That got a highly annoyed look from the captain.

"I've been in the Gullet before. granted not in stormy weather, but I've been down it. have a little faith in my abilities would you?"

glancing between both of the things.

"Of course you won't. you don't trust me any farther than arm's reach. and I am getting tired of it! I've half a mind to just throw you overboard and let the Claw deal with your overbearing nitpicking attitude! you hired a pirate, you wanted transportation, and then you constantly question and b***h about the methods I use to travel because you think they are a bit 'unsafe'. maybe if you concerned yourself less with how you get there and more with what is there to be gotten you'd be more useful and we wouldn't be hunting for needles in damned haystacks!"

taking a drink from his rum bottle.

"your kind are supposed to be in tune with this thing, but your so concerned about this team of yours being treated like royalty and kept so damned safe they might as well be in a convent than on the oceans that you apparently can't focus enough to be more help than 'let's try here'...oh the hell with it. I might as well be talking to the damned mast!"

before noting the piece on his deck.

"and fix that right now you dogs!"

before going back into his cabin and slamming the door shut...leaving his first mate on deck with both those creatures and a kind of 'I'm sorry?' look.

Where was Caden in all of this? Well when the rain started he decided to refresh himself by standing outside and getting a bit wet, which was good and it soothed his body to a point though now he would have to change his clothes, but that he didn't mind. The problem was that when Hunter made that sharp move with the ship Raynes was leaning against the edge of the ship so the sudden movement basically tossed him over, lucky for him though he was able to grabbed the railing with both hands and just hanged there for a minute wishing he could find the person who decided to change the course of the ship.

Now getting up was a bit hard, the rail was a bit slippery and his hands were covered in water so he was afraid that if he pulled himself up his hands might come undone, still it was better than waiting for someone to come by and give him a hand. So with a few tries, and thanking himself of being in such good shape, he managed to pull himself up and over the edge and back on deck. "I'm going below..." He muttered to himself and headed down so he could go change in his room, though as he made his way down the stairs his boot stepped on a large puddle of water on one of the steps and that combine with his already wet boot sent him flying down the rest of the staircase, again luck seemed to be on his side since he just fell with just a few steps remaining. When he landed Caden let out a grunt of pain before standing up and brushing himself off with a sigh before noticing the elves and Jae were standing near by. Oh this is just great...

"He's Hunter...and like a roach. You just can't kill him. Even if you cut off his head, he's still going to live for two more weeks." Giving a chuckle then, "Stay our course Mister Robins, we'll merely be waiting on the other side for him." Though when they did indeed get around that point, and the back edge of the storm, she was quite surprised. Walking over to the railing she braced her hands on the railing, mouth half agape. "Blood 'ell, how'd he manage that one!" Before a sniff and regaining her composure, then turning to Mister Robins. "Well...looks like I've lost our bet. How dreadful." And no doubt that he would come for bragging rights. "Half sail Mister Robins, the storm is falling to our backs."

Savvy had grabbed a bucket not two seconds before Shyrae made her metion, and had lost what food she had in there. "Too late...lost it already..." Giving a groan as she was hunched over that bucket, just in case anything else wanted to try and come back up. "I hate ships!" If there was anything she hated, it was being sick in some way...it just plain sucked. "Not if it's going to come back up..."

"Most men usually do. Though the humans are far more reckless...I say it's because of thier tendency to forget what a storm can mean. This one may not have red lightining in it, but it's still formidable." Looking up at the deck that served as a ceiling for then right now. After all, she was worried about Kaz being up there...pirates were used to this stuff and Kaz was one for duty, sometimes it made him narrow minded. But Xeke would look out for him, right? Attention back to those she had rolled into. "You know, if you suck on a mint, it will help with your stomach. I smell some around here somewhere." Before a look to Caden whom had come tumbling down the stairs. "Looks like we're all off balance."

Eilynne let him babble on and mostly ignored him, walking along the ship and making sure everything was fine before gesturing to her companion. He popping up to the crow's nest and gently rested a hand on Kaznec's forehead, waving his staff and muttering a few words to revive him. "Rise young dragonlord. Are you injured anywhere else?"

She, however, was not ruffled by his childish display and merely patted Mister Richard's shoulder. "Make sure all lifelines were secured and all of your crew is accounted for. Then make sure the others are fine below deck. Your Captain and I have a meeting to have. Keep on course towards the current destination but all injured must be tended to and any lost will result in drastic consequences." Thus she turned and calmly walked into Hunter's cabin, refusing to knock or otherwise announce her presence. "I intervene when you foolishly put everyone at risk. You chose to race with the Claw and I stayed back. A harmless race is just that. But in your greed and desire to win, you took a shortcut you are less than familiar with in the worst possible conditions, and Kaznec suffered for it. You gave no care but to yourself and your pride. Put your pride aside, Captain Deacon. It has no place on this voyage."

Folding her hands for a moment, she sighed, "I understand frustration better than anyone else on this ship. You are not used to subtle movements and careful planning. Your own planning is not nearly as focused either but it never needs to be. You are good at what you do and your crew is somewhat loyal." Raising her hand to stop the protest she knew was coming. "This voyage is not a pirate's looting nor is it a lark on the high sandseas. We must proceed with caution, Captain Deacon. It will go much easier if you would trust my judgment and instead of searching through my words for the insults you believe I am invoking upon your head, take them at face value and allow me to perform my task."

Thobias was with his captain in wondering just how the hell the Chimera had managed to get that far ahead. A shake of his head. "That scalawag had to have had magical influence. That's the only explanation which means he cheated!" Growling at that, he turned and lifted his hands. "Half sail maggots!" Turning to stroll down and make sure everything was doen as it was supposed to be. He lifted his boot and shoved one male's backside before taking a moment to inquire just why he wasn't doing his job. Pissed off Mister Robins was not a fun thing.

Wincing at the less than pleasant noise and look of another elf tossing their cookies, she nodded. "That's fine." Listening to the dragon for a moment, she dug into one of her many hidden pockets and pulled out a crinkled leaf. "Here, this will do the trick." The galley had been lacking in most things but mint they'd had in large quantities. Now she knew why. "He could think of someone besides himself for a change." So much like her older brother. "Red lightning?" Caden got a glance but she wasn't about to leave her friend. They were all stuck rolling around right now. She'd take care of any injuries he sustained after the roiling stopped.

A strange buzzing feeling moved its way down from his forehead to his chest, a feeling that was comforting but oddly demanding in a sense. Thus to wave it off, he brought a hand up to his head and suddenly touched another. Golden eyes opened in surprise and stared right back into another pair of literal starry ones. Another Laerethe?! This one obviously male and probably the reason for his awakening. Oh right, now it all came back to him... The memories and the dull ache on the side of his head. Kneading a few fingers against his temple, he brought himself up to a sitting position and continued to look over the little creature. "Um... no. Thank you." A pause to consider if his next question would be rude at all. "Who are you?"

Xeke had been rather surprised to see the young dragon fall, but as he couldn't really do anything about it, remained in place until this new Laerethe was summoned by Eilynne. "Intriguing..." And then, giving a little bliping sound, the Seon vanished as if it had suddenly remembered it had somewhere to be.

"that was not a race like you think it was. nor was it harmless."

looking up from his maps at her.

"You assume far too much about me. Don't you have any kind of challenging or insults among your own that aren't hidden in riddles that take years to unravel?"

Setting his quill down.

"I never said it was either of those things. what I threw to the Claw was no harmless jest. right now I imagine, due to your influence, that Gem and her first mate are highly pissed. and not because of losing. What I threw down was a challenge to the Claw. a challenge that Gem's ship was not equal to mine, and that I could sail through a storm, full of chaotic winds and still best her. that my crew, my skill, my ship...are better than hers. that I am better than her in every way. a harmless race would have been no big deal. my ship against hers...but this was more than that."

he got himself up, looking through some books on a shelf, pulling on out and laying it by his maps.

"I did nothing less then proverbially slap her and her first mate across the face. But now, thanks to your influence, that proverbial slap has been followed with a dagger in their backs."

settling back down.

"I've been down these paths you keep trying to override me on before. I know what I am doing. Kanzec suffered a bump on the head, not a life threatening injury. Would we have beaten the Claw without going through? maybe. but the odds of doing so increased greatly by choosing to test my skill in a place that I am familiar with, though not under the conditions we had."

His voice was calm, and quite collected. a remarkable difference from a moment ago.

"And you do insult me. every time you force me into a corner and have me back down, you insult me, and you compromise my authority on my ship. Yes, I know there are a few that would slit my throat if given the opportunity. and I know that fear of being caught keeps them from acting on those impulses. but the more you make me back down, the more you make me look weak to them, the stronger those impulses get. and how many more are going to start to wonder if they coudl take the Chimera from me because of these perceptions."

resting his quill down after marking a few more paths of travel.

"You don't trust my skill, because you are afraid that I'll bite off more than I can chew because the paths I take are dangerous. you call it needless because you can go around them. and I saw going around them costs us precious time."

"We are in a race. we're racing against an enemy that has an advantage of obviously having many of these shards we're looking for. he has the ability, which has been proven, to construct and send dragons after us. to cause quakes, to create massive sandstorms at will. and I'd rather take more dangerous roads, and increase more quickly our arsenal of weapons against this enemy, than make sure your team has smooth sailing with exception of sandstorms."

"Cheated or not, on the high sandseas, you either win or lose." Crossing her arms and letting water drip off to the deck as the clouds were thinning and the lightining because more like backlighting to the ships. No she wasn't happy at all...not at all. Now she was out gems and she was going to have to listen to Hunter brag to her and throw it in her face. Oh she could hear him now 'Even with your Wings, Jewel, the Chimera and I Hawk still beat you, you'll always be in second place'. A growl and she fisted a hand, hitting it on the railing before going about stripping out of her long coat and throwing it to the nearest crew member. "Draw up my Wings and get my decks swabbed! I want them dry and I want to be able to see myself in them! Helmsman, steady as she goes and someone bring me my map and pay off Mister Robins!" Brushing slightly damp red hair from her face before taking to touring her ship to the bow.

Savvy took the leaf, duly popping it in her mouth and giving it a crunch between her teeth before just holding it in her cheek. Oh stomach turning...hm, she was quickly starting to hate sand too. It was like gritty water really...though water still was number one on her hate list. Especially in large amounts. "Pirates are pirates..." Holding that bucket between her knees where she sat, leaning back against some sort of support pole. "Well...feels like things are starting to calm down...good."

She looked around a moment and then gave a nod. "Indeed does feel so." Not that that would make her any less clumsy. But her attention turned back to the dark skinned elf. "Yes, red lightining. When the storms that ravaged Ilindal and the rest of the plane came, they shot red lightining. It's said that it disentigrated whatever it hit...thus why all the sand. Though if you really want to know about that, you should ask someone who's lived through it. I've only red about such things, I'm too young for personal experience of those. Most of us are these days." Jumping a little at the reminants of thunder sounding as they started to leave the storm behind. "Oh...I just thought of something, we've never really met. I'm Jaebelltiah, Guardian Strategist Apprentice. Well, officially. Off the record I'm an inventor." Manners were good.

Chuckling lightly Caden made his way over to the three girls and leaned against a wall for support, he didn't want to go flying into them because of some dumb idiot at the helm of the ship. "I'm just glad to see everyone is okay." He said in response to Jae's comment about everyone being off balance. Though a look to the elves as they spoke about something until he realized they were speaking of Hunter more or less. "Oh yeah...he'll never get it through his head that he needs to stop thinking of just himself, I just hope he doesn't lead us into worse trouble." That was the only comment he had on the whole pirate thing until he listened to Jae speaking of red lightning. "Even I don't know much about red lightning or even know someone who has been through it, still it's something that makes people worry when ever there is a storm, they never want to see it at all and are glad they haven't."

Though Caden had to smile as he too realized that the storm was just about gone, a good thing too he didn't want to worry about rain for awhile now though he hoped that the sun could dry his cloths, he was soaked. But he looked to Jae and smiled. "Some of the things you invent are not bad, but don't ask me to be your test subject." Caden chuckled a little as he pulled himself away from the wall, the boat was starting to get back into it's gentle rocking rythm.

He gave a small nod and stepped back slightly allowing the dragon some space. "I am Rahsaveer. Eilynne requested that I come and help with the storm." He quirked an eyebrow for a moment and moved a piece of hair out of his eyes. "You look surprised...why?"

Eilynne shook her head and sighed. Obviously he wasn't getting it. "It is not your skill I do not trust Captain. My crew were not the only ones handpicked for this voyage. You yourself were on my list from the beginning despite your less than savory past. You have wit, cunning, and an attention to things that most miss. I admire your hardworking spirit and refusal to give up. But each of my crew has weaknesses as well. Yours is your rashness, the same hotheadedness that you displayed when you launched yourself at the dragons." A pause for a moment and she studied him.

"I admit that I may have been slightly overbearing to you at first. I did not trust you as anything more than transport and you even seemed to laugh at that. Your carefree attitude did not rest well with me and I am still uncertain. The cavern seemed like a ridiculous way to win a race that you knew you were going to lose. I may not know very much but mechanics does not lie. The Claw is faster. Why prove yourself when a fact is fact?"

"That being said, it is true that we do not know how much time we have or even what the enemy can ultimately do. But that is the very reason we must proceed with caution. To rush headlong in without thinking puts us at a distinct disadvantage. We need to feel him out, test what he can throw at us and then find a way to outsmart him. Your ship is safe and as long as my companion remains with us we have control of the sandseas. He cannot harm us the way you believe he can." She walked over to him and held out a hand. "The enemy may be unknown but my strategy is not without reason. I cannot explain it all to you or anyone else on this ship. I am asking you to trust me."

Thobias sighed and shook his head. She'd never refuse to pay him but he'd give it back. Be it a worthless bet or just covertly slipping it back into her coffers, he was not going to take the booty from a rigged race. Of course she would refuse to keep it and thus he'd be forced to convince her which would lead to more fun on both of their parts. "You heard her sea urchins! Get to work!" He stepped up onto the rail of the ship and held one of the ropes from the rigging gazing out as the storm's ferocity struck behind them. Nothing like the open sands to improve his mood. And perhaps a bullet in Hunter's a**.

Taking the information at face value, she considered it for a moment. "That's awful. I only thank the gods we haven't seen that on our plane yet." Of course that could be what happened to the surface all those years ago? Or maybe not. She glanced between Caden and Jae for a moment but decided any questions she might have should wait. "No, I suppose not. I'm Shyrae Inthara. Technically I'm a Trainer but I pretty much do anything I'm capable of at the moment. Kind of looking for my niche at this point in time. This is my friend, Lady Silverfeather D'vinn." It would be up to her if she gave out her given name or not. "Inventor? I've done a bit of my own here and there. Mostly with magical things and potions. What have you come up with?"
PostPosted: Mon Jun 18, 2007 5:46 pm

A slight glance at her hand.

"the Claw is faster when the game is even. I wanted to see what her Wings can do. the storm gives me an advantage because I can harness the faster stronger winds more easily then the Claw...so she would have to use her wings. and by using those, I could have gauged, taking even the more dangerous road, how effective they are."

a slight smirk.

"and if they were good enough, make a pair of my own."

but he did take the offered hand.

"I'll trust you, if you'll trust me. I still prefer the dangerous road, though."

before letting her hand go and going out on deck.

"Mister richards, furl the sails, let the Claw catch to us. I have a need to talk with Captain Neerem."

She was standing on the back of the figurehead, which was thus the shoulders of a pouncing tiger with claws extended, leapoing from what seemed to be a tornado, that thus turned to the rest of the chip. Gale Claw indeed. Though standing here and looking at her map a moment before turning a look through her spyglass...noting that the sails of the Chimera were being drawn up...and she knew what that meant. Was going to need a stiff drink after this...her ego was hurting. Whether he used magic or not, he had still found means to beat her...it was not sitting well on her pride at all. A look turned to Hunter as the Gale Claw slid up alongside the Chimera. "Ready to gloat already are you?" Staying perched where she was on the figurehead.

Savvy was still holding her bucket close. Just in case. But it seemed her stomach was settling and everything would be just fine and dandy. Well...that sounded cheerful and optimistic...good thing she hadn't said it out loud. A mere hand motion of acknowledgement at being introduced, but it seemed that she didn't want to take it any farther than that. Not many knew of her name on his ship, though many spoke it daily. Well...at least her nickname, but they didn't know that and she wasn't comfortable yet giving her name...they had the gaull to pity her and treat her like a invalid, thus she wasn't going to give them something valuable as that.

Hm, seemed she wasn't going to get another name out of the quiet sick one...but some elves were just like that. Or so she guessed. A blink at Caden though. "You know plenty who were alive then, the older elves and dragon-folk...they just don't like to talk about it. Lycear doesn't even like to talk about it." Turning amber eyes back to the elves. "Trainer huh? Sounds nifty. I don't play with magical things, only mechanics and such." Reaching into her pocket and pulling out what she had used with Kaznec at the ruins, her little self lighting palm sized torch. Easily she flicked it open, igniting instant flame. "This is one, call it a spark candle...when you open it, the flint strikes and sparks, lighting the candle. All with a flick of the lid. I have more, but they're in the crow's nest."
PostPosted: Mon Jun 18, 2007 6:32 pm

A blink to Jae as she spoke back to him and he gave a light grin. "Well I hope to see more of your work...you have made some pretty interesting ideas and you got the skill for bringing them to reality." It was true, he has seen some of the stuff she made and in Caden's opinion Jae came up with some pretty good inventions, well the stuff that he has seen anyway.

Though when Jae pulled out her spark candle and used it to show the drow just one of her many inventions Raynes gave a small nod to the dragon as he stared at it. "Now I like this...it would be useful to where we are going if there is no light." A small pause before he looked to Jae with a smile. "Is it alright if I can have one? Never know when one might need a spark candle."

Hunter leaned over the railing of his ship.

"No bragging at all. may I come aboard, captain?"

both by the bows of thier ship...he did like her adornment. his own was reflective of the ship..an menagerie of fierce animal heads, all roaring or snarling or biting in different ways up the prow.

Kaz decided that it would be more considerate if he stayed seated and thus, wouldn't be so tall that the Laerethe would have to raise his head to speak with him. "Kaznec. Thank you for reviving me, Rahsaveer." Still very much fascinated by him. Now he'd met not one, but two, Laerethe! "Perhaps more startled than surprised... I've only ever read about the Laerethe in literature. Meeting Eilynne has been far more than an honor and now, being aided by you. It makes me rethink my luck." A pause and then giving a questioning look. "Are you staying with us on this quest?"

"You are very welcome, Kaznec. It was a pleasure. Eilynne has told us all much about you and your father as well. Lycear is a good leader, faithful and wise." He tapped the swirling ball gently and was quiet for a moment. "I do not know for sure. It is left to Eilynne's needs."

Shyrae took the spark candle from her and opened it, watching the flame appear and laughed, "Very nice, Jaebelltiah. I'm quite impressed and I'd love to see some more of your work once this storm is over finally." Unless that was now...she just wasn't sure. Handing the device over to Caden, she pulled out her own little innovation and handed it over. Made of smooth reeds from the bottom of the lake..which were quite difficult to get without dying, it was smooth and hollowed out with a dragon etched into the side as well as the imprint of runes. "This is what I used to give out the mating call when we were attacked."
