Character:Jin Current Square: 24 to 23 Response: "I guess they could be hunting, but you would think they would want the arrow back, since it hadn't broken." Though they hadn't taken the spear, though the spear head had not been broken. Hopefully they were not going to send anyone else back for it. And he should stop thinking about this sort of thing.
"Is that all I'm good for? Documenting?" Jin asked, giving a slight pout in his voice but kept relax as he followed along. "I did bring enough things to document though." Multiple journals, pens, some other things to take samples and keep them. "And well, it is part of what we do." Archaeology had so many notes to take and things to document and keep track of.
"The temple of Enyo? What was it like, living in the temple?" He questioned, faintly recalling some facts on the goddess but he had never been overly religious. "I'm glad for you to be here. It makes me feel a bit better." At least someone that he knew was able to properly handle a weapon. He had runes in his bag but they were created more for protection in mind… and luck.
“Do you think we are going to be stuck camping out here tonight?” He question, faintly hoping that the carriages returned and they could just sleep in them. And not worry about a band of warriors showing up with more weapons then he ever wanted to see.
Okay, not was not the time to wonder where they were getting food from.

"Day Nine. There were a few mishaps along the way, but we've finally arrived. The rumours said this area was dark and twisted, filled with monsters and whatnot. Nonsense! This area is nothing but beautiful plains and flowers - I am sure the most sinister thing to happen here is a bee sting. Most of the team and myself will camp here tonight, while Hilda and Nathaniel ensure the neighbouring forest is safe."

You hear a crunch under your foot. Whoops. Upon closer inspection, you can see you have trodden on a pair of reading glasses that now sport a distinct crack across the glass. They are stained with grass - there's no way those stains are fresh.
You have found a Clue!
In the bright sun you see a glint nearby. Lying on the soft grass is a sharp, flat blade attached to a spear that has been snapped in several places. You don't recognise the craftsmanship of the weapon, but there are a few feathers tied to the polearm.
You have found a Clue!
Close to the edge of the forest, the ground has been clearly disturbed. Dirt and grass have been kicked up, but not just in a concentrated area - there is a wide circle that seems to have had hooves running over it. Had the first expedition brought horses?

Character:Saiph Current Square: 24 to 23 Response: "I'm not really sure," Saiph said in response to Jin's question. "There was just, like, a calling inside me. I knew I wanted to help those who need it and to make sure those that cause harm are brought to justice...." Saiph shrugged unsure if that was a good response or not. It's hard to explain when something had been a part of you, a part of your plan, for so many years.
Saiph listened and nodded grimly in response to Jin's worries. This expedition definitely wasn't turning out the way a lot of them probably expected. Saiph had assumed Dr. Horn had merely gotten lost or maybe stuck in a hole but now...
Eir's laugh was startling to say the least, but her words made Saiph grin. "I guess there's that. Just because I'm not finding the clues doesn't mean I'm not helping to solve this." Saiph mostly was talking to themselves but their voice wasn't exactly quiet.
Saiph was surprised to learn that Eir was from one of the gods' temples. It calmed their nerves considerably to know that Eir was probably more fighting capable then Saiph was at this time. "Same here! I've only got some self-defense training right now so knowing we have someone with more fighting skills is very comforting," Saiph chimed in with Jin.
When Jin mentioned the possibility of having to camp out, Saiph let out a small groan. "I hope we don't have to... But we should probably meet up with the others of our group. It'd be good to know what they have found." Saiph unconsciously found themselves skirting around the shadow of the forest and quick stepped it to where Eir was.

Prompt for Square 22
Sitting on a fallen tree near the edge of a forest is a large, dark shadow. Upon approach, the shadow - no, creature - turns to face you, its giant wings stretching into the sunlight. In the light the creature is clearly a very large bird, its bright feathers glittering in the sunlight. It seems strangely comfortable in your presence. Maybe it's used to being around other creatures?

Character:Jin Current Square: 23 to 22 Response: "I guess that makes sense... to have a calling." Jin had never consider having a calling... he enjoyed what he had majored in and at least liked what he did now. Even if librarian work was not what he had studied for, it was still a decent paying job.
"Is it bad I am now trying to remember where actual food is, because I don't want to live off the snacks in my messenger bag." It really wasn't going to last all that long. He hurried on after the pair, keeping as far from the shadow of the forest as possible.
"Who wants to vote, that if we do set up camp, we don't do it anywhere near the forest." He added. The forest was... unsettling.

Character:Saiph Current Square: 23 to 22 Response: "There was food on the carriages," Saiph mentioned casually. "Although I'm not sure how much nor where it was stashed. Either way, I'm sure food will be fine." At least, that's what the hybrid was hoping. With such a large group searching all corners of this place they were bound to find Dr. Horn sooner rather than later.
At the mention of the forest again, Saiph turned to look at it and shuddered. It also reminded them that things might not end up as pleasant they had once hoped. "Do you think the others are okay?" There hadn't been any flares but who's to say anyone had remembered to send some up in a moment of panic.
"At least we can see most of the people in our group," Saiph indicated the shapes of other figures dotting the plains. "I wonder if they'd be able to hear us if we shouted... We probably should group up with the others soon. I believe the other half of this place was already searched and I'd hate to waste time." Although if any of the other members of the search party caused Saiph to feel they were lack luster in searching for clues, the hybrid would re-explore to make sure everything was seen. "We could gather anything we've found so far, put all our heads together, and figure out where to go from there."
"Unless maybe one of the other search groups are close to finding Dr. Horn." It was probably too hopeful but Saiph would like to avoid having to go to the forest like they were beginning to suspect they might.

Character:Ligeia Current Square: 24 to 23 Response: This place was starting to feel a bit strange to the Hallowed hybrid. Perhaps it was simply the comparatively cool shadows of those looming pines that seemed to chill her. Was it so much cooler than that of the rolling, sun dappled plains at large? Ligeia absently rubbed her hands over her arms as she slowly walked. Even Udara seemed to grow more still from his roost in her backpack. Maybe he was just falling asleep, but the thought did cross her mind that perhaps he was feeling the chill too. Silly perhaps, but she didn't want to think she was experiencing this alone.
"We might find more closer to the forest than what we've been finding out here...Or inside of it." Breathing a sigh through her teeth, Ligeia steeled herself to venture on. "We got this, Udara. No knowing what lies ahead if we linger around here. Besides, I've seen creepier things in our shop back home. Oh. You know what? I'm going to have to introduce you to my other jackalope at home. She's a little sweetheart, and you seem pretty social, so I think you'll get along fine. We'll take it slow though, to give you time to adjust to your new home. Wouldn't do to throw you into the proverbial deep end."
Apparently her chatting at him drew Udara from his hideaway, but he wiggled up and halfway out of her backpack. "Oh? Want out?" He awkwardly perched along her shoulders. "Hang on, hang on." She paused, gently scooping the buck into her arms and held him against her chest. "There we go. You weren't getting cold in there, were you? Or just needing some cuddling?" He seemed to settled against her shirt. She stroked his back, softly smoothing the feathers of his wings. "It's okay, buddy. We got this." And onward she walked, heading more westward towards the forest.

Character:Jin Current Square: 22 Response: "We could hope that they find him...." It certainly would be preferred if they did not have to linger anywhere near the forest. Everyone is fine, they are all going to meet up, the doctor would be found, and his party and just go home. "But I think that is rather unlikely... considering."
"Should we go back to where we had started?" Jin questioned and paused, wary at the shadow. That was large and dark and ooh... That was a very large bird. "Um... Hello?" He questioned slowly, taking in the bright feathers. Could... could this be the source of the feathers on the spear head. "Saiph? Do you see that? Eir?" He called, catching sight of the grimm. "Eir, did you see the bird?"

Character:Saiph Current Square: 22 Response: Saiph nodded quietly. Things were pointing to 'not good' although nothing yet said 'death'. Saiph shook their head, not wanting to believe that. "We've got to keep our hopes up, Jin."
"Yeah, maybe we should head back and start a fire, draw the others to us." Saiph turned to head southward just as Jin seemed drawn by something in the woods. Saiph stiffened but moved quickly to face whatever was in the forest. Was it one of their company? Someone from Dr. Horn's? Dr. Horn? Or... someone that meant ill?
It took Jin asking if Eir saw the bird for Saiph's own eyes to adjust to the darkness and see the creature for what it was. "That thing is huge!" Saiph tried to make themselves look bigger, not wanting to be seen as prey to the bird. They could see a glint in the bird's eye that made Saiph pause. "Does that bird... seem like it's used to us?"
Despite their initial fear, Saiph decided to take the initiative and moved closer to the bird. It kept an eye on the fey hybrid but made no move to leave. It almost seemed like it wanted Saiph to get closer. Well, that was both scary and fun. "Thrilling," Saiph said to themselves. When Saiph got within an arm's reach of the bird, they held out their arm slowly in a crooked position. "C'mon, then..." Saiph was probably endangering themselves but they had to try. The bird eyed Saiph's arm, then looked into their eyes, before moving to perch on Saiph's offered flesh. It barely fit and the claws hurt, but Saiph chose to ignore all that as they turned back to Eir and Jin. "Apparently it's friendly."

This is where someone found a page of Dr Horn’s journal. Better find them if you want to read it!
"I don't know about that, Jin." Eir shrugged. "An arrow seems sort of expendable. And what if we're dealing with people… cherub size? I mean, those guys are like throw pillows. All tiny and fluffy. An arrow that high up might not be worth it?" This was all speculation, of course. "Hm… Well, you're better at documenting things then I am." She shrugged. "And apparently the best equipped for it. But if you really want to do something else, when we make camp, you can cook dinner!" Eir was teasing him.
Eir blushed a little when Jin said he was glad she was there, and tried to ignore the compliment. "Life at the temple is very different. I didn't grow up believing in the nine, and I still can't say I totally do. But learning about discipline and fighting techniques has been enlightening." She talked a little how her village thought of everything as having a spirit, and how training at the temple was helping Eir to temper hasty nature. And then Saiph also complimented her. AH! She had never been praised so much outside of her home.
"Oh, I agree with you, Jin. I do not want to camp near the forest. I would much rather have a clear line of sight all around me. But, if worst comes to worst, we could probably hunt for some…" She trailed off, ignoring the two of them as they continued talking. There was something in the trees, and she crouched low to the ground, almost stalking this strange new creature. It didn't even flinch as she came close to it. Suddenly, it stretched a pair of massive wings out, then settled again, looking right at Eir.
"Well now. I wonder if this is what was being hunted." And there seemed to be a small flock of these birds. "They seem friendly enough." Eir reached out and touched one of the birds, and it just… accepted her. "It might be best if we headed back towards the camp… and away from the forest."
Oh dear. More grass. Well this is just plain boring.

Character:Saiph Current Square: 22 to 21 Response: Saiph wasn't sure they felt fully comfortable with the bird, but at the same time it felt like if a piece of this land accepted them, maybe whatever was making the forest give off such uneasy vibes would accept them too. Completely illogical thinking, but it gave Saiph some comfort to believe it.
"Oh, you might have a point," Saiph replied to Eir's theory. "These would probably provide some good meat for someone to live off of." The bird currently perched on Saiph's arm bopped it's beak on their head as if to say 'rude.' "Sorry," the hybrid said while rubbing their head. "No need to hurt me; It's not like I'm going to hunt you." The bird seemed to glare at Saiph, daring them to try to hunt the giant bird.
At Eir's suggestion of heading back to the camp, Saiph refocused. "I wouldn't mind taking the long way back to look for more clues, though." Again, Saiph should probably put more faith in the rest of the company but after seeing how some of the people were behaving on and shortly off the carriages, it was hard not to doubt the comprehensiveness of the search. "A second, third, and fourth pair of eyes is always good," Saiph added to sound less like they were being pretentious.
It seemed Eir had the same idea, though, as the Grimm continued westward. The hybrid shrugged, causing another rapt from the bird's beak, before following behind Eir. The movement disturbed the bird enough that it took flight, although it unnaturally stayed above Saiph, circling, causing the hybrid to feel watched.
