Shadow is my favorite character. I've been to the official site Shadow the HedgehogThe guns, I'm not worried about. Since he doesn't need to use them most of the time anyway. It's also darker and I like dark storylines. I saw the trailers. The cutscene graphics are impressive, even th grass moves and it's really realistic. The in-game graphics look like Sonic Heroes. Be open minded for crying out loud.

Xagarath Ankor I think it;s more the way the cover/publicity/almost every image of the game was emphasising the gun motif was what's getting people to complain. Precisely. The gun, the motorbike and the other testosterone-stinking phallus substitutes're getting almost more space than the friggin' hedgehog in almost every publicity shot I've seen. Just because I don't share somebody's opinion doesn't necessarily mean that I'm closed-minded. I don't mind darkness and I don't even mind violence - I'm just seeing a profound lack of plot consistency in giving Shadow guns and vehicles, a complete failure of said consistency in calling them optional but making them the central marketing point, and a general disillusionment as to what even half of this stuff has to do with the franchise in the first place. I'm not saying for one minute that I don't hope that the game itself - which I'll probably rent, on the grounds that it wouldn't be fair not to after the amount of discussion I've been involved in on the subject - will pleasantly surprise me, because I've been a Sonic fan for an awfully long time and the current run of games other than the Advance series hasn't done much for me. I just don't like the odds. sad

Initial reviews/reports suggest I may be right.

I disagree with almost all of you on this. I own the game, and it is awesome. Think about the gun issue though, is it really that surpirsing? Eggman's robots use guns, the GUN forces use guns, Eggman's brother, mentioned far back in the mainstream, uses guns. yet for some reason Shadow or sonic using a gun is taboo. I think it adds flavour, and realism to it. Because honestly, I doubt a spinning hedgehog is gonna blow up a robot. As long as sega remembers that the sonic characters have other abilities than thumbs, the series will stay true. Don't be afraid of change, children. Embrace it, love it! Make it your own.

I think it's mainly the fact that Sonic and the gang CAN take out enemies without a gun that's made the whole "cap-bustin'" element so taboo. After playing through the game, I kind of wonder if maybe Sega should have dropped the gunplay in favor of more Chaos power usage. Btw, you're doubting a somersaulting mammal can destroy a steel-plated robot, in a series filled with talking animals that collect magic gems to stop a mad scientist with a wee bit of too much money on his hands? : p Don't get me wrong now, I really had a fun time blasting through the game. But I did feel a bit empty-handed when it came to dwelling into Shadow's past. Somehow, something's missing...

Well then... I just beat SA2 for the first time, and thanks to sonic team's odd ideas, I'm confused. What do you guys think? Did he die at colony arc, and is the shadow from Shadow the hedgehog and sonic heroes an android? If he is dead, I'm so pissed. Especially with Shadow the hedgehog. When they said multiple endings, I didn't think that counted on the truth of his past. In the first ending I beat he was the original, and he was the protecter of colony arc. I beat a different one last night, and he was an android, and he and omega killed eggman. Literally. He raised his hand and said good bye eggman, then the screen went black and you just heard eggman scream. So, you guys think he's dead? I'm so determined to uncover the truth about this I'm making a website for it.

I'm so determined to uncover the truth about this I'm making a website for it. I wish you luck figuring it out. That's one of the things that so annoyed a lot of us: Sega left us with lots of unresolved questions after Heroes and we thought Shadow the Hedgehog might possibly answer them. Foolish of us, really smile Rumour has it that the only "canon" ending is the final one, after you've unlocked all other endings. Personally, I've no idea - I've been so busy lately I've stalled after only unlocking 2 of them, so I've a while to go. I am *not* looking forward to "destroy all artificial chaos" *shudder* EDIT: I've just realised I never actually came back with my view on ShTH after owning it. So here goes: I like it. Not as much as, say, Sonic 3 & Knux, or Sonic Adventures, but I do like it. It was frighteningly easy to slip into the "blast anything that moves" mindset, rather than homing attacking as I thought I would be doing. Having both sides telling you to do stuff (while not stopping their own allies from trying to kill you!) is a pretty surreal feeling. The amount of times I wanted to spindash Dark Oak or whatever his name is... I'm quite sure my screams could be heard from one end of Bristol to the other when I realised I was going to have to navigate the ARK again, although it wasn't quite such heart-stopping dread as I thought. I like the soundtrack and will get round to buying it at some point. Shad doesn't seem quite so buggy as Heroes - I haven't fallen off grinding rails at anything like the rate I do in Heroes - although he does seem to have a tendency to skid off the edge of platforms to his death. Maybe there's a lemming somewhere in that Ultimate Lifeform? wink As noted above, I am not fond of the "find / destroy all the [insert objects here] in the level" missions. At least Knux and Rouge had emerald senses! Much amusement can be had with Charmy's understated responses to Shadow unleashing Chaos Inferno on the world... But still I am weak. I've not yet been able to bring myself to play villain Shadow and take out GUN. One of these days, after a particularly irritating day at work... *evil laughter* DW

I did not know that, which is the main reason for my anger towards the multiple endings. I'll give it a try then, I guess.

Yep, there's a final ending, and it does actually fill a lot of plotholes. Almost justifies the game.

Having fulfiled his plot hook at the end of SA2, it feels as though he's only still in the cast as a sop to the "We're mature teenage Sonic fans, so we want blood, angst and Amy geting her boobies out!" brigade, as a bolt-on bit of emo.

Shadow's emo emo and even though he is, that does'nt give him the right to pick up a gun from the ground and start shooting whatever he pleases! domokun Compared to Halo that game is possibly the most worst gun games of all time! gonk
