not true lions can they though can only purr on the exhale unlike most house cats that can purr breathing in and out. I am pretty shore other big cats can to but the only one i herd anything about was the lion.

*smiles* ^-^ actually they aren't REALLY perring. they make wat's known as a 'gruffing' noise, named after the way that the noise sounds like 'gruff, gruff, gruff.......' what they're really doing is blowing air ruffly through the back of their mouth and making the noise resonate and project through the nose. Where as perring is when air is blown ruffly and rattles a small bone in the back of a cat's throat just below the vocal cords that magnify the sound.
