Sasha squinted as a small wave crashed over her. In the distance she swore she could see Wash, which was good because at that point, ******** everyone else. He was the only one she'd save.
Well. Otto too. And Clerise.
BUT THAT WAS IT.

In an instant, Smith went from treading water at the top of one wave, to being sucked under by the next. Above him were other hunters fighting the ocean and Smith had to wait for the right moment to force his body up to the surface to take in a ragged breath. However he only had seconds before he had to struggle to overcome another wave to reach the safety of the portal.

Lucky responded by hacking up seawater and shouting something that was lost to the next wave crashing down around them. But he was clinging to Kat like a barnacle.

Nothing Yet While everyone was busy drowning and doggy-paddling like losers, Mimsy made a graceful escape with her twin, because favoritism and of course she did. A wave of cold water slapped her back to reality, which was actually great because things were getting really weird as Mimsy was at the part where her and her twin were riding on a unicorn together while cutting their hair with butterflies and flying whales singing in the background-
- The cold numbing water could do terrors to the body from shock.
Also apparently not all the spiders were dead as one skittered out of her hair, having survived, and then proceeded to spider-swim away.

She wasn't at all entirely sure what it was that Lucky was trying to say to her, but she figured right now it wasn't important. With Lucky holding on, she proceeded on swimming back to the portal with him.

She was sinking, he could see the color of her gun glowing through the water- that meant she wasn't unconscious. "J-just hold on... aah!" Another wave crashed against him and he nearly lost his flotation device.

But the longer she was in the water, the harder it was to actually move her limbs. A hard, unforgiving wave slammed into her body, and she sunk down under the water, where things were calmer. There, she tried to swim for a moment, but she couldn't keep her head under for long. Her vision swam and she burst out, gasping for air and trying to see straight again.
No, keeping her brain warm seemed important right now.

Today had been a day filled with automatic reactions. Reactions to events that laid out of his control, slipping out of his grip like a wet bar of soap. He had bit the bullet and dealt with being fitted, being touched in a way far too intimate for his liking. He had sat at dinner with a huge number of others, with waiters lingering in and out of his personal space. He had murmured Russian lullabies to Mimsy in an attempt to bring her headspace back down from the stratosphere. He had followed her to the door, had fought with her, had stayed with her.
As the ship's hull gave its final creaks, Kostya knew he would stay with her now-- it was not even a question. Fully on autopilot, he grabbed Mimsy by the arm and yanked her close with a grip tighter than a pair of pliers. The cold sank into his bones like wintertime back home, the water raising to dangerous levels in an instant. A portal flashed to life in the distance.
"Hold. Tight."
Purely on autopilot, Kostya began to swim.

He ignored that feeling as he just tried to swim forward.

He hoped his gems and chains were good for another shot.

Balthazar's first thought was merely, 'oh no, not again,' wheras Clerise's was a series of jumbled words, lost in a froth of adrenaline fuelled misery. Panic gripped her around the heart, hooking into her ventricles and her aortas just as perfectly as they had in that dream, with black sand and black water flooding into her lungs. It pumped through her veins as sure as blood, because she had done this before.
She had nearly drowned before.
Please, no, she thought, and the water that crashed over her body did not relent. I want to be worth something. Balthazar's shield was an embrace around her, covering her from head to toe, and objectively she knew he was keeping the worst of the cold from her, but it was a shock to the system all the same.
'I'm here,' he hissed, covering her mind's eye with visions of light and heat and warmth, of Clarice's face and a motorcycle and a road that stretched for a millennia it was so long. 'She needs you.'
With perfunctory movements, the Life huntress began to swim, keeping her head above the briny waters.
I don't want to be alone here.
'You aren't.'
