Though she wasn't sure how a post sign was going to help her get anywhere, examining trees was the only real lead she had for how to get out of this maze of a forest.
Hesitant at first, S.cargo made slow steps along a line of trees. What was she supposed to be looking for?
Open your eyes, it's right there.
She stopped in front of the first tree when he spoke out of nowhere. Resisting the urge to roll her eyes at the vague but not unexpected advice, she just bit her tongue and stared a little harder until..
"Oh!" This tree had.. signs?

There was a chuckle in the back of her mind and she sighed, bringing up a hand to rub at her temples. She was glad someone thought this was funny.

Already off inspecting trees, the mouse didn't notice she had, even momentarily, unsettled her new friend. Getting him out of the pile was a very serious matter, so she concentrated on that instead and shrugged at his question. "Oh yanno..." Did she have to say it? Very quietly she whispered, "It means little rabbit." before she pulled a large branch off him. Satisfied that he was alright, she stepped back to allow him room to get back on his feet. A tilted smile did greet him at his complaint and she pulled a twig off his shoulder. "At least you didn't lose any HP! That's really what counts..." Loosing HP this early in the game would really be the worst!
"No, the stripey one! This one!" Once again the girl shook the tree, delighted to once more receive a reward for helping. "Awww c'mon! These trees are super funny!" She hurried back to him and cupped one hand around her mouth to whisper to him. "Don't make fun of the trees, they might get mad!" And one wouldn't want to hurt their feelings, after all!

Cait Sidhe did a sort of eeny-meeny-miney-moe to pick one of the assorted arboreal subjects given that the woods was kind of made up of them. "My mother told me to pick the very best one and you are it!" he pointed directly to a large bluish oak. He was pretty sure it was an oak.
TREE
The second tree is a wide tree and doesn't look too happy to see you. It crosses its arms. "I don't think so, the last people who were here were terribly mean about it. Terribly, terribly mean and it just won't do anymore. If you come any closer I will have to resort to violence I mean it! Don't come any closer!"
"I'm not gonna hurt you," Cait Sidhe promised, holding his hands up. "But I've gotta search five trees. I'll just take a look at you, and I'll move on. 'Kay?" He took a small step forward-- --and was smacked straight into next Tuesday. "Whoa!" he cried indignantly, rubbing the left side of his face where his vision was exploding with sunbursts. "I didn't even do anything!" A beeping noise from his pocket caught his attention, and Cait Sidhe fished it out. It was a yellow card-looking thingy that read:
5: You reach a willow tree and you can barely see its eyes through the giant slew of willows. It shakes its head furiously, leaves rain down, and refuses you let you go any closer, batting you with its leaves. Ow!
The next tree wiped any trace of a smile off of his face, waiting until he'd climbed halfway up it before walloping him with its leaves and branches.
Shyduck struggled free, incredibly grateful for the little boost of speed being a White Rabbit gave him as he high-tailed it out of there.

Defeated by the nonsensical hoard of signs, S.cargo crossed her arms over her chest defensively and strolled carefully through another set of trees. The second one she stopped to examine was simply random.
She leaned forward a bit as she found nothing extraordinary about the tree at first, then jerked back to her full height when it suddenly.. spoke.

"Does everything here speak?" She muttered quickly under her breath before she actually gave the inquiry a thought. As she was working it out over and over again in her mind, caught in an endless loop, the ever-present know-it-all began to chirp up.
Dilly!, a pause, no. Wait. Nilly?
There was a frustrated groaning noise that had S.cargo agreeing sympathetically. It just didn't make any sense.
"I can't say that I know, I don't understand."

"But that's not fair!" She protested at first, but then caught herself. Of course she wasn't the better tree, she wasn't even a tree!
But you could be anything if you put your mind to it! The following laughter did not make her believe his words, but she was smiling from his good mood even as she moved on to the next tree.

Grumbling, Cait Sidhe decided it would be best to move on to another tree.
TREE

The next tree he he came to wasn't much of a tree at all, and unlike the other ones it didn't talk or do much of anything at all. It just sort of sat there. Not convinced, Shyduck climbed on top of it, and jumped on it a few times. Nothing happened, and he wasn't entirely sure what he expected to happen but he jumped a couple more times anyway, just because it was fun.

Inferno liked gaming as much as the next kid but he'd never dreamed (ha, ha. that's punny) he'd be a live player, if you could call this live. And really, he never seemed to think twice about his actions, if he thought about them at all, so it was no surprise that he'd downed the vial that said drink me without hesitation.
Naturally, it resulted in him landing in some zone with a frightening amount of trees and ground that moved. The latter caught him so off-guard that he immediately lost his balance and went crashing into the forest floor. It was then, and only then, that he became acutely aware of the maroon coat draping his body.
To which he promptly began freaking out.
He was on his feet in a matter of second, hands flapping and patting down his body with his fingers grasping at the fabric like it was going to lite on fire. (Which really, given the state of his normal body it would have, but no not in this dreamscape.) It was then that he realized his body wasn't emitting it's usual flush of heat AND that he was wearing more than just the coat.
He was wearing a bright red shirt, blue pants, some weird gold belt things, black gloves and worst of all, shoes. Oh! Couldn't forget the matching maroon hat adorning his head, that was probably just as uncomfortable as the shoes.
Oooookay, so this was different, but it was a game so it figured that he was disguised. Didn't mean it made him any less uncomfortable.
He stumbled forward, towards the talking post and the exclamation point, and stared at it wide-eyed while it gave him direction.
He played games before, but none quite like this. That was okay though, because he was adaptable! He'd figure it all out in no time!
"Explore, okay I can DEFINITELY do that," he proclaimed proudly, a wide toothy grin spreading across the orange skin of his avatar's face. "Examine some trees, maybe chat them up. Oh yeah. Can definitely do that," he rambled on, spinning on his heel and bounding off to the nearest interesting looking tree.

With some hesitance, Cait Sidhe looked around for another tree. Maybe one that looked friendlier. Or, you know, one with stripes. Cait Sidhe snicked, "Stripes? Really? Man, this place is goofy."
TREE
"I beg your pardon," says the tree with stripes, "but I am not silly at all. In here everything is possible and anything is impossible and therefore a tree with stripes is completely within everything and anything." Its stripes change colours. "Now, give me a good, good shake. I want to get some more colour out. Shake me really well, if you do I'll reward you."
"Oh," Cait Sidhe blushed. He'd forgotten trees could talk here. "Uh, sorry. Didn't mean to hurt your feelings. It's a nice look for you, but..." He took on a look of deep concentration (slightly marred by the fact his tongue was sticking out one side of his mouth), and shook the tree hard. The tree's stripes flashed and settled on rich reds and golds. "That," Cait Sidhe said, pointing his finger at the tree, "looks real good."
The tree laughed, and spit out a fragment that landed on Cait Sidhe's chest and bounced into his hands. Immediately, he know this was the sort of thing he was looking for. "Hey, thanks!"
You reach a long, slender tree and it looks quite ordinary. "Hello," says the long slender tree. "I have a small question. I have two friends, Dilly, Milly, and Nilly. Nilly is taller than Dilly, but shorter than me. Dilly is shorter than Milly but taller than me. How tall am I?"
If you answer as truthfully as you can the tree says "No, why, I do not think that's the answer at all. You are very wrong."
If you tell them you do not know the tree gloats. "Why, I didn't think you would. It proves I am the better tree." But you are not a tree at all!
Shyduck wasn't much for riddles, in fact he usually just stumbled into puzzles and things happened rather than any actual intellectual prowess on his part. But he was an avid 'tryer' and he thought long and hard over the tree's question. In the end he settled for standing next to it, using himself as a measurement.
"Well, you're definitely taller than five-foot-six," he laughed, but unlike with the striped tree, this time he was laughing alone. The slender tree didn't look very happy at all, and promptly informed him that he was wrong.

10: You reach a tree and on top of it is a smiling set of teeth. Not the tree itself, just on top of it. "You seem a little lost", says the smiling set of teeth, "but not to worry. Everyone's quite lost here. I hope you find your way, there's so much more for you to get lost in."
Loverboy pursed his lips up at the pair of teeth shining down at him. They were mocking in their pearly glory. He felt a little as though someone had broken a record over his head, and merely turned away with an unpleasant 'huff.'
He was too irritated to panic about the repition of this particular event, and very seriously considered tearing the Wayfinder out of the ground.
Instead, he headed towards the next tree...

S.cargo wandered a little away after the second tree, perplexed by how little sense anything around her was making. She seemed almost lost in her mind before she stopped, blocked by a large tree.
The third tree crossed it's arms and she took a wary step backward..

She laughed in disbelief as she was goaded on - so much for taking his advice. Almost as a reminder, the ground beneath her left foot shifted over three inches to the right and resettled.
She took a step around and continued on, leaving the grumpy tree behind.

Maybe the second tree would be less pathetic. It was, in fact, very much less pathetic. It seemed to be daring her, with many rows of teeth. "I'll bite," she joked, "what are you hiding?"
She reached a hand out, and was surprised to find that it was a fragment. "This should come in handy," she said, with a nod.

A little farther down her path and S.cargo was feeling a little unnerved. Every step she was taking made the earth shift around unpredictably. Really, how did anyone get around in this place?
When she reached the fourth tree, she was relieved and promptly planted her booty down for a much needed time-out.
