Aphismet’s Diary I called Dr Kyou about Rivener’s condition a while back, the morning after I’d returned from my business trip. It was a little intimidating to speak to him; I’ve never really even talked to Dr Kyou in person before now, I think! He’s like some kind of super-genius, to be able to make the Raevans… I felt really small and stupid to be talking to someone like him, but he was very nice and understanding. He told me that Rivener’s condition is most likely nothing to worry about, just something reacting with either his Essence or Soul… He told me to just keep an eye on Riv and take note of any strange behavior or anything else weird that might happen. So I started keeping notes on random pieces of paper, but I’m pretty sure I’d end up losing some of them, so I figured I better list them all some place it’d be easy to find. This is the only place I could think of. S-so, here are my notes, according to what I was able to find out from everyone. They might not be in coherent order, I’m sorry! I’m just writing them down however I find the papers. -Rivener’s skin started cracking before he lost his power. Almost as soon as I left. -Rivener’s power disappeared all at once. He stung Isi with a powerful poison and a few moments later wasn’t able to produce an antidote anymore. -There was a lunar eclipse that night that Rivener attacked Isi! (is it related somehow!? …I’ll try to keep tabs on that stuff and see if the moon affects Riv) -Riv’s skin continued to crack and peel off for a whole month after it started. -Riv showed signs of clinical depression, refusing to eat and crying a lot, shutting us all out, during his skin-shedding. It continues even now that he’s physically healthy again. -Just like with the poison, Rivener’s skin suddenly came back. He won’t tell me if anything strange happened that night, no matter how much I pry. -Rivener’s poison powers seem to have returned at some point while he was still shedding, although we can’t really pinpoint the moment when it came back. -Rivener’s behavior during the shedding: anti-social, ashamed, scared, despaired, angry, near-suicidal. -Rivener’s behavior after the shedding: anti-social, angry, irritable, quiet, introverted. (He’s so different from the arrogant, prideful Riv he used to be! D: It worries me!) -Weird: Ever since Rivener got better and left his room more, he’s obsessed with taking pictures. He won’t go anywhere without his digital camera, and takes pics of just about everything. -Isi and Riv were avoiding each other and making the house very tense, but one day it just seemed better; they were watching a movie together, and Riv was all cuddled up against Isi. O.O I was shocked! Rivener doesn’t even do that with me!!! D: That’s about all the notes I have so far. I’ll add more as I notice things, but that’s it. I hope Rivener’s okay… He seems to be going through some rather big changes. And I have to admit, I’m a little jealous of Isi… He seems closer to Rivener than I am, now. Maybe I should let Riv poison ME, if that’s the way to get a connection with him!

Rivener's Diary Dear Diary: Yesterday was the lab festival at the beach. I didn't want to go, there'd be lots of people there, and I'm still not sure I wanted to go show my face. But Aphismet was really annoying about it, so I ended up going because he pointed out there would be lots of things to take pictures of. He was right, but not at all in the way I thought. I met a woman with blue hair who said she had a star-camera, and she's going to lend it to me. That is going to be so awesome! I am not sure when it's going to happen, but I'm really looking forward to it! Her name was Rochan and she was a little odd. She liked to hug things a lot, but I can forgive her if it means I can play with that camera. I also met Lucia. She's a Raevan like me, but, well, not really. She's a Raevan, and that makes her like me, but she's a girl. A really PRETTY girl. She was being really nice to me, and I don't know why it didn't annoy the crap outta me. I actually WANTED to spend time with her. She was gorgeous and I took a few pictures of her. A few times I had to run away because I wasn't sure what to do (girls are confusing!), but I think she still liked me anyway. I hung out with her a lot that day. I also saw that Pasha girl again for a short while. I didn't talk to her, but she was friends with Lucia. She's grown. She... I don't know how to say it. She seems less annoying, for one. And she looks like a movie star. So pretty. But I still couldn't talk to her without being angry. But anyway after that we left and came home. It was a good day, I think. I'm glad Aphi talked me into going. Maybe he's not such a dolt after all. I should listen to him more, maybe?

She's the newest addition to the Lab's staff, and so the Raevan/Guardian community got together at Werika's house to throw her a surprise party! Aphismet has a few drinks with Kyou (after talking to him for the very first time ever!) and Rivener convinced Laz to try poker, hoping to sneak in the "strip" part of it into the game later on.

:: The Feeding Problem :: Rivener felt like crap. He decided that he hated the fall. At least this week of it. It had been cloudy and raining for almost a whole week now! Riv was starving! He’d tried going out at night to eat, but there was nothing out there! Apparently Riv needed the stars and moon, not just the fact that it’s night! He hadn’t told Aphismet, hoping this would end soon, but as he’d been watching the weather network and they announced another week of this crap, Riv began wondering if perhaps he should tell his guardian. He wasn’t sure what Aphismet could do, really, but it was better than trying to figure it out alone and slowly starving to death. Already Riv’s rune was dimming and he felt weak and sluggish.
Sighing, the Scorpion lifted himself off the couch and floated up to the painting room where he knew Aphismet to be.
“A-Aphi?” he called from the doorframe, voice weaker than he expected. It startled both himself and the white-haired man, dark eyes lifting off the canvas to flick over to the Raevan in surprise. “Rivener?” Aphi echoed, frowning in sudden concern. “What’s wrong?”“I… There’s no sky. At night. I’m hungry.” Rivener didn’t like the way his explanation was completely lacking, but apparently that was enough for Aphi, whose eyebrows shot up. “Weather says there won’t be a sky for another week, and I-…”“Oh my god, Rivener, I’m so sorry! I should have noticed, I should have noticed!” Aphismet all but ripped off his apron, rushing to Riv’s side and slipping both arms under the Raevan’s shoulders, testing Riv’s “weight”. The strange and insightful test yielded results: Riv couldn’t float effectively on his own anymore, and so when Aphi lifted he actually felt weight. This was bad! Riv was weak! The chef let go, biting his lip and watching his stunned ward as he thought. “Uhh, uhhh… Can you eat from pictures? From the planetarium?” He asked, pacing now. Riv was getting tired just watching so much physical activity. Leaning against the doorframe for support, he shook his head. “No, and no…”“D-does the sky have to be completely clear?”“No, I’ve eaten from cloudy skies before as long as I could see some stars…”Aphismet paced, worried and wondering what-… Suddenly he stopped, his face set in a portrait of determination. “Rivener, come with me!” he declared, marching downstairs to the television and sitting down, watching the weather network. Rivener followed with a sigh, rolling his eyes. What was Aphi thinking? Riv had already watched the weather network for hours: the forecast wasn’t going to change! Huffing a sigh, Riv flopped to the couch next to Aphi, crossing his arms and looking out the window balefully. Maybe he shouldn’t have said anything, if Aphi was just going to be as useless as he ever was. Riv should have just toughed it out, somehow, and just tried to glean some kind of nourishment from the cloudy sky. Surely there would be a small peek of stars at SOME point, right? It can’t be completely cloudy all the time!
…Although, Riv had tried and tried for a week now…“AHAH!” Aphismet suddenly exclaimed, startling his Raevan. “Come on,” he declared, getting to his feet and pulling Rivener along to the front door. Pausing a moment by the entryway mirror to write a small note for Isi, Aphi grabbed his coat and his keys and he left the house, pulling Riv to the car and ushering him in.
“Wh-what are you-“ Riv began, confused.“Don’t worry, Riv, you’re going to have a nice filling meal tonight!” Aphismet said with a smile. Not sure if he should really trust Aphismet so easily, Rivener settled into the seat, wondering where they were going.
The drive was strange. Riv looked between the outdoors and his guardian, wondering what the heck was going on. Aphi was humming along to the radio, as though this was a nice Sunday drive. The car made its way into Durem and soon after Rivener realized where they were headed as the destination came into view.
“Th-the airport?” Aphismet grinned. When evening came, Rivener stepped out onto the balcony. Skies were clear with just a few clouds, and the stars were bright and glittering. The half-moon felt like dessert. Rivener sighed with contentment, taking it all in, his rune glowing brighter by the second. After two whole minutes, Rivener was full, but he kept eating a little anyway, stuffing himself like he’d never felt before. It was so nice to be FULL again! He turned and smiled at his guardian who watched from the glass sliding doors of the hotel room.
“Thanks, Aphismet…”“No problem,” the man replied with a shrug of his shoulders. “If a plane trip to Gambino is what we need to find skies for you, then we’ll go to Gambino as often as needed.” With a smile, Aphi sighed. “I can’t miss a week of work though, and you’re going to be hungry again if you come home… Can I trust you to stay here by yourself?” Rivener blinked wide red eyes at Aphismet. “Y-… You’d leave me here by myself?” The Scorpion asked, a slow smile spreading on his lips. Aphismet trusted him enough for that? Trusted that Rivener would be okay?“If you promise to stay in the room and keep out of trouble, I will. I’ll call every night to check up on you… Promise me, though!” Aphi warned with a raised finger, looking as stern as he could manage. “I promise!” Riv exclaimed, wings flapping with excitement. He’d get to feel what it was like to be alone! Like an adult! “…Alright. I’ll be back in one week to get you, okay? Now let’s go get some sleep; I’ll go back tomorrow.” Aphi headed inside towards one of the double beds. Rivener looked over his shoulder at the lovely beach view, grinning, before following Aphismet.

Rivener's Diary
DAY ONE: Sunday
Hi Diary!
Well... This is just a piece of paper from the hotel room notepad. I kinda left home in a hurry and didn't really know I would end up here for a week, so I have to make do with what I can find. This is a hotel pen too, and it kinda sucks... Maybe I'll go buy a proper pen and paper set thing tomorrow. I'll just bring these pages home with me after this week and like, glue it into the real diary.
Anyway, I'm all alone! Aphismet brought me to Gambino island because there were no skies in Durem, it was raining too much... And this week the weather here in Gambino is supposed to be nice! So he and I hopped a flight and he rented a motel room here and I finally got to eat something! Ahhh, it was delicious, I had forgotten how tasty food was! The stars taste really crisp and clear here, maybe because they're reflected in the sea like that? ...Anyway, it was delicious.
But like, Aphismet has to go back to work tomorrow. So he said he'd trust me to stay here by myself for this whole week! This room will be all mine, all to myself! There's two nice beds and a really nice, huge flatscreen LCD tv! It has channels we don't have at home, and there's a pay per view thing that Aphismet said I could use once a day to rent a movie. The beach is right outside, I can see it all from the balcony!
Aphi is still here right now, he said he would sleep here tonight and go back home on a plane tomorrow. He'll come back to get me next Sunday... I'm excited to try living alone! Tomorrow I'm going to go to the beach by myself and just lay on the sand, all warm and cozy... Without anyone around to annoy me, it's going to be very fun and relaxing at the same time! Aphi is leaving me some money, and I think he kinda knows this is like a vacation for me, because why would he leave me money? I don't NEED anything, really... But he said I could go buy myself some stuff. Like a pen and some paper. And maybe some cheap painting things, so I can have something to do once I get sick of sunning myself on the sand. But there's always TV, too, so I'm sure I'll be fine. I'll do all the same stuff I do at home, only I'll be alone here and able to relax peacefully.
The only thing is, I worry about Eiry. Is he going to be okay, I wonder?...

Rivener's Diary
DAY TWO: Monday
Hi Diary!
This is my first day all alone! Aphi left this morning to go back home, and he told me to give him a call if anything happened. He left me a bunch of money and told the staff of the hotel that I'd be staying! I'm already good friends with the maid who takes care of the room, she seemed like a nice older lady who thought I was handsome. The people at the front desk are nice and they suggested a bunch of things I might want to do today in Gambino, but...
I already had a plan, see? I went to the store first and bought this nice pen and paper set. I really like these ink pens, not the ball ones but like, liqui-gel things. This one's black, but there was also a blue and red one in the set. I might use those tomorrow. The paper is nice too, all papyrus-like and whatnot... it came with a lined page to put underneath, so that when I write the lines stay straight. I'm using it right now, can you tell?
Anyway after I brought those back here to the room, I went out through the balcony and floated down to the beach. The sea is cold this time of year so there aren't that many bathers, but the sand is still nice and warm. I lay down and napped for like five hours! It felt so good, I was warm and comfortable all over, and I didn't have to worry about anyone or think about anything! I'm totally relaxed now!
Then I came back to the room and watched TV for a while. After I finish writing this I'm going to watch a movie... Something animated, I think. I feel like watching a cartoon! That Panda movie maybe? By the time it's over it'll probably be really dark out so then I'll go out onto the beach again and feed on the starlight.
It's only starting, but so far I really like living by myself! I feel so-... so... I dunno, zen, I guess! Although I wonder how the oth
Sorry, I had to answer the phone. I'd forgotten that Aphi said he'd call me every night. We only talked for a little while but he sounded happy that I was enjoying myself. He's a pretty good guardian, overall, I suppose. When he wants to be.
Well, I'm gonna go watch that movie. I'll write again tomorrow!
