August 2017 Math Prompt "GEMDAS is a mnemonic used to remembered the order of operations in math problems; Grouping (such as parentheses), Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction. Today we're going to play a little game to see how much you have learned." Rules: Roll 5 d20s. Treat the numbers as if they are in this pattern: N1 - (N2 + N3) + N4 x N5 = Sum. (Example if I roll 5 d20s and get a 5, 18, 9, 20 and 4 it'd look like this 5 - (18 + 9) + 20 x 4 = 58 ). Post the sum with your result. Post a small RP response in the thread with how your student felt about the assignment. 13 - (12 + 11) + 8 x 11 = 78 Nyrili was better at math than she was at science but that didn't mean she liked it very much. It just meant that math class wasn't a class she had to worry too much about. While she checked and double checked her work, Nyrili idly doodled in the margins of her paper. When she realized she was doodling hearts with certain initials in them, she blushed furiously and erased her doodles. Just before class was over, she made sure her paper was free of doodles before handing it in. Unlike most things, Nyrili was fairly confident she'd gotten it right.

She hated this subject, but at least it wasn't that hard. Though this GEMDAS stuff was confusing to her. She took her time, took the problem step by step and got...what had to be the wrong answer. So she did it over again. She tried to remember what the teacher had said about this crap and once more took her time and took it step by step. Once she was fairly certain she had the right answer, she stood up and went to hand in her work. Hopefully she hadn't done it wrong. Hopefully.

It was so confusing sometimes that it gave her migraines! Today was no different with this lovely little 'game' as the teacher put it. The hallowed fallen was probably the last person to turn in the assignment because she had to sit there and think about it....very carefully. She messed up twice before she finally got it according to the formula. Ugh...why did numbers have to be so hard for her?

August 2017 Math Prompt "Today, we're going to count as high as you can!" Rules: Rolled a 22 Jamie was nervous, nibbling on a claw tip as his eyes skittered over the class and the students and blinked up at the teacher. “Um…1,2” he started, curling a finger for each digit as he counted. He stumbled uneasy, tail twitching slightly and curls his tail around his feet. He nibbled on a nail thoughtful. “Twenty.. um, twenty one, twenty two….”
He stopped, blinking rapidly before scooching back into his seat. He pulled his legs up, tail wrapping around them. “Um… done.” He muttered, picking at the threads of his sweater. He fidgeted, uneasy with the attention and gave a little noise of relief as the next student was called.

Ahh, maths. Was it really important for fashion? Aside from measurements, of course. Zerani asked herself this almost every class. Honestly, what was the use of prime numbers when it came to sketching a dress or kicking some kid's a** in video games? With a sigh she began to mumble to herself. "1... That's prime, right? I don't think 2 counts... 3, 5, 7, 11, 13.. 17... 19? 23..." She let out a yawn and kept on scribbling out numbers. She probably missed one or two, and she couldn't help but give up around 57. There were simply too many of them to bother!

Mathematics was one of Sabera's favourite subjects. It was all straight-forward and abides by clear rules. Not only that, but you could see it everywhere, especially in nature. Prime numbers he found especially fascinating and incredibly fun to spot around the place. Sabera spent the entire class writing down every prime number he could; in numerical order, of course. The freshling hardly skipped a beat, occasionally mumbling the numbers to himself. He was deep into the triple digits before the class was finished. It was unclear how far he could have gone, but he hadn't showed any signs of slowing. What a delightful lesson!

Post a small RP response in thread with how your student felt about the assignment. Junior Oran wasn't sure how she felt about the assignment, it was more of a freshling assignment if anything. After all hopefully by the time they where Oran's age it was just a matter of working things out by an equation. Still it was better than tests or other hard problems and with enough classes it was nice to have a simple day once in a while. "Alright well an assignment is an assignment. 1, 3, 5, ....109, 113, 127. I can go a bit longer but i dont want to spend the whole class. This should be good right. " Oran replied.

Post a small RP response in thread with how your student felt about the assignment. Miera tilted her head and looked at the teacher for a moment. Were they serious? As the teacher continued Miera decided they apparently were quite serious. While Math wasn’t her best subject she thought the assignment to be a bit, well, silly. But she needed to pass to graduate so with a shrug she put pen to paper and began to count. 1,2,3,5,7,11,13,17,19,23,29,31,37, Miera paused thinking- was 41 Prime? Couldn’t be divided by 3,nor 7, neither 9, or 11 so yes it was prime- so 41,43,47- Again she stopped 51 wasn’t prime, but hurms, this was harder than she’d thought. 53,57- wait, She did some quick calculations on the side and erased 57,- 53, 59, 61,- again she did more calculations- 67, 71, 73,79… Before she’d gotten much higher the teacher was announcing the end of class, and Miera had changed her mind about prime numbers and the given assignment, they were tricksy!

Aiday sat down to do the assignment she started to count in prime numbers it was pretty easy though she started to get tired of doing it after a while and figured she had gone high enough. With fall coming Aiday was getting a bit sleepy as the days grew colder. 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29, 31, 37, 41, 43, 47, 53, 59, 61, 67, 71, 73, 79, 83, 89, 97, 101 she counted out doing her work on her paper to make she they were each prime numbers. She wasn't too worried since Aiday was pretty good at math and science.

Obviously everyone could get to 23 no problem but going past that made you think. Then again class was supposed to be thinking after all. Still sitting here pondering thing was not the assignment. He got up and started counting. “I, 3, 5, 7, 11” Rune started and continued onward until about 73. “73, 79, 83 and done”. Ugh his head hurt, that should be enough numbers right? Well it was all they were going to get. He supposed he could try to go higher but he was a freshling. Spouting off would just make him a know it all and then the annoying teasing would commence. Yeah avoiding the teasing.

Post a small RP response in thread with how your student felt about the assignment. Junior She had to admit that when she walked into the room today she didn’t think this was the assignment. Why counting? Was the question running through her mind. Should they as juniors be into more advance things? Then again prime numbers could trip you up and it could be the start to something different and more advanced Oiche supposed. Still the question was how far up did she want to go. She wasn’t too bad at math, after all math didn’t try to lie to you that often. “1, 3, 5” oiche started and continued on listing them off. When she thought she felt annoyance she started tapering off. “191, 193, 197” There that should be good enough and showed she knew the principle at least.

Post a small RP response in thread with how your student felt about the assignment. Freshling Selkie didn’t feel good. It was like there was a fog behind his head and his throat kind of hurt. Come to think of it, he was probably coming down with something. So of course in math it was a speaking day. Selkie knew all the standard prime numbers and most days he recalled most of the formula to figure out if something was prime but that wasn’t the assignment. The assignment was counting out loud. So he spaced out until his turn and stood up. “1,3,5,7,9,11” He started rounding off the different numbers. “ 61, 67, 71, 73, 79, 83, 89, and 97” There that was a good number to stop on. He needed a drink. The assignment was over. Now could he just pass out on his desk?

Post a small RP response in thread with how your student felt about the assignment. Senior: Liath's face paled. Primary numbers... his mind went blank. 'WHAT IS A PRIMARY NUMBER?!? Okay man, be cool just think. The teacher obviously taught us this right... RIGHT?' Then it came back to him... Numbers that can only be divided by one and it's self... okay. "2, 11, 13,19, 37,43,67" Those were all the ones he could think of and he was pretty sure he missed some in the middle he looked down at his paper panicked erased them and tried again. "2,5,7,11,13,17,19,23,29,31,37,41,43,47,53,59,61,67" He was pretty sure he got them this time... but that was all he knew.

"2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29, 31, 37, 41, 43, 47, 53, 59, 61, 67, 71, 73, 79, 83, 89, 97, 101, 103, 107, 109, 113, 127, 131, 137, 139, 149 ... " Why was math so hard? After 149, Maeva was quite stumped. Maeva glanced around the classroom trying to find her sister, eyes pleading for help. Maeva didn't want to look like she didn't know anything, but in truth, she felt pretty dumb. It gave her some confidence knowing that others students seemed to be struggling just like her ...
