"No harm trying, right?" Jordan shrugged. "I go swimming anyway, myself. It's not too dangerous if you don't go out too far. You did ice fishing?" he asked with interest.
He reset another trap and extracted a small snail-shell from a second one, listening with a flat expression on his face as Suki explained to Rodney what she did with minipets. "Moths?" he asked as he returned to the group.

"I go diving for runics but I'd rather swim someplace where I can not be on guard all the time. The hunter pool is fine but there is just something about the ocean I prefer." He inspected another trap to find nothing.
"Yeah, my family would go out to the lake near my uncle's Pete's house and drive out to the ice. It was really fun if you can handle freezing your a** off. We used to fish all the time." He said, breathing out a small sigh as he thought about it. "They are probably out on the boat this time of year."
Suki'd comment had him on edge, not wanting Lawr Togo too far. Rodney seemed to know what was going on with Lawr's life but Jordan didn't and talking about moths made him worry. What was Lawr doing saying that here? This was a bit bad on his part.
"Silly pup is just playing, Rodney. These are for the labs." He said, moving over to pick up a stick and whistle.
"Suki, how about show Rodney a nice tree to bring Terry?" And away from talking about moths.

"Is that what you've been doing? J-just...v-v-vivisecting...how long has it been, it must have been hundreds....And you did it, just you..." Rodney was on the verge of a minor skeletal meltdown.

Suki seemed pretty eager to talk about things, even though the bristled fur stayed in place. "Yes!" she yipped at Jordan, wagging her tail. "I ate lots of little flappy moths because they made me prettier and younger. So pretty. Moths were lives." and she clipped her teeth as if to show how she'd snap up a moth if it was there with them right then.
She nodded though. "Play?!!" she said, distracted for the moment from what she had been saying about the moths and once again fixated on the stick. Her tail wagged furiously the entire time, however Rodney's stammering seemed to pull on some nerve of guilt and she hunched a little closer to the ground, concerned she'd done something wrong.
"But it's learning." she said placatingly. "It's ok. It's been forever. Throw the stick Master?" she said, trying to ignore the very upset skeleton.

Jordan took half a step back, his stomach chilling with some undefined unease. "Prettier and younger. Through Fear?" he asked. "I've never heard of anything like that."

"Lawr can explain it better than Suki." He waved the stick a bit more and threw it as hard as he could to give Suki's yapper a break before she put her paw in her mouth any more than she did.
"It's the practice of Fear extraction for hunter healing. I don't think his dog brain is helping his own explaination of his research," He turned to Jirdan who seemed on edge. "It's research he is doing in the labs. All cleared and approved."
He turned to Rodney. "I think even you can understand that at times even hunting benefits a species if there is overpopulation. What we are doing isn't driving anythin to extinction and they are being fully used. The Life department does understand the importance these creatures serve. We're not using them for dart practice."

"It's not okay. And...you're...lying," Rodney said to Melvin, surprised. "And you absolutely should not be..." he whispered, "discussing any of that. Sir."
Any of that not being moths, but hunter healing.
He took off his hat in frustration.
"Oh, it's my fault for bringing it up. I'm...maybe I should go..." He could walk elsewhere. And this was something that he really didn't want to participate in. He'd at least have less chance of damaging the mission, or the organization. He was the only trainee there, and it was his first time in golems, and maybe he hadn't understood the rules at all but as usual he certainly wasn't helping.

"For healing," Jordan repeated, frowning a little, once again up against the limits of his own knowledge about how these things really worked. He looked to Suki, who was Lawr, but apparently strangely limited within the golem persona. "Extraction from minipets? Hasn't that had mixed results?" Maybe he was thinking about the wrong thing. He remembered Julie's experimentation, but she'd been trying to replicate the effects of Joy, hadn't she?
He turned his head when Rodney spoke, his frown deepening. "Discussing any of what," he said, his eyes flicking between the other three.

Suki tore off after the stick with a gleeful bark which was absolutely earnest. Melvin was such a good person, such a good person. She did feel obligated to answer her mistress though and brought the stick back to Jordan eagerly.
"Here mistress." she said. "And it is possible I've seeen iiitt." she wiggled her fingers mystically. "So pretty. Gonna be pretty, everyone can be!"
She nodded eagerly at Melvin and repeated his comment. "Cleared and approved." She did look alarmed at Rodney wanting to leave, all those bones just walking off was not very ok with her. 'Stay though, stay Bonny, SIT."
Mistress got a head tilt for their question about things they shouldn't discuss, feeling somewhat head hurty as Melvin brought things into it which she couldn't and shouldn't possibly know yet did. . "...what?"
He was starting to cramp his immersion.

He looked at Rodney sharply, not at all finding him helpful in this situation and trying to just set things straight without just dumping everything Jordan didn't even need to know.
"Maybe we should drop it." He said, picking up the stick again. "Sounds like a good idea to me." He said with a flat tone, throwing the stick again and walking to check some traps.
"Are we going to check these traps or not."

"If I said what. then that would be discussing it," Rodney said in despair.
He did stay rooted, as requested.
He would be enjoying himself more, as far as a visit to a forest filled with magical creatures went, if he knew it wasn't for the sole purpose of destroying them.

Jordan closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose, irritated. It seemed that there was something going on that he wasn't supposed to know about, and he couldn't tell whether that was due to some sort of official clearance problem or whether it was these three specifically trying to keep him from finding something out. And wasn't that a paranoid-sounding idea, now that he thought about it? It was way less likely that they were trying to keep him, specifically, from hearing about something than that he just wouldn't be allowed to know, as frustrating as that was. And it wasn't as though he'd never dropped something for fear of hearing too much. He sighed. "All right," he growled, "I'll stop asking."
He would have liked to stalk off more dramatically to check the traps, but the golem body still insisted upon hopping, which didn't help his mood any. He took a swipe at an overhanging branch, and jumped when the tree made an eerie moaning sound in response. His trap contained a tiny brownish dragon, stunned enough that it barely twitched when he picked it up. Knowing that the little creature was probably going to a short life of experimentation soured his mood further. He checked, found that he was not within immediate sight range of the others, and quietly laid the minipet out of sight under the overhanging branches of a nearby bush.

Another three traps snapped loudly in different parts of the forest, right in a row.

She would have liked to have checked the traps, but for as long as Melvin was throwing the damn stick, she was going to throw it because it was the best thing ever. She kept chasing it even while the others went to check the traps out and while running past Rodney said. "No one would believe wild tales anyway. You should relax more."
She wondered why Jordan gave up though, she was almost as curious as everyone else to know what had been going on and she seemed only able to learn it by talking about it when asked. On a superficial level she was clueless.
When one of the traps snapped, she froze and dramatically pointed in their direction.
"MINIS." she barked. "MINIS MINIS."

Melvin looked up and followed to where Suki was pointing, patting her head as he walked by. "Good girl."
As he went over and reached in, he pulled out a small dragon by it's tail and looked it over before shoving it into the cage they kept. "Well that's one at least."
