I like the look of all of that piece except for the measure or two before measure 30. ninja

Our BD gives us lots of music all the time. Then he just narrows stuff down. I'm really hoping we don't have to play one of the pieces, since trumpets hardly play at all...We have some pretty cool stuff this time, though.

question, is there really any difference between playing the flugelhorn and trumpet?

That "Heros, Lost and the Fallen" peice looks just about as hard as Galatic Empires. In that song, there is no easy part in Galatic Empires. Even the third trumpet part has insane runs. Of course every single concert peice that my band plays is hard.

Does anyone play Sing Sing Sing? (A variations of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, I think). It's freakin' hard, I've been practicing for like ever but the speed is 224 bpm!!! AHH It's fun tho lol, from what I can get.

Good question! Seriously, though, the only difference is in the quality of sound; the flugelhorn's is closer to a low brass instrument and less of the ridiculously bright trumpet sound. It's also a bit bigger, and slightly heavier, but not so much as a mellophone or baritone. With regards to fingerings, though, it's exactly the same, plays in the same register as the trumpet, everything.

I know this because last year, our college BD decided that all 3rd trumpets were going to play flugelhorns instead of trumpets. biggrin

I'm currently learning how to play trumpet... well, cornet, because I'm working on the school's cornet (it doesn't have any trumpets, our school is so freakin' POOR stressed All it has is a couple of the super-expensive low intruments and one piccolo.) The trumpet section of the marching band is really small, hopefully I'll be able to march trumpet next year. I'm going to try to buy my own trumpet before next marching season.

If anyone has any tips, it would be greatly appreciated! I play the flute and piccolo right now.

I think it's great that you're learning how to play the trumpet, but I'm not all that sure what kind of tips to give (*was never able to play flute, so wouldn't have a clue how different it is to play both*)...

It's...easier to put the trumpet together? (Just pop the mouthpiece in! Hehe...)

Tah-ka-tah-ka-tah-ka = double-tonguing, and Tek-it-tah tek-it-tah (the sound, at least; not a clue how to write it) = triple-tonguing...Practicing that will help you play faster pieces...

Um...Dunno what else to say.

I'm reading La Corda d'Oro (a manga). 3nodding One of the main characters is a trumpet player - he's one of my favorites, and not just because of the instrument he plays.

Hey, I learned how to play trumpet after the flute, too! Pretty much the only tip I have is to practice like crazy. To gain a higher range, you have to learn the lowest range first. (I learned that the hard way lol). And after I was playing the trumpet for a while, my tone on the flute improved a lot, too. 'Cause I guess the trumpet builds up muscles that the flute can't really. So good luck!!
