A small light bulb flickered inside Abacus' head when Lelaus specified the dangers the Bael faced. It would make sense that when faced with just about everything that a creature would learn how to turn invisible, right? His growing anticipation and excitement about the possibilities with a camera-wielding Bael faded when Lelaus added his doubts.

But if it's possible...

Abacus thanked the professor as soon as he finished answering his questions and immediately grabbed his camera, snagging a shot of Nata'ala before she disappeared into the ring. He stood as the rest of the class began to leave, he followed Daggart to the professor. He grinned upon hearing his friend's request, and added his own when it was his turn. "I'm a bit more interested in training myself... Would it be possible to teach me a bit more about taming, or where I could go to learn more, professor?"

Lior had been thrilled to learn about the Bael, a big grin on his face as he began to pack up his things to head out to the next class, whatever that may be. He tucked away his books and his quills, before giving a wave to Lelaus, grinning happily at him. The class had been amazing. This was one teacher he would definitely be coming to bother in the teacher's lounge, if he had the chance to. For now, he began to head out.

Ubel finished up scribbling his short-hand notes he had been taking during the class, trying to keep up with all of the questions that had been asked and the answers that had been given. He sighed in relief when he was able to give his poor, cramped hand a rest, letting his ink dry on the pages, before tucking them away and packing up, putting his notebooks and such in his satchel. He smiled at the professor, nodding slightly, before walking towards the door.

Abrid was in high spirits as he prepared for his next Class. If there was one thing in the entire world that Abrid loved more than Science, it was his students. He was a fun-loving person, of course, and very gentle and understanding by nature. But still, he always concerned himself with whether or not the students would like him. It was perhaps a combination of his natural curiosity about the truth and facts of the world, and this need for the student's love that led Abrid to often say things he shouldn't. He'd been known on more than one occassion to reveal restricted information to Zeros before, a habit that had gotten him in trouble with the Chorus on more than one occassion.

He reminded himself again to be on his best behaviour and cracked his knuckles in preparation for his magic crafting. Afterall, let it not be forgotten that despite his kindness and mild manner, he was the second greatest Seraphim in all the City. Of the 93 Caster Shells available for the Caster Guns some 34 of them were designed and invented by none other than this self-same Science Professor.

The Classroom door opened smoothly on its well-oiled hinges as a couple students trickled in and Abrid grinned. It was time for Class to begin!

Aysel paused in the doorway of the nearly-empty classroom, taking in her surroundings as well as noting her first impressions of the Professor standing before her, near the door. She gave him a polite smile and bowed her head briefly, and continued forth into the room. Taking a seat somewhere between the front of the room and the back, she silently readied her materials for note-taking and slipped her bag underneath her chair. All set for class, Aysel stared at the wall before her, waiting for her classmates to arrive and class to begin, and tried not to think at all.

Moments after Aysel had set her things before her, Sombre came skipping into the room, nearly crashing into Abrid. But, halting mere moments away from colliding with the professor, the tiny Zero did not apologize, choosing instead to stare up at him. A grin slowly made its way onto her face, and she gave a high-pitched giggle and a curtsy before dashing off to sit against the back wall. Scalpel was placed upon her lap, where she proceeded to chatter in muted tones to him, seemingly ignoring all else around her.

Abacus entered in shortly after Sombre's near-collision, glancing curiously in her direction as she ran off to claim a seat in the back. His attention then went to the walls of the room before he moved to one side of the door to allow students behind him to enter. He raised his camera and looked through it, frowned, and shrugged before moving towards a seat in the front. He took a seat near the wall, sitting down and looking through his camera towards the front of the classroom. A grin lit his face before he lowered his camera and began pulling out his note-taking materials for class.

Khamsyn slowly and cautiously entered the classroom. He did not want a repeat of his embarassing, rushed entrance into Animal Care class, especially given whom the Science professor was. He had a special reverance for all the Seraphim within the city, but Abrid was very close to the top of his hero-worship list. And from first look, less intimidating than Bellona. Glancing around the classroom, he took note of the few other students that had already arrived and chose a seat near the front this time. It was his prefered position, when he arrived on time that is. Removing what little he carried in terms of school supplies, he waited patiently for the others to arrive and the class to begin. Well... semi-patiently. He was still a fidgetty Phlegmatic after all.

Following the others down the hallway, Mat grinned as he peered into the classroom - already liking the look of it, and of Abrid. He'd enjoyed Animal Care and was in a good mood from getting to see Lelaus again. Wandering around for a minute or two, the Sanguine took a bit to look at everything in the room - almost looking as if he wanted to poke some of it to see what might happen.

Soon after Mat wandered in, Morrow followed - going immediately to choose a seat. Then he glanced around for a moment or two and pulled a sketchbook out of his bag. Focusing in on Sombre, head tilted, he smiled slightly and started to sketch her. Interesting...

Emrys came more slowly, entering the classroom after a few minutes. He still hadn't seen Arron around, and wondered where the other was. But... maybe at least this class wouldn't be quite so nerve-wracking as the last. At least there shouldn't be any strange creatures or monsters... right?

Abrid drew his Castor Gun from his robe and cocked it. "Hullo Class! I'm Professor Abrid, and this is introduction to Science." He flashed a cheery grin around at the gathered students, the caster gun resting on his shoulder a sharp contrast to his relaxed body language.
Then without warning he lifted his other hand and the lights in the room went out silently and instantly. There was a momentary pause, the biggingings of confused students murmuring their questions when all of a sudden a shot rang out across the class with a loud fizz-crack and all at once everything was lit in the inverted world of infrared.
"The Number Thirty-Five!" Abrid's voice poured out of the bright blurs of light that were their professor in this negative image against the dark. "The Infrared Flare! This shot is useful - as you all well see - by enabling all those within a tenfoot radius of the Caster to see in the dark unimpeded, and without the need for cumbersome headgear. The distance each person can see is limited to their normal range of distance in vision under normal circumstances, but those outside of the ten foot radius cannot see in the dark as you can unless they step into that outer limit of the Caster Shot's effects." Abrid moved about as he talked, watching the students for raised hands and perking his fuzzy dog ears for raised voices.

Golden eyes widened and Mat froze when the lights rather suddenly went out. He hadn't been watching Abrid at all, so he hadn't expected it, and now he just hoped that he wasn't about to run into anything in the dark. Turning carefully, he tried to orient himself again ... just as the gun went off. Jumping a bit, Mat bit back a yelp and then eyes widened. "Oh cool!" he blurted out, staring at all the infrared colors around them.

When the lights suddenly went out, Morrow bit back a curse, his pen scratching across the page randomly and likely ruining the currently sketch. Hell! Couldn't Abrid have given them some warning or something first?? The artist's eyes widened at the infrared shell as well, though ... trying immediately to commit the colors to memory so he could maybe paint it later.

For his part, Emrys did yelp when the lights went out. And then he squeaked and jumped at least a foot at the gunshot and the sudden explosion of color. Snapping eyes shut, the little Phlegm sank down into his chair and tried to somehow gain his composure back, trembling just a bit. Where was Arron, anyway....? He would have welcomed someone to cling to just now.

When the professor shot his castor gun, Abacus ducked, managed to bang his head on his desk, then straightened up with an embarrassed grin on his face. One hand rubbed his forehead while the other began to grope for his camera, stopping when the professor began explaining the shot. He rubbed his eyes, then squinted in order to try and make out the shapes.

"Professor!" He asked, his hand shooting up as a question occurred to him, "Does it require no light in order to work? What if it was shot in a lit room? Would it not work or would there be other effects?"

And here Arron had thought that this class was going to be boring! He'd just walked in and snagged a seat when all the excitement began, having come in with his friends who had also been playing a bit of...erm...accidental hooky (though it hadn't been accidental on Arron's part). "Wow..." He breathed, fingers just itching to get his hands on something like that. This was precisely his cup of tea. With a grin, he quickly switched seats, having spotted a familiar head of pale hair. "Yo, Emrys...pretty cool, eh?"

Zethyr had taken his seat in a more serene fashion than Arron, not overfond of the rebellious redhead for obvious reasons...that and...well, the fellow reminded him a bit too much of himself, before Lior. Had he really looked that ridiculous? It had been all fun and games at the time, but now...well...wisdom had its price. Rubbing indigo eyes, he had to blink repeatedly before his vision was restored. Impressive.

Now what was it Abacus had asked? Ah...good question. Leaning on his desk, he propped his head up in the palm of one hand and listened absently.

Dariyn hadn't yet reached his seat when the shot went off, and he yelped in a most undignified fashion, darting for a seat next to Morrow, into which he plopped most unceremoniously with a little whimper, cowering behind his desk. Why did everyone have to DO things like that? He found it most terrifying, and he rather hoped that he'd take a far safer profession when he was older, preferably far away from loud noises and explosions of all kinds.

Ubel had been very intrigued as he came into the room, looking Abrid from face to feet, before moving for a seat, setting his bag down. The instant he did so, the lights dropped and so did he, crouching on the floor nervously as he waited to see what would come of the shot that had been fired. As the room filtered into red, he sighed slowly, relaxed by the sound of Abrid's voice explaining to them what shell had been fired. A light, nervous, and very embarrassed chuckle came from the Melancholy as he stood slowly again, eyes still a bit wide.

Lior came into the room and passed by Zethyr, looking at him with a crooked smile before taking a seat. Things were still so awkward between the two of them... But it was something he was coming to accept at this point. He froze when the lights dropped out, keeping still and looking around slowly at the room, trying to get his eyes to adjust, then having to readjust again as the red came into the room. "Well, this seems fun," he spoke up with a grin. "Does it come in any other colors?"

Abrid's kind voice wafted over the room, attempting to calm the few startled students. "The Infrared Shot isn't terribly useful in a lit room, no." Abrid explained asnwering a question that came from Abacus' direction. "Though it might have interesting effects if fired in the presence of a nocturnal creature that can't see in a well-lit room. I shall have to study that point further..." Abrid murmured to himself, quite intrigued and a little distracted. "Unfortunately, no other colours are available. The Infrared is actually a lower wave on the light spectrum than the visible spectrum. The magic of the Caster Shot alters this light into a format that our eyes can see and comprehend."
Abrid snapped his fingers and the lights returned, slowly increasing until they were at a reasonable level of brightness. He didn't want to scald out any unsuspecting eyeballs, afterall. Once the lgihts were up he readjusted his sleeves and smiled. "Now then, Science covers a great deal of things, such as the differences of anatomy between Empyreans and Outsiders, medicines that help the Empyrean body heal, and then of course this art." He waved his Caster Gun about in the air and grinned kindly. "There are some 93 different Caster Shells currently available. They come in a few different types: Radius Shells which take an effect on a certain area of space, Shot Shells which direct themselves at a specific location or target, Blast Shells which deliver magic damage at whatever they hit, and the like. Each Shell has a rating, from 0 to 3. These ratings correspond directly to the Stage an Empyrean needs to be to legally use said Shell in duel or battle. Any questions so far?" Abrid curled his draconic whiskers up and then let them flare out again.
PostPosted: Wed Jun 11, 2008 2:16 am

Abacus blinked as the lights slowly crept back on, waiting until the lights were fully on before looking down to fiddle with his camera and turn the flash off. Losing a bit of color was a small price to pay in exchange for letting off a flash. How many would mistake it for another castor shell? It'd be better to prevent such a scene than have to suffer through it in embarrassment.

With his camera sorted out, Abacus took a quick picture of the professor, then raised his hand. "How are the shells rated? And what rating was the, ah, infrared flare was it? And is there a way to silence a caster gun? I'd imagine if. say, you needed to see in the dark in order to avoid something, had that shell, and wanted to use it without announcing your presence."

Wow, Abacus certainly asked good questions. And Mat was glad that he'd followed everyone else to class, because this was different stuff than what Abrid had talked to him about during tutoring. Not to mention it was way cooler. In a way. He almost hoped that the skeleton would make an appearance too, but he didn't know what Abrid planned.

At Abacus' last question about whether or not the sound could be silenced, Mat nodded and then tilted head thoughtfully. "And what about dampening the light it gives off when you shoot it? Wouldn't that give you away too?"

User Image

As Abrid was explaining, Morrow heard a scrambling close to him and glanced over, blinking as he saw a familiar, but currently odd-looking, form (thanks to the infrared) hiding behind a desk. Oh dear... "Psst... Dariyn..." he whispered. "S'ok, look around... it looks pretty neat.

User Image

Emrys blinked upon hearing Arron's voice suddenly and turned around too look at the other, eyeing the weird infrared colors. Whoa... that was... strange. He didn't want to say anything to make himself look too silly or scared, though, so he tried to smile back at the other. "Yea... it's ... cool," he murmured softly.
