Ash's eyes picked up the light of the lone torch and cast it back in blue hues as she met Evil's lupine gaze. She sat determinedly on the lower of the two rocks, propping her bare feet against the rock's irregular face. This place felt old. Even the damp cavern air she breathed felt laden with memories. This place has history. She remembered Dad's deep rumble as he led the family on some hiking expedition or other to old burial mounds and Celtic tombs. Y' c'n feel it, can't ye, Ash love? And when she was younger she wouldn't understand but would nod vigorously just so she could listen to his lilting, musical rumble and her mother's soft laugh filling in after.

"I need this," Aislin lilted by way of answer, curling one hand around the edge of the cool rock on which she sat. The sensitive pads of her fingers traced the irregular contours, but that was her only movement that might have belied her apprehension at this ritual.

Don't ask me to explain, for I don't know that I can find the words to say. Ash wondered if Evil ever wanted to know the reason for joining the pack. Surely it was a very private matter.

((All right, extreme pain. in the next post you should pass out and I'lll cut the connection. after I post you can wake up. ^^ ))

Evil nodded. All right, brace yourself. She said. She pricked the pads on her paws with her claws. She held up Ash's hands, and did the same to the pads of her fingers. Her muscles tensed, then she joined their fingertips together.

White pain flashed in Evil's head, exploding across her senses. Though she had done this many times, it still hurt horribly. She gritted her teeth and began to count silently in her head. Evil's Lycanthrope blood began to transfer with Ash's, starting the process.

(Got it ^.^)

Aislinn watched curiously as Evil pierced the tips of her fingers, drawing small beads of blood that sparkled darkly in the dim light like macabre rubies. She had done the same to herself and then held their blood together, her powerful wolf paw joined to Ash's comparatively fragile human hand. Ash had a moment to understand the ritual as binding her by blood.

But only a moment.

In the next, a pain, so unlike anything she had felt before, radiated from her fingertips, spreading through her body like wildfire. Her whole body stiffened, instinctively arching away from the source of the pain, yet some point of Ash's stubborn will forced her hands to maintain the contact with Evil's paws. She couldn't breath, couldn't think, and the cave and it's dim light fell away, replaced by a startling darkness that lapped at the edges of her consciousness.

Don't y' fret, Ash love. 'S not but a pinch.

She was five again and about to get her first piercings: the orthodox type-- one bright diamond stud in each earlobe. She was with her mother and father, sitting bravely in the chair at the tattoo and piercing parlor her parents frequented. She had been jumping out of her skin for this, but the site of the piercing gun was enough to make her resolve waver.

Here, now-- hold me hand. Her tiny hand was dwarfed by her father's enormous one.

Look here, Ash. Her mother's musical voice captured her attention and the attendant took the opportunity to pierce first one ear and then the other. And then it was over and her parents had a bit of a laugh at her expense.

Back in the cave, she was not five. There was no hand to hold. And the absolute agony was threatening her sanity. She couldn't help but scream passionately, releasing all of her loneliness and pain in one heart-wrenching sound as tears coursed from overbright, manically-blue eyes.

And then, quite abruptly, those eyes were blank. Her eyelids fluttered closed and she crumpled, nearly falling into Evil's furry form as darkness folded mercifully over her. Unconsciousness dulled the awful pain and quieted her mind as Evil's blood went to work, changing her as it would.

After the connection had been broke (They usually fainted at just the right time) Evil sat back for a moment. She licked her paw pads, the wounds healing with the minor healing abilities her Werewolf saliva had. She stood, shaking herself. A little drift of black hairs cascaded down from her and she looked hatefully at them. She usually lost a little bit of fur after an induction. No one would ever notice it but it still annoyed her. She stepped down off the rock, standing next to Ash, waiting patiently.

She wondered briefly how she would turn out. Some became crazed killers with their inability to control the Lycan's instincts and urges. These, unfortunately, she had to put down. Most could be beaten into submission. She always wanted to go over and comfort the new Pup, but it was tradition that Alpha show the young one that she was the leader. Besides, she couldn't take the chance of having one of them latch onto her throat while she was giving them a comforting nuzzle.

So, Evil played the role, standing next to Ash, her eyes glowing in the flickering gloom of the room. Her tail was held up and her shoulders straight, radiating the presence of an Alpha.

Even in her unconsciousness, the pain of Ash's changing body was inescapable. Her skin was hot, burning against the cool earth of the cave, and her eyes wandered restlessly behind fevered eyelids. Her outstretched hand dug into the earth, seeking a comforting hand that wasn't there, and a agonized moan escaped her.

It was her hands that changed first. New tissue split the skin, growing into semi-retractable claws with lethally sharp edges. Her fingers grew together, fusing and forming a wolf's pad and silvery fur sprouted from her skin, rippling over her slight tan and growing up her arm at startling speed. Her skeleton was changing, shifting and morphing as her joints popped into a more lupine alignment, ribcage narrowing, spine shifting to narrow, powerful hips. These changes were accompanied by a symphony of tearing cloth as her body grew out of the proportions of her shinigami attire. The ruined uniformed dropped away as the change continued. A muzzle grew to sport a dark, wet nose and sharp, powerful teeth descended form her elongated jaws. Pointed ears grew from hair that was slowly shifting to silver tones. The glossy fur slipped free of its confining braids, moving down her back to cover her new, sleek werewolf form.

Half way through the change, Aislinn's eyes popped back open, glowing more luminously than ever. The pupils contracted then dilated as her mind scrabbled to make sense of the changes in sensory perception. She was becoming overwhelmed by the amount of information flowing in from newly-sensitive olfactory glands and far-seeing eyes. She shivered, losing her tenuous grip on her were form. She phased back for an instant, fur retracting and leaving a very frightened, very naked girl with bright wolf eyes.

She writhed, arching as she phased back to the silver wolf. Panicked eyes found Evil's and she went to cry for help but emitted something that was half whimper, half snarl. She surged to her feet--or paws-- still phasing between girl and wolf with no ability to retain either shape. Half out of her mind with panic and hurt, she lashed out, snapping her jaws dangerously close to Evil, snarling viciously as she fought to hold one form over the other.

Kasen watched the two enter the cave and simply stood there as he waited for the moment he would recognize the moment the initiation had begun. A sound of ripping clothes rung through his sensitive ears as he crouched down to listen to the beating sound of Ash's heart change beat. Kasen put on his hood and stood up as he wasn't going to change into human form and leave like last time, he was going to stay and wait instead of going off uncontrollably away and returning without even thinking. He looked at Ryou and sighed a bit as he sat and started to scratch his ears.

His eyes pointed upward as he sensed the pain intensifying and he sat there like a loyal dog, never to interrupt the ceremony and to never interrupt the tradition, flicking his tail around he waited patiently on the ground nearly lying on the ground as if he was a large dog waiting for its owner as his ears were listening to the events happening around him.

Evil's eyes narrowed. she felt her heart torn in two as this new pup went through such agony. Despite her fierce looking appearance Evil had strong maternal instincts. everyone she inducted was like a child to her, since, in fact, they were connected by blood. When Ash snapped out at her Evil brought one paw up and drove it into her chest, forcing her to the ground. She placed the other paw on the back of her neck. This was a sensitive spot for both Humans and Lycanthropes, but especially Lycans. It made them freeze, going limp. Her tail was held stiffly out behind her but she carried a determined look on her face, her ears tilted forward to wait until Ash completed her transformation.

Aislinn yelped as Evil struck her, driving her to the ground. She shifted back to her human form, chest heaving as she tried to regain the breath that had been knocked out of her lungs. She phased again, once, twice, lips pulled back into a snarl as she tried to get herself under control. She shivered as Evil clamped a paw on the back of her neck. Her body felt frozen and her tensed muscles relaxed. The transformation completed itself a final time and Ash the wolf, fur glowing silver in the light of the torch, lay exhausted on the cave floor. Her panting subsided slowly, eyes gradually losing their panic and closing as her body relaxed.

((There's nothing like...sexual...in this gesture. Wolves just get comfort from touch. So...Just giving you a heads up in case you formed any weird ideas. XD ))

Evil's eyes softened when Ash finally calmed down. She took her paws off of her neck and chest and tilted her ears forward checking Ash over to make sure she was all right. Despite the long amount of time it took to transform, she seemed all right. Evil nuzzeled her with her snout along her neck, giving her some comfort after the rough transformation. It seemed for now that she would be okay, but that didn't stop her from being worried about this new Pup. She was also letting Ash get to know the Pack's scent so she could be more comfortable with it and recognize it in the future.

(Lo! What do you take me for? A sex fiend? XD I didn't take it... um... sexually... XD)

Instinctively, Ash raised her head, snout angled towards the wet nose that riffled through the fur of her throat. She opened her eyes and blearily brushed her muzzle against the jaw of the the enormous black wolf above her. An unfamiliar, though comforting scent filled her nose. It had a sharp tang like newly-broken grass, but there was a sort of wild undertone that made her nose tingle. Her tail swished and began to beat against the cool, packed earth of the cave floor. She knew-- though she couldn't explain how she knew-- that this scent was her pack. Now that she was aware of it, she could sense a strong connection with the forest around her and the wolves that resided within.

She blinked and her bright blue eyes cleared a bit. She easily recognized the wolf above her: her alpha, Evil-- the distinction of rank was, again, entirely instinctual, and she realized she could not have disobeyed Evil even if she had wanted to. Outside, she could sense and smell two other wolves with the same scent that marked them as pack. My family.

It hit her, at that point, that this was what she had been missing since she'd arrived in Soul Society. It was the reason she thought of her parents so often and with so much pain. She missed them terribly and missed that sense of belonging somewhere. That was why she'd sought the wolves out and why she had agree to join their pack. There was no closer unit than a wolf pack and it did much to dull the loneliness she was so prone to feeling.

Ash's lips pulled back in a wolfy grin, ears swiveling forward as she regained her composure. She didn't like showing such weakness, especially in front of someone who was both her captain and now pack. The more she did to come back to herself, the more she could pretend that she had neither acknowledged-- or even experienced-- the difficulty or pain of transformation. Privately, she knew that would never be the case.

How do I look? She meant to say, but her newly-shaped sound box produced an odd woofling noise that didn't sound remotely like human speech. Her eyes crinkled in amusement, recalling how Evil's voice had resonated in her mind before the change.

How do I look? She tried again, attempting to somehow "aim" her thoughts at Evil. She felt a bit silly, like she was talking to herself, but if it was customary to speak this way, she supposed she had better to catch on.

((Okay, you just never know how people will take things...So I wanted to make sure. >.< Sorry for the late replies I keep giving, I'm getting so much homework lately...*grumbles* ))

Evil gave her own wolfy smile and wagged her tail. You look like Pack. And you're very articulate for your first mind-words, which is good. She said cheerfully, giving Ash's neck one more rub with her muzzle, glad she was starting to adjust. It wouldn't be so painful the next time she transformed. It got to the point where it was like changing clothes rather than skins, but she had been doing this for hundreds of years, so she knew all sorts of tricks. but right now she knew the new pup must be hungry. She didn't seem savage or aggressive, maybe a little jittery, but that was normal for the first time change. It would take some adjustment from being a human all your life to suddenly being a Lycan. She had been born with it so she could only guess by the reactions of the pups.

She turned around, trotting over to one of the walls. It was best for them to taste fresh meat first, so they would get used to it. While wolves didn't really 'taste' their food, merely ripping and swallowing, Lycans could. She retrieved from a small cubby a rabbit she had caught not too long ago. She tried to go out and get a little something for the new pups, but each would be different. Some needed to be made to hunt first while others could handle a little bite before trying themselves. She picked up the plump rabbit in her jaws and deposited it in front of Ash, her eyes shining.

Eat this. I know you must be hungry. We can get more later and then you can learn to hunt.
She said.

(Bah... Don't sweat it XD)

Ash picked herself up, an unfamiliar motion that was sort of a half-roll before she was up on all fours. The extra set of legs on the ground felt a bit odd. She was certainly steady enough, but walking was probably going to take a bit of effort. Luckily, Evil had deposited what looked to be a whole rabbit in front of her, so there was no walking involved.

She nosed it cautiously, ready for the gamey, roadkill smell she would have generally associated with dead rabbits. The scent that filled her nose was something else entirely. It was sharp and rich and made her stomach grumble with hunger. Now that Evil mentioned it, she was ravenous.

A whole coney for me? Ash thought, directing her words somehow outwards towards the rest of the wolves. Though we generally cook 'em... This she thought in the privacy of her own mind. Or rather, she had intended it to be a private thought, but then the mechanics of this communication were foreign to her and she couldn't quite be sure if the rest of the Pack heard that thought or not.

She took a dainty n** at its ample stomach, sharp teeth easily cleaving through fur and fragile skin. A few drops of blood wet her tongue and her eyes grew darker and more feral. Planting her front paws on the dead animal, she tore into its stomach, bolting mouthfuls of meat and staining her muzzle with blood. Oddly, her fur rippled, phasing between human skin and wolf pelt, as though she was having trouble hanging onto her form. Ash herself didn't notice the changes and continued to devour the rabbit until all that remained was a small bloodstain that quickly soaked into the earth.

She looked up, licking her muzzle to clean it of the last drops of blood. That hit the spot, she commented, ears pricked forwards, eyes sparkling with amusement and satisfaction.

((Short post, sorry. Had a busy day. >.< ))

Evil thumped her tail lightly on the stone floor once, nodding a little. I'm glad it did. But now you should learn how to hunt for yourself so you can help the pack when we go on expeditions. She said, getting onto her paws. With a flick of her tail she trotted outside back into the twilight of the forest. It was starting to get dark, but there was still some daylight hours left. Her ears flicked forward when she saw Kasen and Ryou, turning her head to look back at Ash to introduce her newly inducted self.

(Don't worry about it XD)

Understanding Evil's motions, Aislinn followed her into the waning sunlight that filtered through the leaves of the trees above. Walking wasn't nearly the chore she'd first taken it to be. If she didn't think too much about it, instinct directed her legs in the proper motions.

The dappled sunlight was warm against her fur and she raised her head, eyes gleaming as she shook herself out from snout to tail. Now that she was a fully-inducted lycanthrope, she could feel the connections that existed between herself and the other wolves: the bonds that designated them as Pack.

Still, she felt unusually shy to meet them in her wolf form, and she stuck close to Evil's side, like a silvery shadow. Her ears were still pricked forwards in interest, but the movement of her tail wasn't nearly so lively as before.

(Sorry, laptop pretty much died so I can't post as much as I would normally)

Kasen looked at the new werewolf that was Ash, and gave a smile as the light of the world brighten as if setting a stage on this event for the new lycan. "Well, how does it feel to be someplace you truly belong?" Kasen asked as he stood up with his claws drooped low as and he was nearly ready to pounce as if he was about to hunt, but he kept his position looking at Aislinn.

He smelled the air that surrounded them, he looked at the sky, he took every image, every sight, everything in the world at this moment, for this was the time and sight of a new member of their pack, their family.
