Taijana l 4

The juxtaposition between her husband's quiet murmurs and her daughter's scream was enough to give Taijana heart palpitations.

"Shut your mouth, kid!"

Her girls were being so supportive of one another and brave; more so than she was. Taijana reached out to shift her hand from merely holding Xenia's to sitting protectively on her shoulder. "D-don't tell her that. Not when she's right." Tai passed a look to her husband before turning back to the shifters. For men so large and imposing they were nothing more than scared kids. It showed in the nervous twitch of their muscles, the glint in their eye....the only thing separating them from her was their size, and honestly, without bravery that didn't mean squat.

"...I don't like it; I don't like any of this. In fact I'm more scared than I've ever been and there's so much at stake but...I'd rather try fighting then let it get my girls. " She looked back to Kieran and took a long, shaky breath. "What about you?"

Kedean | 5

What's Finn's history with the Alkidike?

Kedean frowned. It was a good question, for it certainly seemed like a sensitive subject for the boy, but not one Kedean had an answer to. He knew the general recent history of the Yaeli involved the invasion of extremists, ‘banished’ onto their lands without their say. But this felt more personal. Before he could answer, however-

Finn’s scream cut into his thought process, and he grit his teeth, stepping forward—the guard, though, beat him to it. Kedean hesitated, glancing between the security and his comrade. There was a prickling under his skin, some buried instinct wanting, in spite of himself, still to intervene. Don’t touch him like that. But he held himself at bay. The guard didn’t seem to be hurting him, just stalling him, and the man was right.

The last thing they needed at this moment was to cause a commotion.

His attention was still on Finn, attempting to gauge whether he’d been hurt at all when—Where’s Frehy?—Kedean gave a guilty wince, eyes immediately sweeping back out in search of the man who was supposed to be his focus, and for several too-long seconds, he thought he had lost him-

Then, a familiar bickering voice drew his gaze and—Kedean’s shoulders relaxed a fraction, a sigh escaping as he shook his head. “He seems to have found someone he knows…” Someone who wasn’t especially pleased with him from the looks of things, but at least he was within sight. Kedean’s attention moved back very briefly to Shavas and Finn, gaze lingering on Finn. “Please…try to contain yourself for this gathering at least. You could stir more trouble than any of us are ready for here…the people are anxious enough.”

Kitya - 3

"Yeah!" Kitya took a deep breath as she recovered from being so surprised by her sister's scream, "What's the point if you don't fight like you're supposed ta? You're supposed to be strong and brave and stuff!" She scoffed, her tiny fingers splaying over a hip defensively, "So much for heroes in our times of need."

She glanced towards her sister, her lips pressed in a tight line of determination, "Good job, Xenia. You tell them how it is!"

Kieran - 4

Kieran's gaze shifted so quickly as he listened to his daughter's screams. Despite their situation pride created a small smile which only spread as his own wife held her ground against the group of shifters. It definitely was an improvement from before when she would have fainted just from being approached by strangers from the mainland. And as his wife glanced towards him the Yaeli gave a supportive nod. She had this, the girls had already started something and he found himself agreeing.

"For our families I would say it's best that we all step up to the situation. Hiding has never saved anyone." He replied sternly, his gaze narrowing, "I would rather fight a hundred wars than let anything happen to my family. What of you?"

Finnufarinel l 5

"Is that even possible?"

Finn could feel the blood in his veins turning black and boiling, swimming through each inch of his flesh like dark tentacles. He wanted to punch her until his insides felt better, he wanted to hit that guard and he wanted-

But what he wanted didn't matter.

The younger yaeli subconsciously stepped towards Kedean as if the larger Oban might, on some level, put his temper in check. It burned his soul knowing he had to rely on someone else, but if he was going to keep his head through all of this he couldn't do it alone.

Frehy was chatting along as men of his kind were like to do, so that meant he likely hadn't seen the incident; i.e., Finn hadn't screwed this up. Yet.

"I'm trying," he snarled. "Alkidike butchered my family; I saw them gut my father like a pig, and now I'm supposed to help them? Piss on that.

Shavas l Post 6

Shavas felt her heart stutter, butchered his family? Her Ire faded fast and she found herself feeling somewhat ashamed of her words and actions. She stared at the ground for a moment, her face and ears heating as she struggled with her thoughts and emotions. No one she had ever picked a fight with had such a complicated history. Or had she simply never bothered to think about it? The thought was uncomfortable and she shoved it to the back of her mind to deal with at some other time.

She glanced up at Finn, an apology in her eyes but she choked on the words. Her pride stung, he had behaved dreadfully. She didn't want to apologize, but she was sorry for egging him on when she hadn't realized he was upset about something more important than their petty squabble.

She tugged at her hair, hard, and then hesitantly met his gaze. "I'm an idiot," she declared suddenly. "And probably sheltered, and selfish, and a lot of other words I could say. And maybe you're right to be mad at me, you've been through... A lot, it sounds like. And i haven't. That would probably make me want to punch someone too. So... Sorry, Finn. These Alkidike sound awful. "

Shavas looked away immediately after she finished, beet red. If he snapped at her again, she would be calm and hold her cursed tongue, she would not resort to brawling, she was going to be good. Thats what she kept repeating to herself anyways.

Gahiji Post 5

Giving the girl next to him a curious look he said, "Sounds like she's quite the woman. I'd love to meet her if she's that strong." If she could knock him out in that manner then he'd rather love to fight it out with her. Just the thought of it was enough to make him smile in a happy mahher. He turned to look back at the girl and said, "Good to meet you, Adenah."

So she was training to be a warrior? One that could 'hold her own' as she put it. He gave a smile and said, "We should duel some time when you're feeling up to it then. If you can fight hand to hand and with a sword you'd be a great challenge too." Was he lucky enough to find two possible duels through one chance meeting? It would appear as though On'os was very much on his side today, as well as possibly Jonal as well. No matter which God was on his side though he'd have to thank them for it later for sure. Here was to hoping those weren't the only battles he could secure for himself.

Tytus Post 4

"I see." Tytus pressed his lips into a slight frown, a rare sign of seriousness from the playful lancer, "But at the same time I don't think it's simply about making up for our past. At least not anymore...if these creatures are so dreadful what's to stop them once they take care of the Alkidikes? Call me vain if you wish but I do not see them holding their own, not without help." These Dretch were rumored to be super vicious creatures - that much he had picked up from others while he was working his way through the army.

Tytus sighed as the other man's words rang true with him, "As do I. Both of my children are barely a few years old and I worry about leaving their mother's side..." He murmured before leaning on his lance again, "I suppose we'll just have to wait and see where necessity pulls us. I personally would prefer it if these creatures stayed put in Jahaur, but can we truly trust that to be the case?"

Valek - 4

While his papa was discussing things with the stranger Valek found his attention taken by some sudden yelling. Not that there wasn't plenty of loud noises considering all the arguments flying around him, but this one in particular had caught his attention because it came from another young source like himself. His gaze lighting up Valek slowly let go of his father's pants so that he could slowly walk around a few pairs of legs and peer towards what appeared to be a family of Yaeli with two daughters near his age that were standing up towards a race of other strange people.

Adenah ll 5

...if she's that strong. Adenah mentally scoffed. Her mother was that strong and more. What other foreigner had led the Belpol Irregulars before having to fake their own death? None, that's what; with her mother at the helm those Dretch wouldn't stand a chance, but she supposed that maybe having this guy standing at her side wouldn't be such a bad addition.

"I'd say the same, but I don't know your name." She could take a guess, of course, or give him a nickname; something short, quick, too the point, but also unique. He likely wouldn't appreciate it, but Adenah might.

"Sure thing. If you come all the way to Jauhar and find me, I'll give you a go." Not that she would be as much of a challenge as her mother, but Adenah could try. She wouldn't mind tackling him to the ground, if for nothing else than to show him what she was capable of.

Saraf Post 5

"We can only hope that it is the danger of the creatures that is the cause for the deployment of Oba's forces." It would be a lot easier to swallow then being forced to go just because those in charge were still trying to get in good with those in the other tribes. Had enough time passed since the war that they might be closer to even footing in the mind of the other tribes? It was hard to say, not that he was going to beg and plead for such a thing. He had his pride after all.

"I guess we will only see once those in charge decide to make a ruling." It made his body tense while he waited, eyes on those that would be deciding the fate of so many. Not only the soldiers but also the families of those soldiers. The fact that they might not make it back safely, that some might die, he hoped that those in charge really thought it over.

Kedean | 6

Alkidike butchered my family…

Kedean breathed out, a furrow creasing his brow, and perhaps he shouldn’t have — for Finn had so far demonstrated that he did not much appreciate physical contact — but he reached in spite of himself on instinct, laying a hand at the young man’s shoulder when he shifted nearer, briefly, before withdrawing the touch in case it was unwelcome. Prior to this moment, Finn had not revealed any specifics about his life before Oba, and Kedean had for the most part chosen not to press. It was clear regardless that he had suffered hardship beyond most, and he didn’t need to know the details unless the boy wanted to share.

This, though — while not surprising, he supposed, given all factors — leant some perspective to Finn’s attitude towards the alkidike.

I’m an idiot…

His gaze flit to Shavas. She wasn’t an unintelligent girl, at least. Sheltered by her life, certainly — but Kedean had never been one to hold that against a person based on the fact alone. Different people carried their history differently. And anyone this young who was already recognizing how privileged she was to have what she had—was on the right path and off to a good start. Kedean couldn’t say he knew how long Finn would even decide to remain with him, but still, it felt prudent to say:

“I will be going nowhere for this conflict…until the battle is brought to Oba, my place is here.” While Kedean had no focused grudge against the alkidike himself, it also simply was not part of his life or preogatives. He would fight for a united cause if he had to — even if it was not ‘his’ fight — if it came to his door. But it sounded as though this was not only a distant struggle in the literal, physical sense at this point, but one very distanced from anything he considered part of his life at all.

He couldn’t help but feel a pang of dissatisfaction, though, with the manner in which their leaders were handling this. Surely anyone who knew anything of the relations between the races would understand the Yaeli had already taken a leap of faith to come here at all, and the alkidike had been tossed on their shores like toxic waste no one else had been willing to deal with. Now they had the gall to call them cowards because they did not wish to fight for those who had murdered their children?

It was uncomfortable, to say the least.

Tytus - 5

Tytus nodded, "It would be too much to ask for them to simply fade away on their own, right?" He tried to joke though his expression twisted into something sour since it was obvious that things would not be so easy, "Honestly if anyone has the hatred of the other tribes then surely it's the bugs." He whispered quietly, "Even I'm finding it hard to imagine fighting for them." But necessity could drive a man to do the unthinkable - that much he had learned for himself.

"True that. We shall see in due time."

Valek - 5

The boy skirted around groups of men who shifted before him. At first he had thought to reach out to the other girls, but he settled for simply staying in place as he kept an eye on his father who was standing nearby. As long as he could see his father standing tall in the crowd then he felt safe. Surely to try and investigate a bit more wouldn't hurt, right?

Biting his bottom lip thoughtfully Valek nodded his head to himself before scurrying forward.

“I think we’ve had enough arguing over this.” Besian grunted as he strode past Antiope and the others who had been silently listening to the debate of the crowd, “Everyone!” The Oban’s voice rang throughout the air full of authority, something that made the roaring conversations drastically drop to the faintest of whispers, “I know that many of you have difficulty with the idea of working with the Alkidikes but remember! Not all of the sisters are these ‘demons’ that you speak of. Those that are our neighbors, those Sisters are those that fought against their own family to help defend these lands against the Extremists. They fought for us in Sauti and many even fought before that when another country was intent upon domination!”

Here he grew quiet and it was Naria who aided him, “It’s true!” She called out as she reached a hand up to pat Besian’s back, admittedly her fingers barely grazed his shoulder as she stood on tiptoe but still she should no sign of struggle as she addressed the crowd, “Once we would have gagged at the idea of helping Oba but look now! Are we not great allies? Can’t we do the same for the Alkidike who have fought for us before? Do we really have to condemn the majority for a select few?”

“But say they wish to help those select few as well? What do we do then?” A Shifter spoke up from the front of the crowd, “While it’s nice to say forgive and forget it’s really not that possible! They’re probably willing to stab us all in the back! And I know firsthand from living next to them that they were terrors! I’m sure these Yaeli know that as well!”

“Necessity brings people together.” Replied Antiope for Naria, “As Naria stated both Matori and Oba are now great allies and while I do not dare put that much faith in the extremists we at least know what they are capable of. These Dretch, however, are dangerous and could wipe out us all. If we let the fear of a few ruin our alliances now then surely we will fail.”

“It would be nice to see one of those stuck up bugs lose that grin when we save them.” Snorted someone in the crowds, gaining a few more snickers before someone else spoke up.

“Wh-what of those devil spawn?” A Yaeli woman spoke up nervously, “I doubt you have witnessed them! They are dangerous, if not like the great evil that has cursed our lands! Maybe their birth has summoned them!” Whispers of agreement came through the crowds, “Perhaps the gods are trying to wipe the world clean of them so that we may live in peace again!”

“Peace to you all.” Elio’s quiet voice took all by surprise as he raised a hand, “While I do not dare doubt the plans of the gods I do not believe that our world could truly be free of darkness. For what is light without a shadow behind it?” His mouth curved upwards into a warm smile, “What I do believe is that perchance this is a time for us to bond with these new countries. We have been hidden for so long but now it seems that the gods are pulling us all together for a purpose. Perhaps it is because they will need our assistance in this upcoming war. If the Yaeli assist those that have plagued our lands then they may be inclined to rethink their violence against our people.” He shook his head, “We can only hope for the best, can we not?”

“And we will be here for Yael in the future.” Replied Antiope quietly, “But first we must fight against our biggest threat and can learn more about these Elarian along the way. If fate will have it then it is possible that this is a way to reunite these lands by teaching us more about each other as we prepare for the battle ahead.”
