Well, I'm the only female percussionist in my grade and I've been first chair for about two years now (not to toot my own horn, sry for the outrageously lame pun). I love drum set, snare, mallets, heck, even a woodblock will work for me! Female Drummers Unite!

When I first started taking music in school, I was the only girl percussionist in my class. The next year, I was one out of three, and we all held high chair places. The year after that, continuing until this year, I've been the only female percussionist.
Also, this was a first year doing marching band, and I am one out of two females on the line. We both play bass drum.
I stand out cause I'm a girl, but also cause I'm a "little white girl". For the most part, I don't like to be picked out or given special treatment because I'm a girl. I just want to play music.

GO GIRLS!!! yea it just so happens that at my school the best drummers or should i say only "percussionist" at my school play the drums so its really awesome! it so happens that the majority on our drumline are girls so yep! i'm proud to say that i play the drums wink

Hell yes. I'm in eighth grade still, so there are only three drummers in our band, but I'm the only girl. We don't really have assigned positions. It's just, "You play timpani, you play snare, and you play bass." or whatever for each song. It's actually pretty cool though because we get to try everything. This is my first year in band although I've been playing longer.

there's 3 girls (counting me) on drumline but there's at least 2 other girls in concert band at my highschool. I guess as a whole thats a small amount in comparison to all the guys but all the guys in concert suck bummmola so I guess it's even there. (drumline rules. no question)

I'm one 3nodding 8girls out of 15 all together. I'm only in seventh grade but im in it for the long haul. 5 of those girls are quitting before we get to highschool for marching band. When I get there I want to play the snare or quads. As of right now theres only 1 girl snare and no girl quad players (been that way for 15 years). Its sort of odd how I became a drummer both my brother are to. And I get the hand me down drum lol. Both of them play the bass in highschool so I may get stuck there too heart . But the only cool thing is we all play matched grip xd (okay not so cool, shut up XP)

I'm learning snare right now. First time even picking up a pair of sticks, actually. There's only one other girl percussionist other than me, but she plays flute for both marching and instrumental. I guess only when we need her she's there. So, gotta learn quick and efficiently for the sake of girl drummers! All in all, we have 4 guys and 3 girls in the percussion section that show up for our after school practices, 1 guy and 2 girls of which play their own instruments (alto sax, french horn, and flute) for marching and competition season. We're pretty small right now. crying

I'm the only female percussionist in band. It's kinda cool, but scary at the same time, being surrounded by so much testosterone! xd I've been playing band percussion since 5th grade, and just a month ago started taking private lessons for the trap set.
I've seen so many people talking about drum line and stuff, but my high school doesn't have one. We're a private school, and we miss out on 'normal' high school things like marching band and football games and such. Anyways, I want to know how many percussionistas there are in BAND. Or orchestra. But orchestra percussion sucks.
