I just wanted to mention... to those who say that "Tifa didn't pick her outfit, Nomura did" ... well, realistically, Tifa didn't pick her lines either. That was thanks to the Squaresoft team, or whoever. So saying that she was "motherly" (a point I saw repeatedly) in combination of blaming her outfit on the artist isn't a very strong argument.

I mean, we're all going under the assumption that Tifa is a real person, right?

>>then there is really no reason to hate or like a character at all if everything they do/say/look are up to the person who created them.....every arguments against tifa and every defense for tifa is nulled with the point of "it's not tifa, it's squoresoft/nomura" .....just like with any other character and i will use aerith/aeris as an example (because for some reason people just rivals between the two)...aeris/aerith isn't better/worse than tifa: "it's not aeris/aerith, it's squaresoft/nomura".............but that is not my argument/opinion, it is my rebuttal......

>>>the reason why we take the character's appearance and words as if the character had chosen for himself/herself to is because it connects us with the character as a "person" with self personality and traits and flaws and not some animated character controlled by his/her creator.....with all that said: I'm pro-tifa; the way she looks, what she says, and what she do defines her as tifa for me, even if what she looks/says/do are "flawed" as some people say, it really doesn't matter to me, she's tifa and i like her for being tifa
Look, my point is that people will null any flaw about their character by saying that it was the artist/developer's fault. Therefore, it should not be used in an argument when discussing a character.
And it ALWAYS pops up, the whole issue with her outfit, and the only rebuttal people offer is that it's NOMURA'S FAULT, THAT PERVERT. Then said people will continue to gush how wonderful Tifa's personality is, failing to credit the ones who created her dialogue in the first place.

Yes, what Tifa wears in-game would be deemed inappropriate, Tifa fans, get over it and move on. Don't try to argue it by saying that it was the artist's fault. That's like de-humanizing Tifa herself. rolleyes

I still don't understand how the outfit is inappropriate! Her shirt, if you look in Nomura's drawing, barely shows her stomach. And so what if her skirt is short? Selphie's dress is short and no one complains about that! You even see her panties! scream

If there was one fictional character I would bring into the real world it would be her...

actually, i thought tifa's clothes was better than a lot of characters that you see normally: a white shirt and skirt, doesn't seem very "slutty" to me xp compare to :

>>>Lulu: i don't know about you but she has big umm...."proportions" too and she wears a dress that is cut waaay low....I don't see anyone hating her for that or even complaining about it

>>>Rikku: I love her to death but umm.....a bikini and miniskirt? yeah rolleyes

..........still, i have no problems with either of these characters because of their clothing hence they're on top of my list of favorite characters (and besides, i love their outfit 3nodding )

It hasn't been mentioned that Lulu and Rikku are of the black mage class and thief class, respectively. Their forte doesn't rely on hand-to-hand combat.

Tifa, on the other hand, is a monk, therefore a frontline fighter. Her outfit is appropriate as a barmaid but not so much as a member of AVALANCHE. Of course, everyone will have their own interpretation of THAT.

But all of this is just a far cry from the point I've been trying to prove.

Incidentally, I never said her outfit was slutty. confused

>>>somewhat off topic but....sure i understand about black mages not hvaing hand-to-hand combat (although lulu does "sweeps" down pretty low whenever casting magic [the more powerful ones that is, she uses only one hand when casting level one magic] ninja ).....however for the thief, a lot of moves "require" well, movements and although there is not a whole lot (or none at all?) of kicking, there sure is "flipping" and "jumping"

>>>.....and no, i was not quoting you when i stated the word "slutty" wink

..........and i don't get what "monk" is supposed to refer to?

The monk class is the closest class that resembles Tifa's attributes, just like Aeris' attributes closely reflect the White Mage/Healer/Cleric/take-your-pick class.

As for Rikku, I never played X and X-2. Due to the bad reviews I've heard of them, I'm sticking it in the backburner, so I have no clue about Rikku's movements in the game. HOWEVER, I've heard plenty of arguments about her outfit, just like Tifa, especially when X-2 rolled around.

But alas, this is about Tifa, not Rikku.
I never really did like Rikku's superfluous scarf and arm... things.
Whatever they are.

I the beginning of the game I didn't like Tifa very much. It was her possesive personality that turned me off. I'm still not a fan of her even after seeing her in AC, but I respect her more as I saw her character grow.

I thought for sure I had posted on this one already. I guess not. Anywho, I've always considered Tifa to be one of the hottest chicks in gaming, but I like her for more than that. She's a very compassionate person who ain't afraid to kick your a** if you piss her off. She'd also risk anything for the lives of her friends. She'd stick her neck out for 'em any day of the week. She also seems like one who would be very loyal to the man she loves. To be quite frank, I'd love a girl like that. heart heart heart
