Zach stepped outside, the heat a change from the air conditioning that had been blasting in his duplex. He blinked as his eyes adjusted. How long he had been planning to stay there with the lights off and the shade down was uncertain, but if he had to eat, he would. After slowly descending the stairs, he set off at a slow pace in the direction of the cafeteria.

A step, a step, a step, a step, the crutches stretched off into eternity, only to have the ground snap back at him with every move, attempting to snap and bite at his face, to claw at his sensitive skin. Water water he needed water, he needed water bad. He had forgotten to drink, he was feeling dry, he was drying out, he was cracking apart. How long had he been walking? Where had he gone to? He was drowning, no he could breath. Above or below water? There was no water! The octopus was trying tos wim, trying to crawl back to the water, but the man managed to stay on his crutches, stumbling and fumbling forward through the twists and horrors of the world, folding and blooming, green and brown and grey, and doors and windows- the duplexes! He had figured out where he was! He continued stumbling a few steps backward, managing to drag his crutches, supporting himself for a few seconds just befor something caught him from behind and he went sailing backward with a loud frightened cry.

The world was spinning! The world was unraveling! He was falling up! He was crashing down in a tangle of green! He screamed out, but his mouth couldn't remember words just then.

The ruckus outside caused Kaveri to swing her head around towards the back of the duplex. It sounded very loud, it sounded like... it came from her garden?

"Goddamnit." Was some errant herbivore looking for a snack? Kaveri wouldn't have that! She rose from her seat to look around for her big shovel before she found it and took it into her hands.

"Get outta my ********' garden!" Kaveri roared as she flung the door open and heavily ran down the stairs, her bare feet loudly smacking against the wood as she brandished the shovel in the air to face whatever four-legged foe might be planning to make off with her crops.

Or in this case, eight-legged. The long-necked woman stopped in her tracks, letting her arms drop down as she squinted at the vaguely familiar, purply-blue man tangled in the mess of greenery. She squinted and barely registered that it was someone she'd met before but there was no possible way there would be more than one purply-blue octopus men on this island. He'd changed, that's for sure, but it seemed like everyone she met had. She walked to the edge of the fence, poking Billy with the wooden end of her shovel.

"Man, I didn't think you were the kind to be into veggies," she said, offering another prod, "Get your a** up."

At the sounds of shouting and running, Zach had to stop and turn around. He spotted Kaveri rounding the corner of her duplex with something shiny in her hands. He had been too far away to hear exactly what she'd said - had something attacked her?

Without another moment's hesitation he ran toward her garden. A twisted, possessive feeling had come to mind. It seemed quite simple at first thought - Kaveri was his. Anyone that tried to hurt her was about to deal with all the aggressiveness of a territorial... dragon? From his point of view it was difficult to seperate his emotions from the influences of his serum.

He burst out from around the duplex to find absolutely nothing happening. Something - no, someone - an incredible shade of purple had planted themselves in the middle of Kaveri's garden. He took a couple breaths, looking upward slowly and seeing Kaveri unhurt. Good. His tail was still rigid, but at least he could relax his fingers. He felt strange. What had he been thinking? If he hurt anyone else...

"Er... what was that about? And who--" He spoke as he walked over to where she was, and finally noticed that in addition to a body there were about four more limbs than humans were known to have. "Billy!?"

Billy's head lolled, his mouth hanging open as his tentacles coiled and uncoiled, sliding over his chest as he gaped at the shapes looming above him. Up and up and up and up and up she went far and away and insane and wrong and people's heads shouldn't be so high he was shrinking! His eyes jerked down to the curling octopussian appendages wrything from where they webbed to his arms, and he wondered if he had changed again... changed into what? His skin was greyed, dried out from his trek away from the lake, but underneith the semi translucent skin, blue veins stood out. His eyes swept up, locking on Zach's with a look of utter horror.

The demon was there! The horns and teeth jutting from a twisted, reddened face snarling down to rend his stomach open. With a wild cry, the octopus produced it's best defense, ink gushing from Billy's mouth once more, but oddly thick for his usual consistancy. He gave another panicked cry, scrambling backward against the short fence, glancing back and forth between them frantically.

Kaveri took a panicked step back as Billy started twitching and moving, pulling the shovel away from him. And just as she did that, Zach had run onto the scene. She turned towards him, clutching onto the shovel with both hands as she slowly nodded to the octopus in her garden.

"He's seriously bugging out, man," she said to Zach with a lowered voice, pointing at the octopus, "I don't think he knows where he is." She'd seen similar behavior before in her friends, so she could gather that the octopus-man was on some rather heavy stuff. She didn't know just what, but it was probably something that would make the guys from Fear and Loathing wretch with glee.

She took another hop back when Billy wailed, spewing chunky ink all over himself. Kaveri wrinkled her nose with disgust, it was a rather nasty sight even for a vulture. As usual, it hadn't dawned on her that maybe her long neck might be a cause of the poor, drugged man's terror. She got closer to the fence and called out to Billy. "Hey, man! Are you alright?"

Zach looked up and over at Kaveri, puzzled, then back to the writhing octopus-man. Unconsciously, he started to curl the fingers of his left hand as if in preparation to strike. He hadn't forgotten about the first time they'd met. This time, at least, he'd have some defense. "Is he... sick? Maybe he just changed..."

"Aah!" Zach had momentarily locked eyes on the bluish-purple Billy, enough time for spray of thick ink to splash out and horrify him. He grimaced, his ears fanning out a little as he did so. "What the hell is that stuff!?"

After a moment of panicked confusion, he stepped next to Kaveri by the fence.

Billy sputtered, the ink slowly loosing it's opacity and grew a light foam along the edges- monsters monsters looming about him, what were these? What were these foreign things wrything under his skin? Where were his HANDS? Where where his- what was this? He wasn't human, he wasn't HUMAN what was he? "This... isn't... isn't mine..." He managed, eyes bulging from his head, falling out, rolling down along his four tentacle arms to his four tentacle legs and around the coils and down to the broken garden-

The octopus man's movements were stiff and jerky as he grabbed at his chest, as though to uproot his fresh tentacles like weeds from under his skin. "Not-" Suddenly he jerked, spasming on the ground as the horror took hold and he seizured, clear liquid dribbling from his beard to pool in the dirt beside him befor he suddenly fell still and cold.

Kaveri shook her head silently. "He doesn't look good at all," she said. She was tempted to give another poke at Billy, but decided against it for fear of startling the man further.

She narrowed her eyes. That ink was going to be a b***h to wash off of her plants. "Looks like he puked on you, man," she wrinkled her nose, stepping away from Zach. That stuff really smelled! "But I didn't think barf ever came in tar black... something isn't right."

She chanced a step over the short fence to get closer to the writhing, vomiting man, holding out a hand and trying to be reassuring and comforting -- as reassuring and comforting as a long-necked, silver-eyed monstrosity can be. But before she can try saying anything to him, the man is out like a ********!" Kaveri cried out, tensing up and clenching the outstretched hand so her talons splayed out. "I think he ate something and it poisoned him pretty badly... maybe some weird island plant or something." After all, there was no way he'd be able to get his hands on any hard stuff, right? As much as his behavior suggested otherwise, it was impossible in such a controlled environment like this!

"Zach, hurry up and go to my duplex and call those ******** on the intercom right now!" Kaveri commanded, waving an arm and pointing towards the top floor of the duplex. "I'll stay here with him in case something happens. Be quick, he might die if he's not dead already!"

"N-no kidding..." He looked down, but thankfully the black liquid hadn't made it far enough to get on him. "Almost. I guess... he tried to?" He still felt threatened. Something was seriously wrong with Billy, but it was beyond him to guess what.

Billy's seizure made him jump back. He didn't know what to do. What if Billy had a head injury or a brain disease? That foam looked like every story he'd been told about rabies. There were probably diseases ten times worse lurking in that jungle. Get away get away get away! His eyes widened as though in confusion, but he was quick to comply with the thought, backing up nearly to the wall behind him. Whatever Billy had, he didn't want. Kaveri's explanation didn't sound fully convincing, and he questioned it as he watched her dealing with the unconscious octupus-man. "Poisoned?"

He nodded, swallowing hard, then took off to go around to the front of her duplex and up the stairs. He was so morbidly transfixed by the prospect of death that he almost didn't have time to see the wickedly grinning visage of Garuda leering from Kaveri's door. At the last second he leaned his head back and avoided getting hit in the face by the mask. He didn't have time for interruption! He reached out for the doorknob, turned, pushed the door. The intercom wasn't hard to find, and he quickly slammed the "0" button without a second of hesitation. Was it too late already?

A few moments later a bored-sounding male labtech answered the intercom. "Feral Laboratories. What's the emergency?"

Zach blinked, surprised at the different voice. He recovered his voice soon enough. "Billy! He's dying! I- I need Dr. Duvert, right now!"

"I'll patch him through." The voice responded, sounding unimpressed.

There was a few clicking noises, and then about thirty seconds later an overly familiar french-touched voice. "Zachary? What is is this about Billy? Dying?" There was the sound of quick footsteps and the voice sounded more tinny than usual. Unlike the labtech, there was more of a hint of urgency to the doctor's voice. "Tell me what is happened!"

He waited, nervously tapping his foot against the floor. It was taking too long... each second felt like a minute. If Billy hadn't been dead already...

"Something's really wrong with him! He just- he had a seizure or something. And he was vomiting black before that, and screaming. Kaveri thinks he's poisoned. I don't know, it- it might be too late already..." His voice was quicker and higher with nervousness. He was tempted to bite his tongue rather than say what came out next, but his teeth were getting so big and sharp that he'd probably have clipped it clean off like that. "You have to help him."

"Merde!" came the bitter curse over the intercom before there was a muffling sound. Billy was supposed to be HIS responsibility now. And it seemed the moment he had been down in his lab as opposed to being on moniter duty, something had happened.

Was this more of Moreau trying to get him into further trouble? Pilling all the work on him, putting a hostile subject under his authority, and now THIS? Had Moreau poisoned him? It wouldn't surprise him.

He rounded the corner at a jog to the video moniters, peering over the tech on duty who had answered the phone after an irritated smack to the back of his head and a violent gesture to the camera moniter displaying Billy lying on the ground outside Kaveri's duplex.

He muffled the mouthpiece as he accosted the guard, who was sent to a flurry of activity as he dispatched a group of guards to the area.

Finally, picking back up the intercom "Thank you, Zachary. We have someone heading there immediately. Thank you for notifying me." There was an indirect frustrtated growl in his voice.
