":Asleep? I was not asleep!" He furrowed his brow, and held his head with one hand, his head suddenly aching. He mounted a horse, and kicked it into a slow trot.

"Let's just get moving." Issildia said with a halfhearted laugh at Archer's statement as she mounted the light colored charger that she had ridden out of the Ryera encampment on.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~"My Lord, the troops from the Dalken and the Eradonian Pass have arrived, the count is up to twenty thousand men, all armed and prepared to deal with Keirdon's forces...Should I give the word?" asked the bowed form of the Larovian Commander that was facing Reinsen Nevar.
"Twenty thousand...that should be enough to break Keirdon's lines, yes give the word we attack at dusk." breathed Reinsen darkly. His expression almost one of glee as he waved the larovian commander away.
"More than enough to grant the fall of Nicholas Remos...more than enough" Reinsen said to himself as he turned to his advisors as they bent over a map of Keirdon's main city...Faltora...~
Archer sighed. "Yes, for sure." He closed his eyes to compensate for the migraine coming upon him. He began thnking deep thoughts, dark thoughts. He suddenly felt rage, at the sight of Reinsen Nevar.
Marley stood up again wiping the sweat from his brow as a man in green approached "O aye, what can a' do for you sirrah?" The man gulped "Master Smith Marley, the country of Kingdom, and it's king both recognize that we have not been most...um...appreciative of you in the past." Marley burst out with laughter "Well that's certainly one way a' puttin' it! Like moldy bread in the street, no matter how much ye sugar coat it no one but a bum would eat it." The man in green cocked an eyebrow before continuing "Well, the king would like to...Give you his apologies for the past, because, um..." Marley went back to hammering a pike he had been working on "O, because he WANTS something, aye? 'O dear I am but right sorry fer banishing you from your home with pitchforks at yer heels, but could you come and pretty please save me stupid pink a**?' Bah! You tell that pig of a man that he can right well blow it out his ears." The man wringed the paper in his hands "It's...Important?" Marley grabbed the pike he was working on and swung it two inches from the man's face "Listen here ye git! Ye get out of my forge immediately afore I shove this singin' pike right down yer gullet! I ain't doin a damn thing fer Kierdon I don't care if Nevar himself is beating at yer gates with..with...10,000 SOLDIERS!!"
Streak Lightening
PostPosted: Fri Mar 31, 2006 10:49 am
Streak, although awake, was in a half-asleep state. He felt like nodding off, yet couldn't manage to do it. He just wanted to sleep, even on the horse, but couldn't and didn't know why. Was it guilt, stress, side-effects from being brought back from the dead? He didn't know. At one point he actually fell off his horse but, as he was at the back, he managed to get on before anyone noticed.
As they rode the sun made it's daily arc through the skies, reaching it's summit at noon then beginning to descend. Just at it's bright rays graced the western horizon the sharp pinnacle of the stone tower Sergalth, the unyielding guard turret on the western most wall that surrounded the city of Faltora could be seen.
Most of the city itself was hidden behind thick granite walls that surrounded Faltora, but the red bricks and black flecked marble that the city's buildings were composed of could be seen adorning the taller of the buildings that peeked over the wall.
A slight smile crossed Issildia's face at the sight of the proud city but her expression deepened with sullen dread as her lingering gaze turned towards the northern grassy rise that stood little under a mile from the city.
A deep shadow seemed to cover the vast grassy knoll and Issildia assumed it to be nothing more than the shade of a passing cloud until as they drew closer she realized what waited only a short distance outside Faltora's gates.
"He's gathered almost his entire army." she whispered in fear as she began to make out the first lines of the larovian soldiers that stood atop the rise.
These first few lines were all that she could see but behind them the land was dark with the forms of heavily armed warriors standing in their ranks.
The army was incredibly vast, half a mile behind it was it's main camp where still more soldiers resided.
"We must get to the city!" Issildia said quickly as she absently brought her left hand to rest on her blade Sumar. "Though I fear that we may not be able to get within it's walls...not with such a threat waiting for a moment to strike." she added worriedly as she hastened her horse's pace.
Khastur drew his sword as he rode behind Issildia on her horse, "We can't let anyone breach the city walls, we must hold them hard; but Issildia if things get too heavy we have to leave do you understand? Things are too important now to play hero, we have to stay alive and out of enemy clutches even if it means losing Faltora to the enemy-- Can you do this?"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The man in green looked behind him in worry, "Actually sir, he is at the gates....and there's an estimation of..over 20,000." Marley looked back to the man in green "Then this city will fall, there ain't nothing I can do about it lad-- you'd do best to take yer family and run yerself."
The man in green tightened his fists "I knew it-- just some b*****d hermit who refuses to come out of his hole-- you're useless! You're just going to sit here and watch the entire world burn until they find you, aren't you?" Marley looked back to his pike and the roaring fire, as the man in green nodded "Don't come out then, see if I care....Worthless oaf." The man in green huddled out and went back to Faltora where a hurried and frantic raising of arms was being held. Marley picked up the pike and dipped it in a bucket of water, letting out a deep hiss. Bringing it out again, he let it clatter onto a table and sat down on an old wooden stool. "There's nothing I can do about it, no sense throwing down my life for a country that turned it's back on me, right? Hmm?" He looked to an old sword on the wall he had made a long time ago when he dabbled in magic-- it was in a series of four swords he made; two of them were purchased; those two he didn't care for much, more trouble than their worth..Though the buyer seemed ecstatic at his finding...Bet that didn't last long. The third he simply had to destroy, it was far too evil and was luring many foul beasts to his home through it's wicked aura. The last one was truly a work of art, but so simple it looked like it could have belogned to a peasant rather than a hero. This sword, as the other three had the power of communication and cognescent intelligence. "H'eiroim siln nu art losdo s'erolhim aerosil daer partre, verusen reart en tu kilnores alto s'erohilm ."
Roughly translated it was a metaphor meaning "If thieves break into a house and rob a home, the mouse may be able to hide-- but will soon die as there is no more food in the house. And if a house burns, the mouse may hide in the cellar, but will soon die when he finds he has no way to escape the ruins." Marley spat on the ground "Ae ain't no mouse, and this is my own home-- I don't live in theirs, and I never will."
Issildia looked back at him, "Yes..." she said with difficulty, then remaining silent before speaking again, "There is little we can do for Faltora...if they open the gates for us it will be an invitation for Larovia to begin an attack." she paused once more before continuing, her words were stated with slow deliberation. "Perhaps we should bypass the city and go with our best bet, and go to the Cavern's of Eska ...they bore into the only semblance of mountains in this part of Keirdon."
As Issildia said this she looked off towards the Larovian army knowing well that Faltora would not stand a chance, even Keirdon's full army numbered little over ten thousand. The city itself would only house perhaps four or five thousand of that number if they were lucky.
"We can't change Faltora's fate...but if we can stop my father, then we can change the fate of this realm...hopefully for the better." she said as she tore her gaze away from the Larovian forces. "And if this weapon-smith can aid us in this then he must be found as soon as possible."
Khastur nodded, "Agreed, if we end up fighting Nevar again it will just be the same as last time, we should get to the blacksmith before Nevar's forces break through and get him first."
"Alright" said Issildia grimly as she sent the horse she rose off to the northeast away from the city and towards the Caverns of Eska.
Though as they bolted away Issildia's gaze lingered on the city, knowing that now they had to get back before the defenses fell, and their time was already fading.
Archer was asleep on the horse, unconsciously clinging to the horse. His dreams were haunted again, but he couldn't wake by his own spell. Eventually he woke, within the hour, and screamed slightly, at their change of scenery, and because of the nightmares. He stopped, and turned back slightly. "You continue... I am afraid to continue with you, for good reason I fear even more."
Issildia slowed the pace of the horse at Archer's words,
"What is wrong Archer?We can't remain here long, this place will be swarming with soldiers all to soon."
"My spells seem to not be working, and I do not feel at my best, I think if I am here to help defend, I will be much more use."The horse cantered, and twitched, it felt nervous. "I will have to stay anyway, this city will fall without help, Go Issildia Khastur and Streak, leave me with their protection, I won't fail you here for sure." He smiled lightly, betraying the great feeling of dread in his gut.
Never Seen Before
"My spells seem to not be working, and I do not feel at my best, I think if I am here to help defend, I will be much more use."The horse cantered, and twitched, it felt nervous. "I will have to stay anyway, this city will fall without help, Go Issildia Khastur and Streak, leave me with their protection, I won't fail you here for sure." He smiled lightly, betraying the great feeling of dread in his gut.
"Archer." said Issildia slowly with a faux tone of concern in her voice, but this was banished with her next rather rigid words. "Don't be a fool, there are far to many soldiers for even you to contend with. If we did stay and fight, either we would all be killed or we would not even be able to kill enough of the Larovian's to aid Keirdon. Your best chance along with Keirdon's is if we are able to find this blade that holds the power to contend with Reinsen. Now come on." she said, turning the horse and signaling it into an easy lope, her patience growing short with all that was taking place. Already they were leaving Faltora to fend for itself, and now Archer wished to remain behind, it was all absolute foolishness to her and she was exhausted in having to deal with it since the fall of Anier. "Please Archer." she said tightly, "Let's just get this done."
