The fire arrows flew back at Quinn, but he still did not move. They flew at a surprising speed, but were stopped when the room changed. The magic of Quinn's fire was canceled by the overwhelming strength of the room's shift. And the new setting definitely would make things more interesting.

Lina and Quinn found themselves standing just outside a desert village. There was sand as far as the eye could see, with just a few small houses in the town. An oasis with some trees was nearby, likely where the people in the village, if there had been any, got their water. And also by the Oasis, there were some trees and grass. It was the only foliage in the area.

Interesting. Quinn said to himself, Interesting.

His next attack was both helpful and detrimental. He summoned a dust devil, or what he considered a dust devil, and sent sand whirling about uncontrollably. Lina and Quinn now resided on the inside of what any one else would have considered a full fledged Tornado. With the sand going everyone, many things became more difficult. His vision was the one thing that worried him most, though. His own spell was blinding him. He would have to find some way to fix that.

[Yes...very interesting...]

Lina narrowed her eyes before using summoning up her ice abilities and combining it with the light to act as a magnifier(sp?) and effectively using it to turn the lower part of it into glass. As the rest of the sand fell in spirals, she kicked at the glass wall and sent the broken peices towards Quinn.

She wasn't trying to kill him, but that didn't mean she was going to be easy or kind.

[Good setting or bad?

And please forgive me, because this is totally going to seem like Lucine. But I promise you that it's not. This is Quinn's own way. Unlike Lucine's, Quinn's are very real.]

She wasn't trying to kill him, and he had no intention of trying to kill her. He needed a test. He had to know if he could handle himself against someone like Lina. If he could, then perhaps he was ready to move on to the next phase of his life. But first he had to know. There wasn't any getting past that.

And the glass wasn't really expected, either. With the lowest portion of the tornado having been broken, the sand now fell down around Quinn and Lina as the glass flew. It certainly made things much more difficult to handle. But he had to. The glass was too dangerous.

Thinking quickly, without words Quinn cast a spell that put what looked like a barrier in front and around him. When the flying glass made contact with the barrier, it simply returned to sand and was blown to the side. Quinn was not without a scratch though. He had not been fast enough, a fault of his own spell, and three pieces of glass made it to him before he could create his shield. One of them cut his cheek, and the other two shredded a small portion of his robes on his arms. It was infuriating to him. But he couldn't let his anger get in the way.

Quinn frowned, and mentally he cursed himself for being so slow and idiotic. Why hadn't he considered the glass? It was a perfect combination, using both the light and the ice to change the sand. He should have seen it coming a mile away. But for some reason he did not.

So perhaps I need to do this a little differently.

Quinn tossed the wand into the air and with a soft crack it disappeared. In its place, a small container containing several 'cards' with different pictures and spells upon each. He drew five, and then tossed one into the sand nearby. A bright flash of light could be seen, but then it disappeared just as quickly as it came. The sand for a mile seemed to shift at that point, only temporarily, and then stopped. Quinn had summoned something.

The first of many. He said to himself, It begins with you, Sand Worm.

Suddenly, a bulge in the sand could be seen. And it bolted in Lina's direction. Occasionally the sand would shift enough so that the back of what looked like a giant worm could be seen. And when it was finally close enough to Lina it revealed itself to be exactly that. It arched and traveled upward out of the sand, and then immediately came back down toward her. The worm itself meant to swallow her whole.

[I like the setting and its totally alright with the card thing. It the Deck of Many Things or something like that right? This was sorta expected...]

Lina had for the moment stayed in pretty much the same area of the 'room', concentrating her magic there not just because of the added light for her magic, but the advantage of knowing where a good bit of the attacks would come from. Clearly she couldn't continue to do anymore now...or could she?

To use the prism technique from before was out of the question, it took too long and the size of the sand creture would be detrimental to both Lina and Quinn's health if it broke apart. So what do to...

Lina narrowed her eyes slightly as she inevitably leapt backwards and continued to do so until she had reached the oasis. Once there, she placed herself infront of the water and quickly drew a few symbols in the air which settled into the very water and dispersed, the only clue that she had did anything at all being the added ripplinig in the water.

Now all she could do was wait until the creature showed itself once more...but just to keep things moving, she released three energy orbs, all of which turned to birds of light and shot towards Quinn, their beaks opening and sending beams of light towards him.

[Sorry for the late reply. Just trying to handle life.]

The Sand Worm crashed down into the earth where Lina had stood, missing its mark by a fair distance. She was much faster than the worm, so it was to be expected. It hit the sand and disappeared below it again, the room rumbling slightly with the worm's movements. And then the sand shifted; the worm changed direction. It was heading for Lina again, completely unaware of the spell that she had cast. Whatever it did...

Sadly, though, Sand Worms have a one track mind. It repeated itself, and rose up out of the sand, easily within striking distance, and threw itself at her. It would be the ideal time for Lina to attack, practically a written invitation if she'd ever been given one.

Damn... Quinn said to himself, No shadows out here.

It proved itself to be quite the problem. He did not have the necessary card, so his only option was to attempt to evade. Which he did, and was at least partially successful. The first bird, the one in the lead, managed to hit Quinn's arm, the energy from the light scorching the skin and leaving a burn mark. The two trails of light coming right behind the first missed when he teleported to a different portion of the room.

Another card.

He drew from his deck again. But this time he waited to summon. Controlling more than one monster at a time was dangerous, unless those monsters were already linked. And the card he drew wasn't the Beast Master. In time, he would summon again.

((Aaaah! what's happening?!))
((Uh...nothing much really. Quinn's kind of nutty, and before he possibly takes an apprenticeship with Ashra he wanted to test himself against Lina. If and only if he could handle a fight with Lina, and how he felt after he fought Lina, would determine whether or not he took the place. Does that help at all? I don't really know why...but it's what Quinn wanted to do. I'm still trying to figure it out... ))

[Um...I poofed your characters earlier into the Lotus base and they helped Awakened Moneko. Nothing is happening their except the test Quinn has asked Lina to give him. That's about it...]

She watched as the sand came closer and crouched slightly, and ready to dodge. Just a little closer... Lina waited until the beast was once again visible and attacked before activating the spell and dodging once again. The spell began to glow within the water ans where the words went the liquid flowed, making it rise and form the shape of a bird's head.

"Devour the worm that blocks me from my opponent's path, Great Bird of the Water," she said as she moved far away and watched as the bird did just as it was requested, it's beak opening as the Sand Worm jumped, effectively killing itself. It was a temporary spell of course, but a more powerful one as well, so when it began to formed back into itself, it wasn't a surprise when Lina reverted back to more simpler attacks and tuned into ice, stopping it in its tracks. What might have been a bit surprising is when the frozen bird turned and shot towards Quinn.

This gave her time to summon her blades, not her actually twin swords, but the blades of light that took the place of a wand or staff for her abilities. Raising her right sword, she slashed the air, sending a stream of light into the bird which (you guessed it) magnified the light being shot towards the man.

Powerful tenchiques do not require powerful backup plans. Lina thought as she waited for Quinn's next move. She surprised herself slightly as she felt more of a pulled on her energy than usual, making her smile grimly. I haven't used this much magic in a long time. I am Moneko's apprentice...that will change.

Defensive, perhaps?

Quinn tossed a card at the ground, and this particular card actually forced the room to change. Or, it looked like it anyway. Massive walls erupted from the sand all around him, essentially hiding him in a massive maze. The card itself was titled Labyrinth Wall. The summoning of it suited the name quite nicely.

The bird would have pulled back; there was no question in Quinn's mind as to that much. Quinn, however, still needed to get away. If the giant bird even had half a brain, it would be able to pick out Quinn's location simply by flying above the giant, maze like structure and looking to roughly where its prey had last been. So he slipped into a nearby shadow and used another card, the Wall Shadow, to carry him off into the maze. It was the only way for him to be safe.

Three cards... Quinn muttered to himself, also feeling a bit of a pull from his own magic. It was hardly there, but he could still feel it, It's been too long since I've had to fight like this.

The third card he played actually led to two more, although it was through the magic of the card rather than his own. Regardless of where she was in comparison to the maze, Lina would have been able to hear wonderfully serene flute music. (The music carried well enough that it very possibly could have been heard outside the room. Anyone too concerned probably would have taken notice instantly.) The flute music was accompanied by two very loud, and very violent dragon roars.

The two dragons appeared on the far side of the maze, away from the bird. The first was had a serpent like state to it. Its body was long and slender, with silvery blue scales covering it from head to tail. Its wings didn't look like it should be able to hold the dragon aloft, but it stayed.

The second dragon was entirely black, its large wings enough to intimidate most any creature. Of the two, it was the more powerful creature. It was obvious just by looking at its fiery, red eyes. It gave a low growl, and the first dragon flew forward, above the maze and toward the bird.

The fight had just become much more violent than was originally expected.

Lina was glad that Quinn didn't see the expression on her face at the sound of those dragons. After the initial look of surprise, excitement crept through her calm exterior. She rarely had to fight against anyone with magic alone and even less with someone with such skill. She was sure the violence would only rise... But that would take a toll on their bodies...what would it do to the child inside her?

The excitement was wiped clean as this thought came into her mind. She would not let anything be done to her child. I'm sorry Quinn, but we'll have to cut this short... she thought as she used both of her blades of light to cut into the sand walls and ran down the pathway, making symbols with the sand as she did so.

Meanwhile, the bird took off into the air as expected and flew towards the dragons making its own battle cry as it shot ice shard towards the black beast with a flap of its wings.

Lina turned on a dime as she ran, continuing to make symbols of light within the walls. It didn't seem as if she was trying to find Quinn but that was because she wasn't. She was following the movements of the bird, waiting for it to clash into the black dragon. As for the second dragon that was liying in wait...let it come.

Remus did indeed hear the music and it brought him to the surface of his thoughts. It was nothing though, compared to the dull roar that reached him next. He moved away from the room and quickly towards the sound of the noise in a slightly worried curiosity.

As the dragon known only as Serpent Night clashed with the giant bird, teeth bared and claws attacking and ripping at as much ice as possible, the first of the two Dragons watched Lina. The bigger, black dragon never took his eyes off her. It was almost like the dragon was thinking, wondering just what it was that she was doing. It was contemplating its options.

And at about the same time, Quinn drew another card. He could feel himself losing control of the Labyrinth Walls all around, and so he figured that he needed to move on. But he also caught wind of Lina's own personal thought. His name was attached so it was much easier to grab on to. She was worried about her child, which was, indeed, understandable. Perhaps he did need to cut things short. Remus wasn't going to be happy as it was.

The next spell that he pulled from the deck was a powerful, dangerous one. It was known as Raigeki. It was a powerful spell, designed to destroy everything on the field.

"Perhaps I am not ready to learn Balance..." Quinn said to himself.

He cast the spell, at the same time creating a protective barrier around Lina. (He wouldn't have her damaged by such a thing.) When the spell was enacted, six massive bolts of Lightning came falling out of the sky. The first to fall were Lina's Ice Bird and the Serpent Night Dragon. They were high enough in the sky that they were hit first, and almost instantly were they vaporized. The larger, Black dragon did its best out of instinct to avoid the oncoming bolt but failed and it to was destroyed.

How does a lightning bolt destroy sand walls you ask? It turns them into glass, and then the glass itself simply shatters. That's what happened to the remaining Labyrinth Walls. It left both Quinn and Lina exposed. The bolt that came down on Lina split above her head and was grounded out, coming to the ground in two separate streams. Quinn, however, didn't have the luxury of a shield. It took all his energy to protect Lina, and he took the full force of the magical lightning.

It probably should have vaporized him. By all means it should have, seeing as it was able to completely destroy two full sized dragons. But for some reason, it didn't... All the energy from Raigeki coursed through Quinn's body for a split second before being sucked into his Silver Pocket watch that he had examined right before the match.

After the deed was done, he promptly passed out. No one, not even the eldest of the Rith-Kiran, had ever taken a Raigeki Bolt directly and survived. Quinn had just done that. Why he survived, he did not know. But one thing he was sure of. He didn't have the energy to continue.

[BDaG, go ahead and change the room back so that we can continue the story. I figured we didn't need to go much farther than that.]
PostPosted: Mon Oct 01, 2007 8:11 am

[Alright...but you can just call me Lyra if you want lol]

Lina's surprise from the barrier was outweighted by her horror at seeing the bolt strike Quinn down, and when the barrier disappeared, she ran over to Quinn as the room slowly returned to normal, "Quinn...Quinn!"

Almost on cue, the doctors ran inside, moving past Remus as fast as they could without knocking him over. Everyone had heard the ruckus and only an idiot would have tried to stop that fight from the outside. The doctors waited until it was over for they would be needed...of course they were right.

The house itself cancelled out his spells, unlocking the doors and gave a silent message to Moneko in an instant. Two white orbs looked towards the Lotus base at the same time Ashra's golden glanced that way, his usual smirk becoming a grin, "I wonder who won..."

Moneko narrowed her eyes and sent them both to the Lotus base.

But that was just it, no one had been victorious in the match. Looking for a clear cut winner was not Quinn's goal. He was looking for information. He was looking for something, although not even he was really sure what. And now he wasn't exactly in the best of states either. Now that the energy had passed, the burns were starting to show through. And the burns were just about everywhere. His body was doing everything that it could to stop the spreading of the burns and the problems caused by Raigeki, but it could only work so fast.

Quinn was as helpless as a child, just like he had been when he first went to see his teacher. Just like he had been when he had lost his family. Or thought he lost them, at the very least...

-------------------------------------------------------------

A ways off in the world, from the highest balcony of a large home, emerald eyes turned toward Signet City. A look of worry crossed the female's face, a look of worry bizarrely mixed with happiness and awe. And for the first time in many years, a smile broke across her face.

"Quinn is alive." The woman said, doing her best to control her silky white hair in the ongoing breeze, "Stefan, my brother is alive. I thought I had lost him..."

"Mira," Stefan wrapped his arms around his wife from behind, "if he is alive, you should go to him. It has been too long since you've seen him."

"Now is not the time, Stefan." Mira sighed, turning about in her husband's arms so that she could face him, "That little brother of mine ran for the hills when he was very young and absorbed himself in magic. Yule will call for us when the time is right. You should know that by now."

Stefan didn't argue. Although he did not understand his wife's words all the time, they never failed her. They would wait until the time was right, and then they would travel. They would make their way across the land, through the unknown. They would find Quinn Siddel, because Mira so badly wanted to see her youngest sibling, her favorite brother, her only family.
