Palem had yet to explore the areas that made of her... home base? She wasn't sure what to really call it. And for some reason, she started at a very steep cliff. She stared up and gulped.
And so, she began her climb from the bottom. It was really unsteady and she was sure she was to trip several times as she traveled up the ramps and pathways. But somehow she managed to get up relatively unscathed.

A bridge, why did this seem familiar. Palem didn't like the look of it at all, so thin was the thing and so deep was the cavern that it was on top of. Oh, please don't look down.
The girl grabbed the rope, closed her eyes and inched her away across. And somehow made her way across.

Of course that couldn't be the end of it, and the top provided nothing but a beautiful looking field of flowers and pumpkins and perhaps even a picnic. Not even getting near the finale of this thing caused her nerves to get the best of her.
There was something with her and she could feel it. Hazy birds at fist, that's what she thought they were but they god closer. And were very angry. Harpies or some distorted version of them.
Palem squeaked and fired her gun.

Please leave me alone, please leave me alone. She silently pleaded as they circled around her, dive bombing her with ther claws and beaks.
She fired at the lot of them wildly, eyes closed. She managed a pretty damn good hit.

It was like a dart with no obstacles in its path except her, Palem yelped loudly as it came at her. No time to reload, she smacked it with the broadside of her weapon.

"LEAVE ME ALONE!" She screamed, the stutter not present in her boiling frustration.
She just wanted to get to the top! She just wanted to be done with this climb, she just wanted it to be over with. And they wouldn't leave her alone to finish something she was so close to actually accomplishing on her own, on her own will power and not by the direct instruction by one of the Goddesses (true, this still seemed like a task but she had chosen to do it.
Palem took aim, and fired another shot and finally rid herself of the harpies.

The top. She had made it. Palem wanted to lay down the instant she was there, relieved and so happy. She had made it, she had done it! She didn't care that that feeling of being watched was still lingering in the air (that just meant they could see what she had done).
She took the blessing, pleased with herself. Hopefully this feeling would last.

Round two. After the aching agony of the Spire, World's Edge was a place of welcome peace. He thought again about the fog, and what the fog might be made of: of warriors dissipating into tendrils of mist.
He looked out over the vast expanse and then, stoically, he squared his shoulders and set up the rickety staircase. As before, the ascent was slow, painstaking, and uneventful.
