You know what I found out today when I decided I was going to strip down some of my old models for repainting?
One of the Terminators that I thought was just a really old model, albeit it IS a really old model in fact it's almost twenty years old...Was actually a Librarian in Terminator armor! I mean holy s**t, I just thought it had always just been an old model for the old codex and all this time I actually had a Space Marine Librarian in Terminator armor. I have like five HQs now when originally I had like...Three...Then I bought that box that comes with the Chaplin and now I find out one of my old Terminators is actually also a Librarian so now I have a regular Librarian with a force staff and a storm bolter AND a Terminator Librarian with a storm bolter and a force axe!
Anyways, anybody know some good ways to strip paint? I've been watching the youtube and there is plenty of videos on it but I figured I'd ask here, since I know particularly one or two of you guys were stripping down models recently. In fact I think one of you had stripped down a Rhino or something to convert it into an Immolator...
I also had originally meant to post what pieces I had here...Totally forgot that part...

It's a household cleaner, dollar a jug, that I've used to strip both plastic and metal. Let it soak overnight (I've let minis soak for weeks without damage to the plastic), and then scrub the paint off with a toothbrush. If there's still paint in the nooks and crannies, toss it back in there and let it soak for another day. It's -very- effective on pewter, and works well on plastic as well.

DarkElf27 I started out by having a nicely upgraded Carnifex (including Regen and Bioplasma), but once all those upgrades are in place, why not just get Old One Eye? The points difference is minimal at that point, I just thought it was overkill for a 1k list. I do believe that a Carnifex with one or two upgrades is still a whole lot cheaper than Old One Eye.

Well, Crushing Claws, Bioplasma, and Regeneration are about 75pts IIRC, and Old One Eye is only 25 more after that.

Well here's a new list tailored to work together a bit more strategically. Tyranid 1000pt List +++HQ+++ Hive Tyrant 165 (Total: 210pts) -Scything Talons 0pts -Lash Whip and Bonesword 20pts -Prehensile Pincer 10pts -Old Adversary 15pts +++TROOPS+++ Tyranid Warrior Brood (X4) 120pts (Total: 145) -Deathspitter (X3) 15pts -Barbed Strangler 10pts Termagant Brood (X20) 80pts Hormagaunt Brood (X20) 100pts +++ELITES+++ Venomthrope Brood (X1) 45pts Venomthrope Brood (X1) 45pts +++FAST ATTACK+++ Gargoyles (X10) 60pts Spore Mine Cluster (X3) 15pts +++HEAVY SUPPORT+++ Carnifex Brood (X2) 240pts (Total: 300pts) -Thresher Scythe (X2) 20pts -Spine Banks (X2) 10pts -Regeneration 30pts Total: 1000pts The idea behind this list is to combine units for the ideal advancing formation. A squad of 'Gants in front, followed by Synapse creatures and a Venomthrope. The point of this is to provide the Venomthrope's Shrouded to the little critters in front, and both Shrouded AND a 5+ cover save from the intervening unit to the Synapse creatures in the back, for a total 3+ cover save for the latter. This means one flank will consist of the Tyrant, Venomthrope, and Hormagaunts, while the other flank will consist of the Carnifexes, Warriors, Venomthrope, and Termagants. The Gargoyles and deep-striking Spore Mines will act as harassment units to assault the particularly dangerous ranged units of the enemy.

Play-tested the last list, determined that Tail Weapons are redundant; all my MCs are kitted with dual-CCWs, and really don't need an extra attack that doesn't even have AP. Dropped the tails and Ancient Enemy to give the Hive Tyrant the Regen upgrade and added another spore mine harassment unit to the mix. Tyranid 1000pt +++HQ+++ Hive Tyrant 165pts (Total: 215pts) -Scything Talons 0pts -Lash Whip and Bonesword 20pts -Regeneration 30pts +++TROOPS+++ Tyranid Warrior Brood (X4) 120pts (Total: 145pts) -Deathspitter (X3) 15pts -Barbed Strangler 10pts Termagant Brood (X20) 80pts Hormagaunt Brood (X20) 100pts +++ELITES+++ Venomthrope Brood (X1) 45pts Venomthrope Brood (X1) 45pts +++FAST ATTACK+++ Gargoyles (X10) 60pts Spore Mine Cluster (X3) 15pts Spore Mine Cluster (X3) 15pts +++HEAVY SUPPORT+++ Carnifex Brood (X2) 240pts (Total: 280pts) -Spine Banks (X2) 10pts -Regeneration 30pts Total: 1000pts

Alright, I got creamed against Grey Knights, so I'd love some feedback on getting a list built that has a chance against them. 1500pts, IG plus Eldar methinks, with lots of AP2, a relatively low number of models, and models that don't rely on cover. Expect a list forthcoming this weekend!

And that right there is a bad idea. I would strongly advice to go in with just the Imperial Guard and field enough men to make a round of enemy shooting take some time to actually do some damage. Same with regards to vehicles, field squadrons of Leman Russ tanks, bombard them with ordnance. Finally, bringing witches to an anti-psyker army is not a good idea either.

Seconding the Lady, here. From personal experience, sadly. My first "competitive" army was the "Melta-Veterans in Vendettas" list. On paper, it was an exceedingly solid list that, according to the internet, would wreck everyone's day. It took about five casualties and one crashed bird to derail the whole thing, and it happened every week.
I realized that the problem was that I was playing Guardsmen like Space Marines. The strength of the Guard is its numbers; it's called the Hammer of the Emperor because it's not subtle. I was still fielding more models than my Space Marine opponents, but not by enough to matter.

Normally I'm of the same inclination; I field enough infantry to crowd my deployment zone, and then some more packed into transports. My game yesterday, I had more than 85 infantry models yesterday, and I was absolutely devastated by Torrent, regular flame-templates, and large-blast templates. Blobs of 20 guardsmen were wiped out to a man in single volleys of fire, so forcing him to "take time inflicting casualties" is already proven a failed tactic. The list I ran yesterday is below. I don't use psykers in my Eldar anyway, anti-psyker GK isn't an issue. 1500pt List ***HQ*** Company Command Squad 155 -Company Commander -Power Sword -Bolt Pistol -4 Veterans -2 Flamers -Carapace Armor -Chimera -Hunter Killer Missile ***ELITES*** ***TROOPS*** Veteran Squad 130 -3 Sniper Rifles -Missile Launcher -Camo Cloaks and Snare Mines *1st PLATOON* Platoon Command Squad 125 -Power Fist -2 Flamers -Krak Grenades -Chimera -Hunter Killer Missile Infantry Squad 55 -Flamer Infantry Squad 55 -Flamer *2nd PLATOON* Platoon Command Squad 30pts (Total: 155pts) -4 Plasma Guns 60pts -1 Plasma Pistol 10pts -Chimera 55pts -Multilaser, heavy flamer Infantry Squad 50pts (Total: 70pts) -Grenade Launcher 5pts -Missile Launcher 15pts Infantry Squad 50pts (Total: 70pts) -Grenade Launcher 5pts -Missile Launcher 15pts Heavy Weapons Squad 60pts -3 Mortars Heavy Weapons Squad 60pts (Total: 75pts) -3 Autocannons 15pts ***FAST ATTACK*** ***HEAVY SUPPORT*** Ordnance Battery 75 -Griffon Leman Russ Vanquisher 155pts (180 Total) -Lascannon 15pts -HK Missile 10pts +++ALLIED DETACHMENT+++ **HQ** Captain 90pts (Total: 105pts) -Plasma Pistol **TROOPS** Scout Squad [5] 55pts (Total: 94pts) -4 Sniper Rifles 4pts -Camo Cloaks 10pts -Missile Launcher w/Flakk 25pts Scout Squad [5] 55pts (Total: 94pts) -4 Sniper Rifles 4pts -Camo Cloaks 10pts -Missile Launcher w/Flakk 25pts 1500 pts
