Gaius' smile grew a bit forced as he tried to continue looking pleasant, despite only understanding half of what Millar babbled and feeling rather confused. "Noooo, it's not a grave... We're building a theater. What you're looking at is the storage space that'll be beneath the stage, for props and if we have a trap door..."

Giving Miller a quick look over, it seemed the guy was decently fit. Kinda scrawny, but that's like because he was young. Still, if he could get roped in...

"So, what part would you like to help with? I could use someone cutting out the support beams..."

Miller was unaware how hard it was to understand him, and Gaius' fake smile passed for Miller as understanding. "Thearterz? Inzterezing..." He moved over a bit so he could see the bit being dug more clearly. He turned to look at Gaius making a bleh face.

"Diz changingz donze somtinz, I feelz likz I been workinz all dayz long with zee achez I gotz."

The winged horse-man patted his feathered companion on the shoulder. "It's probably just your muscles sore or something! That, or maybe you're out of shape..." he smirked. "Maybe not sawing then. How about hammering? You can start nailing some of the planks together for the sides?"

Miller shook his head slowly, "Iz worze den zee muzleez, iz deeper. Likz me armz iz gonaz znap in havez if Iz do too muzch." And indeed it was his bones that bothered him, but he had yet to get anything for them, after all he wasn't even sure him self if it was his bones. "Iz guezz I coulz hammaz zomthing for bitz..."

"That's the spirit!" Gaius cheered, slapping Miller lightly on his lumpy shoulder and pointing him in the direction of the wood pile. "It's easy enough, just line up some planks from that pile and lay a longer beam along the top edge and hammer 'em in. And if you get tired, just rest. Just make sure you follow the blueprints! They're, uh..." Gaius craned his long neck up, looking around before spotting Billy with the papers. "Over there! The octopus has them. If you do what they say, you can't go wrong!"

Miller only followed Gaius' indication of Billy for a moment before looking the other way again, his brain didn't even want to begin comprehending what he just saw. He stumbled slightly at the larger mans slap on the shoulder, even if it was light Miller still was a quite a bit smaller then him. "Aightz, dozntz zeem to hardz..."

A most curious sound had attracted Seth's attention as he went about his usual wanderings. It wasn't occuring in 'his' territory exactly, although... he literally stopped in his tracks as he heard the racket, ears attentive, bright eyed, his tail going stiff and rigid as he listened hard to the noises. He heard sawing, hammering, and voices amongst the other noises he couldn't readily identify. The noises were distant, but his acute hearing let him hear the racket quite easily.

For a moment he was a little edgy at the sound of the voices. He could not hear what was being said exactly, but he heard the tone of voices. He quickly shrugged off his instinctive nervousness however, his curiousity quickly overriding everything else. He glanced down at the bottle of whiskey he had been carrying along with him and briefly pondered burying it beside the path he was on. He decided against it almost as quickly as the thought arose, as he might not find it again, and it was a good brand, his last open bottle as well. He carried it with him as he turned off his path and headed into the village to investigate the cacophony further.

As he approached the group, his curiousity grew with each passing moment. He saw people he didn't recognise, and some that he only vaguely remembered at best.

"G'day there," He said casually as he finally wandered into the immediate construction area. "So what's all this racket about then, ey? I could hear you lot bangin' away from the other side of the island, just about." His eyes immediately fell on an unused shovel some metres on the ground away from him, and his heart skipped a beat. It was perfect for his plans. If only he could get it when they weren't looking...

This was going to be very interesting to say the least.

After Gaius had left for a break, Oz took a short break himself, leaning on his upright shovel as he caught his breath. But what surprised him was the speed at which he regained himself. Sure, his shirt was absolutely soaked with sweat and he genuinely felt sorry for Gaius, but this was easier going than expected. He abandoned his post only for a few minutes to stock himself up on bottles of water and fruit (plus a sneaky muffin he'd consumed on his way back from the cafeteria).

Refuelled, he was ready to go again, lifting dirt with envious ease.

(I'm going to fast-forward the RP a little bit here, since we don't need to RP ALL of the construction, and people are free to do as they like. If you want, you can assume your person returned to help other days, or whatever you like. And feel free to add in mishaps! The construction was likely closed down for Christmas day, so now things are after Christmas... And if it's okay, I'm assuming Seth is showing up after Christmas now, just to keep him in and work with everything.)

Gaius, looked up from the planks he was hammering together to the gruff voice coming from the edge of the work site. What, was it Billy again? But he wasn't that loud...

Wiping a hand over his forehead, he pushed back some clinging black locks. Setting aside his tools, he approached the fellow standing near the supplies. "Hello?" he ventured. "Ah, sorry about that, we're busy with construction, you see..." He waved a hand towards the area behind him. A large rectangle in the ground was in process of being dug out, some wooden beams already stuck into place at two of the corners. "We're building a theater! Would you happen to be interested in helping?"

((It's quite OK to assume that. I just reordered some posts around in the journal to change his arrival to after Christmas. Works out goodly actually.))

-------

Seth's expression was highly curious as Gaius approached him. He vaguely remembered seeing the odd-looking fellow once or twice before in passing, but still couldn't help but think how strange he looked.

"We're all strange looking here, I guess..."

"Oh, don't worry 'bout that, mate. I don't care too much about the racket," Seth gave the strange looking winged man one of his rather silly looking toothy grins. "I wasn't asleep, so it doesn't matter. But... what kind of theater are you buidling here, exactly? I kinda doubt some of the people here would wanna put on stage plays and make a spectacle out of themselves. And I'm guessing most people here are too old for a puppet theater." He smirked as he made the last statement, turning his attention to the rest of the construction site as Gaius motioned to the area with his hand. All manner of building tools and supplies were in the area. He wasn't much fond of the idea of doing manual labour, but at the very least, it would give him something to do. And he would also be able to get his paws on a shovel or two...

"Yeah sure, why the bloody hell not," He nodded. "I ain't got nothin' better to do, I'll help out you lot for a while. Just tell me where to start and I'll hop to it."

Gaius' manner remained friendly, not privvy to Seth's inner thoughts to his current state. Though the man's grin did raise an eyebrow slightly. That and the tail sticking out behind him... what had a tail like that? A kangaroo? Or maybe a dinosaur... No, mixing animals to create fantasy creatures, and even plants were one thing, but even Moreau couldn't bring back what was long dead now.

"You'd be surprised to know we're already holding auditions, with a couple people interested at that!" he smirked, not rising to Seth's teasing. "It'll be an outside theater... With all the people on this island, there's bound to be people willing to show off a little talent."

He motioned the guy over towards one of the wood piles, his naturally wide grin growing even more with the prospect of another set of hands. "We're actually in need of someone to help put together sections of stage walls, if you're interested! Just stick some boards to the beam like I'm doing, and make sure they're good and tight together. Nails and hammer are over in the tool pile," he said, waving the man towards some boxes sitting near the shovel he'd been eyeing, "and if there's anything else you need, feel free to help yourself!"

Of course, he was referring to things like nails and other necessities of the project... he had no idea what the man was planning, or even suspected he was up to anything. Instead, he gave the gangly older guy a hearty, thankful pat on the shoulder, then set off to check how the others were doing while he was up.

Another Christmas alone, this one even more alone than the last. At least last year, he could drown his sorrows with work mates and even managed a meager Christmas dinner. But he was only to blame for this one. He'd avoided the Christmas party and chose beer as his bedfellow.

No major hangover to speak of and a strangely desperate urge to be with others, Oz had a quick hot shower and threw some of his scruffier clothing on. He'd been prey to some feverish nightmares, once more consisting of only flashes of teeth, of claws, of blood, of bone. Nothing about them made sense, and the ache within his muscles upon waking made even less sense.

It must be a summer flu or something. I hope it isn't bird flu or cta flu...

A quick painkiller raid at the medical centre, and a food raid from the cafeteria, Oz arrived at the construction site, rolling his shoulders to loosen up his muscles. He looked around for anyone he knew, or anyone to help.

It was about this time that Marshall, still a little weary from yesterday's festivities, found himself yet again on the construction site. Despite the fact that he detested physical labor, it gave him some thing to do. Besides, it was actually kind of fun when he didn't have to dig holes. The bird-boy released a small yawn as he looked around, seeing a familiar, all be it newer, face.

"G'mornin' Ozzy." Marshall said, waving with his 'bad' hand, the one that was practically a flipper.

Gaius rounded towards the table he kept the blueprints on, needing to make sure the framework was all going in as planned. Once that got underway, things would start coming together...

Hearing Marshall's call, he craned his long neck up, bending it farther than would be humanly possible, and caught Oz out of the corner of his eye. He smiled, then turned back to the plans. Another day of work...

Marshall was hard to miss, even for Oz's flu-clogged brain. He smiled as he walked over, that image of the penguin boy leaping a mile in his feathers the other night providing entertainment.

"So I'm not so scary today then?" he teased.

Oz did not look as well as he could have. Sure, grey skin wasn't exactly fashionable or healthy looking, but he looked particularly sallow and baggy eyed. A little clammy too.
