"Cool," she gasped quietly.
Evidently nervousness and fear were very closely related and it took skill to determine the true difference while observing people. A person may bite their nails in a situation that's unfamiliar to them. Absently chewing their bottom lip or anything easily accessible to the mouth can be a sign of lack of understanding or fear of being the center of attention. Fidgeting was also another great sign of nerves; it appeared that it's a persons way of distancing themselves from what's happening around them. Even a usually calm person will tense up or clench a fist when frightened. They also find ways to avoid looking directly at the source of their fear.
This was really good stuff to know. It also explained how her uncle always knew when she was nervous. She chewed on her hair almost as soon as he came into a room. It was funny, large men made her uneasy. Her father and brother were lean and slender, no bigger than the average woman aside from height. Her uncle was a big and beefy man that she feared would one day crush her with one of his hugs. She made a mental note to work on that as she turned the page and read the beginning of the next section.
Happiness and Excitement.

"This is weird...happiness and excitement are also related? Hmm..." she muttered as she reviewed what she'd just read.
When happy or excited a person may smile, a lot. They'd bounce on their toes, skip, find anyway to move around while keeping a bright expression on their faces. Dancing and other spontaneous movement, a sense of being unable to keep still or 'trembling' with joy. While younger people can show these feeling unabashedly, older people may feel uncomfortable showing excitement openly. They may go for more subdued actions, mainly smiling and talking in a rushed manner.
"Okay...so my parents are just constantly happy? But they act like little kids, I've seen dad skip home before. Maybe I'll just aske when I get home."
The next chapter was very interesting to her. Lying and deception.

"Well, this only helps me with people that aren't really good at being deceptive... Oh well, its a start."
Anyone well versed in etiquette, or just very used to lying, will likely not display any of these signs which are very good giveaways to spotting a lie. Like nervousness and fear, someone lying to you will likely try to avoid eye contact. Stuttering is common, but beware as this could also be nerves as well. In romantic situations, it isn't strange for a person to blush or stutter. One of the best ways to tell a lie is by watching the other person's eyes. When a person is telling a story and trying to remember details that have escaped them for the moment, they have a tendency to look to the right. This is a natural reaction, if there is not clear way to explain it. Most commonly, the assumption among scientists is the fact that memory is controlled by the left side of the brain, which effects the right side of the body. Perhaps it's the control of the left side of the brain that leads the body to look right. It is still very uncertain. But what is certain is that if a person looks to the left while trying to 'remember' a fact, they are actually trying to think up something feasible to tell you. Always double check the facts, especially if the source is looking left.
Now she'd moved on to the extras in the book. Rules of thumb and things to know.

"That's doesn't seem right..." she grumbled at what she'd just read.
Girls are far more likely to display signs of discomfort in social situations than boys.
As a rule when a group of boys gathers, they appear very comfortable even if this is not the case. Usually despite feeling immense pressure from peers, boys simply have an easier time of overcoming it and appearing comfortable so as not to appear weak or unequal in front of other boys. Very few young men will consciously admit to weakness or a lack of knowledge that they are led to believe should be universal.
Girls, being the overtly inquisitive creatures that they are, usually use their lack of knowledge to gain more knowledge. Though their embarrassment at being out of the loop in a group will show for quite some time, they can be a bit more determined to openly seek knowledge.
Perhaps this is because being uninformed or weak in most ways is not considered a mark against girl, where as they are a point of near constant ridicule for boys. Based on society's views, this seems unlikely to change, barring the actions of those that dare to defy conformity.
"That seems sort of true, but it still sucks... Okay, what's the in the next part," Kai mused as she continued.

"Huh?!"
Okay this part wasn't adding up either... She took another drink of water and fanned herself with her hand before sitting back up and laying the book on her lap. The heat was starting to bother her and she tried to tune it out so she could give the book her full attention.

She scratched her head fiercely and wondered if maybe she wasn't familiar with the words that she was reading, but that couldn't be right. Koichi had even said that the book shouldn't be too much of a challenge for her. It wasn't the words, it was the fact that there was a lot of content to go through. And she just kept going back over the material that she'd already learned in her head. After all that section on lying was just...cool. Taking a deep breath and releasing it to calm down and put her mind on what was directly in front of her, she began to read the section again.

Kai blushed profusely as she finally comprehended what she was reading. So there was a difference between the emo and the 'romantic' person.
"Oh my!" she thought as she looked over what she'd read again.
Hands in the pockets shows nervousness or reluctance. But don't write it off so easily, pay very close attention to what those hands and fingers are doing. While fingers in with thumbs out shows curiosity and even interest, fingers out with thumbs in (an action commonly used by guys, though girls do it as well.) is a sure sign that there's something less than 'platonic' on their minds. Note how this action highlights certain parts that aren't meant to be on display. This is also a sign of extreme confidence and insight to an assertive nature. If a person displays this particular sign with a relaxed posture, possibly leaning against a wall and wearing a comfortable [removed](or a predatory one), be careful. This is a personality that not everyone can meet on an equal ground.
There was a small note scribbled in the margin on this page.
Don't even think about it, Koi. Recognize it and keep your distance, but I don't want to see you trying anything like this until you're sixteen or I swear I'll make you sorry for it.
Her brows furrowed as she realized that it was Koichi's handwriting.
"Tch...Spoilsport."
She turned on to the next section titled: What are you saying?

Kai glared at the book angrily. It must have been the sun. The pages were a very bright white that almost burned in her eyes and obscured the text. She poured a little water and leaned back, letting it fall into her closed eyes, wash back over her temples and seep into her hair, mingling with the sweat. It was refreshing and felt pretty good. She remained in that position and smiled as a heavy wind chose that moment to sweep over her, stiffening as it also carried the sound of a large explosion.
"Somebody's hard at it," she muttered.
She really wanted to go back to her physical training, but if she wanted to start learning her mother's jutsu, she would need to get to a smarter and wiser. Everything wasn't strength and she knew that. But it was fun being able to run as fast as she could following her physical training or punch a rock and only take a fraction of the pain and damage that she used to. But she had to keep things well rounded and she'd spent a good chunk of the past two years strengthening her body. It was time to focus more on her mind. Besides, these books were giving her all kinds of useful information. She may even be able to catch her brother at something.
She straightened up and looked back to the book, the water having dried in the wind and began reading yet again.

"That's not exactly good news..."
This section talked all about recognizing your own body language and realizing it. This was the key to showing only what you wanted to show.
"I already knew about the hair thing. But I also tense up when I'm scared. I grit my teeth when I'm angry. Wow, I do a lot..."
It was strange to stop and think, really think on every reaction that she knew about. She realized that there wasn't too much that she did, but she'd been so deep in the habits of doing them, that she was surprised to figure out that she did so much. Then she thought about all the times her brother teased her when he ticked her off or saw her reaction to certain things that he did.
Was he doing it to study her? Was he calling her on it to make her aware? She shook her head and groaned in irritation.
"Is he trying to drive me nuts or is he trying to help me?" she yelled.
As she thought about it she briefly considered it being both. Kai decided that she'd definitely go back to taijutsu soon, so she'd be fairly sure that she'd knock him one good time before he probably hauled off on her tail. But it would be worth it just to make him pay for his twisted experiments at her expense. She wasn't a lab rat!
Fortunately the title of the next chapter gave her a bit of hope.
Saying what you want.

"Hah, this isn't so bad! I should be able to do this, eventually?"
The key to displaying only what you want others to see lies in your own ability to control yourself and quickly adapt to situations that unfold around you. This takes preparation and sometimes direct experience. Preparation can be as easy as imagining a situation and acting out your response. The first trick is to think of how you'd normally react. Then observe what you would or wouldn't want people to see in you and think of ways to cut it out, keep these new reactions in mind. An easy way to do this is to think of someone that you look up to or just a person whose response would be more favorable than yours and emulate them. This involves a lot of imagination, acting and plenty of sources to study.
She decided it was nearly time to go back to the village and went on to the last chapter: A word of caution.

Though she thought that she had all she needed, it wasn't in her nature to leave a book unfinished. But the last section didn't really add up to her even as she found more scribbling in the margin, no doubt from her brother.
Cover to cover pay attention, concept is nothing without total comprehension. You get this you can get jutsu, easy. Well...this is you, so maybe not easy.
She stuck her tongue out at the book easily envisioning her brothers' smug face and possible the grin as he wrote his little 'notes of wisdom'.
"Such a jerk..."

"Oh, well I guess that makes sense..." she supposed as she closed up the book and took a moment to have a last drink and think over what she'd read.
These are all guidelines and should be observed and not taken as the one absolute truth. There will be exceptions to every rule, but with careful observation, the true reaction can usually be gaged. The information in this book is best when utilized with consideration of human nature and the fact that every person is individual and unique. A good way to bolster the skills you have just picked up is to spend a good amount of time studying people in day-to-day situations and yourself.
And a very special note, a very polite person can be one of the best actors you will ever come across. Study the finer points of etiquette and you'll be amazed at what you'll be able to see just from a casual glance, and what you can give away with one.
Kai stood and stretched, feeling the first pangs of hunger. She quickly gathered her things and repacked her back pack. Turning towards Iwa, she wondered about her parents and just how much they knew about body language. She made a mental note to ask them, though her mother may be far more forthcoming than her father.
It didn't really matter at the moment, her mom had mentioned ramen with chicken tonight and she didn't want to miss a chance at getting it hot.

A quick gust of wind blew up on the badlands. It was an unusual wind considering the winds were all in one direction opposing this one. The wind was strong and harsh but sudden all at once. It whipped up a devilous whirlwind of dust and sand but soon there was nothing but silence. In the wake of the sand was Haruko. She began to look over the area looking for the students. On her back was a huge gorud almost bigger than her whole body filled with something sinister and evil.

Reck dashed through the plain of large rocks jumping and zagging past them until he made it to the area of the badlands. He jumped ontop of a large boulder lying in the field and stood up looking around for Haruko and inafew seconds he saw her in the distance but something was on her back. He crouched down and bided his muscles then jumped towards Haruko flying high through the air over her general area. When he was almost right over her, he set himself into a spin and fell near Haruko landing on his feet and one hand then looked up slightly at her and smiled pointing to her. "Am I late...Haruko? And whats that thing on your back?"

Izumi felt Reck blow past him but still continued at his leisurely pace. After all he was going to get there eventually, why rush? And the longer he took the more time he had to read his book. As he approached several minutes later he closed his book and examined Haruko, particularly the gourd on her back. He silently wondered what could be inside it as he stood and waited for instructions.
