"Go!" Artemis screamed while pulling on her slow moving mother's arm. Her bright blue eyes and dark curls seemed soft and kind and sweet. Well she was most of the time, but Art had decided that she needed to be at headquarters.

And not just any old time in the future.

NOW. She insisted.

Ari looked at the little girl and her pouting eyes and couldn't resist as she picked up the toddler in case she fell. She was good at not falling but she still did time to time, so Ari felt better picking her up.

It wasn't easy, let me tell you. Artemis started squirming and kicking, as if Ari wasn't moving at a brisk walk as it was.

Ari sighed, this is what she had become, a woman following the demands of a child who looked about two or three.

When they reached the shop Ari felt bad about entering at such an hour and prayed that the police didn't come by thinking she was breaking in. It was easy enough once inside the shop, with the door to HQ wide open she walked in and sat Art down.

"See sweetie? We're here, now what is all of this about?" Ari asked the child but looked around instead. The place seemed off somehow.

Art clug to Ari's leg tightly, hiding her face behind her mother as if it was the strongest and most powerful barrier in the world. She seemed scared.

Ari looked around to see if any one was about.

Danny was far too busy having a heart attack to be paying attention to much of the going-ons. Earthquakes went way, waaaay into her panic zone. Probably measuring up somewhere near being stuck in a dark room full of strangers, non-humans, and things made of magic way beyond her normal belief system.

The only thing that kept her from an all-out anxiety attack, no doubt, was the dark-skinned girl that was encouraging the plants on the bar counter. She had higher priorities than fear; she had to make sure Vana was okay. Swallowing down fear-thickened spit, Danny sagged against the counter and whispered- "It's okay, babe, we're okay, see? It's gonna be okay...."

"Chrrrp?" Blinking violet eyes, Vanaja still hadn't found anything wrong with the shaking, dark, troubled world around her. Just the poor plants, one or two of which seemed to be drooping slightly under the stress of the building chaos. Poor things.

"Hey, um," Dixie muttered as she tried to approach the crystal-carrying woman. Wait, what was she doing? A blackout and an indoor earthquake were not reasons to stick around.

It was then that she noticed the... dullness.

She had only been back here twice since obtaining Alek's wand, but the place certainly hadn't seemed so faded before.

Alek hummed softly and worriedly as Dixie approached the nearly colorless corner. "What's going on here?" she asked.

((If your character steps into the greying area, please state so clearly in your post. Otherwise, it's assumed they're standing at the edge and watching it. 3nodding ))

The god's eyes widened as several books fell onto his toes, and he bit back a yelp of equal parts surprise and pain. He recoiled a little, half-expecting a full shower of more hardcovers, and accidentally managed to drop Nordri in the process.

The dinner plate-sized crab hit the floor with a thump, and then set about flailing his legs everywhere in an effort to find something that he could brace against to right himself.

Aurrek in the meanwhile crouched down rub his toes gingerly through his soft boots, then felt around the floor for any of the dropped books.

"H-here, let me help you get these up," he murmured, trying not to pay attention to the building commotion around himself. Seriously, he had come here for a break.... Oh well, just his luck.

Nataki clapped a hand over her mouth in horror, certainly not meaning to actually drop the books! And on his foot! When the crab hit the floor, she jumped, her heart leaping to her throat. "I-I'm so sorry!" She whispered frantically, dropping to her knees yet again to try and gather up the books. "I'm so sorry," She repeated, one hand frozen over the cover of a particularly thick book, eyes locked onto the flailing little crab.

Swallowing hard and suppressing a whimper, she cautiously extended a hand towards it, squeaking slightly as she tried to flip him over with a jerky little motion. "W-What's going on?" Nataki asked in a hushed, quivering voice, tearing her eyes away from the creature to look at the greying area yet again. Oh-ho, she wasn't going to step in there even if her life depended on it! No, no, she'd simply watch for now--and timidly wonder what exactly she had gotten herself into.

Her mother looked around, her eyebrows together like they always were when something really bad was going on. Art clug close to her mommy, seeing no one about she reconized she felt it was safer the more she clung on.

However her mommy had a differant idea, and picked Art up in order to walk around looking for someone.

She called out "Hello!" and Art attempted to mimick the sound and failed. Some things she still had problems saying, hello being one.

Instead the small girl shouted as loud as she could "Leo!"

((Yes ma'am

Rouge made a final decision now that she'd had a minute to look at the greying area. The woman shrugged once before smoothly striding into the greying area.

((XD Ilu, DG, thank you.))

Stepping into the grey area had a profound effect. The air went strangely stale, as if no slight breeze was able to affect the area gone colorless; the noise of the room changed as well. Human voices outside the grey area became dimmer, though not inaudible. In their place, other sounds trickled in and out of the perimeter of the grey area, tiny noises and scrapes that seemed to originate from no where in particular. These noises were, of course, not able to be heard from those not in the grey area- and, strangely enough, neither were the sounds that Rouge herself now made.

Most subtle for the moment, but no doubt the most alarming, was the fact that apparently, once having crossed over into the grey, one could not travel more than a few feet beyond its creeping boundries....

And now Rouge's shirt was catching the grey. Just swell.

Glancing down at her shirt, which was illuminated by the light of her crystal she blinked a few times. "Well that's the first time I've seen a black shirt turn grey when I walked into a weird area. Its like Pleasantville in reverse."

But what interested her more was the crystal's light. The light-which had been a dull yellowish glow-had taken on a washed out white color. The warm glow it had provided was now a cold white light. Not that Rouge minded. Cold white light was better then none.

Deciding that since she was already in here it was best to test the area and see what the problem was. Reaching out a hand the woman used her long arms to attempt to find exactly how large this grey area was and exactly what was in it.

EDITED:
An additional test of the sound in the area was made by Rouge beginning to sing. She wasn't much good at it but she sure as hell was loud. Her ears could tune into the outer noises. If they could hear her that was good. If not that was interesting.

As the woman stepped straight into the grey, Nataki let out a horrified squeak, clapping both hands over her mouth again--and dropping all those books. Was she crazy?! Scrambling to her feet, the tiny woman fretted anxiously, her hands wrangling one another, wondering just what she should do. "Wh-What--" Her voice trailed off sharply, realizing that the horrid grey stuff had caught a hold of the woman's shirt, too! Gaping, the frizzy blonde scuttled fearfully forward, timidly halting just a few inches from the grey. "M-Ma'am? Please, please, I don't think that's safe! Can...Can you come out now?" Nataki had no clue that the woman was speaking, only able to watch as the woman spread her arms, feeling for something...

Lilianna was about to enter the back room when the power went out. She looked around the pitch dark room nervously, her hawk huddling close to her for some comfort. "It will be alright," she murmured to her companion as she slipped into the back room. She was used to the dark by now and didn't have any trouble in getting around at all. In the backroom, she noticed the many chairs that were gathered around a television set. Lily noticed the dullness of the colors around that area and the hair on her arms immediately stood straight up. "What is going on here?" she muttered under her breath. Her hawk ignored her master's questions as she buried her head in her master's chest, her wings unfolding.

As she began to creep closer to the grey area, she noticed the many voices from beyond the area. The voices were dim, but Lily could still hear then. Just to test what would happen, Lily carefully reached one hand out into the grey area and waited for something to happen.

Dixie stepped back as Rouge's clothes began to change color as well. It hadn't answered her queston, not directly, but she didn't want to risk being infected with the grays. Alek was a concern as well, but despite his initial nervousness, the baby seemed positively calm now. He lay his head on his mother's shoulder and stuck a fist into his mouth.

Shira rushed to get up without being able to finish her unsaid apology toward whomever she'd knocked into, backing up with her brows furrowed in confusion and more nervousness added onto her previous anxiety. Shira stood still for a full ten seconds before turning fully, intention set on leaving the room as quietly as possible just as she came in and to forget all about coming here.

....As soon as she figured out the way she came from.

Shira thought hard before walking in a random direction, wary to watch her step this time and focus ahead of her instead of at her feet. She came in contact with something and examined with eyes and hands. The plush feeling led her to believe it was some piece of furniture. Her eyes had yet to accustom fully to the darkness, but she could tell there were others next to it, along with a dark screen against the wall.

But... Shira looked at the material her hands held, a bland and sickly
grayish color. Everything in this area was pale...and sullen, Shira noted. It was of a neutral tone, but it didn't look natural. Just then the area lightened as a woman holding the only source of light strided in the middle of the area. She seemed to be looking around after standing still for a time. Another woman came towards them and spoke. Shira opened her mouth as if to warn the young lady with glasses, walking towards her.

"Hey! Be careful-" Shira's words caught in her throat as she felt herself yanked back towards the general grey area. Shira yelled in alarm as soon as she was released. "! The hell?!"

Darkness. When had that happened? Stopping in her motion to pick up the books, Kyo straightened and looked over her shoulder in search for Xerksis. Even in this shrouded place, she could make just about everyone out by means of an aura generally unseen. And there was Xerk's- small, indigo, and crackling with yellow apprehension. He was startled by the sudden dousing of lights, obviously. "Xerksis." She called him, reaching out to gently touch what must be his face. The offered hand was latched onto immediately, and the squidling wrenched himself closer even though his eyes were quickly beginning to adjust to the darkness.

Inwardly relieved, the English teacher gathered the toddler up and stood, murmuring a soft excuse while leaving the books she had collected stacked neatly for Nataki. In the dark, a vaguely familiar voice was calling out. Needless to say, any familiarity at the moment was going to make her feel a little less uneasy. Sure, a power outage was an outage, but Kyo had enough of a psyche to tell some other forces were at work. Making no move to disguise her ability while shrouded in this darkness, the woman silently willed her body inches off the floor and began to glide in the direction of the voice. No tripping for her while she had Xerksis, thank you. She'd be able to avoid the people in the dark... unless they bumped into her that was.

"You..." Kyo murmured softly, upon approaching Ari. She might have gotten the wrong person -highly likely, really- but just maybe... There was no face for her to connect the voice to, for most of her memory was very fragmented and unreliable. There were only two auras, one small and one larger. "Don't I know you?" As for the graying area, she'd stay away for the moment. There were forces at work there, and she was perfectly content to stay in the dark rather than risk getting Xerksis hurt by being curious. Seeing what happened to Rouge, or was beginning to, she was grateful she had stayed away.
