Nah, they're different. Multiclassing has a bunch of stupid restrictions that aren't in Dual classing.
I don't really understand it, myself, but I do know that Multiclassing SUCKS in comparison.
Though, from what I've heard, dual classing does tend to overpower characters a bit.

Well, in 2E, a multiclassed character was a class itself. Like a Fighter/Mage was an actual class. The experience gain would be divided by two and added to each class. So, while you'd have advantages of both classes, you wouldn't be a full fighter or a full mage. As in the experience cap or level cap would allow only so much. So instead of being a level 40 fighter or level 31 mage you'd be a level twenty something fighter and mage which is still powerful. You'd gain high level abilities when you reach a combined total of a few million experience. I don't remember the number. Five million maybe? Multiclassing is available to non humans only.
Dualclassing is for humans only. It's very customizable and doesn't leave you with a base kit class. So, if I wanted to be an x level Kensai and a y level mage instead of a plain old Fighter/Mage, I'd take that. Your initial class can be a kit. However, when you dual class, you can't use the abilities of your original class until your second class surpasses the level of your first class at which point you regain the abilities of your old class. After dualclassing you can never put any more levels into your first class.

0_0' this si honestly the first time I've heard dual classing like that....we always sorta treated it like multicalssing.... I wanna check 3.0 now to make sure we weren't playing wrong... although, odds say we were...but I agree, the new system sounds...dumb.

3.5 is pretty well rounded, I'd say.
Whoo! DMed for the first time today! I'm not sure I did that well, though >.>

3.5 is scarcely balanced. Rangers, while stronger, still don't offer much, sorcerers are still laughable next to their wizard counterparts, and the Paladin, which Gary Gygax created so long ago to make a legitimate reason to be lawful good, sucks just as much a** as it ever has.
Don't forget the diplomacy problem I mentioned.
Hostile to Indifferent DC is 25. Not base 25, not 25 + something. It's 25. The game becomes meaningless past tenth level if you have any Charisma based character in your party. Why? Because he can talk a horde of monsters into just letting him past, or at least opening up an opportunity for your rogue to coup de gras whatever the main target is.

Jarlaxle Baenre Who were the players? Newbies? I know the question's not directed at me but: OH MY GOD! I'm trying to train a group of 10 newbs and it HURTS! I faked sick just so I wouldn't have to play tomorrow! T crying T I'm such a wimp. Seriously though, does anybody know how to ween a group of 10 roughly 16 yr olds off of WoW? Hell does anyone know how to ween ANYBODY off of WoW? MMORPG's are ruining my RPG circles! gonk

A.) There is a rehabilitation center for gamers in Amsterdam. Take the kiddies there.
B.) When training new players I usually have them play a campaign using the SPECIAL system, then I kick them to D&D.

Strength Perception Endurance Charisma Intelligence Agility Luck
It's an alternate system kind of based off of D&D but much easier to pick up in my opinion. It gives you a huge amount of freedom but the fact that you don't have classes as your guide can make it a tad difficult to train your character. You get skills and skill points, mana and so forth.
Certain games have that system as well but the one that does the best job with it is the Fallout series by Black Isle Studios.

One's a newbie. The others vary from experienced to pretty inexperienced. One's my DM in a different campaign xD
In any case...it's kinda frightening.

Training newbs is rather hard. O.o
I tried to help someone do that by being the Paladin leader man...so I could make people obey me or get smitted. XD
