And Orna, I went to look at your profile, and I saw that you like Mercedes Lackey's writing! I am just getting into it - I've read the first three books of the jousters series and started the fourth last night! What other things did she write?

I love the Pern series also (Anne McCaffrey). Have you read them?

I LOVE Mercedes Lackey!! The Jouster series is a great series, but I'm more of a fan of her Valdemar series and the Elemental books. Out of all her books the 'Last Herald Mage' trilogy (from the Valdemar series) is my favorite. I connected so much with the protagonist of those books. If you haven't looked at all her books, here is her bibliography by series. I own all of the Valdemar, Obsidian Mountain, Elemental Masters, and the Jousters. smile So if you want a recommendation on where to start on the Valdemar ones - whether by publication date or series date - I'm more than willing to give you my viewpoint. smile

I've read some of McCaffrey's stuff - I'm not a huge fan but she is a talented author.

Cerbera! I LOVE the Ravenclaw Avvie!!! :3 Great job :]]

The library! Hmm...I personally prefer bookstores...? Because they have more books, pastries (xD), and poofy couches biggrin

Poop! I wished that the Word Bump game gave out gold D: Because I love it ^-^

ERGH. Seahawks = losing. THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY WE CAN LOSE. NONONONONONONO!!!!! *tips over* We /must/ win. If we lose, WE'RE GONE. sweatdrop -pokes offense- DO BETTER! The defense is doing really well. Urgh.

*will stop being a weird football-lover*

XP

Yeah, but at bookstores I worry that I'm not planning to buy the book.

Plus my library does have poofie couches. ^_^

AAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!! Football! I'm terrible at foot ball and every time I come in contact with it I end up injured. *shrieks and hides* Luckily I"m in high school now and I can choose what gym I take, so I'm doing yoga and pilates and foot ball is thankfully a thing of the past.

xD My mom dated a guy named Valdemar in college before she met my dad and we (my sister and I) tease her that she dated Voldemort. Now I must remind myself that Valdemar is NOT the same as Voldemort.

When I finish Aerie, I'll get a recommendation for where to go next. =)

Our library has poopie chairs/places to sit.

They aren't even plush or anything.

It's wooden and it's a chair and...

-.-"

Eh, I just go to the study rooms and read.

>.<

*sighs* Seahawks might make it to the Superbowl! *cheers* heart

My local library only has these dinky plastic chairs to sit on, and their all around these big tables O_O

And all the bookstores I go to like The World's Biggest Bookstore (a store located in Toronto that's owned by Chapters but still hella lot bigger than a Chapters or Indigo) have, like, no chairs!

But that was the WBBS's big punch in it's advertising back in the day, they cut back on cheap frills like chairs and soft lighting so all the money goes to actually getting books. And they have LOTS of books!

Sports + me = bodily harm to yours truly. x3

Our library was just rebuilt and it's beautiful - the whole front wall is a giant window, and there are way more computers, and the teen section is bigger and has squishy perfect chairs, so I love it.

Lookie! I got avatar art of my ravenclaw avatar from the talented Alexisntemo! I can send you the link to his shop if you want - this was only 400 gold! mrgreen

I would say that my greatest strenght is my intelligence and my outgoing nature. I am a strong believer that you need more then just itelligence to get by in life, a strong personality and desire to succeed is needed as well.

Hi Jillian! Welcome to Ravenclaw. I got your PM - I'm glad you like my avatar.

Hands up, how many people are happy that the spirit falcon item is a blue bird of prey?

It is so perfect for Ravenclaw!

Popped to the outer world for a time, and I'm 3 pages behind on the Common Room posts! Welcome to our newcomers, jillian_insomnia, Mr Xenophilius Lovegood, ish_sqwee...Cerbera Dragon, you're practically a senior among the first years.

I've been spending some time behind the scenes, and very much looking forward to Quidditch. Haven's Quidditch is based on brains, and not brawn, I expect our House will do well!

I love the spirit falcon, though my Avi's a bit crowded now with magical creatures - I love em all.

Mercedes Lackey is my favorite author (sorry Jo!)prolfic, and her characters live and breathe and inspire. There are only one or two of her books I haven't liked, and those were collaborations. I met Misty in person a few years back when she was still attending cons and I lived on the east coast of the United States. I have a hair ornament and a bracelet she made for me (well, I was high bid in her Alex auction) and a few notes she's sent me. I love the Tarma and Kethry tales as well as All her Valdemar books, but they will break your heart as well as uplift you- just a warning. I frequently have tears running at some point in her series. I just finished Misty's Owl Knight trilogy with a satisfied sigh, and a few edge of my seat moments.

I suggest you take Orna up on her recommendations as to reading order!
Misty interweaves characters, places and plots among her books and you'll increase your pleasure a thousandfold if you read say, Kerowyn's tale before the Winds trilogy. But start with Arrows of the Queen, her first published book. I loved it, she wrote it as and for a young adult. and her books get better and more skillful from there. Her Elemental series are marvelous - mostly set in Edwardian and Victorian England, and they formed a bridge with Haven's new affliate guild, "Friends of English Magic."
I use quotes and scenes from her books (and also from HP) to help inspire my clients. The first two Diana Tregarde books - especially Children of the Night- awesome! The Last Herald Mage is some of Misty's best writing - tho the Winds Trilogy I think is my favorite. And you ought read the Last Herald Mage before the Winds trilogy.

Anne's Dragonflight was one of the first books I read, and I've read her Pern series and a few of her others. Ehh on Dinosaur World, I did like the Crystal Line series and Decision on Doona and Restoree particularly come to mind as wonderful! I was there when Robin Wood brought her brilliant and beautiful painting of Robinton to - can't remember the name of the con but it was a big one- and presented it as a gift to Anne who was guest of honor. (The painting and more of Robin's work is in an Illustrated Guide to Pern). I do remember that a ragged stray terrier-hound looking pup wandered in off the city streets the first day of the con (Boskone?), I tended the pup during the con, and brought it up to Anne who pitched for a home and got it adopted. I got a wonderful post card from her a week later thanking me! for help with the "con stray" which I still treasure.

OK - while it's still ephiphany, time for me to make like a Magi, and finish handing out the prizes and gold from the Yule Events!
Huggles to you all!

Oh wow.. I am so envious right now, I would love to meet her at some point in my life. The impact she's had on my life is immense and I would be moved to tears to be able to talk to her!

Yes! I'm a Ravenclaw, although it's knd of strange how I got here. I was originally sorted into Gryffindor, which sincerely disappointed me, but I learned through LadyHealingHands that someone had been re-sorted once. So I PMed Auqajade and asked her to sort me into Ravenclaw, which she did. And now I get to party with the geeks. [/doesthechickendance]

Then again, maybe I should just stay by the punchbowl...

Ah, it's been a while since I had the opportunity to really post in Gaia.. Stupid laptop.

We don't have a wide selection of books in our library. But I really like it! I was just there to borrow a few books. Wuthering Hights by Emily Brontë and the Collected Works of William Shakespeare. Everyone has to read those in their lifetime!

And I love how the Shakespeare books looks. It's old. Very old. The pages are quite thick, and they're yellowing. It doesn't even say when it was published! It was a gift to the library from a man. It has a little note saying it.

And that's one of the reasons why I like the library. Their books are mostly an old published version. Which is much better then the newer ones. I love old books! biggrin

Gah.. I'm tempted to just borrow the Collected Works of Edgar Allen Poe there as well. Even though I have the book. But I wanna read from an earlier version! I'm weird like that, I guess...

Another reason why I love our library, is that I know the owner. Today, I didn't bring my library card, so I just called the owner, and she fixed it so that I just had to state my name, and I'd get to borrow the books without any further additional information. Which was awesome! biggrin

Me and my friend is going back there tomorrow. She borrowed The Unfinished Tales and The Lord of the Rings. I'm gonna borrow them when she returns the books. whee

Oh, and I was going to look for books by Mercedes Lackey... But I forgot her name.. Momentarily brain tap, and it didn't get back before I got home. But tomorrow, I'm gonna borrow them! ...But then again, perhaps I should wait till I return the other two books.. confused

And congratulations Jillian, for getting sorted into Ravenclaw! I hope you enjoy your time here! I know I have. *grins*

And I have to agree with you Cerbera. The Spirit Falcon is as Ravenclaw as it gets!

Yes, books make the world go around!

So, I'm disappointed when people say that the Internet can replace books, because books just hold a spirit that is completely different on its own...

Exactly! The internet /is/ fun, but books, they're different. I stay up reading until 1am...but I don't get on the computer. I like being in my own little autocosm. Iduno, books just make me feel like I'm in a different world =o And the Internet just makes me happy. XD

So today, I was at Target, and I was like OMG I SEE A GAIA CASH CARD I WANT ITTTTT And my parents were like ._.' Because they said spending money on online games is useless. Heh. I agreed. xP But anywhoo it was funny.

Lahh. It snowed! And it slowed my bus down -.- So I was nearly late to pick up my brother!

How's everybody on this fine dayy?
