Daemon the Sword

PostPosted: Fri Jun 29, 2007 7:11 pm

True....

Daemon watched through Gion's eyes, seeing as he had never 'seen' the house before. It was very lovely he had thought to himself, it's a wonder they hadn't drop by here earlier.

Nadya was in the pantry at just that moment, pulling together a few bits and pieces for a quick snack. The sun was already setting, and though she knew her parents would be in soon for the night, she also knew that Gion would be looking for something to eat. Something light.

She already had glasses of ale out on the table, ready for them to sit and chat, but even for her, that wouldn't be enough. She filled a plate with pastries and brought them out to the kitchen, setting them on the table between the drinks.

Gion heard some noise from the kitchen and headed in there. He watched Nadya for a moment before heading in and taking a seat at one of the chairs.

Watching Nadya is the only way it actually feels different here, he told Daemon thoughtfully. When I still lived here, it was Laer that would be doing this. Nadya was still a kid, herself.

Well, so he said: but in truth she was nearly marrying age already, back then.

Well... that's the flow of time for you.

Came the reply as Daemon watched along with Gion. He wondered what Nadya saw reguarly, and if it was the same as himself? Probably not he mused, or at least not wholy the same.

Nadya smiled at Gion as he sat down, and nodded satisfactorily, noticing how well the clothes fit that she had given him.

"I trust your bath was fine," she commented, opening the floor for conversation as she sat in the chair around the corner of the table from him. "And I see the clothes fit you. Are they comfortable?"

I find it actually stranger that so little has changed, rather than how much, Gion replied to Daemon stoically. I'm still not sure what to make of it ... but I suppose if we're here for a while, I'll see.

To Nadya, he smiled and nodded. He reached out and wrote with his index finger in the air just above the table, as if he were writing on the table itself, How have things been going around here?

The red glow of the runes reflected in his eyes as he looked to Nadya for the answer to his question. He thought it would be best to start out general, then probe deeper.

Nadya was delighted. For all the years he had been gone - over a decade already - his first thought was for the plantation, his parents' land.

A vision was trying to sneak its way into the corner of her mind, but she pushed it away for now. She would look at it later.

"Things here are well," she smiled at Gion. "Despite the fact that it hasn't rained since the turning of the seasons, the vineyard is doing well. The river is as high as ever, and there is more than enough for both the crops and the people here. In fact, the grapes seem to have changed for the better - we're selling as much wine as we can make, these days."

She paused as a vague thought went through her head, then added, "I'm sure you've noticed that we've hired on several new hands this year."

As Nadya spoke, Gion brushed his hand over the floating, glowing runes to make them disappear. He blinked suspiciously at her last words, and his brow furrowed thoughtfully.

Why do I have the strangest feeling she knows what I'm thinking? he asked Daemon as he wrote again over the table: I had noticed ... I noticed one in particular. Tall, lean fellow, slight slouch. What can you tell me about him?

Well... it can't be because you're predictable seeing as you didn't have that ability before and you haven't been here for a long while. Maybe she has her own suspicions?

Was the only suggestion that Daemon could come up with.

"Sheridan," Nadya nodded. "The name is appropriate - he is quite similar to what Sheridan Aldrich once was. Is it him again? It's possible, it has been well over three thousand years since Ulani killed him. But if so, then this time he is not an Aldrich, and the family has nothing to fear from him."

She paused, hesitant. How much should she tell him? After all, the future was not set in stone. Some things did not come to pass unless someone went out of their way to prevent them. Was this one of those cases?

She opted to say nothing of that matter for the present. "He has been the cause of a few small problems," she told Gion vaguely, "but nothing that could not be handled. And he is our best worker."

Gion nodded slowly, thoughtfully.

What do you think, Daemon? he asked his friend. Have I ever told you about the Sheridan she mentioned? Sheridan Aldrich?

Somehow, he got the feeling that there was more to this fellow than Nadya was telling.

From what Nadya was saying... I'm assuming that's the fellow you said Ulani chased down into that cave we once explored first leaving your home six years ago? I could be wrong... you haven't mentioned anything at all about this Sheridan...." Daemon mused thoughtfully.

Even if that was the case, a reborned person shouldn't be still holding whatever black sins or problems they held in their previous life. Though there were cases of that, Yume would say the spirit would need to be recoilice with before being allowed to move on. But he didn't know how elves worked.

Yes, that was him, Gion agreed with Daemon. Did I tell you what he did, though?

He only hoped that even if this man was the same person, reborn, that he wasn't as murderous.
PostPosted: Sat Jun 30, 2007 8:01 pm

No... you've never mentioned it.

And at the time it hadn't occured to Daemon to ask. While people get reborn all the time, it normally isn't suppose to be a problem. Reborn is often to be born with a clean slate with only the inkings of a past life, such as red threads. The only time it's ever more than that is perhaps with powers (spiritual especially) or if something so terrible happened in the previous life that the recarnation is haunted by it.

Well that might apply for this case.

Gion sighed inwardly. He killed his parents, his cousin, and his grandfather, he told Daemon dispassionately. When Ulani killed him, he was trying to kill both her and their cousin, Regan, my great-great-great ..... great-grandmother.

He lifted his eyes to Nadya once again, and, erasing the glowing letters that were still above the table, he wrote, What makes you think he's like Sheridan Aldrich?
