That wasn't good. He had a split second to react, and while normall a technique like this would be a joke to deflect, he had someone to worry about. Crushing the weak was what he did, but she was in his team, and that made it different. Even if he thought she didn't measure up yet, he wouldn't betray a comrade unless there was absolutely no recourse. There were no hand seals to this technique, which made it perfect, but it wasn't something he liked to do often. A Clan Jutsu..
the spheres would appear to strike the man as he jumps in front of Kira's body, his movements sending up dirt everywhere, and of course the impact of the spheres around things. Still, when the dust clears, Shuten is half-standing there, his arms crossed, palms out, his body encased in a pulsing green field that surrounds only him. It's near skintight, and he'd lowered to one knee to protect Kira's body from all angles with himself. It wasn't foolproof apparently; he'd stopped the attack, though his barrier weakened in places and let some of it get through, though not enough to cause him anything but bruises. He could deal with that. He'd had to put it up too fast to make it as impregnable as he liked it.
"You're a little tougher than I thought. Good. It means you'll let me warm up. But I've fought Kotai before, man to man. You're not even close to his level. Now..!"
He again assumes that defensive stance, slamming his wrists together, as a burst of red energy surrounds his form..an image bursting up around him, red chakra in the form of a demonic face..and he grins an evil grin. The blast of aura dispersed any of the spheres that might have been stuck on his padding at all, assuring nothing foreign would be in his armor as it rose.
"Kuchiyosefuuin! Yoroi no Mujou!"
It's nigh instantaneous; the blast of chakra..the burst of light..the spirals of force and the tremors that go through the earth as if it was shaking in terror. With a kiai, Shuten moves his arms apart in a forceful motion, sending chunks of land in front of him flying at the man who tried to machine gun him and his partner to death..and he stands fully, chain in one hand..his body encased in that armor..the Armor of Cruelty. He wasn't lying. He's stopped playing.

::Hinata forced still more chakra into the ground, forcing the hole wider still, ejecting the remains of the water out through the exit. She was not a master of earth jutsu like Shuten, who she cast a quick glance at before sending a puzzled look back over at Kotai, but she could control her own chakra well enough. Within little time the tunnel would be wide enough to release the nin that were inside, taking advantage of the distraction that Shuten was causing the leader. She motioned with on hand to the tunnel, signaling the others as well as Kotai::
::She didn't know how much time they had, but it seemed the even if the man were to concentrate on both them and Shuten, that it would over extend him. Her brows knitted together for a moment as her eyes drifted over Shuten. It had surprised her that he has protected the young girl, whom she didn't recall having met yet. It seemed a bit out of character for him, at least what she has seen of him so far. She gave a shake of her head and turned her attention back to her current task, holding open the tunnel::
::Kira laid on the ground that was still soaked with water, her body motionless, lids closed heavily over icey blue eyes, unaware that Shuten has protected her. She had, honestly, expected him to leave her the moment she was no longer of use. It was expected, in her head, because she was no longer able to fight, at least not at the moment, and she still viewed him as mostly heartless. Her chakra wasn't completely exhausted, but she would not be able to use it for awhile, she over extended her body's ability to control it, even enough to make a shield for herself and she has passed out::

The commander wasn't really too interested in Shuten's armor...Until it showed what it could do at least...but he did notice something...Kira doesn't have armor on....
the small spheres on the ground around the two floated around Kira, and slowly morphed their shapes until they were like needles...and then they all shot at their target...the helpless Kira...
while that was happening, the commander shot a few more spheres at Shuten...
Five soldiers, in a desperate attempt to do something, lined the hole Hinata had created...and tried to put dirt in it to bury it...they could do other things...but they wanted to play in the dirt...got a problem with that?

Kotai had remained stationary until this point, content to watch Hinata ply her abilities. It was something he felt she needed - he'd recently realized how ignorant he'd been of her skills and feelings regarding them, always stepping in to do everyone else's work left little for them to do. But multiple soldiers were something she did not need to deal with at the moment.
"Forgive me, Hinata-chan. I will have them out of your way in a moment." He smiled fondly upon her with that comfortable glance of warmth and trust. It was a huge weight off of his chest that they'd finally gotten their feelings out in the open, and as for huge weight...
Kotai stuck his fist in the hole Hinata made and looked out of the shield to the soldiers on the other end. "Goodbye, guys. Bubun Baika no jutsu!" His arm quickly grew, expanding to twenty times its original size, stretching the hole wide open on both ends, and the soldiers outside would find a fist larger than their collective selves tearing up from the ground with the force of a high-speed tractor-trailer crash, enough to liquefy their brains and crush their armor into their organs.

::Hinata sent Kotai a sweet smile and nodded, appreciative of his assistance so as not to drain herself too much too early. She kept chakra flowing through the hole so that it would not collapse as the others quickly made their way to where the enemy had been blasted away from the entrance by Kotai::
::Kira moaned, her eye lids lifting heavily as she tried to focus on what was going on. She could feel and smell the damp earth beneath her, felt it pressing against her cheek, not surprised to find herself in the mud at all. She couldn't lift her head as of yet, but she could just make out Shuten in front of her, if she raised her eyes far enough. Her vision was still blurred, but she had hunted for him so long that even without clear sight she could make him out::

Well, there was a problem with that. See, if the spheres took a while to float..and morph..and THEN fire..by the time the enemy threw spheres at him, he'd have already seen the floaty spheres, considering well..he was protecting her and all..yeah. Big and mean doesn't mean unaware. He was still a NINJA. jeez. The moment he even sensed the movement from the spheres on the ground upward, obviously it meant they were on the move. He took that moment to grab Kira, way before they'd finished that transformation seeing as (according to the description) they changed slowly, and he didn't move slowly. Not in the slightest. So, on the offchance that the way it was described meant the enemy ninja was firing as the spheres were just starting to float, well that was no problem either.
Shuten grabs up Kira quickly as the needles form enough to fire, and the spheres come his way..and he spins himself around rapidly, and kicks the ground with his foot as he moves. This causes a large chunk of earth to come up before him, stopping the incoming spheres cold. [Doton: Doroku Gaeshi]. The resulting wall is fifteen feet by fifteen feet, and about a foot thick; that will stop nearly anything, especially enhanced with Shuten's unnatural chakra, and at the velocity at which they're moving, he seriously doubts they can be stopped fast enough to not smack his wall. Since the frontal line of sight to himself and his charge is also as a result totally cut off from the enemy, Shuten leaves Kira behind the wall, and sinks into the land, using [Doton: Tsuchi Gunjikoudou no Jutsu]. Moving through earth is his speciality. He's a Stone Nin after all, and if the enemy is busy controlling his balls, he might not notice..when Shuten comes up underneath to use [Doton: Shinjuu Zanshu no Jutsu], also known as 'that technique Kakashi pwned Sasuke with'. The Earth Inner Decapitation Technique.
Ultimately, if the enemy dodges away, Shuten's still got close range to attack, and if he doesn't dodge, he's gunna be up to his neck in trouble. And dirt.

At the slightest shifting of earth below him, the commander basically lifted off and flew upwards...if one cared to discover how he suddenly gained the power of levitation, there'd be 3 spheres each on the bottom of each of the commander's feet...(hah! flight!!!)
a single sphere instantaneously morphed into a slender needle, and basically flew downwards into the ground where Shuten's head/eye would be, judging by where the hand popped up...the slenderness reduced any friction or resistance...but being that it was that special metal, any basic rocks or lumps of dirt won't be of any help to Shuten...
As for those that impacted Shuten's wall, they pulled themselves off of it, and flew back towards the commander, rejoining the other spheres...
Well, 4 soldiers died...G forces got to em...but around 3 more jumped at the hand and attempted to use their above-human strength to punch at a bone or something, hoping to break it...
The number of soldiers remaining were dwindling down at a rapid pace...one of them made a break for it...apparently, he was now the messenger to go get backup...

Kotai's wrist responded immediately with Ekitai Hagane. "Detonate." Spines speared out from the liquid metal covering Kotai's arm at staggered and apparently random intervals. Those that didn't kill by outright piercing a soldier's vital areas would quickly become apparent killers all the same... every portion of metal that found itself inside of an enemy began branching out much like they originally had from Kotai's arm. "Drill!" And each set of spikes began to spin rapidly, like an internal blender stationed inside of his enemies. It was one of the most painful and grisly ways to go - a method of execution he learned during the last Great War, from watching the man of shadow.
Behind Kotai, a few soldiers seemed somewhat disturbed by his brutality, but the more seasoned didn't appear to care. Which was good, since he'd cleared the way for everyone to exit, which was taken care of quickly.

Kotai stood outside the energy-field containment area and frowned. "Well, dearest kunoichi of mine, shall we continue to let my murderous "friend" here handle things and conserve our strength, or step in and clear out the trash for him?" Kotai looked over the last few soldiers in the immediate area.
Behind Kotai, the other ninja had assembled and were spreading out, forming a perimeter around the area. Areno stood several feet off from Kotai - relishing the thought of leaping into battle against orders, Tetsujin watching Shuten with interest.
As for the messenger, he wouldn't get three feet into the cover of the trees. He'd feel something akin to a digging sensation as he tripped the many wires lain across branches and brush. He'd find that dozens of ground-based spike traps shot up from the grass to impale him, nearly a hundred kunai and shuriken rained down, and a singular arrow that sped through the forest with speed and power so intense that the trees bowed out of the way of the oncoming projectile.

There's no such thing as NO resistance, if there's inertia, there's friction. Still, that's not the important thing. His movement in the earth isn't clunky like a Xorn, and when something goes into it, it can be felt the second it hits, giving him a split second to react. One isn't made unaware of their element and surroundings due to lack of sight. That's not how a ninja is trained. Regardless, in that split second, Shuten shifts his head faintly to one side, which would allow the needle to pierce not his eye, but just to the left of it. Still, any hit is a successful hit right? But wait, sports fans! There's more. Once his head is shifted, the armor reacts on its own, instantaneously; a faceplate forms over his..well..face..intercepting the needle as it comes down upon what was his skin. Okay, so he loses in one regard. he didn't beat his enemy without getting the armor dirty. He lost some cool points. But while the commander has special metal, he has a partially sentient armor, made of metal just as special.
The grabbing hand vanishes again under the earth, then a brief, quick handseal is made, unseen as Shuten once again jumps up, and this time comes up through the dirt entirely, and looks up at the levitating commander through his faceplate. The chain is spun rapidly, and slung at the levitating commander, extending upward in a wrapping action. It's obvious that he's going to attempt to grapple the floating man, despite it leaving him open.
"I've got you!"

What Shuten would now see as he came out of the ground was that the number of spheres around the commander had become fewer in number...that amount however created a small quilt-like thing and wrapped around the chain...holding it away from the commander...and if Shuten cared to look all around him, he now stood in the midst of a cloud of the tiny spheres...the commander had left most of them behind, expecting at least someone to pop up from the ground...immediately, as if he had triggered a trap, all those spheres around him changed into needles and flew at him...They'd strike all over his body from many different angles, concentrating mostly at the joints...This strategy was employed before...no matter how powerful an armor is, there has to be a weak point, and those usually exist around the joints or where 2 or more pieces of the armor combine...
((@Komm...kinda overkill there eh?))
The earthen spiked just pushed his armored and shielded body off the ground...most of the kunais bounced off the armor if it happened to get by the shielding...but that lone arrow did the trick...went right through him...

arrow Magic and Trap field: Shunketsu, you just triggered my Trap Card!
Absolutely right. There were exploitable weaknesses in ANY armor, and it was good to use such things against an enemy who has proven it effective against one's own men. But was that unseen handseal underground REALLY a hidden trump? Of course! The needles would fly, and the chain is taught, but the spheres holding it might be in for a surprise when the needles pierce their errant target; the target explodes in a poof of white smoke. Kage Bunshin, which Shuten had done the handseal for earlier, unseen. There wasn't even enough time between the poof of smoke and Shuten's next move from where he was underground. The cry of it wasn't heard due to how he was in the earth, but hundreds upon hundred of red bursts of energy flew up from the ground, wrapping, spinning, catching, colliding, almost unavoidably so. They go at angles, upwards, anywhere anything can be caught on, and they even catch on each other, making a perfect barrier of chains that entrap and hold and confine.
Ko Rai Jishin. The ultimate ougi of the weapon Akahoshi, guaranteed to lay an entire force low by immobilizing and holding them in their entirety. The chains don't even seem to need anything to anchor TO..it's like they can anchor even on empty air by floating, yet they are taut as if hooked into something, making a veritible maze of metal and Chakra. Shuten comes out of the ground then, confident that if the commander wasn't held tight in the hundreds of chains strewn all over the area, he at least would have very little room to maneuver anywhere or fire effectively through all of the obstacles. Thing is, he hadn't seen what else was going on, so if the commander had already been struck, hit, etc, while he more than likely had a damn good chance to be caught in said chain-maze-hold-thingy, Shuten would be oblivous until that second, just now, when he came from the ground, unable to know if anything happened due to the fact the son of a b***h was off the ground.

arrow Fields - dang I wish I had a swiss army knife that had 7 tools and belonged to a thief...
The spheres that had held on to the first chain quickly flattened themselves out and layered themselves at different angles, forming another shield...the chains that shot forth would be deflected by this shield at various angles, but the sheer amount would be troublesome...it basically surrounded the commander and held him in place...the chains were only touching the shielding, but they left him without a place to go...
The needles that were still within range and had some kind of shot at Shuuten flew for the joints once again, most of them concentrating around the neck, with the 2nd most going for the belt-line, where the leg armor and chest armor met...if any got through, it would have been a godsend at the moment...the rest of the spheres, the commander attempted to recall, and those that could navigate through the maze of chains returned to him...the others would follow eventually as they were small enough to not get caught in the chains permanently...

::Hinata seemed to ignore the level of savagry that was involved in Kotai's attack. She exited behind to, releasing the chakra when everyone was clear and letting the tunnel collapse. She paused breifly at his side to give him a soft kiss on the cheek, as light as butterfly wings, before turning to survey the area around them. It seemed that the grunts had been taken care of for the most part, the last few being picked off by the shinobi still hiding in the brush and trees::
::As she passed her milky eyes flicked over to Areno, one brow raised slightly as she gave him a quizical look, beginning to move again in the direction of their target::
::Kira had finally managed to her self to her feet and had moved around the wall behind which she had been deposited, some of her strength returning. She was filthy, soaked and covered in mud. Her icey eyes found Shuten locked into a battle with whoever that annoying main man was. Her fingers quickly locked into a seals, a wall of ice forming between the commanders attack and Shuten, having just enough time to throw up the barrier. She slumped a bit against the wall again, feeling the slight drain on her only just regenerating Chakra::
::she allowed herself a slight smirk before disappearing again behind the wall. She wasn't fully up to par yet and was not about to fully waste the fact that Shuten had taken the effort to hide her, whether it baffled her or not::

Shuten had been prepared to call forth his defense of chains, but is rather surprised when an icewall is put up between him and the incoming needles. Well, that was interesting. A favor given for a favor recieved, eh? Still, usually that was the final trump; he could crush a man in the chains around them, but this guy had a forcefield. That was troublesome. It would eventually charge down, he figures, but he'd have to wait for it, and that gave the enemy time to attack. He goes through several venues of attack at once, all spinning by in his head. He latches onto it then..and plows forward, through the ice barrier after the enemy's attack is stopped. Quickly the symbols are made; one is quick, a preparation..then another set at a rapid pace. Shuten holds up his chain weapon..and inhales.
"Katon: Ryuuka no Jutsu!"
And flames explode from his mouth, dancing along several of his chains, the shape of a multi-headed dragon..all seeking out their target. With his chakra, even drained as it is, he's got enough to do this..and the fires blast towards his opponent..forcefield or no, if he weakens it with this blast, it will leave him vulnerable to Kotai and the others most like; having the armor on, and using so many techniques, even Shuten's unnaturally powerful chakra is depleting; There isn't a lot of time left for the armor to remain on. He's got to make it count.
