As quiet as he was, he couldn't escape the fact that he left the window open. Bijin woke with a cold breeze against his back. He yawned a bit and went to close it, then realized his friend wasn't in the room. He saw a flash of orange go across the street. He frowned, Kin couldn't go out by himself like that! Not at night. He grabbed a coat and his stuffed kitsune and quietly flowed his friend.
Meanwhile, the mooing could be hear more and more as Kinnara approached the temple. None of the monks from earlier were around, even though the temple was completely lit up. Lanterns were hung in a straight line that lead down into the main temple room. In that room was a large statue of a bull ox.

Kinnara walked up to the Ox statue. "I know you are here. Cow show yourself. You call me in the night time. Do you finally want to admit what you and that damn rat did to me." said Kinnara with his tail puffing out. He was not pleased at all. He knew that the ox and the rat always plan stuff to do to him without him noticing. "Come out Ox or I will have to do a little shredding of my own." he smirked as he placed his hand on a near by tapestery.

"No need for that Cat." A voice, soft and gentle, came from the large statue. Then a figure imerged from it, a cow like human, a minataur if you will. He looked older than most, tired and hunched over from carrying a great weight. "Do you really think I hated you? That I wanted to hurt you? The rat has ways of making people help him you know. Did you ever think of what he said to all of us? Did you think you were the only one he tricked?"
Mean while Bijin had tried to follow as silently as he could, but he knew he had to keep his distance due to those big ol'ears Kinnara constantly used. He saw his friend go back to the Temple of the Ox and was confused. Why did he have to go back now? He couldn't read any of the ancient texts? Then he heard him talk to the Ox spirit, then threaten to desicrate a tapestry. He was about to go stop him when the spirit suddenly imerged. He meeped softly and hide behind the kitsune statues that guarded the temple. The little boy watched as Kinnara conversed with this ancient spirit.

Kinnara took his hand off the fabric. "What do you mean. From the stories you help the rat by helping him knock me off your back. What was that damn rat planing anyways. And what was your secret? Did you awaken from your slumber to tell me or were you just mooing because you were bored?"

"I do not know what the rat was planning. None of us did until it was too late. He promised me he would ride on my rump and tell me if someone was getting closer. He promised he would come in second so he could always be there to warn me of danger." The manimal hung his head, his ears droping slightly. "We had been such good friends, then he betrays me. And he betrayed you, after all you had went through together. I never expected him to be like that, even when we were children he was always so kind to us. I often wonder if that was just another one of his plans. But I know his secret to winning. He tricked all the others just like he tricked me and you. He each told us something, something that would make us lose to him. The others didn't realize it, but I figured it out when I saw how all the others lost, and I went and told the dragon." The figure sat down on the steps. "The dragon said it made sense so he went out to find what the rat had said to all the others. But he never returned to tell me what he found. I think, perhaps, the rat may have planned out the entire race from start to finish."
Meanwhile Bijin just listened in on the ox's story. He was curious and wanted to know about what the rat said. Something stirred within him as he leaned agianst the vulpine statue. He didn't know it then, but it had awoken something deep within himself. Something to aid in his search as well perhaps. But for now, Bijin just watched and listened.

Kinnara just studied the cow for a while. "He plan it? How can that be. Did the Jade emperor plan it like that. And what is causing me to have these strange dreams? " He then pace for a moment with his tail going back and forth. "And why was I given a human body? Did that damn rat plan this too?" He then stop and his ears flickered. He could he the slight breathing of a fox. "Bijin come out. You don't have to hide anymore."

"I don't know, my old friend. The rat always seems to have a plan. And since the race, I have been here. Too ashamed to venture out any more. I was such a fool." He blinked as Kinnara asked someone to come out of hiding.
If Bijin had ears like Kinnara, they'd be laying down. He slowly came out of hiding and walked up. "Anou, I'm sorry Kin-sempai. I was worried about you. What are you doing here?"
The Ox stared long and hard at Bijin, then smiled softly. "Perhaps things can change. I see a true friend in that one."
Bijin just blinked at the large creature and hide a little behind the feline.

Kinnara turned back to Bijin. "It's okay but sometimes it is better that I do things alone rather then have to worry about anyone else getting hurt because of me." Kinara then turned back to the Ox. "So Ox spirit have the others awaken or are the still sleeping?"

"But sometimes its good to have friends with you if you do get hurt." Bijin gently scolded his friend but stayed quiet as he talked to the spirit.
"They have all begun to stir. Ever since you came to Japan. But I only awakened after you had visited my temple. And now that I have said my piece, I must sleep again. Good luck my old friend. I hope you give the Rat what he truly deserves." With that Ox slowly stood back up and walked back into his statue. All the laterns suddenly went out and it was as if nothing had happened.
"Ne, Kin-sempai. Can we go back now? I'm cold." He hugged his little plushie fox to his frame.

"Sure we can," said Kin with a smile and looked at the Cow as he went back to sleep. He wonder if he should continue this journey or not. Kinnara then smiled and made up his mind he was going to have to face the rat while in Japan and he wasn't leaving til he had some answer. "Let go Bijin back to the room." He said walking out of the temple.

Bijin held Kinnara's hand as they walked back. He even got a little closer since the night had turned a little chilly. He looked a little hurt, a small pout on his face.
"Why did you go out without telling me, Kin-sempai? I wouldn't have told anyone."

"Sometimes I have to do things alone," said Kinnara. "I thought if I went alone that it would be better and I could figure out what was going on with the Ox and what his secret was. But I guess I was wrong kind of." Kinnara the shrugged. "Well we should get back to our rooms before your mother finds out."

"Well, even if you want to go alone, at least tell me next time. I was really worried about you." Bijin smiled softly to his friend before they both snuck back into their room. He fell right back to sleep all curled up with this stuffed fox.
The next morning his mother woke them both up for breakfast. "Come and eat boys, we have two more temples to visit before we leave this inn."
"Haaaaiiii" Bijin jumped up and trotted to her room for breakfast, he hoped Kin had gotten some sleep last night.

Kinnara slept in his room. He felt so drained after going to the temple of the ox. He sat up and rested his hand on his head. He felt so different like he felt weak. Kinnara shook his head. It was proubly from a lack of of sleep he thought to himself. He got out of bed and headed for the dinning room. He saw kin was already there. He sat down at the table.

"Good morning Kinnara. I hope you slept well."
The woman busied herself with serving breakfast and other morning type things. Meanwhile Bijin ate slowly as he watched Kinnara, he sensed something different about him and not just the tired part. He wondered if anything else had happened that they didn't know about.
"Ne, okaa-san. Are we going to another temple today?"
"Hai, the dragon temple is about a mile away so I've arranged for a taxi to take us there since you two seem rather tired from all this walking."
A mile huh? Well at least Kinnara couldn't walk that in a night and back. At least Bijin hoped he wouldn't, otherwise it'd be another long night for him.
