Colin was raised in a relatively nuclear family, with a father, mother and older sister. The early years of his life would be considered 'average' in every sense of the world. His family wasn't particularly close, but there were no notable issues either. However, when Col was 12 years old, things suddenly and drastically changed; well, it appeared this way to him. The truth is that his mother was always flippant and materialistic, but as a child he never realised the impact this had on his family. When he was 12, his parents separated, his father finally sick of his wife's inconsideration towards her family. Unfortunately for Col, he was made to stay with his irresponsible mother rather than leave with his father.
Life wasn't terrible for Col, but it was clear that his mother didn't consider him or his sister a priority. This was particularly obvious when he realised his homosexuality at the age of 17. Feeling it was not possible to hide this from his mother, she greeted the news with awkwardness and distaste. Fortunately, his sister was entirely supportive and helped him through this important part of his life. However, his mother's increasingly selfish behaviour and lack of caring for her children caused Col to plead to his father to take him in. His father was more than happy to accept him into his household and finally he was able to live with family that cared for him and love him.
After having such a negative reaction from his mother, Col was hesitant to disclose his sexuality to his father. It wasn't until he was headed for college that hew revealed who he was; this was due to his participation in the college LGBT community that was nearly impossible to hide. To his relief, his father was accepting of him, although he is still slowly coming to terms with it more genuinely. As someone who's always been interested in technology and gaming, it seemed natural for Col to pursue technological engineering as a major in college and is currently trying to adjust to the very new and exciting university life.

lency was a gift to col from his dorm-mate, named after the god he so resembled. the fennekit is almost as chirpy as he is, and the two immediately became close. lency is a particularly tricky familiar, often stealing little things here and there, much to the dismay of everyone on campus. of course, col doesn't mind have random packets of chips appearing on his bed out of nowhere. col's friends are somewhat surprised by how much he pampers his familiar, often sitting lency on his lap and delicately brushing his well-maintained fur.

col was dared by one of his friends to adopt one of the new species, the bunyip. on one particularly heavy night of drinking, the demon agreed and went to find one. he ended up going with pepps, a perky young girl who had been turned out on the holiday season. without thinking too far ahead, he took her back to his dorm to introduce her to lency. the next day - after the hangover wore off - col realised the impact of his decision. the bumbling young bunyip was certainly a nice, loving companion but his dorm seemed a bit too small. unfortunately the decision was made, and eventually everyone grew accustomed to pepps - although col's roommate seems to be nearing breaking point.

Andrea, like many young demons raised in the capital city of Asphodel, was always encouraged to follow her dreams and achieve great things. Although this can cause some children to become stressed and self-critical, it resulted in almost the opposite for Andrea. She became certain that she could achieve anything she wanted which, while resulting in a certain level of self-denying as a defence mechanism, was mostly helpful during her upbringing and academic career.
Even as a freshling, Andy was interested in magic. She was somewhat distraught by the fact that demons had no inherent magical prowess but chose to overcome this and pursue the field regardless. One particular branch of magic always fascinated her; divination. She loved the idea of exploring the future and was especially drawn to tarot cards and tea leaves. By the time she was a junior, her room was covered in 'witchery' aesthetics; fairy lights, candles and all sorts of interpretation charts.
Unsurprisingly, Andy chose to go to Grendel to further her study of divination. Throughout her time in university she began to specialise in using divination for psychology purposes, helping clients through glimpses and possibilities in their future. Andy is certainly better at the divination aspect of this and has often been critiqued for not having proper psychologist training. Despite this, she loves being able to employ her passion as a full-time occupation and is still as obsessed with magic as she was as a child. Now that she's achieved her work goals, her ambitions are set on a new goal: finding a partner. It's already proving frustrating that sheer willpower and passion isn't enough to achieve this particular goal but that certainly won't stop her from trying.

lulu was an academy graduation present to andy from her parents. like many salamanders she was fairly aloof when first introduced to the demon, but andy was determined to form a friendship between them. during her time at grendel she seemed to have reached her goal (after many gifts and treats). lulu now loves spending time with her owner and is surprisingly active around strangers. there's always a box full of treats nearby to spoil the much loved familiar.

most people don't take their salamanders on walks, but andrea bought a specially designed bag to bring lulu with her to the park. on one of these outings, andrea was collecting stones and flowers to use in one of her rituals. as she reached for one particularly beautiful, purple flower, a jackalope leaped from a nearby bush and sat in front of her, twitching their nose. it was one of the rare breeds with wings, and andrea was shocked to see one so far from the mountains. hesitantly, she pat its head and rubbed its ears, admiring its little crown of flowers. after spending some time with it, she smiled and bid it a nice farewell, leaving to gather more ingredients. it took a while for her to realise the small familiar was silently following her, and did so all the way through the park. eventually andy got the message, delicately lifting the jackalope and carrying it home. they still haven't spent much time together, but andy has noticed flora takes a particular interest in her witchcraft. perhaps she'd found herself a spirit familiar?
willow the first stone andrea has awoken, willow is more precious to the demon than she could have imagined. andrea imbued on a whim, but now that she has a child to provide for she's thrown herself into motherhood. wanting to protect her hallowed child, willow is almost always at home with her, attending her psychic readings and occasionally her therapy sessions. subconsciously, andrea wants to shape willow into a master of divination, like herself. reluctantly, andrea is giving her child space and allowing her to attend the academy, but she'll be quick to pull her out if the smallest thing goes wrong.
yarrow the other stone imbued with kae, andrea doesn't see yarrow as much as she is being raised by her other mother. of course andrea still feels a maternal instinct towards her child, but it's clear that being raised separately has resulted in a weaker bond. however, willow loves seeing her sister and andrea still enjoys kae's company, so the four often meet and andrea uses the time to try to better know her other child. only time will tell if the two will grow close, as andrea wishes, or if they will only grow further apart.

kae a college friend who attended grendel with her, kae is one of the few graduates andrea bothered to maintain contact with. they occasionally talked on the phone, but only recently did the two start meeting up regularly. andrea remembered her as beautiful and easy to talk to, and that remains true to this day. the two decided to imbue on a whim, both wanting children and figured they may as well imbue together. fortunately this hasn't put a strain in their friendship, but andrea is still unsure if it will turn into something more serious.

The Sluagh and the Shades have troubled histories of being chased away and put down, and perhaps that's why Jayden's parents were drawn together. As the two races started to emerge from their isolation, one individual of each happened to find each other. Jayden's Shade mother was far more hesitant, scared that her family would judge her for socialising outside her own race or the Chomps, let alone imbue a stone. His Sluagh mother, however, was charming and adventurous and managed to sweep the small Shade off her feet. They fell madly in love, eventually resulting in Jayden.
Predictably, the family wasn't welcome with the Shades within the swamp, so Jayden was raised in the Sluagh community. He had a loving home in regards to his family, but he was often harassed and bullied for his hybrid appearance. As a defence mechanism, Jayden tried his best to become funny and charismatic, using his charms to smoothly slide out of most conflicts. As he grew older, he became far more accepted within the community, many people justifying his popularity as it 'just being the ears, after all'. Jayden didn't grow up bitter, but he expressed little interest in travelling to the community of Shades or learning about their history. He somewhat hides behind his charisma and light-heartedness, rarely exposing his true emotions to himself or others.
Jayden grew restless Above, wanting to explore the world just as his mothers had. His Sluagh mother was thrilled to let him go off on his own, but his Shade mother was far more hesitant and nervous for him. Eventually he won her over, and Jayden set off for the Academy. He began studying as a senior and so took longer to catch up on what he had missed and eventually graduate. He was, by all accounts, an incredibly average student. He barely passed his classes but managed to befriend most of his teachers and form a large network of friends and acquaintances. Fresh out of school, it wasn't hard for Jayden to use his contacts to work wherever he wished. After drifting from job to job for a few years, he eventually decided to do a bartending course. Currently Jayden works as a part-time bartender in three different bars, still uncertain what he wants to do with his life but simply enjoying the experiences as they come.

jayden picked up a job for hunter's jubilee, inventing a number of spring cocktails just for the occasion. during his time bartending, jayden noticed a few familiars around the place, seeing as it was an outside gig. one nezubat in particular seemed to be attracted to the drinks table, perhaps for all the sweet syrups. whenever he was bored or had no one to serve, jayden would make little one-liners at the creature. it seemed they developed some sort of a weird connection and once the night was over, the nezubat just followed him home. jayden playfully dubbed her 'sunny' and enjoys watching her flutter around the room. sunny is the opposite of trained and jayden just allows her to do whatever she pleases. sometimes she's gone for days at a time, but she always eventually comes home.

buddy the result of a long night of substance abuse, jayden surprised all his friends by deciding to raise buddy. as seen by the child's name, it isn't something he takes seriously, seeing his child more of a little pal to have around than an actual responsibility. jayden is blissfully unaware of how lucky he is that his son can practically raise himself, and enjoys having the freshling around to play games with. he vaguely tries to keep him away from his stashes, but the effort is minimal.
petri his other child that jayden has never met - he doesn't even know petri exists.

cherry jayden was fascinated with cherry the moment he stepped into the bar where the hybrid was working. while jayden tends to avoid shades and chomps due to his ostracising homeland, he quickly sought cherry out when he learnt he had also been shunned. the two of them have become lovers, but jayden wouldn't say it's anything more than that. he enjoys cherry's company and his flattering nature, but has no current interest to get into anything serious.

The story of Calliou has become increasingly familiar; the result of an individual who purchased a Doll and fell in love with them. Calliou's mother - a Sluagh - was hesitant of living in Below, and so was encouraged to buy a Doll for companionship. The Doll was grateful for being provided with a loving family and, for better or worse, this gratefulness caused him to accept the Sluagh's advances. Eventually - with the assistance of an outside battery - they were able to imbue Calliou at her mother's behest. Things were fine in the household for the first few years of Calliou's life, but over time her father became more independent and realised he'd been manipulated into the commitment. An obvious drift began to develop between her parents until, eventually, there was a larger falling out.
Unwanted by her father and blamed for the conflict by her mother, Calliou was mostly shunned and neglected. As her parents grew apart, her father became increasingly distant whereas her mother started to have loud, violent outbursts towards her. Eventually the emotional abuse caused the young hybrid to snap, running out the door with nothing more than the clothes on her back. Being a well-read child, she knew exactly where to run to and be accepted; the Asphodel Gardens Academy. Fortunately, her family had moved to Asphodel when her father was purchased, so it wasn't difficult for her to find the school and enrol. They accepted her happily, but she proved to be an isolated child. Her neglectful childhood had caused her to grow independent and distrustful of others, and her secluded nature wasn't helped by her inherited Doll's stunted emotions.
Currently, Calliou is doing well in classes but has no real direction. She holds no regrets of running away from her family, but this may change over time.
