hand out to him for a handshake, which he accepted.
"Thank you, Riza," he said. "We'll continue with our training, and hopefully someday we'll have another match."
"I hope so too," she said. "But if you start spamming Metronome again, I'm gonna slap you upside the head." The two of them laughed a bit and exchanged phone numbers, and as Riza turned to head back to the pokecenter, she couldn't help but think of how oddly that battle had gone. 'Terry wasn't so bad,' she thought, still holding Akima as she walked.
"Now, Seraph, use Stun Spore on the other one," Katie called, and again the Roselia let out a cloud of shining spores. The second Pachirisu did his best to get away from it, but the wind was against him and he found himself coated with the spores as well.
"Use Bide!" Liz and Liv both called out at the same time, and the two paralyzed Pachirisu hobbled back towards their trainers. Their cheeks sparked slightly and their tails curled around their bodies in a protective manner, a slight reddish hue covering them both.
"I think it's time for a Razor Leaf, since they're not attacking," Nancy said, nodding to Leafy. The Leafeon gave a nod and flicked his tail, sending a volley of razor sharp leaves at the two Pachirisu.
"No!" Katie shouted, but it was too late and the leaves sliced into the two squirrels, leaving little red cuts all over their bodies. "They're using Bide, any damage we do to them will be turned back double on us!" Katie told Nancy.
"Oops, sorry, I didn't know," Nancy replied, shrugging. "I'm a florist, not a battler!" The two squirrels' bodies glowed a bit as they continued to bide, storing up energy from the Razor Leaf they'd just taken. "I hope I didn't ruin this..." Nancy said with a sigh.
Kilik's happy smile and wave snapped Sasha out of her momentary depression. She waved back with a smile of her own, rubbing her eye with the other. "Merci, Kilik." He always seemed to be there when she was down, unintentionally brightening her day. Sasha took note of his newly evolved Electabuzz without much surprise. She'd seen that little scamp trucking along during the Rocket attack and figured it was only a matter of time.
Sasha was about to walk over and stand by Kilik when a familiar voice called out to her from behind. It was Eraku, that nice little unassuming boy with the cute little Pidgey. "Qu'est-ce? Guy? You mean Kili-oh, z'hat jerk." He was obviously referring to the boy she scared off on the boat. "Kicking someone when z'hey are down, confused and scared is not somez'hing I allow. Especially not when it's a very dear friend of mine." She snorted in anger, trying her very best to make it sound lady-like. "Oh well." she said with a sigh, her face snapping back to her usual soft and happy demeanor. "I'm about to go and talk to my friend, would you care to join me, monsieur?"
"Stupid stupid stupid." Mike said, scrunching his face in annoyance. "I hate riddles. I hate puzzles. Why does everyone keep throwing this cryptic bullshit at me? Can I just have a single task that's simple and easy to comprehend? Like, grass. Grass is easy to understand. It just grows. Nothing special. It grows. Sometimes it gets cut down, or burned, but it just grows. Nothing special, nothing complicated." He groaned. "Why can't more problems be like grass: simple?"
"The road to redemption is littered with strife."
"Shut up, you're not helping me concentrate." Mike grumbled and started walking towards the clock tower. As he walked down the street, he could hear Pokemon splashing in the distance, most likely Tentacool. A lanturn flickered about twenty feet to his left, which seemed to sync up with the crunching of gravel beneath his feet.
"Click. Crunch. Click. Crunch. Click."
"Click, clock, click, clock."
Overhead, some birds chirped. Three Pidgey and a Pidgeotto if his guess was correct.
"The sky is very pretty tonight. The clouds look like mashed potatoes. Brown has always been a weird color. My shoes are brown."
"West. Clock tower. Clock Tower. Tlock Cower. Tock Clower." Mike stared at the tower and stopped for a moment. He wondered what was in there. Maybe another clue, maybe a secret staircase? Maybe it led to the gym, like, a secret lair. Thinking of a nice secret hole to go into made him feel a bit uneasy about being outside. "It's so, open, like a broken cardboard box. I need some walls, only temporarily. This will pass of course, but for now, I'm a bit scared. I feel like the stars are watching me, judging me." Mike pulled up what was left of his collar and scurried off, hoping for a sense of salvation in this clock tower.
"Gotta get to the clock tower!" Mike yelled defensively to the people that were not there. "Just running, don't mind me! I'm a jogger with a purpose! I just forgot my sweats at home and Hoenn is too far away to walk to just for a stupid pair of pants! You should walk too, it's healthy, like carrots!" The stars felt closer, like they were brighter, or falling. "FALLING!" He picked up speed, screaming loudly for people to take shelter. In the distance, a few windows lit up.
Soon the tower was near, almost within reach. Mike dove for it, but he missed by a few yards. He tumbled with a significant lack of grace, but it was fine. He was there. He had to find the button. "It's always like this, a secret button. Secret staircase. Like a lab! Buttonbuttonbuttonbuttonbuttonbutton." He pawed the sides of the brick tower as he creeped along the wall. On the side facing the sea a single brick stood out. A very small, almost insignificant insignia broke the monotony of the design. Mike punched this brick. He missed. It hurt, a lot. He called it some kind words, and opted to just push it instead (with his other hand). This time he hit it. Inside the clock tower, there was a scraping noise, and a section of the wall pulled away to reveal a large staircase.
"Holy s**t I was right! Yes! I'm always right!" With a crazed giggle, Mike raced down the stairs.
