Desmond" It's fine, don't worry about it." In reality, one pancake was a pretty small number. He had a pretty big plate and he could always get more if he wanted. Lia was really, really nice about that. It was one of the things he liked about the Azumarill. " My name's Desmond, but I wouldn't really say I'm on a team. I owe the current guildmaster of Rebirth a favour and he asked for my help." He was sort of in a team in the sense that he was living with Southern Cross, but he wasn't really a member in the typical sense. He didn't do any missions or any guild work really... he just did what Tolin asked him to. Solaris (or the guild of the sun as a whole) had absolutely no sway or control over his actions. " Like I said, I'm here to help with the fighting."

ii Aku xixixJack Aku nodded as the Lugia, who she now knew was named Desmond, explained how he wasn't really on a team. She was about to ask what he meant by owing a favor, but Jack beat her to the punch,
"YOU owe someone else a favor? That seems kind of far fetched."
Aku glared at her partner, and then looked back up to Desmond, curious if he'd answer or just send them on their way, or get angry. If she was a legendary and had just been spoken to that way, she might be pretty upset for the amount of disrespect. Jack only looked to Aku, and then back to Desmond.
"I'd also like to pay you back for the pancake some day. I know it seems small and worthless to you, but it meant a lot to me, and anyone who helps take care of Aku deserves something in return."
Aku was taken aback by Jack's statement, and mouthed out the word 'what?' and let her jaw drop as her eyes scanned him. Who was this Minccino in front of her? He was beginning to change.

Desmond" It's a bit of a far fetched story. Let's just say he had a choice and he decided not to take it." The kids didn't really need to know the reality behind that choice. Aside from Serrin, no one at the guilds knew that Tolin had spared his life and he genuinely preferred it that way. The idea of that story getting out wasn't exactly appealing. Well... that little Mew probably knew, but there was nothing Desmond could do about that. The fork and knife that Desmond had left to rest on his own plate resumed their spin and dance as they moved back to cutting and serving the pancakes to the Lugia. They came to a pause after leaving his mouth. Desmond quietly stared at the pair for a moment as he chewed before swallowing and speaking. " If you want to pay me back, don't get involved in the fighting. You aren't strong enough to do anything. If we go to attack them, stay behind. If they come to attack us, run and hide. That's the best thing you can do... anything else and you'll be a hindrance to the guild members strong enough to survive." If either of them got injured, that didn't just mean they were out of the fight, it meant that someone would have to save them too. That meant one legitimately useful person would be too busy saving them to actually fight... not to mention any multitude of people who took notice and were distracted by the injuries. The fork and knife continued spinning for a moment as the Lugia took another bite before adding one last thing. " That would be the best way to protect your little girlfriend too."

ii Aku xixixJack Jack was busy thinking on what Desmond had said about the choice, and staring blankly at the fork and knife dance. So little effort, it seemed. Why couldn't he be a psychic type? He had a feeling Desmond's response would be to hide and stay out of the fight, which is exactly what he didn't want.
"I will get strong enough to fight and survive, you'll see. I'll prove my worth. If I'm in this guild, and I fight to protect, why would I not fight to protect my home and everyone in it?"
Jack had spoken gently and pretty laid back like, he didn't want to upset the legendary, nor did he want to speak out of term. He was more reassuring himself and Aku that he could handle things, and not have to run away. Although keeping Aku safe in the team room or something while he went to battle sounded better to him, he'd just have to wait and see how far Aku and him progressed before making any rash decisions. Even if he couldn't fight now, he'd train and become strong enough to help as soon as he could. Aku was taken aback at the next bit of what Desmond said, calling her his little girlfriend. Jack acted the same as always, and did not really respond to Desmond's comment.
"I'm not little..."
Although Aku was tiny, compared to a Lugia or not, she was.

Desmond" Maybe." Desmond's fork glided simply up to his mouth. He took the piece of pancake off it and swallowed it quickly. " But you won't be able to get strong enough fast enough. Not yet." The intricate motions behind the cutlery had disappeared. Instead of the dancing twirls and elegant motions, they shifted to simple straightforward motions. Up, down, cut, up, down, cut... Evidently, the Lugia had only been doing it to occupy his attention while the pancakes occupied his stomach. He thought for a moment on what he could say. Realistically, he didn't care that much about their lives... they were just two random kids he had met while he was having a snack. But all the same, if he was going to make the argument he was going to make it well. " Or do you think you're strong enough to fight me?" Desmond let the question linger in the air as the cutlery did. They simply hung, motionless as he looked down at the Minccino. " If I'm careless the people we're fighting are strong enough to kill me. Do you think you can take me on?" The comment was designed to scare the crap out of the kids and it would probably do the job.

ii Aku xixixJack Aku was beginning to get a bit shaky. Jack looked at her, and all of his focus switched. Was she nervous? Was she getting sick? He padded over to her and put an arm around her, but she shook him off, and looked up at the Lugia. She was a little bit frustrated, it seemed.
"Why are you so indifferent to everything? I don't understand, I just don't. Protecting is not important to you? Seems all you care about is survival, and only your own. You're only here to pay back that favor, aren't you? What ab-"
Jack had grabbed her and pulled her back, she had started out fine, but her anxiety had begun to leak through into her speech, and on to her facial expression. He kept a paw on her arm, and kept her behind him, facing away.
"Please excuse her, she suffers anxiety attacks from time to time. I do not think I am currently strong enough to fight you. I do think I can get there, and so can Aku. We have little time to train, but you should be encouraging us to do so, not scaring us and putting us down. This is our home now, and fighting to protect it is part of the job description. It's what we signed up for. If they are strong enough to kill you, have we gone and asked anyone else for help?"
Jack wondered just how many pancakes the beast had eaten, and figured he should be eating better if he thought he might be killed in battle. A good meal is always good for energy, isn't it? He'd keep Aku healthy, so he wouldn't have to worry about stomach aches or cramps on the field. Although energy was probably more important.

DesmondDesmond listened to Aku's little breakdown while being only half interested. She was having a panic attack which... was actually sort of what he was trying to do. It was a few steps too far though. It would've been best if he had just managed to scare the crap out of them and then extract a promise that they wouldn't go near the fighting for a little while, but... The Lugia closed his eyes for a few moments in thought and then re-opened them. " Two Mewtwo, one Raikou, one Suicune, one Lugia, one Mew, a god, one Garchomp on par with semi-legendaries and a host of other people. That's how many pokemon have answered the call of the guilds. I don't care if you fight to protect your guild and your friends. Go ahead and train. But this conflict is so far beyond you you won't even be able to comprehend how vast the difference in strength is." Really... they were just kids. The scale of the conflict was just... far too massive for young children. " If you go out now, you will die. Choose your battles."

ii Aku xixixJack Jack kept Aku behind him, and his stance was getting pretty defensive. Not because he wanted to challenge the legendary, he was just getting a bit more worried about his partner.
"I would never try and join the fighting if I knew we didn't even stand a chance. I would never put Aku's life in that much danger. It's just upsetting that you're trying to scare us, and not encouraging us. Shouldn't you be telling us to stay out of the fight to train until we can join? Instead of just hiding?"
Jack didn't like how useless the legendary was making him feel. He could get stronger and would, but the Lugia only cared about keeping them hidden. And it seemed like he only wanted this in order to make sure no one got in the way of the fight.
Aku steadied her breathing behind Jack, slowly relaxing and calming down.

DesmondSo the reason he was so upset was that he felt like he was getting put down? Good god, the kid really couldn't take the advice could he? " Go ahead and train. Train all you like. If you have the potential and the mind, someday you might even be able to fight legendaries on equal ground." Well... that was probably a lie. He didn't know much about either of their species, but it was pretty obvious that neither of them were combat powerhouses by nature. The chances of them being able to stand up against any legendary were slim to none. It wasn't impossible though. " Training isn't the problem though. If this were a normal problem, you would already be fine. Right now, we're sitting at the end of a war. A lot of people have died and a lot more will before it ends. If you want to survive, stay hidden and stay safe." Really, that was all it came down to. Their training and efforts would be meaningless if they died, and die they would if they tried to fight.

ii Aku xixixJack Aku had calmed down a considerable amount. She was a bit upset, but it wasn't nearly as visible anymore. She turned around and her head faced the legendary, but her eyes fixated on Desmond's utensils.
"We will stay safe, so long as you try to do the same. Is there anything we can do to help? Like helping with chores around the guilds or delivering things during the war?"
Jack looked at his partner, and knew that keeping Aku out of the war was very, very important. Unlike him, she could not evolve, and would always be the size that she was. She might get stronger, but going up against enemies like the Lugia was describing was, in the end, very unlikely. He shouldn't be fighting against someone who knew what he was talking about, he should only be learning. He looked up to Desmond, hoping they weren't as useless as he suggested they were.
"Everyone does still need to eat..."

DesmondIt was nice that she wished for his safety and wanted to do something, even knowing how weak she was, but... " I'll be fine. There's not many people capable of fighting me." That was a lie. Eridanus would be able to kill him and with the powers of the pendant Desmond wouldn't be able to inflict an ounce of lasting harm. His odds of surviving this war were... slim. He didn't like it, but that was his debt. He owed his life. That had been the agreement. He would help with anything... Any one thing. He'd give up his life if he had to. It had been the turning point in his long, long life as a Lugia... he would hold himself to that. Just as Tolin was... The Scyther had already told him what the bottom line was. "You aren't as valuable as the people you're protecting"... though not in so many words. Well... at least it was for a good cause. " If you want to help, keep doing your job as a member. Take work, find friends. Make your team stronger. I don't know how this is going to end, but it won't be easy. I'm sure the guilds will have lots to do. That's when you'll be needed. Not now, but later." It was more a consolation than anything. The hard truth is that they were useless right now... the best they could hope to do is survive. When the dust settled, though, the guild would need exploration teams capable of continuing the work. Chances are they would lose a lot of people... having a few healthy teams would be advantageous since the guild needed to take on work to stay afloat. In response to Jack's comment, the Lugia's cutlery once again began it's slow spin and dance.

ii Aku xixixJack Aku nodded with confidence. She was glad to hear the Lugia being a bit more positive, versus all that other negative babble that only struck fear within the Pokemon's hearts, which would really do them no good in the long run. Aku wished he had just said all that in the beginning. Jack did too apparently, because he was looking a bit brighter himself. Or perhaps that was just because Aku seemed happy again.
"You can count on us to do all of that."
Jack didn't want to seem naive or ignorant, so did not completely say what he felt, which was that he would bend himself backwards to make a team strong enough to help protect the guild. So far saying things like that only got negative responses from Desmond, and he didn't want Aku to be affected.

DesmondThe two of them seemed happy now, whatever. That was fine. It didn't really matter. He didn't really mind their presence, but he did mind whining and senseless arguing. They were just kids, after all. Kids that knew very little about what was going on. Meh, whatever, all the same. More than anything he just wanted to get back to his food. The best way to do that would be to make the not-so-subtle implication that they should be eating. " You should start eating before it gets cold." Taking his own words as a cue, Desmond began eating again as the fork and knife moved back and forth through the air. He didn't really care whether or not they ate with him, he just wanted to start eating them before they cooled off too much. He hated cold pancakes. He hated them so much. Not because they were bad, but because they were an insult to fresh ones.

Crack!Team Azalea appeared in a flash in the courtyard. The shock of the sudden teleportation seems to have finally woken Melissa up. It was dark, but light flooded into the courtyard from the halls surrounding it. The walls were high and sheer, but Atra knew how versatile Pokemon could be. Just look at himself! It was highly possible that someone who had infiltrated the castle would have the means of scaling or bypassing such walls. "Hope, stay with Melissa and scan the area for Pokemon." Atra ordered the Jirachi. Hope was a powerful psychic, but her powers are still finicky after all she had spent to heal Atra. It was best not to ask of her to do a full psychic scan of the area. "What are you going to do?" Melissa asked, wishing that she had brought her Orbs with her. Deeper into the courtyard away from the light of the halls she wouldn't be able to see very well. "I'm going to take a look at the shadows. I wouldn't put it beyond some thieves to know Shadow Sneak." Hopefully if they did know how to shadow-walk, they weren't good enough to escape the castle with it too fast. And with that Atra seemed to fade into the darkness. Well, and that just left- Crack!A bright light enveloped Melissa and she squinted up to see Hope holding something shedding an incredible amount of light. The Jirachi's ribbons came forward to wrap around it, dimming it somewhat to a pale yellow. "I thought you needed the light Mel, so I got your Luminous orb. Now let's start searching."Melissa nodded wordlessly. She was still surprised at how mature Hope had suddenly become after waking up...it didn't seem so long ago that the Jirachi still behaved like a small child.
