Macaron jumped slightly as Smooth Swing spoke to him. He wasn't expecting much by the way of social interaction. Usually the wide eyes stare plastered on his face at all times kept phonies away. However, for Halloween, he was inadvertently always the perfect spooky prop.

He looked at Swing, and said "Thank you. I wish I had more to do with it than in reality. Truth of the matter is, my sisters made almost the entire thing." He eyed the other phony's costume for a bit, then finally asked.

"Who are you tonight?"

He ignored the comment about the banana for the moment. He was half hoping the child wouldn't recognize him and make his way over. Peanut was a decent kid, but the chef already didn't think that kids should be there.

"Oh, your sisters did? That's awfully nice of them," Swing remarked, thinking fondly of his own siblings. "I've got a couple myself. Are yours here tonight?"

At the question he was asked, he glanced down at his own costume automatically. "Me? Oh, I'm...Captain America," he confessed shyly, his pale face reddening as he blushed in embarrassment. "Like from the Avengers. Kinda silly, I know, but I always admired the guy."

Macaron shook his head. "No, I don't think they are coming tonight. One of them has kids to watch out for, and the other, well, I actually don't know why she's not going to be here now that I think of it."

He racked his brain, but drew a blank on who Captain America was. "Judging by the costume alone, Captain America is a superhero yeah?" That would make the Avengers a....group? Or maybe the movie series he was from?

He shrugged. "I'm not all that caught up on superheroes. I don't typically have a lot of free time because of my job.
PostPosted: Sun Oct 09, 2016 1:40 am

"Oh. I'm surprised she didn't think to bring them since there seem to be a lot of other foals around here for hers to play with," Swing remarked, glancing about. "And a shame they'd work so hard on your costume but not be here to show off their own. Glad to see a lot of other older phonies are getting into the spirit of the season, though."

He looked back at the mention of Captain America being a superhero and nodded sheepishly. "Y-yeah. I always thought superheroes were pretty cool, actually. But I know a lot of phonies think they're mostly just role models for foals to admire." Curious, he tilted his head. "Your job? What might that be, if you don't mind me asking?"

The pegasus paused, realizing he hadn't even gone about the business of introducing himself. "I'm sorry, that was rude of me! I'm Smooth Swing. Er, when I'm not being the Captain, of course," he added with a grin.

"I’m fine, lass." Jolly Roger sighed. "Right as rain. Hand it over now." If she was always cleaning up her mess at home, it hardly seemed right for her to be doing it here, especially when it wasn’t her mess to clean and this was a party. She should be playing with the other children, enjoying herself and leaving him to wallow in self-pity and confusion. Speaking off...

Jolly Roger shot a glance towards the group he’d just left, who seemed to have picked up some new arrivals; a fierce skeleton mare, the lovely Mer and two smaller bright-eyed lassies, one of which was wearing that terrifying horse head. The cowboy still towered over all of them and Jolly Roger scowled at him fiercely, as if to convey his still red-hot indignation of having liberties taken with his cheek.

But then his attention was stolen away from whatever they were all happily chatting about, as if having conversations was actually really easy to do and not something he’d never mastered, by a new arrival.

Jolly Roger turned his glower onto the masked stallion, though his words lacked any bite when he answered. "No bother." She’d actually been quite lovely but he wasn't going to say that out loud. The pirate-parrot sighed and looked away. He didn’t exactly want to be wearing the beak. It was uncomfortable. But he’d had it on for this long, the thought of taking it off was just as weird. "If ye want to."

Caramell laughed at Bubbles suggestion. "How did you know that's what I had thought of asking?" She had silently been thinking of asking him if he played the game in all honesty but then seeing how the situation just kept exploding, she decided better of it. "But I think its best to pass-----oh my good grief." she began then stopped, inwardly groaning.

"Eheeeee...." she brought her pawed hooves up and rubbed her face vigorously as if trying to wake herself from a dream at what her sister had said next. Seriously?! McFine?!?! "Paws I swear one day..." she leaned over and whispered into her sisters ear, elbowing the white mare, this time not as gently as before either. She gave her sister a look before turning back to the cowboy as he addressed her. Or rather, the growing group.

But he had called her adorable! Her features lit up again. She seriously doubted he knew who she came dressed as but she'd take adorable! "Thank you fine sir!" she smiled and listened as he explained where his cloak had been and glanced down at the little foal who seemed startled, to his..... date?? ... the parrot pirate. She bit back a laugh and waved at the pirate as he seemed to glance over yonder before being distracted himself. And then there was the really awesome looking dragon who didn't look quite so happy the sisters had come over either. Still, Caramell offered a smile and a wave. "You are really impressive, that is an amazing costume!" she chimed in with everyone else.

However, she turned her attention back towards the little ballerina and smiled, dropping herself to the floor, her big hood falling over her face. "I'm sorry if we startled you! Didn't mean it honest!" she proffered the apology, hoping the little filly would accept it. "You look super adorable! That's a very beautiful costume."

Cotton Moon was here!

Fashionably late as ever, as she had burnt her toast and forgot her math homework but that was besides the point.

Blinking, the earth filly glanced around for the nearest group of phonies to interact with and her eyes happened to land on one Mad Hatter, one Captain America and one adorable little banana! "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" she squealed at how adorable and tiny he was! He was perfectly huggable!

Rushing over, the excitable mare scooped up the little banana foal and squished him tight in a hug. "Oh you are the cutest thing ever ever!" she beamed, holding him up to peer at his adorable face before setting him down and fixing the banana hat she had ruffled. Sorry, sorry! Let me start over. Hi, I'm Cotton Fluff!" she beamed at him then turned towards the other two phonies standing there as well.

"Wowow you guys look AWESOME! Hi I'm Cotton!" she held out a hoof then wiggled it around and took some sort of bow, her puffy hair bouncing all over the place as she did so. "I haven't missed too much have I? Was running a bit late...." she beamed sheepishly, rubbing her front two hooves together.

"...Oh." The dark colt was honestly surprised that his peer wasn't angry at his insult regarding his costume. Even more shocking was the fact that the stranger actually seemed to be reacting with friendliness. Boss did his best to act like he wasn't delighted.

"Whatever. I don't, either," he answered in response to the orange foal's comment about not getting out much. "Usually I'm at home playing video games. I'm really boss at them, too," he bragged, grinning. "That's why my name's Boss Skill."

"Hook Slash? That's seriously your name?" he asked, shaking the other phony's hoof while eyeing his hook. "Dude, that's wicked! Whaddya do, do you play video games too?"

Hook Slash smiled. "Nice to meet you Boss! Yes Hook Slash is my name. I work in a restaurant.."
He look confused. "What are video games?"

The bird pirate looked back at them, and Bubble couldn't help it. She giggled as she was so prone to do at the whole thing. This was cute. Perhaps there was some secret pining going on here.
"Well cowboy, you best go fetch your partner or you'll end up a lone ranger. And lone rangers are prime targets for bandits and murderers you know. Out on the water we call them Pirates." Eyes twinkling she glanced back to the one dressed like a parrot.
"Or are you the one current after the land bound pirate?"

A wink and a small nudge she wanted to see what would unfold. Phony watching was a near sport when you spent most of your time in bodies of water.

The dragoness mare was given all grins as they discussed the finer points of their outfits. "Well, you must tell me how you got them to look to intimidating. I had to work at mine for ages, but, I also had to make sure it's water proof. No use making something that can't even come home with me you know."
She spoke to the group at large, doing a small twirl in the air.
"Ah, it's just so nice to see so many new things. I really ought to come up from the lake more often. You don't see parties and celebrations so extravagant down there... Though I think being underwater has a lot to do with that."

HECK ITS JUST THE BIG OL GROUP

"Film? Should I be askin' for yer autograph?" Rocky grinned at the dragoness, though her being quick to pick up on the 'date' comment actually gave him pause. "I dunno if he's th'jealous type, probably just as happy to be rid of me, y'know how they can be." He very nearly sounded sullen, though he added playfully, "An' if he leaves, I can think of worse things than bein' at yer mercy."

There he went again. From cheesy lines to confused flirting, he should have just dressed up like a donkey. It would have suited him better.

"Now now sugar, none of that 'sir' business, it's Rocky or Cowboy, as all y'all have taken a liking to." The draft chuckled and swayed, subtly bumping Caramell's shoulder.

And then the mer was teasing, and he couldn't help himself, offering a belly laugh at the taunting. This was his literal dream situation, and here he was, the Phony who had a response for every day of the week, speechless at all the attention and suggestion. "Alright, alright, you got me!" Grinning around the cigar again, he dipped his head politely to the ladies. "Mistress, I'd like a dance with you at some point," he raised his brows at Fantasia before gently bumping his shoulder against Caramell again, "and you, too. Rain check, ladies, good for this party or any time after. But, I better go throw m'date a life saver at this point. I'll be back." And with a wink and a lingering glance (really, all these ladies, what was he doing?!), he turned and trotted towards the parrot.

Picking up his discarded cloak, he squeezed it out a safe distance from the door and threw it back around himself, sauntering to Jolly Roger and unabashedly, unapologetically brushing up against his side. "Pardon, ladies 'n gents," he addressed the other Phonies before his grey eyes turned to the parrot, "'ey darlin', how's m'date doin'? You ready t'dance yet?" He raised his brows in a follow along gesture that probably just looked silly to anyone watching -- like he was trying to waggle and failing.

Paws was extremely excited... Up until the point the cowboy her sister was crushing on confessed he had a date. Her mood plummeted so fast it practically made the temperature drop in the air surrounding her petite form. This stallion had a date? And her sister liked him... But, he had a date. And she told him her sister wanted to dance with him... Her thoughts churned in slow motion as she tried to work out just what had happened and how she had undoubtedly made her sister very upset. POOR CARAMELL MUST BE CRUSHED BY THIS NEWS.

Turning teary eyed to her sister, she grabbed her by the hooves with a look of pity. "DON'T WORRY CARAMELL. YOU HAVE ME! I'LL DANCE WITH YOU. I WON'T LET YOU BE ALONE. I'M SURE YOU WON'T DIE A SPINSTER." She shrieked above the sound of the music.

Oh hey look, they were with other people besides just that cowboy. She totally forgot. Her attention rapidly turned to the bat winged mare who had mentioned that she brought one of her props from work.

"OHHHH. So you work with professional costumers? THAT'S SO COOL. I'M SO JEALOUS."

Being as oblivious as she was, she totally didn't notice that she may have scared some foals with her whacky antics. It was all in fun after all, right?

"Father!" Delicacy cried when she heard the sound of the masked stallion's voice. "W-well you told me I should go meet other phonies, didn't you...?" she asked, wanting to go nuzzle him but determined to finish cleaning up the spill first. She had almost gotten it all and it was her father who had taught her to take pride in a job well done.

"That I did," her father confirmed. "Good girl."

The filly nodded happily before looking back at Jolly and reddening a little. "But...I hope you'll forgive me for doubting you, sir, but you...still don't seem fine to me," she said in a meek voice, as if it took all her courage just to voice her opinion. "A-and, um...my father told me...that it's bad to tell lies because...even if you're trying to be nice, it can still be hurtful to yourself or others."

She glanced briefly toward the group she'd seen him sneak a peek at. From the direction of the punch trail, it seemed that had been the place he'd come from before she had encountered him. It was more than likely that someone or several someones there may have been the cause for his current state if it wasn't a health issue.

The masked unicorn watched in silence, considering the state of the other stallion and the words of his daughter. Now that she mentioned it, something did seem off about him. Of course, if this was the same unicorn Hard Truths had met in his youth, it made sense that the sea-faring phony would be having trouble being sociable if his attitude had remained the same, but Truths was all too familiar with being in that position.

He knew how it felt to be dishonest with oneself as well, trying to come off differently than one was feeling for pride or embarrassment or other reasons. Despite his name and purpose, Truths knew better than most that often times, telling the truth was far easier said than done.

As the parrot didn't seem all that keen on having his beak re-tied, Truths regarded him thoughtfully when he looked away. Now he thought he could see what his daughter meant. There was surely something going on that this phony didn't feel like acknowledging, let alone sharing, but who was he or his daughter to nosily meddle in others' business?

Normally he might have felt overwhelmed by the urge to set things right and force the truth out of others whether he was being nosy or not, but something about Jolly's sigh warned Truths that this was a situation better left alone by outsiders. He recognized that particular kind of sigh. Furthermore, he wasn't sure Delicacy needed to be enlightened as to its meaning just then; she was still too young in his opinion.

"All done!" the butterfly-masked filly proclaimed - right before backing into the large legs of the draft cowboy stallion who had come from the group the parrot had been watching. Squeaking in terror, she glanced up and managed to utter, "Sorry!" before scurrying for cover between her father's hooves.

When she peeked out at the cowboy, however, he seemed to be addressing the parrot phony and...asking him to dance? "Date?" she repeated, mostly to herself. Was that why the parrot phony had been so down? He missed his date? If that was the case, this would have been the perfect thing to cheer him up! Unconsciously, the little filly began to smile. It was like watching the happy ending to a fairy tale!

Hard Truths raised a hoof briefly in surprise when Delicacy dashed toward him in fright, allowing her to take refuge beneath him and his cape. He studied the situation and thought he might have gotten a good-enough idea of what had happened and what was going on now by the end of it. It was just a matter of how the parrot-costumed stallion would react.

Leaning over to supposedly re-tie his beak, Truths' hoof caught on the string, completely pulling it off Jolly's face. "Oops," he murmured in a low voice. "Clumsy me." He could only have imagined how annoying it would have been to talk with that beak over one's muzzle as it was awkward enough with his full-face mask. Not to mention if Jolly had been using it to hide any part of his expression, he was probably better off without it anyway. In Hard Truths' opinion, times like these were when non-verbal communication like facial expressions and body language were most important, so it wouldn't do to have those things hindered by a fake beak.

Glancing down at his sensitive little Delicacy, though, he frowned the slightest bit under his mask. So much for keeping her from being enlightened. There were some things it seemed like she was going to be exposed to whether he liked it or not, same as all his children. Oh well. At least she seemed to be enjoying herself.

"A restaurant?" Boss repeated, tilting his head. "How'ddya manage that? Is that hook real?" He was tempted to reach out and touch it but refrained. "What restaurant? Is the food good?" It was weird for him to hear of a foal working, though he thought he knew other foals who helped out their parents sometimes. Maybe this was one of those situations.

Most shocking of all, though, was what he heard come out of Hook's mouth next. His own jaw dropped. "You....you dunnp know what video games are?!" he exclaimed, gaping at the other colt with a mix of disbelief and horror. "Yer pullin' my leg, right?! You seriously dunno? Like...you've never played?!"

Confetti Daze had not gotten back to her about the snacks when suddenly a cuddly gray thing seemed to topple down to her level. Out of Orbit had no idea what it was supposed to be, but it was super cute!

Suddenly swept up with the adorable creature in front of her, the little filly came forward and simply attempted to hug the creature.

"I-it's okay!" she said before she started to piece together a sort of pattern arising that evening.

There was a good chance that this cute creature was also a Phony in costume.

Blushing immediately upon that realization, she added "...Th-thank you... I... I like your costume too! W-what are you dressed as?"

So the little lass thought she could call him on being a liar? It was quite sweet, in a way; she obviously cared enough about someone she’d just met and been taught a good lesson from her parents, even if right now he didn’t appreciate the attempt to pry into his feelings one bit. "Forgiven, lass, but not if you keep on asking. I’m fine, leave it at that." When she finished the cleaning and announced herself done, he sighed again. Nothing was going right tonight.

Nothing. At. All.

If his feathers had been real, JR would have puffed up like an angry chicken the moment the cowboy strolled up to his side. He stubbornly didn’t budge or move away, stood firm despite the weird tremor that went up his spine at the proximity of the larger stallion. Thankfully he’d come up on Jolly Roger’s good side (eyes, not personality).

Wait. Date? Dance? The words turned over in his mind, echoing through every corner as he scowled his very best scowl, completely derailed by the ridiculous brow waggling the other was doing as well as his question. What was this guy playing at? What was his game? Oh.

A thought had just clicked, an idea that made sense when the red fellow accidentally removed the beak. His face revealed, his blush all the more obvious, he snatched it back with a testy, "that’s mine! Mind yerself!" Stressed to the point of straight up walking out, he held back the urge and turned to stare down the cowboy at his side.

"Aye, I’m ready ta dance, bucko." He leaned in, blue eye fierce. "In private."

Without bothering to say goodbye to their other company, he marched away to a less populated area of the room, expecting to be followed.
