Gift From Breena

No one in the household heard a doorbell, or a knock or was even aware that someone had visited and left a little something for Paestri. It was found the next day when Huni opened the shop.

"Lookie Pae, someone left a gift for you. Do you know who is it from? Maybe the bakery people wanted to say sorry with a little something." Huni smiled as she brought in the parcel. Odd, there was no indications it was from the bakery. She just thought it would be them.

The Legend was seated in her chair, legs swinging back and forth as she ate her food vigorously. She paused mid-swallow and turned to face her mama. She beamed at hearing the word gift and hopped off her seat to toddle towards Huni.

Malady was coiled around Paestri's waist, hissing angrily at the word bakery.

They think can make up for it with little trinkets? it snarled.

"Here you go."

The Legend ripped open the parcel and gasped in delight when she found what was inside.

"Oh my, I don't think the bakery sent that..."

Paestri cooed in delight at the shiny present. There was a note attached indicating this was from Breena. She beaemed in delight and began to tug at Huni to carry her upstairs despite not having finished her breakfast. She wanted to put the crystal in a safe place as soon as possible.

"Alright Paestri. But you'll finish your food afterwards, ookie?" Huni asked, nuzzling the little girl on the forehead.

"Ya!"

New Arrival

There was a huge commotion coming from downstairs and Paestri wandered down from her room in curiosity. Why was her mama squealing and making all those sounds she made when she saw introduced to a small person?

Malady glided after the Legend, muttering things beneath its breath. It didn't understand why everyone had to be so damn happy. There wasn't anything to be happy about!

Paestri peered through the railings of the stairs and saw her brother looking flustered. His cheeks were are red as his hair and Paestri found this very funny. She giggled, and continued down the stairs. Eventually she was face-to-face with whatever was causing all this excitement.

It was another small person. They were roughly the same size, same height, though the other person looked a little older than she was. Her mouth curled into an "oh" of surprise and interest. She reached out a hand towards the other child, not at all sure what she was hoping to taste. Recently Paestri didn't think there was a reason to worry about what a person tasted. She just tasted them, simple as that.

"Hu?" she asked brightly.

"Oh Pae, this is uh... this is your niece Arya." Linneas introduced, if it was possible for his blush to deepen it would. He still felt rather awkward knowing he was now a father. A father! Oh dear me, it couldn't be true, could it?

"My grand daughter? But I'm not ready to be a grandmother yet!!" Huni whined, but she was smiling despite herself.

"Hi!" Arya nodded to the pink-haired girl. She didn't so much as flinch when Paestri ran a finger up her arm. Instead she giggled, it tickled!

"Hiiiii!" Paestri echoed, suddenly throwing her arms around Arya. Yes, the taste wasn't bad, hence Malady didn't react in any way.

The Intangible stuck half of its body through Arya's chest and stared at Paestri. "Meh, she ain't nothing great." it declared.

That was actually as much of a praise as it was willing to give.

Growing Pains

Huni Pi
It has been over a week since that incident in the Bakery, and while Paestri acts like the whole thing had been nothing more than a bad dream, I can't be sure she's back to normal.

For one, she has created an "imaginary friend" called Malady. Wherever could she have learned such a word like that? I must ask Linny about it, but I'll wait until he's more settled down now that he has a daughter.

I still can't believe I'm a grandmother... (And Huni groans in dismay at the word)

Anyway, Paestri used to get so upset when Avitus was nearby, but she doesn't seem all that bothered by the Feien. It's not so much that she's ignoring him or avoiding him, it's more like she doesn't mind his snarls or growls. Is my little girl turning into some sort of masochist?

I shudder at the thought.

Meanwhile in Paestri's room, the little pink Legend was roused from her sleep by her locket. It was vibrating in the similar fashion cellular phones did when set to silent. She sat up in surprise, her eyes saucer wide before she clasped the trembling piece of jewelry with her hands.

Malady released a shrill shriek as it felt Paestri grow alarmed. It coiled in the air, somersaulting and twisting in agony before it floated down onto her lap. It whimpered softly, sniffling as it burrowed under Paestri's blankets to rest against her thighs.

The Legend didn't even think to comfort the creature, instead she struggled to pry the locket open. When it finally did, the familiar face appeared. It quirked a brow at the sight of Malady before the corner of its mouth curled into a smile.

Ah, I see you've managed to do it. You have proven yourself worthy of inheriting the memories.

Paestri blinked up at the face and shrugged nonchalantly, it didn't seem that big a deal to her. "San'yu?" She replies uncertain whether or not she should be pleased.

Brace yourself child...

Again the locket trembles, harder and harder until it forces itself out of Paestri's grasp. Soon, the entire room is shaking, upsetting her crib and the rest of the furniture. The Legend tumbles out onto the carpetted floor with an oomf, and Malady is left to hover in mid-air.

It screams and wails in terror, absolute unmitigated terror at the events. Paestri just stares in wonder and confusion at everything going on. A single point of light shoots out from the face's forehead, aligning perfectly with that of Paestri's.

The Legend's eyes begin to glow, her irises radiating an eerie halo of light as she is given visions. Visions of a woman with pink hair and chocolate skin waving her arms and summoning odd shades and tones from the four corners of the world. Wisps and smokes and clouds of every manner and size are sucked into bottles, cans, jars, and as soon as the lid is sealed they take a solid form.

Creatures without heads, tiny deformed figures, grotesque animals with too many appendages and faceless dolls lie trapped within transparent containers.

Somehow, Paestri knew what they were just by looking at them. Bravery, Despair, Agony, Hope, Memories, Fear, Desperation, Violence, Fury, Mourning, Love... there was no need for labels.

They're Intangibles, dear one. Not yours, but those who request for your aid. Some Intangibles are generic, those that you drew from random strangers, from passerbys, from kibbitzers.

"Mine?" Paestri found herself asking.

Yours? Why it's Malady of course. You learned how to separate your own Intangibles from yourself. Unlike the rest of your kind who was incapable of accomplishing this feat.

Malady whimpered and moaned, wrapping itself around Paestri's arms. It didn't like all the shaking and the noise.

Dear one, that is all I shall bestow upon you for now. Your memories shall return, slowly but surely. Until then, stay out of trouble. You may not regret any action you make now, but you shall eventually.

And with that the locket snaps shut. Paestri was still on the floor, staring up now at the ceiling rather than the face. She blinks for a few moments, trying to reach out for Malady to stroke it. The tips of her fingers stings, yet she doesn't pull back. Her eyes close and she falls asleep.

Come the morning, Huni enters the room to find Paestri had grown!

Paestri

D, L, M, and oh P!

Paestri skipped towards the Legends HQ that day with an extra spring in her step. She was looking forward to seeing new Legends or old ones who have yet to find out she had grown. Malady was with her, naturally, it just didn't seem right not to have it around.

Malady was draped over Paestri's shoulders like an odd stole, its red eyes glowering at everyone that walked by.

"Why are we going there of all places?" it whined.

"Because this is where I met Prana, Gyre, Breena, Eeenie, Mayu, Kevin an' Suds, Chandra, Vava and Loki." she giggled.

Loki had come to the HQ not to seek others in general, but to seek out Mayu. He had left that damn doll at home sitting in his drawer, shuddering at the thought. It wasn't the fact that it was a voodoo doll that frightened him; it was the fact that Mayu, of all the ones to have given him a gift, had given him the doll.

Stepping into the HQ, Loki's face soured as he plopped himself onto the couch, wrinkling his nose. Ink had been here last time he had made himself comfortable on furniture, and not to mention he had recently been in a fight with Demare. The mark on his forehead proved it.

"What now?" He hissed, tilting his head to the side as he felt his lizard-spirit scuttle around in his scarf.

Mayu had found her way to the Legend headquarters once again, a new bunny hat pulled over her head. Kimiko had run out and bought a replacement for her after the.. incident.

In actuality, her new haircut wasn't that bad -- it was nice not having such long hair to brush through every morning. She couldn't stand the charred smell, though.

Pushing open the doors of the HQ, Mayu took a quick peek inside, trying to see if anyone was there. There were two, her friend Paestri.. and Loki.

At first, Paestri wasn't sure how to react upon seeing Loki. He was just so... different from the last time she saw him. And when Mayu came in, Paestri was stunned to find her other friend was just as different! All in a good way of course.

"Mayu!!!" she squealed first, after all the other pink Legend had changed far more than Loki did (at least in her opinion). "Loki!" she chirped with just as much enthusiasm. It was wonderful to find her two friends were her at the same time!

Malady on the other hand wasn't as thrilled by the company. It remembered fragments of Loki, mainly because of how he tasted but Mayu was a total stranger to it. It sneered at both and resorted to coiling around Paestri's waist like a belt, hissing at both of them.

Having reached up to toy with his shorter hair again, Loki let his hands drop as soon as he had seen Mayu, growling with great displeasure.

His hair could stay up a bit unkempt, at the moment. The hyena boy had other matters to attend to.

"Mayu." He allowed a small smile, standing up and walking over to her, reaching up to shove the hat from her head. "One such as you shouldn't hide such pretty hair."

Lue peeked out from the scarf with his beady lizard eyes, giving Malady a dirty look. She was no such spirit, and this made him more than just a bit uneasy.

Mayu grimaced as the hat was snatched from her head, dropping down to reach for it. "Nice to see you again," she forced out through clenched teeth. She wasn't a bit over the hair thing.

She waved at Paestri, however, replying back with a happy chirp of "Pae!" She hadn't seen the pink-haired girl since the closet incident, and that was when they were both toddlers!

"You look different." Paestri states with a grin before skipping towards both Loki and Mayu. "But a good sort of different." she adds giggling before glomping Mayu.

"And and I changed too!" she beams, releasing the silver haired Legend from her embrace and twirling on her heels. "How have you been Loki? Is Vava with you?" she asks, if she had noticed the tension between Mayu and Loki she doesn't seem to show it.

"And I'm just chopped liver." Malady mutters loud enough for both all three Legends to hear.

Loki moved to step on Mayu's hat, but stopped short when he heard Paestri address him, eyes slanting to the side. "Vava...? No, I haven't seen him, nor anyone for that matter..." Crossing his arms, Loki ran his fingers across the bandages that hid his lava-like arm, ignoring Lue for the moment.

"Is it really? Is that why you send love tokens, Mayu?" Loki rolled his eyes.

Mayu snatched the hat from its spot on the ground and dusted it off before placing it back on her head.

"Yeah.. It's a good change. I can finally come to the HQ alone now!" She smiled, remembering back to just a few weeks ago when she still had to be with her guardian to go.. well, anywhere.

"Love tokens?" Mayu asked, confused. "If you're talking about the doll, that was not a love token."

In other circumstances, Paestri would have changed the subject by now. She would have noted that Mayu and Loki weren't getting along well and that she should do something about it. She would have led them to the sofas and asked they sit down. In other circumstances, Paestri would have been capable of feeling awkwardness, and unease.

However, this was not such a circumstance.

"You gave Loki a doll? What kind of doll was it? And why didn't I get one?" she asked with a teasing wink. "So what would you have given him if it was supposed to be a love token?"

Malady groaned, "They obviously don't want to be disturbed. Why don't we leave and come back another day? When there's no one around?" the Intangible suggested in sarcasm.

"One does not spend time on details and the like if it is not a love token, dear Mayu. Perhaps we should speak of this more in private?" Taking her hand gently, Loki kissed the back of it, his lips feeling as if they were on fire.

"Dearest Paestri... you look lovely." An arm wrapped around the black girl's shoulders as he stepped away from the tree girl, letting her hand drop.

A mischevious spark glinted in those crimson eyes of his.

"It was a voodoo doll," Mayu scowled, "with its head torn off. Obviously NOT a love token." She would remember, however, to send Paestri one of her.. better creations.

The Legend would have torn her hand away in disgust if she was not staring at it in disbelief. ...Gross. Grabbing Paestri's arm, she yanked the girl over to her side. "Sorry, Pae," she whispered, then stated in a louder voice, "She's with me." She shot Loki a glare.

Paestri let out a soft squeak of delight upon seeing Loki kiss Mayu's hand. Awwww, just like in those romantic books her mama reads and pretends not to like because it's not believable but the red-head still keeps a lot in stock. She giggled and clapped softly, before blushing at Loki's compliment.

"Thank you, Loki. I think you look better with longer hair though." She adds, she was being honest after all. "But you look good with short hair too."

Blinking, Paestri suddenly finds herself by Mayu's side and giggles.

"It's alright, I was just joking about the doll." she smiles, "And I like the rabbit hat. It's cute, and it suits you."

Malady rolled its eyes and perched atop Paestri's head, "Okay so everyone looks good. Hooray! Break out the sparkly drinks and lets get this thing over and done with!!" it snaps.

Lue, having used Loki's arm as a distraction, now climbed up on Paestri's head and perched next to Malady, now giving Mayu a rather devilish grin. He was eyeing her nose.

"Perhaps I did not make myself clear, wench." Loki smiled softly, though his tone had a low bite to it. As he walked around them both, his wings fluttered slightly, not having seen much day as of lately. Fingers loosely caressed the ends of his scarf, as if welcoming the flame from them.

It was then that he noticed the strap on Paestri's arm, and stopped altogether, staring at it with disbelief. "Y... you kept it...?"

"Thank you," Mayu gave a smile to Paestri. She honestly didn't really like wearing hats, but at least it kind of helped with the charred smell that frilly shampoo couldn't erase.

She had just noticed Malady perched upon Paestri's head, and nodded. "Nice... thingamabobber."

She wasn't quite sure what it was, and felt that the word "thingamabobber" would be most proper to describe it. She shot a sharp glare at the lizard-thing perched next to it, remembering what had happened last time. She covered her nose with one hand, just in case it would attempt something like that again.

"Mama said you shouldn't call a girl a "wench" becuase it's not nice." Paestri found herself stating. There was no malice, no hint of scolding, it was said in a very matter-of-fact tone. She peered up as best as she could to see what it was that was on her head with Malady.

"What's that?" she asked, pointing to Lue. When Loki spoke about the leather strap on her arm, she blushed slightly. "Uh huh, it finally fit me properly so I thought it would be nice to wear it and show you."

Malady was curiously interested in why Mayu covered her nose upon seeing the lizard-thing. "I ain't no thingamabobber, or whatever the hell else you might call me. I'm Malady." it introduced, about damn time someone notice it.

"Mmmm." Loki glanced away, for once, at a loss for words.

Lue snickered, turning his beady eyes on Malady as fire danced across his lizard skin.

"Very well, Malady then." Mayu nodded to the thing, but felt the need to tag on a short phrase. "... still a thingamabobber, though."

She kept her nose covered in case the thing tried a sneak attack later on, and tugged on a hanging ear from her hat idly.

Paestri was supposed to ask Loki something when she felt an odd warmth on her head then began to smell something bad. And then the warmth became unbearable and she let out a loud screech as her hands shot up to the source of the pain. Her hair was on fire!

"And I already told you I ain't- AAAAAAAAUUUUUUGGGGHHHH!!!!" Malady shrieked and began to twist and stretch in agony. The flames weren't the cause, it was Paestri's pain.

"LUE!" Loki snarled, grabbing the lizard and glaring, right before catching Paestri's arm and pulling her to him.

"Calm," He hissed, drawing his hand over the flames and pulling them out, letting them attach to his scarf. "Lue, you and your damn spirit-ticks..."

Lue glowered, hunkering over on the floor.

..What what? Burning? There was a fire in Paestri's hair!

"Don't worry Pae, I'll go get water!" Mayu dashed off, returning a moment later with a large jug of water. She tossed it over the girl's head a second before realizing she was too late.

"...Oops. I'll go get a towel."

Paestri's eyes stung with tears as the fire was extinguished, but they were soon washed away by the jug of water Mayu poured over her head. It did help soothe the pain, although it left the pink Legend wet. Strands of her hair clung to her face as she coughed and gasped.

"I-I'm okay, r-really." She assured them, instinctively reaching out to feel the extent of the fire's damage. There was one particular spot that felt singed beyond hope, and she supposed she'd have to get her hair cut now. "What happened?"

Malady, however, was taking it far worse than Paestri. It was wailing and screaming out profanities like it knew no other words. It curled on top of Paestri's head, sobbing and moaning in horror and disbelief. What had she done to deserve this? It wasn't fair, it wasn't right!

"It's all your fault!!" it snarled, tendrils shooting out at both Loki and Lue though it merely passed straight through them.

Loki turned away, his fist clenched. He really had nothing to say to either of them, and in a helpless gesture, reached up and fiddled with his blonde hair, tying it up to splay down the sides of his head.

Without another word, he turned to walk off.

Mayu returned with a towel she had scavenged from one of the guest bedrooms just in time to see Loki leave. She quirked an eyebrow and waved, then helped mop some of the water off of Paestri's face. She handed the towel to the girl, giving a weak smile.

"Thank you," Paestri replied shakily accpting the towel. "Loki? Where are you going?" she called out, why was he leaving? She hadn't even gotten to talk to him well. She turned to Mayu in confusion, "Did I say something wrong?"

"If he's taking that stupid freak reptile with him then LET him!" Malady spat.

"I'm less of a freak than you are, Malady," Lue murmured, giving the smoke a rather gruesome grin. "At least I have others to call my own." Glancing to his master, Lue shook his head and followed suit, scampering on all fours.

Mayu shook her head. "Don't think so..."

Of course, she had been gone for a while, rummaging through the rooms for a nice towel. Maybe Paestri had said something rude, though she doubted it.

She took a seat on the sofa, looking over to the other girl. She wasn't quite sure of what to say at an awkward moment like this.

"Then why is he leaving? He didn't do anything wrong?" She asked still thoroughly confused about everything. The pain was reduced to a dull thud, and she could ignore it if she placed the soaked towel on the area.

Malady rolled its eyes, "******** you and your others!"

Mayu shrugged, as she was quite lost in all of this. The.. last thought she remembered having was of fire, and then it all became a blur as she frantically dashed through the building to find water and towels.

"Thingamabobbers shouldn't swear!" she spoke up, peering at Malady.

Paestri joined Mayu on the sofas, still holding the towel to her head. "Why'd Loki kiss your hand?" she suddenly asks, her confusion ebbing away.

"I can swear as much as I want!!" Malady stuck its tongue out at Mayu before hiding between Paestri's back and the sofa.

"I honestly don't know," Mayu said, still shuddering. "Is your hair okay?" she asked, taking a look at the top of Paestri's head.

The silver haired Legend retaliated with a raspberry of her own, then looked back up to Paestri.

"I don't know, how does it look?" Paestri asks, removing the towel to give Mayu a better look at her hair. There was one spot where the hair had to be cut away, though.

Demare stepped into the headquarters quietly, having left his book at home for once. He needed a break, and a walk seemed like the perfect way to stretch and get some fresh air. Before he knew it, he was at the Legend Headquarters, and the memory of his fight with Loki had struck his mind. He smelled something burning from outside, and had hoped he would be here so that he could apologize to the hyena boy.

Instead, he only found a soaked Paestri, an irritated Malady, and... Mayu giving the spirit-like creature a raspberry. Why was the pink haired girl sopping wet...? He didn't say anything as he cautiously made his way toward the couch, worried that one of them might be upset.

Mayu stood up to assess the damage done to Paestri's hair, then sat back down.

"It looks fine," she reassured her, "Except there's this one spot of hair that you need to cut off. Heck, it's better than what happened to mine."

Taking the towel from Paestri, Mayu helped her sop off more water from her drenched hair. "I'm going to go get a dry towel from another one of the bedrooms, so you can wrap your hair up. It'll help it dry faster." she said, getting up and whipping around to face Demare.

"Okay then." Paestri nods, before noticing Demare enter. "Demare!" She smiles, remembering the boy from the park. "Look Mal, it's Demare!"

"I don't care!" Malady snorted.

Mikhael paused outside the door of the Legends' Headquarters. He certainly didn't feel like he belonged there. He'd only been there once or twice, and he could barely remember the instances. "Raife..."

The man with the shock white hair and disturbingly pale complexion nudged him in through the front door. "It'll be okay. You're grown up now. Practically a man."

Mikhael giggled at that one.

"Okay, so, not practically a man. But you can handle people now. You've been through so much. It's important that you take steps like this." Raife shrugged his shoulders in a distinctly gallic gesture. "Go on. I'm just going to run some errands. I'll be back soon for you, so if there's trouble, just sit tight."

Mikhael nodded and pushed the doors open. ...Everything seemed so much smaller now.

Demare smiled a little bit as Mayu almost ran into him, his first instinct to hug the tree girl. However, he remained how he was, unsure of whether it would be okay or not.

"Hey Mayu," he said happily, then turned his eyes to the pink haired girl on the couch. "Hey P--..."

He blinked a few times, his face taking on a more concerned look as he noticed her hair. "Paestri, what happened to you?"

His attention was once again diverted as another boy entered the room, this one quite unfamiliar. He'd never seen anyone like him before, and couldn't help but think that he looked rather... fluffy.

"Hi," Mayu smiled, and handed him the soppy towel in her arms. "Hold this for a sec, will ya?"

She didn't linger behind to give the boy a chance to shove the towel back, and headed off towards the hallway. She stopped for a moment, however, to wave to the new arrival. She hadn't seen this kid before.

"Oh my hair caught on fire." Paestri chirps, as if the entire thing was as ordinary as leaves falling. "Loki and Mayu helped put it out." she adds, before noticing another boy enter. Another winged boy! Would all the boys (with an exception to Kevin) that she meets here have wings?

"Hello there, I'm Paestri. Who are you?" she asks brightly.

Oh no, not another one! This place was getting too crowded for the Intangible as it peered over Paestri's shoulders.

Mikhael shrank back a bit unconsciously as everyone seemed to stare at him as he came into the headquarters. See? This was what he was trying to avoid. He shook his head to clear it. Best to be polite. He was raised right, and Raife'd be disappointed if he showed otherwise.

"Mikhael." He tried smiling a bit. It was a trembling, shy smile. He tried to remind himself that this was just the same as Muse Society.

And then he remembered how hard his first few days had been, and swallowed. That wasn't helpful at all. His wings jerked closed just a little mechanically, as he tried to withdraw into himself.

Demare's own wings twitched and fidgetted a little bit as he smiled, noticing that the boy seemed rather shy. Mikhael...? That was similar to his past brother's name...

"It's nice to meet you, Mikhael," he said, holding out a hand to him in case he wanted to shake hands. "My name is..." He thought about it for a moment, and decided to go with the better choice. "My name is Clare."

Mayu returned with a large red towel, handing it over to Paestri so that she may wrap it around her hair. Taking the wet towel back from Demare, she scurried off once again to find a laundry bin of some sort.

Paestri smiled and waved at Mikhael, "It's nice to meet you." There came a sharp stinging sensation from the area where her hair was singed, and the pink Legend found herself not feeling too well. "I think I have to go home now, sorry I can't stay longer."

She looked a little tired and a bit ill at that and went to look for Mayu to say goodbye. Once she had found the other girl she gave her a hug before proceeding to give Demare and Mikhael a goodbye hug as well.

"Maybe we'll see each other again." She smiles as brightly as she could despite the pain. She was still carrying the red towel however.

Malady was whimpering as it clung to Paestri's back like some sort of bag.

"We're going home! NOW!" it ordered.

End of RP for Paestri

Singed Cream Puff

"I'm home." Paestri declared weakly as she passed through the doors. Her movements were sluggish, almost lethargic, quite unlike her normally chipper mood. How could they know or understand the confusion going through her mind?

Certainly Malady's own reactions would be enough, but no one in the house seemed to know it existed. No one could see or hear its frantic, erratic, borderline psychotic rants and shriekes. Only Paestri.

The pink Legend nursed the towel on her head, the dull throbbing still there. She rested in one of the plush armchairs and tried to make herself comfortable. She wasn't one to complain, even though it hurt.

"Tita Paaeee!!!" Arya cheered as she rushed onto the Legend's lap. "Tita tita tita where've you beeeeeen?" she asked.

"Hmm? I was at the HQ, I told mom about it." She answered with a small wince.

"Why do you have that towel on your head? Huh? Huh? Huh?" The passenger continued, prodding the said article of clothing.

"Can't you ******** see she's not feeling well!? Shut it and let her rest!!" Malady hollered, wishing its tendrils could strangle the little girl into silence. Naturally all it could do was curse in frustration as it failed to touch Arya.

"Now, now, R. Your tita Pae looks like she needs a nap, maybe she had so much fun she wore herself out." Linneas laughed as he scooped the little girl into his arms.

Arya squirmed in resistance, she didn't like being carried, nor was she ready to relinquish her grip on Paestri. Her hands grabbed at her aunt's clothes and ended up yanking the red towel off her head. Revealing the singed portion of Paestri's hair.

Linneas stiffened at the sight, "Pae? What happened to you?" he asked, lowering Arya to the floor.

The Passenger quickly climbed back into the chair to cover Paestri's hair with the towel again.

"She was out in the sun too long, duh." Malady rolled its eyes, "Some freak got her hair on fire, what did you think?"

"I went to the HQ, saw Mayu, Loki, Demare and this new boy named Mikhael. And then Loki gestured at me and suddenly I felt something on my head and then my hair was on fire." The Legend explained tiredly.

"Loki did this?" The Tale narrowed his eyes, "I knew he'd be nothing but trouble. We're going to see him tomorrow. Where is that phonebook? I don't care if I have to call everyone! We will give that boy a talking to!"

"Arya, I'm tired, I need to go lie down." Paestri explained as she got up. Without bothering to correct Linneas or stop him from wasting his time, she heads up to her room to collapse onto her bed.

Malady lay atop Paestri, spreading out as widely as it could, acting like some sort of living blanket. It noticed the locket was glowing again, and it hissed at the offending piece of jewelry. The Intangible converged upon the locket, and for the time being managed to smother the glow.

However, Malady could do nothing to stop Paestri from dreaming. And dream the young Legend did. She dreamt of wisps and smokes, of laughter and tears, of crude shapes and elegant forms. And somehow, despite this all being a dream, Paestri knew what they were and that she had something to do with them. What exactly, she couldn't remember.

Come dinner time, Paestri was refreshed and acutely aware that she had dreamt. The locket had lost its glow, but it no longer mattered. Pae would try something soon, whether or not it would work she didn't know. There was nothing wrong with trying, right?

"Pae if you have plans for tomorrow, cancel them. We're going to see Loki and Kanth about him burning your hair." Linneas stated, his face set in grim determination.

"Oh my poor baby, does it still hurt? Let me see how bad it is." Huni fawned over the girl.

Paestri took it all in stride and stated she was fine that it was nothing. They still seemed to treat her as if she was still on fire. While the Legend was certain she was fine, she made no attempt at convincing her family of this fact. What was the point, after all.

New Recipes?

Paestri
The face talked to me again last night. Told me stuff, like I shouldn't have showed Loki and Linny and Ka what I can do. I dunno why I shouldn't have, not like anything went wrong. Besides, after a while the cookies and brownies become ordinary cookies and brownies. Anyway, I tell the face I'm sorry and that I'll never do it again unless Malady says it's okay.

When does Mal ever say anything is okay, though? So, the face tells me I have new things to try out. But they're all stored in my locket, and I dunno how to get them out just yet. The locket still says when it wants to open or not, so I guess I just have to wait, then? In the meantime, I've been trying to gather more Intangibles, but I don't have anywhere to put them. Maybe old pickle jars?

Pickle Jars?

The Stationery Store was quiet, as it always was whenever it was half-past noon. People were out in restaurants, cafes, or jsut in their own home having lunch or washing up. At one pm those who stayed home would be tempted to nap or have a lovely little siesta. Yes, it would be -yet another- lazy afternoon in Barton, but that wasn't such a bad thing.

Especially not for Paestri.

Meeting Keita

Paestri was allowed to go back to the Legends HQ by herself, but only after being warned to watch out for dangerous Legends. Or anyone dangerous. The pink-haired girl smiled and nodded without flinching, though Malady was beyond annoyed at the constant reminders. She ventured down the streets that led to the large building that contained many fond memories. Perhaps even only fond memories for the young girl.

Malady, on the other hand, did not share the sentiments. It hated coming here. To the Intangible, the HQ was a place where evil gathered to inflict horrible pain upon its Madam.

"Why do you want to go back to that hellish shack?" It whined.

"I have to return the towel I borrowed," Paestri explained, holding out the designated piece of cloth. It would strike people odd that she was talking to herself, after all, it seemed only fellow Legends could see or hear Malady.

Keita was very much a child of the day. His beautiful twin, though he loved her very much, was a child of the night- an unfortunate fact that left Keita often at loose ends, since he steadfastly avoided the lessons taught by Britain's house staff. It was natural for him to be outside, bare feet slipping through the grass as if it were water; he didn't like to be cooped up indoors.

Since he was almost always outside, no one in the house particularly missed him when he decided to go for a walk. The sun was warm in his hair, making him peaceful in that drowsy way one only finds on pleasant days. With a sigh of contentment, he had laid himself out flat in the grass outside of the HQ- batting absently at the ladybugs that followed him wherever he went. The sound of Paestri's voice caught his attention...was she talking to herself...?

The stag-child sat up, oblivious to the grass that clung cheerfully to his hair. Alert green eyes watched her carefully- there was something odd, but he couldn't exactly place what it was. He kept his voice low, as if to not disturb his surroundings.

"If you're talking to the birds, I'm sorry to say I don't think they're listening."

Paestri paused in supriise upon hearing Keita speak. Tilting her head to the side, she stared at him briefly before breaking into a smile. "Oh I wasn't talking to the birdies," she giggles, "I was talking to Malady." And she gestured to the gray mist that was perched on her shoulders like a noncorporeal parrot.

"I'm Paestri, what's your name?" She didn't beat around the bush, did she?

Malady narrowed its crimson eyes at Keith. Another one, it groaned, was it too much to ask that the HQ be empty so that they could go back without being detained by anyone else? Malady doubted it and promptly stuck its tongue out at the young boy.

The forest child gave his new companion a slow blink, head tilted slightly so that one of his soft ears was sticking slightly up into the air. With the sun dappling his golden brown hair, ladybug flying in to perch on one of his antlers, he thought he could just about believe anything- so he took her at her word, and smiled. One knee came up so that he could rest his arm across it, fingers idly petting at the grass.

"Nice to meet you, Malady," he said solemnly, not bothering to hide the twinkle in his eyes. "Nice to meet you as well, Paestri. I'm Keita. My sister isn't here today, but she's Aureli."

It was odd for him to introduce someone who wasn't there...but his pale sister was such a part of him that it was uncomfortable to leave her out of the conversation!

When Keita made no motion to stand, Paestri thought being seated on the grass must be more comfortable than she had originally believed.

"Can I join you?" she asks, gesturing to the grass beside him. "And you can actually see Mal?" the young girl gasps in delight. She shouldn't be surprised, after all most of the children she met at the HQ were like her and thus capable of seeing Malady. Still, it was a pleasant thing to know she wasn't the only one who saw the unhappy and unpleasant Intangible. "When does your sister come here, Keita?"

My, she was certainly full of questions, wasn't she?

Malady narrowed its eyes in even more suspicion, it preferred being told what not to do or being threatened as opposed to people being nice to it.

"Grass is for everybody," Keita replied comfortably, motioning to a soft patch nearby. Paestri was cute, sorta fluffy...most of the girls he'd encountered were a bit harder, a bit colder, or mysterious and distant like Aureli. He wasn't sure if he preferred the change overall, but she certainly was WARMER company than he'd gotten used to.

He gave her question a bit of consideration- it was rare for him to rush into any answer, as he saw no particular reason to throw out information as quick as someone asked. This was more of a personal preference, one that had nothing to do with who was asking. "Not so much SEE him," he replied, glancing at her to see if he'd gotten the gender right. "More like...I can just tell there's somethin' there that isn't usually.

As that was the best explanation he could give, he shrugged and moved on to the next question. "We don't usually come here at all, but if anything she'd be here at night- Aureli sleeps through most of the sunlight."
